Electric staff with ranged multi target stuns. Focuses removing stability and breakbar. Has traits like: When you remove stability, you remove 3 stacks, increase outgoing breakbar damage by 100%.
I think Multi-stun would be better as a utility skill than a Staff weapon skill.
Since the theme of the utility is to be like a Arcane/Glamour skills it would give player more choice of weapon option using this Elite Spec instead of majority going for Staff only because it is the only weapon that has Multi-stun ability.
Though the mutli-stun utility skill concept I have is to have it as also a type of stun break skill. For example…
Static Shock
Type: Utility
Description: Cause a small electric shock to the player to break out of a Stun and release a small AoE around the player that stuns nearby enemies for 2 seconds.
This would give players time to either escape any melee range enemies or use as a short opening to counter attack them for being too confident they can melee the Engineer.
They can also use it as a stun if they believe they do not need the stun-break or have a extra stunbreak at hand already.

The engineer do not wield magic, he wield science. This is a profession that find through science the ability to mimic other professions.
Scarlet Briar, while being an hated character, show some of the potential of the engineer with her advanced knowledge of mechanic life form, her ability to create holograms or even all the weapons she gave to her followers. It’s not impossible to imagine a mesmer like e-spec (already a “mage”) with hologram acting as illusions or an elementalist’s e-spec that focus more on sharing some weapon kits (conjure weapon).
It is part of the reason why I find a Elite Spec for Engineer that involves using Magic Technology interesting. GW2 has a strong theme as part of the game being the development of new technology to fight the Elder Dragons and other threat which often involve or discovering new type of technology that uses, you guessed it, Magical Energy.
This has become even more focus on as Taimi is now trying to create a technology to use two different Elder Dragon’s Magical Energy so it can cause those two Elder Dragons to fight against each other.
The priory has even dipped into technology that uses the Magical Energy of Zhaitan into a Special Gun and then shoots that Magical Energy back out to harm Zhaitan Minions back during the Priory side of Zhaitan Arc.
A lot of concept for Engineer gaining a Mage type/Magical Energy Technology theme Elite Specualization exist in the game already since GW2 release but has yet to be used to create a Magic Energy technology theme Elite Specualization.
This would also maybe introduce 1 new Kit for Engineer unique to this Magic Energy Elite Spec involving the use of a Kit Rifle Gun that changes the weapon’s function based on which Magic Energy the Engineer is using for his or her Weapon. Thus opening Enigneer to make a build around this new Magic Energy Rifle Kit, focus on the main weapons of choice, or stick with the core basics of mixing between main weapon and kits.
Though with this Elite Spec focus on being a DPS Condition Damage Elite Specualization it can opening up power builds such as using the condition that passively stack, condition based on which Magic Energy is being used, per hit to increase the main Damage from traits such as Modification Ammunition thus turning each condition stack into a increase damage stack if players wish to use this Elite Spec as a Power Build Elite Spec.
This Elite Spec would be good for either Sinister, Berserker, and any build set up that focus on DPS in either Direct and/or Condition damage.

I hope Kasmeer finally appears and we can buy her outfit.
That teaser how Kasmeer was originally going to be in Episode 4 but did not appear because “REASONS!” felt more like a stab than “we tried” notice.
no pls no.. you got 3 mage classes.. why should the engi be the next Staff wielding mage?
give the engi a meele one handed weapon, a powerbased or hybrid specialisation tree and some fun new skills with a nice theme. but nothing magic related.. the engi is no ele.
The point of a Technomancer Elite Spec is to be a Hybrid of Magic and Technology.
Thus the use and development of new skills based on Magic technology.
The Staff can be used as a Melee Weapon for Engineer’s Elite Spec having the skill’s effects based on which Magic Energy is infused into the weapon. It will not change the weapons skills but provided different effects for the weapon skills.
Think of it as a Melee Condition Damage Elite Spec creatured through advancement of infusing Magical Energy into Technology. Something that GW2 has been developing for a while in its storyline through different organizations and groups such as the Priory and Asura to fight and counter the Elder Dragon’s magic and influences along with other uses beyond fighting elder dragons.

So let discuss a possible future Elite Spec for Engineer if Anet ever consider this…
A Mage type Engineer Elite Spec, aka Technomancer/Magic Tech user.
What kind of things would you be interested in for a Mage type Elite Specualization.
For me it would be a interesting Elite Specialization for a Staff or Focus Elite Specialization.
