[SPOILER] Only sylvari can hear.... !!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

It is a bit quick to judge that the other races may not get their own exclusive events?

From the beta we are only given 1 HoT Story mission to demonstrate the HoT Storyline.

However, there is still more HoT storyline missions and a lot of NPC dialogue in Season 2 hints that there may be Humans, Charr, Asura, and Norn exclusive race events as well in HoT Storyline by showing their distrust allying them selves with the other races such as the Seraph NPCs in Silverwastes mentioning they have trust issues working with Charrs from the Legion and how Legion Charrs say they don’t like the idea of working with the Pact due to it being commanded by a “Sylvari”.

Heck we may even get exlcusive “Race” Missions in HoT story such as Human player must find the Seraph that crashed with the Pact fleet and a Charr player would get a different mission to find the Charr Legion members that was with the Pact Fleet with each leading to different part of the Map and different events.

Great decision, finally some more race diversity in a lore-friendly way.

Lore-friendly yes but how NPC react is the real kicker.

If you’re Sylvari expect them to treat your character like a African American in the Civil Rights era.

Along with other possible Human, Asura, Charr, and Norn exclusive race events having you trying to keep this broken alliance together of different races that already have little trust with each other as shown in Silverwaste banters.

There is also that certain NPCs will not trust you if you’re a Sylvari character to the point HoT Storyline can be a alternate story experience.

For example, in the Beta HoT Story mission the Charr and Norn will leave the Sylvari character because they do not agree with your choice to save “Sylvari Prisoners” due to being a Sylvari yourself. This reduce the amount of defense you have in this HoT story mission making it a bit harder. I’m guessing if you choose to “build turrets” path these two NPCs will stay if you’re a Sylvari character.

However, if you’re not a Sylvari character these two NPCs will stay and help defend regardless of your choice since they have a level of trust with a Player character who is not a Sylvari.

Your character’s Race appears to have some effect on HoT Storyline as well from what the beta demonstrated and we may see also Charr, Human, Norn, and Asura player exclusive events as well due to having NPCs from all Nations serving as “representatives” and “support” from those nations against the Elder Dragons which each nation has shown do not have full trust with the Pact and working with other races from the other nations as seen in Silverwaste NPC banters.

http://dulfy.net/2015/09/18/gw2-scapper-engineer-elite-specialization-livestream-notes/

it looks like it is base line and the trait gives you superspeed and a lighting field.

Ok it says on selfdestruct, maybe this doesnt count for death.

The problem with those is that these traits are made more to build on each other rather than function separately. Yes we got a lightning field from Thunderclap but the main use appears more towards having both Shocking Speed and Final Salvo together for the maximum effect.

Rapid Regeneration adds on to the Shocking Speed + Final Salvo combo by turning Super Speed into a Regeneration buff.

The concept of these destroy effects focus more on the Gyros use beyond simple traits and how each are made to function.

For example, when a Blast gyro is destroyed it doesn’t say the Gyro will perform its blast attack but only mention the blast attack happening if it activates on its own. What happens with the large amount of grenades it carries simply, assumed, disappears if the Gyro is destroyed.

The Medic gyro is a small robot ball of healing water that is squirting at the Scrapper once in a while. However, if destroyed it does not release the healing water stored up in its body but simply disappears.

Shredder Gyro goes around spinning saw blades around at a fast speed to create its whirl effect. Once destroyed it is assumed the Blades just disappears.

They already have on death effect but at the moment all the same AOE (240 Range) 1 Second daze.

So it must be easy for anet to add better effects

That AoE daze only works if player take the trait.

Without the trait Gyros are just little things to be killed and the Final Salvo is more for PvP rather than PvE.

I also think that it is a great idea.

IMO, something like this would be better than the actual Final Salvo, as it give each gyro a special effect.

But it should be only upon destruction (by a player or self destruct), I think.

Destroy effect only working on Enemy player kills or self destruct would make it too PvPish focused. One current issue with Gyros is the use in PvE so having the destroy effect work when natually destroyed in PvE would provide it PvE use.

