Because we choose to play Engineer since we like the gameplay and enjoy the profession. Compared to other Professions where players only choose them because it is the new “cool” profession or the “better” profession.

People should play the profession they like more because the only way, in my opinion, people would start improving themselves on the profession more than others is if they enjoy playing it and not because someone else told them to.

I would hope it can be condi oriented given the complementary kits: bombs and toolkit.

Well like I said it depends on what the Drone’s functions are.

Condition may be most ideal due to Engi current nature being very good DPS in cinditions but direct damage seems more likely for hammer.

The flame animation may be just for flashy animation sake as a way to show the hammer is being propelled by the force of the flames serving like rockets pushing the hammer for making more force.

After all a rocket propelled Hammer is something a Engineer may use for giving a Hmmer more force on their hits.

i saw the trailer and the forge is using some kind of flame hammer attack and its also a movement skill too

I think Forge may be more direct damage rather than condition damage.

However, it depends on what the Drones bring to Engineer’s gameplay.

Depends on what the Forge brings to Engi’s play style.

However, I’m only guessing now that the Forge may bring some kind of condition resistance abilities due to the Melee Combat nature.

I didn’t talk about anything related to HoT. o_o

I know but I mentioned the Forge because it will bring new abilities into the Engi gameplay which does offer the possibility to fix or make it more tolerable to deal with conditions compared to how Engi is now.

Not to mention with Forge being a Melee based Engi, Anet may have to consider how Engi will need to survive against conditions as the Forge being Melee focused.

That’s the heart of the engineer problem. It doesn’t deal with conditions well, you typically use adapted runes and sigils to cope with it, have Alchemy trait line (well, I suppose that’s nothing new to you), know your enemy and use Elixir S, and otherwise kill before being killed, which is something that Marauder Rifle and Burn builds excel at. Drawn out fights aren’t exactly our strong spot these days.

Depends on what the Forge brings to Engi’s play style.

As of now, in my opinion, it is best to have Alchemy Tree as one of your 3 trees since that will be the tree that provide passive Condition removal.

Not to mention some of the condition removed may turn into Boons which would benefit in improving your defense or damage.

HoT Main Story "NPC trusts?" [SPOILER]

EdwinLi.1284

It is really interesting playing through as a Sylvari and then as another of the races and seeing (hearing) the differences.
I do hope they add something in that is a bit different for each of the other races this expansion.
Remember this is the first time the Pact has hit rock bottom (this so completely). During a crisis such as this you would expect to see old prejudice arise. In a situation of lost hope we would be seeing (and hearing) to both the most ugliest and the most heroic actions in people.
Before the Pact was formed there was a feeling of mistrust between each of the races, not to mention each of the Orders . They each had their own obligations and troubles, at a low like this, some of them might be feeling that these obligations look more viable.

Basically give the other races (and each of the Orders) some love too.

I would not be surprised if there are other Race specific events as well beyond what Sylvari experiences.

In the Pact base in the Wastes you’ll notice there are soldiers from all Race that are only there because the leaders of each Race government are finally providing support for the Pact. From the Seraph of Kryta, Peacekeepers of Rata Sum, Wardens of the Grove, and Legions of the Black Citadel.

The support we had when fighting Zhaitan were just people who chosen to join of the three orders but none of them was directly there because of their government.

HoT is the timeframe when each Race has finally decided to provide support for the War against the Elder Dragons, with LW Season 2 providing the events that lead to the Races Government to support the War, but of course each of these soldiers do not trust each Race and even shown doubts about the Pact itself. Along with them reflecting the mentality of each Race’s government.

With such disarray happening I would not be surprised if we find surviving Seraph soldiers and Char Legion soldiers fighting each other to survive and we may be given a choice to side with one of them and if a Charr player choose the Charr Legion the Seraph soldiers would see the Pact Commander as untrust worthy and attack while if a Charr choose the Humans than the Charr Legion may call him a traitor to the Charr race and attack the Charr player with dialogue reflecting the choice and race of course.

