Why do the dragons have minions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

EdwinLi.1284

It was already bad already since if left alone the Elder Dragons would have transformed all life into their own ideal image then exhaust each other by spending their magical energy going to war with each other until they put themselves to sleep.

All we did was break the long stalemate each Elder Dragon have with each other and now all that Magical Energy Zhaitan had is now released and up for grabs by the remaining Elder Dragons which will allow them to become stronger.

In the past none of the Elder Dragons were killed due to each awakening never having a unified organization to fight them due to infighting among and within the ancient races.

@ trehearne bit…

is that a joke or serious reply?

Trehearne is not influenced by Mordy since Mordy didn’t awaken until recently. the new Mordrem info reveal that the Dream prevented any Sylvari from following Mordy’s commands so he had no influence by Mordremoth.

Why do the dragons have minions?

EdwinLi.1284

It is part of their God Complex they have. Each Elder Dragons think the other races are nothing more than tools to expand their influence along side some belief they themselves above the other races.

While they hunger for magic they also appear to be trying to turn the world into their ideal world such as Zhaitan believing a world of Death is a ideal world and Mordremoth beliving a world that flourished in Nature is a ideal world. However, they also want to rule that Ideal world as Gods so their minions worship them as such.

However, from GW2 lore the Elder Dragons have never once succeed due to a constant stalemate between each Elder Dragon which eventually leads to them consuming all magic among themselves and falling a sleep again until they awake and begin their cycle once again with consuming magic and trying to shape the world into their own ideal world.

Yet now that stalemate has been broken since the Pact has successfully killed Zhaitan thus leaving a power valcuum which has never happened in the past cycles when the Elder Dragons awakened.

The Mordrem Guard possibilities.

I just hope Treehearn turns and we get to kill him.

You really want to take Trehearne’s Job?

Pact Leader Job requires you to take part in diplomatic discussion, Resource management, Connections for supplies and recuits, Ability to perform Desk Job tasks for 6 hours a day, Military meetings with officers, Recuiting members into the Pact, and a pay of 0 copper every day. Not to mention all your Dailies will be filling out paper work in your office and make certain to meet with each Pact officer everyday to discuss military strategy. Pact leader is not allowed to enter PvE, PvP, and WvW zones until Player complete all Dailies in their Pact office.

Compared to the Player character, Trehearne has a actual job while our character is just a freelancer until he or she joins a fight against a Elder Dragon.

[HoT Trailer] Could this be Sylvari ?

From what it is said Mordy corruption doesn’t transform them until he directly influence their transformation.

Think of it like Zergs from Starcraft, the Sylvari are only the basic form and they require a command to transform into their new form.

Mordrem Guard

EdwinLi.1284

Maybe the Commanders require a larger amount of Magical energy to maintain which is why Mordy doesn’t have a lot of them. Don’t forget back when we were fighting Zhaitan his strongest minions cost him a lot of Magical Energy to create and maintain so there may be a limit to how much each Elder Dragon can control in their army until they reach a certain level of strength after consuming enough Magic.

Think of it like a Unit limit where a Commander type mordrem cost him 10 Unit slots but a lower rank only cost him 1 unit slot.

Managing the amount of Magical energy spent seems to be part of the Elder Dragon’s army building since they are spending the Magical energy they consume to create their minions and with the stronger ones costing the most it would be unwise to spend so much of their own Magical Energy just to build a army and leaving themself in a weak state.

As Anet said there are more Elite Specialization arriving in the future and certain people will certainly find it better to stick with basic Specializations until one of the future Elite Specializations catch their eye.

Not to mention Elite Specializations are not meant to replace basic Specialization but to provide new gameplay style to the Profession.

I saw golem elite skill. I think drones have gone by the wayside. Can I just say, great we are getting a second weapon type, hammers suck. Am I a barbarianeer now? Do I hit nails in my off time? Am I a clown? Do I amuse you? If we are going to deviate from the motif, can we use 1h sword so at least shield skills can be kept? Hammers are the worst choice you could have gone with, bar none.

I can’t tell if this a serious post or not?