Yes , and what I am saying is that the Scrapper gives us the ability to do things that we CANNOT do as opposed to a new way of doing something that we are already capable of.

Where you are essentially saying “I’d rather be an engineer and also beat on NPCs with a hammer, instead of throw grenades at them.” Might as well roll a Warrior or Guardian then.

Unless PVE changed, you are all just going to stand in a pile and just spam a rotation of buttons anyway not noticing the animations of the skills. If you want to solo, just equip berserker’s gear and do whatever, the game is not at all challenging solo.

Well we don’t know the full extent of Scrapper yet in PvE for HoT.

From beta we already see some of the mobs being very Anti-Zerker and a lot of players drop dead fast for not having proper amount of Toughness or Vitality in the HoT zones.

We already have people calling for Nerfs in HoT zones mobs because they’re being slaughtered for using Zerker Build or any type of pure DPS build that ignores Toughness and Vitality.

Just a thought that came to my mind while reading post. What if destroy effects were added to gyros. It would demotivate enemy players from wanting them destroyed and give players using them reasons for wanting them destroyed. The “~” means I’m uncertain what would be the base amount so I set it within a range amount.

For example….

Medic Gyro:
Personal Heal: 2,590
Gyro Heal: 820
Number of Targets: 5
Duration: 14s
Radius: 300
(New effect) If destroyed it release a 2,500 ~ 3000 heal within 300 Range to the Player and allies. Either destroyed by enemy player, timer runs out, or self-destruct.

Blast Gyro Tag
Detonation: 1,287
Targeting: 96
Knockback: 450
Radius: 240
Unblockable
Range: 1,500
(New Effect): If destroyed(either by enemy player, timer, or self-destruct) it does the blast anyways. Killing this drone at long range is idea due to melees will get hit by the blast gyro when it is destroyed in melee range. However, if range players don’t kill them fast enough before they get too close…..

Purge Gyro:
Conditions Removed: 2
Recharge Time: 3s
Duration: 15s
(New effect): If destroyed (either by enemy player, timer, or self-destruct) Purge Gyro release a Clense Field with Range of 300 to purge 5 conditions from player and allies.

Shredder Gyro
Damage: 32
Duration: 12s
Strike Interval: 1s
Combo Interval: ½s
Radius: 180
Combo Finisher: Whirl
Range: 600
(New effect): If Destroyed (either by enemy player, timer, or self-destruct) it leaves behind energized spinning saw blades in a small 240 radius that does 400 ~ 500 damage every 1/2 second to all enemy inside it for 5 seconds.

Bulwark Gyro
Damage Reduced: 50%
Watchful Eye (4s): Watchful Eye
Number of Targets: 5
Duration: 15s
Interval: 3s
Radius: 600
(New effect): When destroyed it gives the Scrapper 10 seconds of Protection, 10 seconds of retaliation, and 10 seconds of Aegis

Sneak Gyro

Stealth (4s): Grants stealth.
Duration: 30s
Interval: 3s
Radius: 300
(New effect): when destroyed it release its stealth field one last time providing Stealth for a extra 4 seconds.

I’ve been wondering after the last ebta if Anet would adjust the Gyros to have special effects if they are destroyed to give players a reason why they would want the gyros destroyed and enemies (NPC and players) not want to destroy those gyros.

Such as giving them special destroyed effects for when Gyros are destroyed by Enemy, Players, or self-destruct.

Facets of the Human Gods

From the Lore, the Human Gods are beings from the Mist but people only see them as Gods due to them uplifting Humans in the world and their incredible powers.

However, the Elder Dragon’s origins are unknown and mortal beings only consider them “Forces of Nature” due to how destructive and unstoppable they appear.

In the end their titles are just what “mortal” see these powerful beings so we can’t really be certain what the Human gods really are nor why they are powerful.