This mission makes me wonder if there may be a mission where a Sylvari character turns on the others.

Making it a slight moment when the Pact Commander does fall under Mordy’s control resulting in the player turning on the Investigation Team and fight along side Mordy’s Minions as they arrive in waves for a set amount of time as the Invetigation Team keep self resurrecting themselve but eventually the pact commander regains his or her sanity back during the mission after the time limit ends.

However, the other race experience it differently by having to fight along side the Investigation Team against Mordy minions until the time limit ends instead.

After the time limit ends the events still follow the same events for both but with slightly altered dialogues to reflect on what happened.

HoT Main Story "NPC trusts?" [SPOILER]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

EdwinLi.1284

While this is only the first storyline I already notice there are altered events based on if your character is a Sylvari or not.

for example,

1) Only Sylvari characters can hear Mordremoth’s voice.

2) During the first mission if your character is a Sylvari and you choose to side with Lananthir two of the NPCs will leave the post thus lowering the defense of the place but if your character is not a Sylvari the two NPCs will stay behind and help defend despite not agreeing with your choice.

It is interesting to see the current HoT story mission being affected this way.

So what are your opinion about this type of effect on the HoT Main Storyline missions?

I find this rather nice and can certainly make the Main Storyline unique for different characters.

So what would you like to see being tested in next beta?

For me it is…

- full version of the first HoT Story quest. (Players was able to test the first path (save prisoners) of the first MSQ, Main Story Quest, in another beta already. Allowing players to test the fully version of the first MSQ would allow testing to see if the new updates to Profession and adjustments to Revenant can handle the HoT MSQ. Not to mention testing the ability to repeat HoT MSQ to try out different paths works properly or not.)

- Maybe a bit more access to the first area of HoT since it would be nice to test if they manage to fix the old issues with the first HoT map and to test if other parts of the map actually works.

I actually was thinking about this since Specialization does provide Anet a very good opportunity to provide Specializations that would allow our characters to use Aquatic weapons on Land.

This would provide some unique mechanics and more Specialization options.

It would also give Anet the chance to reintroduce Paragon as a Spear Specialization giving Guardians the ability to use Spear for land combat with a new set of weapon skills for Spears when used on land. Also, adding in more Paragon Shout Support/buffs.

Depends on what they have planned for Elite since so far Elite either help fill in a spot the profession is lacking (either melee or range combat styles) or expands on their abilities by introducing new mechanics.

With Revy lacking in Range Combat, with only Hammer as a Range Weapon and also designed to be the Tank Weapon, they may have Glint, or a Legend they yet to reveal, as 1st Specialization and give Revy a 2nd Range Weapon to cover this weakness of Revy focusing too much in Melee Combat.

EdwinLi.1284

The best excuse I can think up about our Characters being a Revy before the events of Rytlock introducing Revy into Tyria is either….

1) Our character relived the events of Arc 1 (Zhaitan Arc) of GW2 through the Mist.

2) Our character was once one of the other profession but became a Revy between the Time Gap of Arc 1 (Zhaitan Arc) and Arc 2 ( Mordremoth Arc).

3) The Main Storyline is set that if our character is a Revy, Player’s Character become the first Revenant in Tyria but if our character is not a Revenant then Rytlock becomes the first Revenant in Tyria.

Any Revy players or NPCs we see in the open world during the Zhaitan Arc is because our character is in the world during Post-Arc 2 (Mordremoth Arc) time frame due to the World of Tyria being always set at Post-Event time frame.

Revenant Staff Skills changed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

In my own opinion, I think there’s too many short-ranged weapons for the Revenant.

Sword…
Mace…
Staff…

The only decent ones in my mind are the hammer (albeit extremely slow and clunky, the range almost makes up for this – almost…) and axe offhand (both skills of which, have a range of 900 – which is fairly decent).

Would be nice to see at least one of those 3 weapons have an increased range. Mace would be nice. Keep staff and sword as close-ranged weapons perhaps.