Mechanic wise it could adjust Engineer’s F bar skills by changing it into a Magic Energy Charge skills with each F skill providing different Magical Charges for different effects on Weapons and Kit skills.
Utility skill theme for this Elite Spec I hope is introducing Arcane/Glamour type Utility skills called Magic Techs with a few of the skills focus on removing conditions. Introducing new condition remove skills would help Engineer beyond Alchemy Traits using potions to remove conditions.
Well as they say “When you’re at the bottom the only way is to go up.”
It may be the bottom of the barrel now but the good thing about Engineer is that it opens up for more unique and interesting Elite Specualization for the Profession.
Things such as a Mage Engineer Elite Spec, Cybernetic enhancements, new types of Magic technology type Elite Spec, and etc.
Mage Engineer is certainly a very interesting concept I am most interested in either as the Focus Elite Spec or Staff Elite Spec.
Because it is fun and I enjoy technology type classes in games.
Also the general design for Engineer allows it to have more possible creative Elite Specs for the future compared to the other Professions limited by their classic theme that have been established from generations of fantasy theme games.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
AFAIK when people talks about the “signet mechanic”, they aren’t talking about the lore justification of the skills, but about the way they work, gameplay wise. Thematically, it could be anything more fitting for engie, from “implants” to “force fields” or “bio-boosters” or whatever.
Yes. When I am talking about Signet Elite Spec I am talking about the mechanic of a Signet but given a Engineer twsit such as physical augmentation, cybernetic modification, , and etc.
A Signet Elite Spec for Engineer is possible as Engineer follow a technology theme Profession and augmentation to the physical body has been a technology form of “Signets”
One way of a Signet Elite Spec for Engineer is to introduce physical augmentation skills that function just like Signets such as Muscle Augment which boost Power passively but when used it has the Engineer create a AoE area for a short time that damage all enemies inside it by punching the ground and unleash electric energy from the Augment the Engineer has.
Another can be a Sight Augmentation that boost Crit chance passively and when used it serves as a Stun break skill that unleash a small electric shock AoE that cause minor damage to nearby enemies but also stuns nearby enemies for 1 or 2 seconds thus giving time for acting either to continue attacking or to escape .
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
So if Engineer get their own version of a Signet Elite spec how do you think it would function and what weapon may it have?
In my opinion I can think of it more melee based either Greatsword or Mace. Probably design the theme for a Signet Engineer Elite Spec as a type of cybernetic modification theme such a Sight Modification which increase Crit chance, Strength Modification for increase base damage/condition damage, and etc.
[…]
Axe would be a interesting Condition Melee Weapon for a Acid/Chemical theme Elite Spec but the Elite Spec itself may feel like it is just a upgraded version of the already existing Elixir trait tree we have instead of introducing something new.
[…]Druid is an upgraded version of Nature Magic.
Daredevil is an upgraded version of Acrobatics.
Berserker is an upgraded version of Strength.
Reaper is an upgraded version of Soul Reaping.
Though the question of what mechanic does remain. Each Elite Spec added or changed the original mechanic of the Profession such as Druid given a Celestial form and Berserker’s Rage bar now added a new Fire theme abilities.
I can only think that a Chemist Elite Spec for Engineer may change the F1, F2, F3, anf F4 into potion mixing skills with F5 being the button to use the Mix potion created by F1 to F4 skills.
I still favor Greatsword for a Melee Condition weapon since we not have a melee Physical range weapon being hammer but still lack a actual Melee Condition Weapon. Maybe have the lore of the Elite Spec made by a Canthan Engineer from Divinty’s Reach basing the theme around Canthan Dragons thus the Heat Mod theme mechanic and fire theme Weapon and Utility skills using a Wrist launcher for Utility skills such as a wide cone AoE fire condition attack with each hit stacking a Burn damage and even launch a range Incendinary grenade to create a AoE Burn area for a short time that cause damage a burn condition every 1 second a person remains in that AoE zone.
It can even have a special trait that changes Burn condition into a new type of Burn condition, let just call it Dragon Fire, which allows Burn to damage enemies that would normally be immune to Burn conditions.
Pistol is nice but it is still a Mid-Range weapon which means the bullets can be reflected back at the player.
Sword and Dagger feel more as a physical weapon like Hammer if they were a Elite Spec.