However, with the existance of the Mist guess any reason can go back to “They are what they are because of the Mist”

based on the stat screen = based on an assumption??

an opinion is when i say that because of the fact that hammer auto is weaker than grenade 1 it should be buffed to compensate for the extra risk that is being taken by being in melee.

The stat screen is based on what to expect in the game. However, the data on Hammer skill damage output is not tested in the game yet so it is just a assumption of what to expect and not what was actually obtained in the game.

You should never take untested data as actual facts.

By now we all have to accept that nothing Anet release will ever surpass Grenade Kit auto attack by damage. If they ever release something that does more damage than Grenade’s auto attack people will just complain it is too OP and demand a nerf thus making Grenade Kit the strongest again.

What should be compared is other Auto Attacks from other Weapons and Professions.

That is where most people seem to ignore and focus too much on Kits Auto Attack.

bomb 1 does ~33% more flat power dps with ~.2 less aftercast for a total of about 1.5x the dps of grenade 1. and its an explosion. and it hits 5 targets.

hammer 1 will do about 50% of the dps of bomb 1 to only 3 targets, with 33% less vuln generation in exchange for minimal might generation (which we already have lots of in better ways). thats unusable for a melee attack.

Is that with or without Power in the gear because the PoI video was using a build that had 0 Power in the gear set for Scrapper

Bomb currently does (without power)….
Damage: 444 (1.250)?
Number of Targets: 5
Fuse Time: 1s
Radius: 240

While current info we have for Scrapper’s Auto Attack has (without Power)….

Positive Strike(1st hit)
Damage: 364
Might (8s): +30 Power, +30 Condition Damage
Number of Targets: 3
Range.png Range: 130

Negative Bash(2nd hit)

Damage: 364
Vulnerability (12s): 1% Incoming Damage, 1% Incoming Condition Damage
Number of Targets: 3
Range: 130

Equalizing Blow (3rd hit)
Damage: 467
Might (8s): +30 Power, +30 Condition Damage

So… as you say, they just have to nerf Nades, and all will goes to balance.
As you say, nades are too strong, new hammer have to be stronger, to be valuable.

Am i right?

That is basically the only way I can see nades no longer being the best weapon in Engi’s kitten nal. Before Grenades was given the 3 nades the basic form of Grenade kit was only throw 2 nades and to make the skill stronger you needed a trait to give it 3 nades.

2 nades was designed to be strong or near as the basic auto of other auto attack weapons and 3 nades was the trait version to make it stronger for better DPS.

The 3 nades for Grenades has essentially made Grenade Kit Auto attack equal to 1.5 auto attack.

Hammer damage is ok, its about the same as guardians gs except for the last hit of the chain which guardians strikes harder but we get to stack twice as much might and 2 vul per rotatin. We also get much better utility and flow out of the weapon, so i would say we are ok.

I think the Hammer skill strikes harder because Scrapper’s 3rd Auto attack has…

Base Damage: 467
Might (8s): +30 Power, +30 Condition Damage
Vulnerability (12s): 1% Incoming Damage, 1% Incoming Condition Damage
Number of Targets: 3
Range: 130
Second to Cast: 1/2 second

but Guardian 3rd auto skill does…

Damage Damage: 443 (1.200)?
Might (5s): +30 Power, +30 Condition Damage
Number of Targets: 3
Range: 130
Second to cast: 1/2 second

and this is just the base damage without any power stats on the gear.

On that note:

I think the auto attack comparison should focus more on other Auto attacks from other weapons and the professions they are from. By now we may never have anything surpass Grenade Kit auto attack but compared to the other Auto-attack (excluding Grenade Kit) there are noticable things.

The auto is in a better place than the DPS weapons of some current professions. Not matching Grenades is not a good enough reason to bumb up the dps quite yet.

I think we can wait till BW3 before we decide whether or not the a small bump is needed.

Well in the end I don’t think Anet will ever make a weapon strong or stronger than the Grenade Kit for Engi.

Might as well just learn to accept that Grenade Kit will always be the dominate weapon of Engi unless a future Elite Specialization proves to be stronger than Grenade kit.