No must keep mace melee must, revenant also has a bow, possibly the most access to taunt, possibly decent teleports etc but mace must remain melee condi.

Well it depends on what type of Bow and what the combat design for the Bow is.

Weapons Revy get seems to also related to certain Legends like how Mace relates to Mallyx the Unyielding/Trait path(Condition DPS) and the Hammer relates to King Jalis Ironhammer/trait path (Tank).

Taunt is a nice addition to the game but it is designed around characters that is prepared to go head on with a enemy or in a short dead lock like the DragonHunter.

If the Legend for Long Bow or Short Bow is a DPS focused Legend, it may not be given Taunt.

On that note….

As of now Revy seems to lack any Range Weapons beyond the Hammer in their Default Profession. I wonder if the 1st Specialization will give the Revy shot bow or long bow to make up for Revy’s lack of Range combat.

PS not to be rude but where did Anet mention a bow weapon for Revy because I’ve yet to see any info about a 2nd Range Weapon for Revy so far.

I hope the weapons is balanced enough so their value isn’t so great that it would make the majority of players ignore the other weapons.

Having 1 weapon type as the absolute best out of the other choices ruins the point of having multiple weapons to choose from since it causes the majority of the players to swarm on that weapon type because “it is the best” and ignore other weapon types and ridiculing others for not using the so called “Best Weapon”.

EdwinLi.1284

Like Crystallize said, that’s what alpha testers or QA will do.

Beta test will only be testing aspect of the game that requires large number of players.
WvW, DE, Server, Etc.
And I guess any crazy small bug at the edge of the maps.

Then those things I mentioned are still being tested since we don’t know if these issues will be working properly at a larger scale.

Alpha is often much smaller in population compared to Beta so the stuff covering characters are still being tested in Beta by how they function in a larger quantity and player base and how well the Map can handle the different races being played at once within a map that are using the new 1st Specializations or Revenant profession.

Majority of the issues covered that I mentioned would be fixed after Alpha but some parts in each section can often be overlooked or missed in Alpha due to a smaller amount of testers which is where Beta allows the smaller issues missed to be found due to having a Larger Players base.

Voice issues, Revenant Animation issues with different races, Dialogue in NPC text box being bugged saying you “this race” when you’re not that race at all, Animations issues and bugs on certain Races for 1st Specialization Beta testing are not always one hundred percent fixed after Alpha ends since these parts can be affected by a larger population of players as well.

-access to other races in character creation

how will this help ANET gathers data?
Beta is used for Anet test the game, not for players to preview them.

Because they have to test out the other races to make certain the other races work as well and nothing buggy happens due to players playing a certain race like…

-voice issues
- Revenant Animation issues with different races.
- Dialogue in NPC text box being bugged saying you “this race” when you’re not that race at all.
-Animations issues and bugs on certain Races for 1st Specialization Beta testing.

Basically just character testing for bug in the characters and things related to the player character.

Last thing Anet and players want is a Charr or a Asura that has the Human Voice dialogues and a good amount of animations not working for their 1st Specialization or Revenant when HoT is out.

To start I think so far….

next Beta (2nd beta)
-expanding on 1st map or full access to 1st Map. (more events and areas to explore)
-access to other races in character creation
-2nd path for the first hoT Main Story Mission (Path 2: Gather parts for turrets)

Beta After (3rd beta)
- Full Access to base Revenant Weapons and Traits.
- Small part of Map 2 and more Personal Story added (probably only 1 or 2 new Personal Story mission added) .

Final Beta before release (final Beta)
-Testing of all 1st Specializations (They don’t want us testing things not announced so with 1st Specialization slowly being revealed most likely this may be the last thing tested by Players)

I’m saying this is a guessing thread and what I mentioned in the OP is the best guess I can have by putting together what we know so far.

There is no rule saying people can’t guess about something just because you think people shouldn’t guess about something we don’t know yet.

Look at the 2nd comment down, not sure the starter weapon though.