Axe would be a interesting Condition Melee Weapon for a Acid/Chemical theme Elite Spec but the Elite Spec itself may feel like it is just a upgraded version of the already existing Elixir trait tree we have instead of introducing something new.
If there is one thing I look at beyond just the weapon is how does the Elite Spec fit for using that weapon.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
I feel the same way and I hope engis get buffed into the meta again, both in PvE and PvP. We have been neglected for so long!
Sadly I feel the only thing that will bring Engi into the thing called “Meta” again is a future Elite spec.
cough please be Main hand Sword, main-hand Dagger, or Greatsword elite spec for 2nd expansion for Engineer. Don’t care if it is range nor melee Sword, Dagger, or greatsword.cough
Naked Faren yet again. This is what…the 4th time?
- Beach speedo
- Scarlet trying to cook him
- Jungle escapades
- And now this?
Did I miss any?
cringe
To be fair, the more disturbing part is that version of Faren is an illusory plaything for the summoning mesmer.
I was avoiding that particular thought line, but yes, that is disturbing too.
Well I always wondered if Mesmer actually use their illusion powers to please themselves and now we know.
why not first you can focus in the mechanic of the new class, rather than thinking in the new weapon.
Because the idea of the Scrapper fits with the hammer (or mace) as a new weapon, i cant imagine a Scrapper per example, using daggers or scepters.
I think tht first we should imagine what flavor of spec will have the engineer in the future, then when the idea is defined, such thing as deciding what weapon will fit that spec will be simple
I had some ideals for thing such as Sword and Dagger on the Elite Spec function but felt they would be a bit too difficult to function in GW2.
For Daggers or sword if they follow a Energy theme for the weapon then it would go for a type of Energy based Elite Spec.
It can have Utility skills that focus on mid to close range attacks using a special Wrist Launcher with the Elite spec Special Armor piece being a Glove designed to show the Wrist launcher.
They can even add a new stun break utlity skill that release energy around the player when the skill is used that have a 1 second stun but short range AoE so if the player need to break from a stun they can stun enemies that are close to them giving them time to counter or escape.
Sword and Dagger weapon would make for a good Vibration Weapon which is a weapon that use high frequency vibrations to allow the blade to cut through objects more easily or for a energy type weapon using energy to allow the sword or dagger to cut through objects.
Both are possible with Engineer and fits their theme of being tech based weapons due to the sword and dagger’s modification with a Vibration mod or energy mod.
It would also fit for a direct damage main/off-hand weapon to allow the elite spec to provide both main and off-hand use for a Dagger elite spec or a Sword elite spec.
I blame too many bandits as antagonists for Human Personal story and that they are just not dusting off the Human Personal Story so they can finally bring it to a conclusion now.
Though hopefully they don’t make this small mistake once they decided to finally conclude the Charr, Asura, Norn, and Sylvari Personal story in future Season episode and expansions.
I think this episode had many moments of great dialogue and at least one hysterical moment when we saw Lord Faren. That one nearly got us killed as we were laughing so hard.
Ya Anet didn’t shy away from facts such as Mesmers using their illusion powers to cough please themselves in private
I think Caudecus used mesmer abilities throughout the fight (his teleport special-skill-knockback skill for example).
Demmi had a rifle when we met her in the personal story. But here she (mostly? only? I only saw her with) a sword and pistol – much like Caudecus.
Probably dropped the Large rifle for Sword/Pistol due to her skills being more to being a Thief now. Demmi had no profession combat skills back in Zhaitan Arc and depended only on her little amount of rifle training she got. Though the Sniper theme been a Order of Whisper thing for sometime due to Riel Darkwater.
One of E’s letters is meant for Kasmeer, though it’s unknown if she got it. If she did, she’d likely be among nobility trying to weed out the White Mantle insurgents there.
Ya Kasmeer never got that letter as it was more of a reason Anet put into this episode to explain why Kasmeer is not in Head of the Snake when last we learned she was in Kryta.
Guess we may see Kasmeer next episode as part of meeting her and getting a explaination why we did not run into her despite being in kryta anyways.
Greatsword with Heat Modification!
A Elite Spec that focus on melee Condition Damage Combat.
It uses a Heat meter that builds up per attack with the higher the heat meter the more bonus damage Engineer has. However, it is a double edge sword mechanic as if the heat meter overheats then it may cause the Greatsword to become too hot and Overheat thus damaging the Engineer per attack so managing the Heat Meter becomes important to prevent over heat by using skills that spends Heat for higher damage.