Hammer was actually on my top 3 things to expect if Engineer was given a New Weapon.

It fits the theme of the Engineer being builders because Hammer is also a tool to build things and can be designed with a rocket propelled function if Anet put effort into it which the current trailer seems to have with the flame animations. Second being Mace like a close range stun button and third being staff for some kind of Technomancer theme.

Two-handed swords and one handed swords were the last two I think Engineer may get since Engi is about technology and less about stabbing things. Unless they had Engi modify the Sword and Two-handed sword some how to fit into their Tech theme.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

I don’t know how many of you used mutliple Beta characters but the amount is most likely due to how Mastery is a Account Bound leveling system so all characters, even ones that are not lvl 80 yet, will share the Mastery Benefits unlocked for your account.

Guess the large Exp pool is due to the Mastery System being account bound rather than character bound so Anet may be expecting players to be leveling Mastery through multiple characters due to how certain players will be playing through HoT Main Storyline to experience how different it is for different characters.

Isn’t Lord Faren a bit dumber than most of the nobles anyways considering the game has him as the comic relief character of GW2?

A lot of nobles and other NPCs in GW2 find him a bit annoying and dumb in their standards.

Heck he was even run out of DR by a angry mob of Nobles and commoners due to causing Chauncey von Snuffles III losing 1st place and ended up 2nd place.

Well from current lore it seems Bubbles was heading towards LA anyways, no matter what Scarlet did or not, due to how most deep sea refugees mentioned being pushed into Kryta no matter how far they ran from DSD influence.

The only ets that didn’t suck were the earlier ones aetherized, dreamthistle and fused. It has been all down hill since then

I wouldn’t say down hill completely since Dwayna set are a nice addition to the BL weapon sets in a while.

The Dwayna weapon skins has that Hall of Heroes feel to them which is something I would have loved to see back in GW1 with HoH themed weapons.

However, I don’t quite fancy the rifle and pistol look for Dwayna weapons. I feel they could have put a little bit more effort into the rifle and pistol dwayna designs.

The Dwayna Shield is the most interesting in the Dwayna weapons.

I would have gotten the sword but since my main character is a Engineer I went with the Dwayna Hammer due to the Forge in HoT and I don’t quite like the Forge Elite Spec Weapon skin being a giant wrench.

I don’t think the dragons of Cantha eats magic.

However, there could be other reasons why Cantha would no longer be interesting to the Elder Dragons.

One hypothesis I have is that the Ministry of Purity and Canthan Emperor erased the existence of Magic from Canthan society so current Cantha may no longer have Magic users and citizens may think Magic as a myth or legend.

No magic users would mean less demand to create and use magic powered items which would lower the amount of magic in a area for the Elder Dragons to eat.

We know before they were cut off 100 years ago that they still traded with the outside
so they may have gained Engineer knowledge to advance their life without the dependency of Magic.

A lot of things can happen within generations of isolation and 100 years after all.

The graves of henchman can be found in the Shiverpeaks.
In the Spearhead Bane you’ll find the graves of GW1 Henchman.

The graves in Spearhead Bane are…..
Alesia, who was a healer henchman.
Hagen, who was an armorer.
Hagnon Warblade, who collected frosted griffon wings.
Hoknil the Lesser, who collected azure remains.
Little Thom, who was a brawler henchman.
Makar Thoughtslayer, who collected dredge manifestos.
Merin Trollsbane, who collected mountain minotaur tusks.

Well looking at your mapping most of DSD activity is at the southwestern locations.

Though I wonder how much spread out is DSD influence since so far the path you made seem to show that DSD is moving more towards Tyria.

However, it still a bit odd how DSD avoided having his influence spread to Cantha. The path in the map makes it appear as if something is luring DSD to Tyria slowly or something may be keeping it from having interests in Cantha.

As for the refugees from the Deep Sea, we can also assume they did not all fleed to Tyria only. Some may have fleed to Elona or Cantha as well but for now we lack any info if any refugees made it to Elona or Cantha.

We yet to know how much DSD reach is and so far only two Elder dragon we know that have the ability to reach Cantha is Zhaitan and DSD due to the Ocean being the only thing that is cutting them off.

