What’s the point of the handicap? I mean other than to prevent the same guy staying winner forever if we imagine someone could, I know it’s meant to be lighthearted fun to see new innovative builds rather than a tourney to see who’s the best but the handicap kinda defeats that purpose if you ask me, wouldn’t it be better not to have that we might actually find some new build that proves unbeatable (by other rangers)

you answered your own question in the first sentence. it not about finding which is the most OP because typically a good play in a bad build will bet a bad player in a good build anyway.

It’s about having fun, being inventive, and an excuse get petty/trolly over something that don’t actually matter. If one person gets to the hill stays there permanently then this adventure would die and loose its fun very quickly.

we have a lot of condi removals available to us. some are easier to get then others and some only work in particular build types, some a re active and some are passive. We cant have every thing in one build, you need to fined a compromise. you wont get much condi removal on a full glass canon build and you have to give up some damage when ever you get some more condi removal.

S/T- A/D are still best for 1v1 dules, S/T- A/D builds actually got insanelyi buffedd with the changes to entangle, active sigents and might on axe. Thouse builds are so stong, they not much appreciated anymore by the ranger community(although they do require high skill and deep understaning of the ranger class). I rarly c them, but when i do, they own me like no other build in the game(and i’m talking from every profession).

ill bet with 99% certainty that he talks about the 02606, 02660 ot 00662 setups that uses a mix of apothercary and dire with maxed out -condi duration, regen, and pet burst.
i still run one of those builds. Their absolutely devastating 1v1 if you are adept at dueling. Even if you ain’t adept at it, the evade spam carries you a long way when combined with condition spam.

funnily enough ive only just started playing these type of build because of the recent buffs in the patch, particularly the Entangle cooldown and might on axe + fortifying bond.

here is my take on it.

3.5 seconds is way too short, particularly if the pet is already crippled, which is often.

For me its more about the passive stun breaker on a 10s cool down then the stability. It would be nice to have a way of keeping soft CC off our pets. watching a kitty-kat limp around because its cripple is hart breaking. we are pretty good a sending out pets soft CC (EB I’m looking at you)

Are people really CCing your pets that often? I mean I do rarerly, but I’m a ranger, and I only do it when I realize I’m about to get messed up by the pet.

some of it a is generic AOE cc spam. Worrirs spamming hammers skills, Fear that type of stuff. The only time I deliberately CC a pet is to stop pet rezing.

That’s fair enough and a lot of it comes down to what pets are you using and what are you trying to achieve with them. The synergy between DPS pets and Intimidation training is quite obvious and is a great (especially if you throw in Malicious Training) . But for a pet that already CC’s particularly ones that CC on there F2, such as Dogs and chill pets is Intimidation training that great in comparison to other BM master traits?

Your right though, you can go through and entire fight and it never proc’s but when it does it’s game changing.

TL;DR what do you think about Stability Training compared to the other BM master traits.

I felt like starting a discussion on Stability Training in comparison to the other BM master traits.

In spvp and wvw roaming I mostly run some sort of BM type build (0/2/0/6/6, 0/2/6/0/6, 0/0/6/4/4, etc). Prior to Sept 9 I have always ran Vigorous Training and then when the patch hit I used eagle/hawk and Intimidation Training. But I found that I still prefer to use dogs and the owl for pets so Intimidation Training is slightly redundant with those pets.

So I started traiting Stability Training. I have found it to be quite useful especially in pvp (but even in roaming). It gives your pet the ability to walk through aoe hard CC, which handy for Necros that have a few sources of fear, guards and there lines/shelter, hambows, decap Engis, etc. This gives your pet a higher damage output as it’s not getting knocked about buy that stuff, this counts for double against players the spot you as a BM and targets your pet.

Another great use for Stability Training is pet rezing, a lot of plays realise that you need to cc a players pet to stop them from rezing, particularly if you want any chance of killing them underwater. An example that has happen to me a couple of time fighting another ranger we down each other (seems to happen to me a lot in ranger v ranger), we both start pet rezing and we both thunderclap each other pet I disrupt their pet and mine continues to rez me, I get up and stomp them.