The main focus for this is Fire condition damage with some Elite Spec Traits boosting the damage of Burn damage/increase duration and even providing some condition immunity to condition damage. Along with a Perk that makes enemies immune to Burn Condition vulnerable to Burn condition. Its main focus is a Damage dealer Elite Spec.
and
Staff for that Technomancer Elite Spec that focus on using magic technology.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
I play a Condition P/P Engineer and I have to say this fight certainly favors the more Direct damage dealers rather than Condition damage dealers. His constant bombardment of attacks doesn’t give much time to build up CC damage compared to a Direct Damage character with straight up large damage.
Except for the ending I liked this episode a lot. A very beautiful new map, intersting story and some fun things to do. But the death of Demmi kind of ruined it for me.
I was realy excited that she showed up again and then we accompany her for one mission and she dies. Especially because it is another death in a totally stupid cutscene. If she would have died fighting, ok. But no. She has to die while we are letting Caudecus stand around talking. Why are we not right on his heels, so that he can either run away or die? Or did she have to die so that Valette could turn good again for Countess Anise to have another toy? Considering that the player is trying to form a new guild, Demmi would have been a great addition (even if she only would have worked as an informant with very few appearances).
Sadly I think it was to bring a little shakespeare plot into the ending being how we may have stopped the Evil beetlestone but his his good daughter dies with him in the end.
Still this Episode is very fun for Human/Order of Whisper characters because there are special dialogues in this Episode if your character is a Human and/or a member of the Order of Whispers.
Though as the story progress now I feel Anet is using Season 3 to remove Destiny Edge 2.0 characters from the “Commander” Group. The story now just points screams everyone in Destiny Edge 2.0 is going to die/go MIA/“reasons” they can’t join resulting in the Commander having to find new people to join Dragon’s Watch as part of the 2nd Expansion storyline.
However, it would be interesting if the 2nd expansion storyline is affected by which NPC we recuit into Dragon’s Watch similar to how we use to have 3 options to choose where our character’s story into Zhaitan Arc storyline goes but probably reduce between choose 2 characters per recuit.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
What if in a plot twist he reveals him self to be Saul D’Alessio and that the Mursaat been keeping him alive all these centuries, using that magical infused water in the raid area, in a eternal torment within that new Raid zone until he finally escaped from there and eventually took up Lazarus Identity so he can guide the White Mantle into being the forces of good he wanted them to be instead of a tool of death that the Mursaat turned them into after betraying and using him before GW1.
and if players reach the end of the new raid they get some “hints” that it is Saul D’Alessio as a special sneak peak into his identity just like the Wing 3 of the Raid involving Lazarus
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Warning this is a spoiler discussion!
On topic:
So what did you think about this epiosde?
I thought it was nice and a good yet bittersweet conclusion to the Human Personal Story and Order of Whisper Personal Story that was gathering dust since GW2 Zhaitan arc.
The Feel Train hit hard at the end especially when Demmi’s final moment is seeing Tybalt.
Though that means no matter what happened back in Zhaitan Arc the Order Mentors would have died no matter what most likely by the hands of the Orrian Scout.
I am curious how the new map will be.
We have a teaser of the town in the new map already.
The place reminds me of a old west town.
I personally find it unlikely he’s a avid magic user. I mean, sure he might be able to cast a spell or two like everyone else, but from what I’ve seen so far I feel like he’s a scrapper combat class, and a cowardly one at that. Something between a thief, ranger and warrior. Being able to fight in melee combat, but preferring to unleash his pistol from a distance.
Hit and Run style. But thats just my speculation
You know what would be interesting? If Caudecus may actually be a new Elite Specialization for a profession in the next expansion.
Anet pulled this back in Season 2 when they teased Reaper using Marjory
Well it wouldn’t be the first time a traditionally melee weapon was used as a ranged weapon. Mesmer Greatsword and Revenant Hammer both fit the profile. I would say axe too but there are actually more ranged versions of axe than melee.
Engineer opens up a bit more unique way to make melee base weapons into Range weapons.
Other Profession can easily BS it by saying they use Magic to make that weapon ranged but engineer needs to have a proper tech explaination why the melee weapon is range and how it functions.
With magic you don’t really both questioning how that magic works because that what Magic just is.
Ya daily is quite easy to finish quickly now. If you’re looking to find things to do in GW2 after the easy daily is finished then the best you can do is go around the maps farming things.