Zhaitan is removed but DSD current remains unknown but may be the only one that can reach Cantha.

DSD only expands his army through bodies of water such as rivers and lakes. If the Emperor of Cantha has some secret deal with DSD then of course there would be no hints of DSD having influence. The Emperor, after all, wants to keep Cantha a Pure Human society so anything that would cause them to reach out towards the outside would be something that ruins their Human Society the Ministry of Purity built since their isolation.

A crazy hypothesis but what if Cantha’s Emperor made a secet deal with the DSD which has allowed them to remain unharmed by the DSD for all these years? While keeping this deal a secret from the citizens of Cantha.

We know the Elder Dragons are not so mindless as others may think since each ED can think, strategies, and so on. ED, like Jormag, even bargain with people as their way to lure them to their side mostly promises of power in certain forms.

If DSD is has territory in Cantha, it is rather strange that it remained unharmed for all these years considering how the Zephyr describe the place being so beautiful.

There is not even a small mention of him in GW2 current nor any subtle hints of him any where. Not even the Durmand Priory have any records of Razah.

EdwinLi.1284

Going to the Mists isn’t exactly unusual though, so I don’t know about the Revenant’s introduction facilitating Razah’s reintroduction. However, assuming that Razah’s cells are not subject to the same failure to take care of waste that others are (aka, mortals), then he should be able live forever, yes. Hm… I guess if he’s still connected to the Mists, the source of all things, then it could potentially renew him continuously, thereby making him immortal.

Razah should not be able to age due to being a Entity of the Mist so he should be still alive assuming nothing bad happened to him between GW1 and GW2.

Back in GW1 Razah mentioned Abaddon had trapped him in the Gate of Anguish for centuries so by GW1 he was already hundreds of years old. Among that it appears Razah does not become hungry so he can spend centuries without food and water.

Only question now is did Razah developed into something Human or did he become a Demon.

I for one am a big fan of the Human Charr peace treaty and the tensions around it.

but in the end the Elder Dragon is always involved in some way.

For example, if we lose the Human Charr peace treaty we will lose support from both Charr and Humans for the fight against the Elder Dragon.

Caudecus doesn’t support the Charr peace treaty because he is using the hatred between Charrs and Humans as a mean to gain support. Not to mention he doesn’t see the Elder Dragons as a threat so if he succeeds in ruining the treaty and take the throne Tyria is most likely going to be screwed by the Elder Dragons.

Cantha was cut off by Zhaitan and their isolation policy but with Zhaitan gone the only thing keeping people from making contact with Cantha is their Isolation policy and Xenophobic Policies of no other species allowed in Cantha except for Humans thanks to their Xenophobic Emperor. So the new masteries page on the HoT site has this three-headed dragon attacking LA from the seas….

DSD?

oh nice find. I have not seen the new arts yet for HoT but if this is true then we may kill both Mordremoth and DSD in HoT era. Early art did show DSD to have 2 heads but Anet often changes things until the final product is done so it wouldn’t be far if Anet decides to make DSD has three heads now.

I can only guess it may mean DSD may appear in HoT and have us fight both Modremoth and DSD or maybe Mordremoth remains the focus of HoT Storyline and Season 3 serves to be the Storyline for DSD.

However, these are just my guess.

Fortunately, that’s the GW1 lion statue. As long as we leave it at the bottom of the harbor, this catastrophe can clearly be averted.

It may be a glimps to what caused the fall of the original LA since we know a tidal wave hit the GW1 LA. People assumed it was Zhaitan but may be it was DSD all along.

Headstart date for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EdwinLi.1284

EdwinLi.1284

I always thought a big part of the reason for doing a headstart was to reduce the load on the servers by staggering when people start, and so the inevitable crashes and lag which result from everyone trying to get on at the same time affect preorder/purchase customers who are more likely to stick with the game in spite of that.

Since HoT uses the same servers and everyone who bought it can play already that’s not needed.

I’m more concerned if the new maps can handle the large swarm of new players.

After all we don’t want this to happen….