While the trait might not be as active as the others, and not as relevant in every fight (when compared to Vigorous Training which is always a good idea). It is very strong it the instances that it is useful.

If running only power gear would be inclined to take primal reflex over sharpening edged, in celestial gear not sure.

imo the best sigils for melee and close range wepones in zerging are;
- Water/blood
- Energy
- Renewal
- Battle
- purity/generosity
- the new Condi removal on swap sigil

I would be inclined to drop the blood lust sigil and use Water or blood lust and put energy or the condi removal on swap sigil

I was thinking about the whole hogging the hill thing. Maybe if we impose a handicap after every few wins.

Such as after every x (2?) times you keep the hill you lose a sigil or a trait point. (after 2 win can only fight with 13 trait point instead of 14, etc) and after y (10?) times you keep the hill you lose a weapon set, pet or utility slot.

I not sure how well i can participate in this as i play in OC time zone.

@ Prysin thanks for you suggestion i didn’t know that combo existed, but i agree Atherakhia my celestial gear to an extend fills the roll of Apoth+Rabid so i can always mix my full bunker get with celestial.

@Atherakhia why Dire is because of the extra Condi damage or the Vitality? for me Vitality is a limited life span with more vitality come more life span (and ability to take bursts) where as healing power increases your ability to recover lost health making it a battle of attrition. if only there was Condi/Tough/Heal with condi as the primary spec.

While i have a full set of Alts I’m quite happy to keep them in exotics as i don’t really play them except to learn how they work.

I have been using my Celestial gear in bunker/BM trait setup for quite some time now, I’m quite comfortable with it and it work well for me. I’m looking to go full bunker with my gear for some thing different, this is something that i will work towards slowly (except trinkets) and my not even use that much but more of a change of pace. there is a fair chance that full rabid trinkets will be the next lot of trinkets I’ll will get.

I would put killing a ranger underwater in the same boat as chasing a GS warrior/thief or dueling a PU mez. Don’t spend anymore then a few minuets trying, because it not worth it. Some classes are good a one particular thing.

the only thing that you can do about pet rezing under water in interrupt it, or not let the fight get there in the first place.

The 10% increase in re-fire rate could be considered and always on buff, for the longbow anyway and the predator’s onslaught is under these circumstances 10% buff. i would favor RtW not mention the arrow speed increase.

as far as spiders go, i love using them in glass bow builds ill even pick up the pet condi increase as will when using them. Its good for a change.

After the april patch (read RtW and SotF was introduced) i remember for about 2 weeks in soloq there where at least 2 rangers on either side most matchups, i even play a 5 ranger vs 5 ranger.

I’ve come to the conclusion the most people are closet rangers, just waiting for them to be buffed enough that it not so hard to play

just some suggestions, i guessing you don’t have a lot of trait investment in condi’s so why not in the skirmishing trait line use “Pets prowess” instead of “Sharpened Edges”. I would not bother with traps to much the utility’s i would take are out of Sic’em, Signet of the wild (particularly after tuesday next week), Quickening zephyr, Signet of the hunt, lightning reflexes and signet of renewal.

I think even in pve the are different parts to game, open world, personal/living story, zerging around and dungeons. and you can use slightly different builds for all of them.

I think that full BM builds are only relevant in open world and personal story. in zerg content and trains pets die a little easy and dungeons our meta build has a lot of pet traits in it.

for open world farming while i watch tv i use 4/5/0/3/2 and grab Masters bond it works until i swap pets by accident. but there is no reason you couldn’t go say 4/4/0/0/6 or 4/4/0/3/3 if you want to go all out pet spec.

If you leave a fight with things there to still attack you pet will continue attacking until you get some distance away then you pet will teleport to you then you will go out of combat.

Get in to the habit of either recalling you pet to you (F3) or swapping pets (F4) just after you want to disengage form a fight and you will get out of combat quicker.

Also stowing you pet when you want to run through area can help you stop getting to to aggro as well. This is less of a problem then it use to be.

Why are Ranger pets Nerfed so hard for WvW ?