Worth it if you just want pure fun.
Not worth it if you care only about the Meta.
Engnieer is more for people are are just loyal to the gameplay experience over concepts of meta and being the very best of the game. They are the Jack of all trades but master of none type of profession thus there are very mixed feelings for this profession.
However, what it becomes in the future with more Elite Specs being introduced will certainly be in question.
So if a future elite spec use the Engineer’s technology skill to turn a Melee Weapon such as Sword, Dagger, Greatsword, mace, and axe into a Range weapon for a future Elite Spec how would you like to see it function?
For me…
Dagger weapon can act like tesla coils with the Elite Spec providing both main hand and off-hand daggers. The 3rd weapon skill slot changes based on what the off-handed weapon is.
from the looks of things this part of the story is happening in a new area around DR. I am guessing we are looking at the unexplored area on the left side of DR that is just north east of Queensdale
For current events…
Caudecus wins the War and takes the Krytan Throne with his first act being pulling the Human Race of Kryta out of the Elder Dragon War thus Fing up the chances of defeating the current two Elder Dragons that are awake.
Later in the story it ends Season 3 with the complete Destruction of Divinity’s Reach by the hands of both Primordus and Jormag finally acting to expand their territory into Kryta with primordus minions rising from the ground and Jormag appearing from the sky turning Divinity’s Reach into the first time two Elder Dragons would wage war against each other. We then Fight Caudecus one last time in the Throne room where he continue to be stubbern and power hungry thus blaming the Player’s Character for what happened instead of accepting it was his fault for ignoring the Elder Dragons. He would then die by the hands of a Elder Dragon minion in a cutscene for that sweet karma death.
Then the story enters into the next expansion storyline where we must now fight a war against 2 Elder Dragons with a greatly weakened alliance between races due to what happened in Season 3. Then a surprise twist of a 3rd Elder Dragon attacking as the true final boss of the Expansion storyline after the Jormag and Primordus are killed half way in the expansion’s storyline but now has the power of Jormag, Primordus, Zhaitan, and Mordremoth mix with its own thus starting the other half of expansion storyline about rebuilding the broken alliance between races so a truely unified Race Alliance can defeat this Elder Dragon or else the current GW2 Map zone will be doomed.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
That the Elder Dragons only exist in current GW2 Map area and the rest of the World of Tyria do not even know about what is happening in GW2 Map and that Elder Dragons exist due to all Elder Dragons being only located conveniently in the current GW2 Map.
Really the whole Elder Dragon plot is way too convenient as if the only races that actually fight the Elder Dragons are the races in the current GW2 Map and the rest of 90% of Tyria never gotten involved in Elder Dragons even in past Awakening Cycles. It is as if the Elder Dragons only wake up within the GW2 Map area each Cycle and then falls asleep again within the GW2 Map again at the end of the Cycle and thus never moving beyond GW2 Map each time thus no one would know Magic is being consumed by Elder Dragons in 90% of the World because no one ever seen them or gotten word the cause of Magic disappearing is because of Elder Dragons consuming the World’s Magic in one same Location per Cycle.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
I am hoping they actual do something new with daggers and have the Dagger Elite Spec cover both main-hand and off-hand daggers.
Main-hand or Off-hand only makes the Elite Spec feel a bit cut-short on what it can provided compare to a Elite Spec that has a two-handed weapon that can cover all 5 weapon slots unless the weapon was specifically designed only for Off-hand use like focus, shields, and warhorns.
I would say release 2 Elite Spec per Profession so each Profession can have 3 Elite Specs to choose from thus providing a actual choice to what players want to play as in the 2nd Expansion involving Elite Specs.
Also I hope Engineer get a Staff Elite Spec and it being a technomancer theme type Elite Spec. The game push a lot of advancements in Magic Technology as a means to fight the Elder Dragons and other type of threats during the major campaigns or events so it would be fitting that Engineer has a Elite Spec that specialize in using Magic Technology.
Back when GW2 was just a gleam in ANet’s eyes, they talked about player characters being able to choose between a companion or a buff to their character. Given the way the game turned out, it was apparently too much trouble to offer that choice. Even ranger, the character based on having a companion, has pets with mediocre to poor AI who had to be buffed with massive damage reduction vs. AoE in PvE.