So what Weapon for Rev's 1st Spec?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

Considering we aren’t 100% sure on what weapons they will use by default, guessing on the extra is asking a bit much.

We already know that Rev will have by Default…

Default Weapons
Hammer
Axe
Mace

with th assumption of
sword (from Rev’s Art work seeing him use sword)
staff (melee weapon shown in the trailer)

Other people speculate Rev may also get as default
Dagger
Shield

So that leave these other Weapons since Dagger is assumed going to Warrior, unless they get Pistol’s instead, and Shield has been confirmed to be for Mesmer. Staff is also going to Ranger so the Melee Staff skills as Rev’s 1st specialization would be against the rule of no 2 Specialization released on the same time use the same weapon.

Mesmer = Shield
Ranger = Staff
Engineer = Hammer
Necro = Two-handed Sword
Guardian = Long Bow

and so far people are speculating…
Ele = One-handed Sword
Thief = Rifle
Warrior = Dagger or Pistol

If Anet follows that the Specialization release is never 2 Specialization with the same Weapon Specialization then that leaves.

Rev = Focus or Pistol or Short Bow or Torch or Scepter or Warhorn.

Hope it is one of the range Weapons because so far what is shown for Rev’s Weapon choice he or she lacks Range Weapons with Hammer being the only Range Weapon known so far.

Razah?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

I have to say I am confused at linking Razah with Revenants. I do however share your desire to see Razah in GW2 since he is one of a handful of beings that could actually still be around. ArenaNet has hadnled the inclusion of characters that could be around quite poorly. Yeah, you wanna make a game that stands on its own, but to me the greater lore of the franchise is more important. Characters like Razah help to tie things together.

I wouldn’t hold my breath though. The story in this series unfolds way too slowly for my tastes. We are 3 years into the game and we still haven’t seen any actual Livia yet. Like confirmed Livia talkin to my character, “Hey! I’m Livia!” type stuff. She is way more important to the overall story and we’ve seen nothing. Razah may never show up and it would be a shame.

As said before with Razah being something that has a natural connection to the Mist, him returning as a Revenant Profession would be possible in GW2.

He originally took on the Role as a Rit in GW1 due to his natural connection to the Mists and with Revenant Profession’s nature as a Profession used by those who have a connection to the Mist and can manipulate the Mist Razah’s return as Revenant is possible.

As for his role in a return for GW2 I doubt is role will be big but just enough to expand on the game storyline like Ogden role in Season 2 unless Anet has other plans.

EdwinLi.1284

But rytlock never died. The revenants in this game never died and became a revenant.

You’re missing my point. I’m talking about Razah.

GW2 lore so far mentions Revenant are beings with Strong connections to the Mist which gives them their power as a Revenant which either through training or having a natural connection to the Mist.

Razah being a Revenant in GW2 fits the part that he has a natural connection to the Mist while Rytlock obtained his connection to the Mist through his experience in the Mist which falls into the training aspect.

A person does not need to be dead nor alive to be a Revenant in GW2. They just need to have the ability to connect to the Mist which gives them their powers.

Razah?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

Wait, how is Razah the original revenant? The only thing special about him was that you could change his profession.

I’m refering to how his lore is like the basic Revenant of mythology due to being a type of Undead being born from the Mist.

While in mythology the Revenant are depicted as Undead beings or malevolent creatures, Razah is more of a unknown due to his lack of understanding of living beings and emotions so he never became a Malevolent being.

He also has a unusually ability to communicate with Spirits thanks to his connection to the Mist as a Being born from the Mist.

Razah was a Rit in GW1. He was intended to be able to change his beforehand, however this was removed.

I never really got to try that function out back in GW1 due to not knowing about it. Though guess it was for the best since Razah was the only Rit Hero companion back then, before the other Rit heroes were introduced, and the Rit Profession suited his lore more due to being a being from the Mist.

Razah?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

EdwinLi.1284

So with the introduction of Revenant, do you think we will eventually meet Razah in GW2?