I am not really sure why they made my pet so totally useless in WvW Part of the reason is the Nerf to its health in WvW part of it is the AI.

But every ranger skill, Trait, Weapon effect ect … that has anything to do with the ranger’s pet is Basically Useless. I counted 23 traits alone that effect the ranger pet in some way, shape or form Which makes me believe that the pet is a very important part of the Ranger as a class.

In WvW Never does a Leader ever say " I got room for 2 more, any Rangers out there need a group ?" Its always the same old “We need more Guardians or Warriors or Ele’s”.
They have become the holly Trinity of WvW.

It not that the health was nerfed for wvw, it was buffed in PvE. The wvw health of the pets use to be the standard.

we are a pet class so there are lots of pet traits, makes sense to me.

Thief, engis and to a lesser extent Mez’s are also not ask to join the commanders party ether. The ranger player base is also at fault for the “rangers are bad mentality”, to many of us think that we can shoot form a far with our bearbow and zerker gear and contribute.

Why celestial over carrion or rabid?

Fair question part of it is the type of builds i play and the way i play. I don’t like carrion much as it relies on protection for damage reduction, if you don’t have a high up time of protection or it gets striped you die to direct damage to quick. Also high vitality makes healing less efficive. rabid is a good set and there are builds that i do use it for (krait rune, bleed proc’ing type builds) but with any all out condi/bleed builds if you opponent can handle condis well then your out of luck.

Celestial with the appropriate builds is less rock/paper/scissors then all out power or condi builds, and you run in to all-sots of strange stuff in soloQ. Also a lot of our weapons are very hybrid in nature, SB, MH Axe, 1H sword dagger all hit ok on power and condi. Celestial for me is a case of the longer the fight goes on the more in you favor the battle becomes.

I’m also greatly interested in making a trap build, but theres no way I could take empathatic bond, trapper’s potency, and fortifying bond all in the same build. I could make due with healing spring and SotF for removal, but I’d only have enough room for lighting reflexes and entangle in such a build, plus no offhand training… so I guess I’m stuck playing BM, regen, or spirits.

I think we might start seeing a build like : 20606 celestial signet beastmastery a/t s/d pop up in solo queue as a homepoint defender or attacking far point. This build would have extremely high survivability due to signet of stone & renewal, as well as the passive regen from

Shortbow doesn’t have enough damage to be able to deal with elementalist/warrior sustain currently

I think when using axe and a pet spec, that picking up NM’s Fortifying bond will be the key. while we may only be getting 3s of might on hit our pet will be getting 10s of might on hit and we will be able to stack might on our pets in to the realms of ridiculousness. The options I’m considering are 0/0/6/3/5, 0/4/0/6/4, 0/2/6/6/0, you get the pitcure. what I’m realy look foreword to trying is something like this

and to address the OP I’m a big fan of celestial builds for YOLOq I almost always use Celestial over the condi amulets and i only use Settlers in tPvP when I’m playing home point bunker.

It will work, but i think that there are better options available if you want to play LB/GS

6/0/2/6/0 is a fairly stock standed build that will work ok, don’t bother using stacking sigils as you will die alot but it is fun.

I think that it depends on the level that you play at. If Eurantien says that there is not, he is proberly thinking of the highest levels of pvp, fair enough i don’t have any experience at that level so i can comment. but i have found at my level of play that 0/2/0/6/6 types of builds work for me.

PvP : Good close holder ? I would say mediocre close holder, remember that ranger has very little stability uptime, Guardian is far superior, a good ranger will hold for few minutes, a good Guardian can holt forever. Decent suport build at mid.
PvE : Easy game mode, everything is good
WvW : Good roaming class, inferior to most thief roaming builds/condi engi/Hambow warrior/PU mesmer

PVP if a decap class really wants they cause even a bunker guard to lose a point, we can have 30s of stability if we really want, just have to check you opposition comp before the match starts to decided between RaO or spirt. holding for a few minuits is long enough for help to come.

PvE yep

WvW: the only class that bother me is a PU mez and well just stroll away at your leisure