I can understand the nostalgia for Heroes from GW as well as the antipathy, but this game would not do them very well, and the effort to make them fit in would doubtless detract from other things. At this stage in the game’s life, I believe that systems/mechanics development ought to be reserved to new weapons/specs for characters and balance changes rather than changing basic mechanics yet again.
I remember that back before GW2 was released. I think the Hall of Monuments was going to provide some stuff for the companion as well based on who was placed in the Hall of Monuments. Though sadly they never went through due to issues with design.
Going off topic for a moment:
Though I agree more resources should got to creating new Elite Specs and balances we already know Anet plans to release new Elite Spec per expansion, though a lot of players would prefer 2 new Elite Specs or more per expansion. As for balance well not many people are very fond of “balances” now consider how it is handled currently. These things are already set for the next expansion with New Maps and Storyline but the question about the expansion will certainly be what is the “real new Main thing” the expansion will introduce.
For HoT it was Mastery system that was meant to make exploration more “dynamic”. I am not saying they have to make the Comapanion system the next Expansion system. It is just the concept of what a Expansion provides that is “new” really is a shacky subject either for being too little content, too much content, too much change, or little to no change in the game, and etc.
HoT introduced new things but the change was too much and people felt it was too little as well due to how short the HoT storyline was until Season 3 was released.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Elite Specialization makes Ele strong if you know how to play tempest right.
There are more Elite Specs to be released as future updates in expansions so the current ones are just the first set.
Though watch your step in HoT maps as enemy mobs can be very brutal if you’re not careful.
It is fine to return to the game now but you certainly will have some work ahead to obtain the necessary Mastery for exploring HoT and Season 3 maps.
Well that is partly why I chosen the concept of only allowing 1 companion per character. GW1 grew to dependent on the Heroes because players could bring more than 1 Hero into content meant for group of players when the Heroes were mostly made for simple tasks such as map exploration and being Story mission involved characters (usually only allowed needing to bring 1 Hero into the Story mission that is require for story reasons).
If Anet kept their original design for Heroes being just better helpers for the simple task that don’t require players then it would have been fine but at some point they thought it was a good idea to allow players more than Heroes in their group over just allowing only a limited amount for group content.
Restriction wise I can see Anet putting up limits on Group content with Hero Companion in GW2 even if they choose to limit players to only allowing 1 Companion per character such as No Companions for Dungeons, Raids, and Fractals while only allowing use of the Companion for the World Map for exploration or Story instances since the Companion is a Story involved character and for getting players farther into their Main Storyline when old maps become lower in population over time since the map lost people for being too old.
If players were restricted to only 1 Hero Companion back in GW1 most players would have probably just shrug them off as only neccesary for personal task that don’t require much effort to complete such as reaching a outpost or just killing a few trash mobs in the map for quests. I shrugged off my Heroes back in GW1 for only personal small task such as reaching locations and completing normal side-quests most people just completed themselves without any player helps and left the hard stuff such as story mission to playing with players back when they limited Heroes to only 3 per group.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Ya the Companion is more for helping through older content that become low in population due to newer contents. We see this issue now with HoT Maps as certain aspects of HoT maps, well majority of it, requires players to work with other players to complete but there is just not enough players helping unless they wait for a long time for a response from someone either the map, finder, or guild.
Not to mention Season 3 Maps has been suffering from this issue. While each map provide some cosmetic rewards and Endgame level easy obtained accessories future maps will provide the same leaving the map less populated since there is not much keeping older players who have obtained everything they wanted from there already.
Contents like Raids most likely will not be allowed to use Companions since it is designed to work with players more than the other content is.
As for making this Companion story important it would be a nice addition to explain why the Companion is with our character. With the Companion being a Member of Dragon’s Watch he or she will have a actual story significants. It also provides players a actual choice to influence Dragon’s Watch as a leader, even if it is just recruiting one member, since so far members of Dragon’s Watch are not actual chosen by the player but are just being predetermined due to knowing these characters for a while.
As for the usualy post of people saying No because they can only think about only the worse case senario of implamenting this system, I have to agree some people do tend to over exaggerate things instead at looking at long term benefits as the game gets older and/or what limits a system like this may have to prevent those worse case sencario from happening.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
So if Anet return Hero companion into GW2 how would you like them to be introduced and what customization limit would you like to see?
For me I say have the Hero/Heroine/Heroes companion introduced as part of a Expansion Storyline.
Introduction to the Hero/Heroine as a Main Story mission where the Commander is looking for 1 new member to join Dragon’s Watch.