Razah has been one of the biggest mysterys of GW1 even to this day with a lot of question about him never answered in GW1. Ok basically every single question was never answered.

Every hero and heroine in GW1 had there own origins explained and explored providing even hints to what may have happened to them after GW1 but Razah still remains the mystery out of all of them.

With him being basically the original Revenant of GW, it would be interesting if Razah becomes part of the GW2 Main Storyline and we get to explore more about Razah’s lore.

Or provide a special Utility skill or change the Warrior Rage Skill into a skill that allows our character to switch into Brass Knuckle mode so we can punch enemies while increasing the effect of Kilroy Stonekin Shout abilties.

I think his point is that engineer would need double if not triple the amount of spec than a warrior to gain access to all weapons

If that the case then it shouldn’t be much issues since it is possible that Anet has plans for a Elite Specialization that focus on each weapon.

A easy release set up is to release the Specializations that adds a new weapon to the Profession then after the profession obtains all Specialization that gives them access to the other weapons Anet begins release the Specialization that focus on the weapons the Profession can already us in their Base Profession.

Such as a Rifle Specialization for Engineer and a Two-handed Sword Specialization for Warrior after the release of their Specialization that gives them access to the other weapons.

So eventually Warriors will have access to Pistols, Daggers, sceptors, staffs, torch and shortbows through Specializations.

Same with Engineer and the other professions for any weapon they’re currently not able to use.

They will just have a different twist to their game play like how Rev will be the first profession to use Staff as a melee weapon.

Kilroy Stonekin would be an awesome one, though. I see no practical reason for him to be added (therefore I’m guessing it unlikely – especially since we’re already getting a dwarven fighter!), just commenting on the sheer aweseomeness of the idea.

I include him since he would make a good candidate for a Spirit that gives the Revenant Shouting abilities and Melee Combat for Two-handed Sword right next to Devona since she was a Two-handed weapon type character despite being a Hammer user.

With Specialization being the Hybrid of GW2 like in GW 1 Rit/War, a Two-handed sword Specialization for Rev that focus on Shouts providing support buffs and improving the Rev’s own abilities would be interesting.

Not to mention the Elite Skill can be Kilroy Stonekin Shout which back in GW1 was the strongest Shout Skill in the game given to only Kilroy Stonekin. It would be a nice way to add in a Shout Elite Skill into the GW2.

I would aim for Togo. We would need well-known Ritualist. I believe Togo is most recognizeable Rit in the story. Others are,hm, Razah?

I don’t see Razah as a possible Spirit because he most likely is not dead. Razah wasn’t even a live to begin with anyways since he is a being born from the Mist.

At best I can see Razah as a returning character for maybe in HoT main story, depending on how long it is, or in a future storyline as a new Revenant NPC ally and hopefully play a important roll.

After all Razah is basically a Revenant due to his strong connection to the Mist which is what gave his ability to connect to Spirits in GW1.

I also hope if Razah returns that Anet would expand on Razah’s lore since he is still a big mystery ever since he was found in GW1 and between the time gap of GW1 and GW2 he should have atleast gain back some of his lost memories.

Shiro Tagachi is a confirmed Legend that we are getting, along with Ventari and Glint.

It’s hard to match a weapon to Ventari or Glint from GW1. I supposed Ventari would be a staff???

Shiro would definitely be daggers though. So my guess is daggers.

Hm Shiro…

If I have to guess he may be for the sword/dagger combo or dagger/dagger combo or Sword/sword or all three 3 combos.

Shiro was always a Dual sword type of guy anyways with his hacking and stabbing :p.

I’m still waiting on what weapon will Revenant’s 1st specialization be but meh they’ll give it to us in time since we still have months before the official release.

Though Revevant so far has shown to lack in the Long Range options for his or her weapon choices with only Hammer being the only Range Weapon so far so I’m hoping 1st Rev Specialization give us something like short bow, long bow, pistol, or rifle.