Thanks for the insight ocirne.
This is pretty sad considering grenades auto already does poor damage. You’d think a melee based weapon would you more damage than a ranged based one.

You should not take opinions of others seriously enough to judge a weapon “useless” until you tried it yourself.

Not to mention Builds around Scrapper has yet to be made and everything currently is all speculations created by numbers for the “Assumed” outcome so they are not the “Real” outcome.

A lot of things need to be tested first and Specialization trees need to be combined and tested on the field to find which would give which outcome.

Until physically tested we can’t assume anything said is what it actually is.

I don’t think the Scrapper tree was intended to challenge Explosives for DPS builds.

It is not meant to rival Explosives for DPS since Scrapper Tree is a Defensive Tree.

You’ll actually get more DPS out of it if you pair Scrapper tree with Explosive tree due to Scrapper’s auto applying Valunerability and use the Mortar Kit to give Scrapper their combo field when they go Hammer crazy.

However, this is only one way to pair the Scrapper Tree such as pairing it with Firearm tree for increase in Crit chance.

You’ll want to have Alchemy or Invention as the 3rd tree for the condition clense so it is a balance the 1 Offensive tree, Scrapper tree, and 1 Condition clense tree.

Hammer skills are the real star of Scrapper being great in defensive and offensive combat. Heck their defensive skills are even offensive skills if used properly.

Gyros have some issues they may need to work on after beta because they appear to be mixing Gyros between Range and Melee combat styles.

Certain Gyros you don’t want to have for melee combat due to being too close to AoE hits by melee attacks and certain Gyros are not as effective in long range due to time it takes for them to reach their target (ally or enemy).

However, it certainly brings on the frontline in your face combat style that was expect thanks to the Hammer skill and in a rich Combo field environment Scrapper can go crazy even with Super Speed.

My honest 1st impression on Scrapper

in Engineer

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

Gyros seems to be a mix of ones that would suit a Range combat style and a Melee combat style.

It is the matter of choosing the ones that would suit the style.

They don’t expect players to stick to only the Gyros due to how well the Hammer skills works with Engi’s other skill that provide combo fields.

It also appears they’re not expect to last long on the field and are more situational in both PvP and PvE.

The Hammer skills are what really makes the Scrapper shine in the end due to the crazy charging in your face madness it provides and in a group fight and dungeons there is plenty of combo fields to go crazy with the Hammer skill.

Engi’s current weapons appear to use some type of modification such as Pistol using Modified ammos, Rifle modified to fire different rounds (from basic, shotgun round, Net, and simple explosive round to give it the Jump ability), and Shield is modified with a Electric field generator into it to give its electric abilities.

The other two I thought Engi may get was Mace for a stun baton type weapon and Staff for a Technomancer theme and how a Staff head can be modified to generate electricity instead of being a focus for magic.

Not to mention each Elder Dragon hate each other. Corruption of the races is only part of expanding their army. The real fight the EDs are preparing for is towards the larger war against each other to consume what magic remains and to consume the magic the other Elder Dragons have already obtained.

We have also yet to explore the Western Continent.

well originally we were going to those other nations in GW1 but that changed when GW2 began development.

GW Utopia would have taken place in one of those places with the Chronomancer Profession as a new Profession.

Why do the dragons have minions?

Yes but we are screwed no matter what we do.

Only way to prevent the remaining Elder Dragons from becoming stronger is to some how discover a way to cut them off from consuming magic but that is more easier said than done.

For example, Zhaitan used the Mouths to eat magic since it sent the magic energy back to his body so killing them prevented him from gaining magic.

Mordremoth’s main source of magic is the Ley Line and since it is underground and Mordy can feed on it directly, compared to Zhaitan who needed a extension, he basically has a direct access to his own supply until the Ley Line runs dry of magical energy. He currently uses the Ley Line magical energy to create his Mordrems as we see by how Mordrem’s weapons are powered by the Ley Line and some of his Plants use the Ley Line magical energy such as the Mordrem Shield Plants.