During the Dialogue option, after some dialogue about needing one more member for Dragon’s Watch, in a Mission the Player is given choices of the Race and gender they’re looking for which determine the Companion’s Race and gender, which each race and gender has their voice actors similar to the player character, and after that they are asked what Profession they wish to “find”. After that the mission ends and you’re sent on a story mission which is based on what Race you’re looking for to join Dragon’s Watch.
The next mission is when the Commander saves some NPCs from trouble and a NPC ask “what does this person look like” which a appearance customization screen then pops up for you to customize the Companion’s appearance. Following that the next mission is when you finally meet this new Member of Dragon’s Watch.
After he or she joins the player can then choose their Specialization either normal or a Elite at anytime through the player’s Hero menu with a new section added covering the Companion along with their armor appearance either through normal peices of armor or using a Outfit you already unlocked and their choice of weapon and utility skills. Gear stats wise they self level themselves so no worries about having to get another set of gears for a companion.
Limit only 1 companion per character but it should not matter much since plenty of people play mutliple characters anyways.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
She doesn’t really even have a core class (at least not one related to any of the core classes player characters have) considering she only fights in her golem. So I don’t really expect her to get an elite spec at all, or again at least not one that players can share.
Well Taimi is a Engineer class of the group which use modified weapons to fight enemies. For Taimi she uses her specially modified Golem to fight to compensate for her crippled leg.
..Isn’t there a berserker already?
Just what is Taimi Class anyways.. But I like the technomancer, sounds good like a combo of scapper and a spell class.
I still have this strange feel if Taimi becomes a Technomancer she may say a “Unlimited Power!” reference as one of her jokes for the Technomancer’s electric ability nature.
So if Taimi ever obtains a Elite Specialization what do you think it may be?
I personal think it would be something like Technomancer. Taimi has been covering a lot of Magic research so it would fit how she develops technology that incorporates Magical Energy to fight.
Staff as the Elite Spec weapon of course.
I remember a time when I ran into a random NPC dialogue saying they just recently discovered a Scoll containing recorded History of a Person who completed the Flame Seeker Prophecy, Stopped Shiro, and Prevented Nightfall which refers to the GW1 Hero. Judging by how this discover is considered recent and ground breaking it also implies the GW1 Hero was forgotten by history and only Devona and her companions (who where all henchmen) took the GW1 players place in these events of recorded history due to Historians only recording them and being unable to know about the existance of GW1 Hero.
If you know the myth of Norns, you should know, that they really believe in this. I think, that the situation from the last cutscene will cause, that Norns will follow Braham.
Every race have another point now:
Asura- Primordus
Sylvari and the Commander will work together, because Caithe and the Commander have good realationship now.
Charr- they are just staying in Black Citadel and they do nothing.
Human- they have to deal with bandits and Caudecus.
Norn- they go through to the mouth of Jormag. We wont kill dragons, if we wont be united. We are in dead end…
I think that is part of the problem with the current storyline now. Way too many issues left unfinished yet the story keeps brushing them off to just focus on killing a Elder Dragon.
At this point I feel the Elder Dragon Saga needs to end soon so we can finally have a new focus. The only reason lore wise we have not expanded into places outside of current Tyria Maps we have now such as Cantha and Elona is because the Elder Dragons are serving as the Plot Wall to keep the player in the current Maps. Once the Elder Dragons are dead then there is no longer any reason holding back the Player from entering Cantha or Elona or any other continents. Heck what we have now is still only 10% of the entire world of Tyria and 90% of Tyria has yet to be explored.
Yet the concept of Dragon’s Watch is not to be a military group but a team of unique individuals using their different talents to defeat the Elder Dragons.
Destiny Edge, for example, didn’t function much as a military team but more of a trust relationship they had with each other. They all trusted each other to get things done and they achieve their goals without depending only on one person to achieve everything for them. However, they fell apart because they lost trust with each other and their own actions. Eir was trusted to have a solid strategy but when she made the choice to use a strategy knowing one key ally was not there to make it work happened Zojja lost trust in her. When Logan left to save the Queen instead of staying he lost the trust to depend on him from Rytlock. Caithe lost faith in herself and no longer trusted herself.
Dragon’s Watch is not going to be something made up of people who simply act like a military consist of Yes people saying “Yes sir” and “I will do whatever you say sir” but more of a group of different people with different motives but the same goal trusting each other’s actions and so far that trust they have is not set yet.
Rox is only joining us now because she trust the commander’s methods to handle things when it comes to Elder Dragons.
Putting things in a Destiny Edge term, the Commander is basically the Eir of Dragon’s Watch now. They’re not going to be so trusting of the Commander if he or she only put his or her own needs above everyone else and only his or her own actions are the right ones.

I picked Engineer becuase I was always a Tech, gun, and sword player person. My main was originally a Guardian but I changed to Engineer due to finding Guardian not being my type of character. Eventually I grew to love the Engineer’s play style and do hope one day Engineer get a Elite Spec that use Sword or Greatsword which most likely may be modified with mayble electric, energy, or heat mod for that Engineer modification weapon theme.
I do not have good expectations about this “fire and ice” thing, it seems to me:
1. A means of shortening the game, maybe even sign of closure, “we must kill 2 dragons soon to go faster.”
2. A means to make final fight against dragons cheaper. “It will not take a great battle because they are already injured after fighting against each other.”
3. A much weaker expansion than HoT.My expectations will be wrong in the future if:
1. Facing 2 dragons mean double content in relation to HoT.
2. If develop into a plot more attractive and larger than HoT.
3. A really great expansion.
4. 2 large final battles, more epic and more interesting than the two dragons we faced before (Mordy and Zaithan).
I personally see it as a means to finally push beyond having the Elder Dragons as the main antagonist and the main World threat.
Back in GW1 each story/expansion had a different focus on their story despite having some small link but they never felt too dragged on for too long.
GW2 story involving the Elder Dragons felt it was dragging on too long now and felt like the Elder Dragons were just waiting in one spot for the Commander to rally a force to kill them one at a time or just being lazy and expect their minions to do all the work for them only to die one at a time because they didn’t want to do things themselves.
I personally say it may be time to move beyond this Elder Dragon Saga and move into a new one as the only thing keeping the Commander and his allies in the current lands of Tyria and not expanding beyond into Cantha, Elona, or other lands is because all the Elder Dragons are all located in one location of the World being the Map we have now.
The world of Tyria is a much larger place and 90% of the world has yet to be explored but for some reason all Elder Dragons are located and awakened in one convenient spot to keep the story in this one Map we have until they are all dead.

So a lot of talk about Braham bad behavior and Majory’s bad behavior as well but there is also issues with the Commander’s personality that sticks out as well and it opens up opportunity for maybe a future Season 3 episode if Anet already consider it.
First let me ask this?
Would you like to have 1 episode of Season 3 that has the Commander to revist their Origin to see the long term outcome of their actions after they left to the Join a Order and also use tha revisiting to learn why Dragon’s Watch isn’t having a good start?
I certainly would because it would be a good character development epiosde for the Commander and to finally see the long term effects of our choices from our Origin Personal Stories.
The reason for saying this is because I notice the Commander is have a bad personality of expecting people to bend over and accept his proposal or demands. It feels like the Commander has forgotten that this little group “Dragon’s Watch” is formed from different people with different reasons and the only thing that kept them together was having the same goals.
Kasmeer only stayed in the group because Majory is the only thing she has left as she has already lost everything.
Braham only stayed because he felt that he had to do what he must to protect his home despite his lack of experience.
Rox only stayed to keep Braham safe.
Taimi is only here becuase she wants to make a finding so valuable she will go down in Asura History and maybe take over the world.
Marjory stayed only because she wanted to avenge her sister’s death.
Now the Group is falling apart due to…
Majory now see a possible way to bring her sister back but she felt the Commander got in her way of obtaining that means.
Braham is now upset that the one thing he ever wanted was to have Eir to be a actual mother to him was taken away. Then the commander just appears and expect Braham to just join Dragon’s Watch without question while also saying basically Dragon’s Watch is also Destiny Edge but with a different name because Destiny Edge is basically dead. Ya Braham deserve a good smack to snap him out of it but the scene shows how the Commander is too use to people just saying “Yes” to him or her thus the Commander didn’t deal with the situation the right way.
The commander has spent his or her entire life throughout the storyline having people act without questioning his or her words. Now he or she must form a “Guild” that is basically “Destiny Edge” but with a different name while also expecting his or her “friends” to join without question. At this point it may be time for the Commander to go back and reflect, and character develop, on why he started to fight Elder Dragons and remember that despite having the same goals the reason for fighting are different.
