Video of old AA?

in Ranger

Electro.4173

Yeah, I absolutely love the Ranger sword AA chain animation on my Charr. Super acrobatic and just flat-out cool looking, plus really unique. Its a shame so many of the cool animations in the game have to get cut because of movement during attacking. Its undoubtedly better for functionality, but its too bad the visual flair has to go as well. The new one looks so lifeless and boring, no acrobatics at all.

I actually don’t have any Charr other than my Ranger who uses a sword, so I can’t tell if the new AA animation is just the same exact animation chain that every other sword class has or not. But I suspect it probably is. Which is just disappointing.

Kaiser skin collection here to stay?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Electro.4173

Collections are permanent. Always have been. There’d be little to no reason to remove them anyway, since the skins would still be unlocked and having the skin unlocked in the wardrobe is all that it takes to count towards a collection, so if they ever did delete them and then re-added them everyone would just get any progress they had towards back instantly anyway.

Course Load Achievement

Electro.4173

Actually, I was looking at the Course Load achievement and noticed something which may suggest that it actually going to carry over to next time the Festival rolls around.

Its repeatable infinitely for the Kaiser Weapon Skin chest. Nothing much to glean from that. But the AP for the achievement is 20 points per repeat up to a limit of 5. Considering there are only 19 days in the Festival this year, it means you can only do it a maximum of 2 times (with a few leftover). The 5x repeat limit for AP is pretty pointless with that fact in mind, its literally impossible to even reach that limit (or get close). So its possible Anet was thinking ahead and put a limit on it because eventually we’d be able to reach that limit. In a few years.

Granted, that’s still just conjecture.

Electro.4173

I still only like the blue.. Green was passable but the rest bleh..

While I like some of the green and orange skins, I too prefer blue overall.

I think its because blue has more contrasts to it. The hilts have some different colors to them, sometimes red jewels and such, the shield has the yellow face with the blue outline, that sort of thing. With all the other colors its all just the one color and that’s it pretty much.

Its also easier to see the white to color pulsing gradient effect on the holographic bits with the blue weapons, since all the other colors are really light to begin with, so the change to white isn’t as apparent. If we ever get the purple or red ones it’ll probably look better on those as well.

Electro.4173

The orange ones actually make more sense than the yellow ones, honestly.

The 10-bauble pick ups are orange, not yellow. Even the hidden shop in W1Z3 where you can buy baubles says they’re orange. I always thought it was kind of weird that the 2nd Trib mode set was yellow given that fact. I can’t remember if it was just fan theory that they were following bauble colors or whether Josh himself confirmed it

I guess it makes more sense if they’re going by item rarity. But then there wouldn’t be red ones at all, so even then its not a perfect theory since I believe red showed up in datamining at some point back when SAB’s 2nd release hit.

The alternative, however, is that they just needed another color to add and they weren’t going to use red or purple because they’re saving those in case they ever do get around to adding World 3 and 4 Tribulation Mode. Which wouldn’t really leave many options if they’re going for bright primary / secondary colors, so orange just got picked as the best possible option of the choices left.

I’ve never actually bothered looking to see if it was actually broken after that scene. Kind of silly that it isn’t. But I’m much more bothered by the fact that after I’ve beaten the Chak it needs to meander over to the area where the cutscene takes place while becoming invulnerable to damage. They should have put the scene at the beginning of the fight so it could start where its supposed to be instead, IMO.

Selling SAB

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

One interpretation is that ANet does consider it an exploit but the amount of work involved in a ban wave for something that isn’t economically affecting the game as a whole is more than they want to deal with while in a crunch to get content to us as promised in lieu of legendaries.

They’ll just roll out a fix to stop the behavior and after that it will no longer be possible, so it’s only a short term impact.

That’s not the same as saying “sure, exploits are fiiiiine.” More like “this one is annoying but not fatal to the game and won’t last a whole month anyway.”

That’s a realistic scenario, sure. But if that is indeed the case, they should have made that clear in the post, rather than using phrases like “we don’t have a problem with it”. Saying we consider it an exploit but don’t have the resources for an extensive banning session is a far different thing than saying we’re OK with it as long as no scamming is involved.

Or just say its an exploit and leave it at that even if they don’t have the resources to go banning people. At the very least that keeps people most people from doing it more for fear of potentially getting banned even if in reality it won’t happen, as opposed to now where its just open season because Anet says they don’t have a problem with it.

Selling SAB

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Wow. That’s…. um…. a thing I guess.

On one hand, I suppose it fits with the selling of everything else in the game which they seem to have no problem with. Sell dungeons, sell raids, sell fractals, sell jumping puzzles, who cares, anything goes.

On the other hand, Tribulation Mode is meant to be a test of individual skill which you aren’t supposed to be able to bypass through such means. Its the whole reason its restricted in the first place, with the big red letters kindly telling you that you can’t join partway through a run. So while this response may be in-line with the rest of the game, its out of line with what Tribulation Mode in particular is supposed to be.

And the fact that the restriction exists and is being bypassed is clearly an exploit no matter what the policy is for other parts of the game with similar practices, so having Anet just come and say “Yah, whatever, its fine” definitely isn’t something I feel is a good direction to go in. Its even worse that they’re saying they’re going to fix it at some point, because its basically saying “Not only are we OK with it, but you better do it now”. So they’re not only accepting it, but in a way even encouraging everyone to do it ASAP.

Flute notes sticking bug

in Players Helping Players

When you play the first note, you have to wait for the activation bar to finish before you can play additional notes. Basically, your first note will always take 1 full second and all later notes can be played as fast as you can hit them.

That. And also, if you try to play other notes during that activation phase, sometimes it’ll just bug it completely, I’ve noticed.

Best thing you can do is prep it in advance of when you need it, hit one note, let the activation bar fill, then once its full you can play whatever you need on it. It’ll be functional and work right until you put it away after that.

Ironically, you actually found where the quest will eventually take you. But, you found the hidden way into the area (the one that’s accessible in the open-world as well, there’s an achievement for getting there outside of the story instance). So no doubt you skipped a bunch of quest triggers, so even though you’re in the area you’re eventually supposed to be in, nothing is going to be working right.

In the open world version there’s some sort of portal that lets you get out of the chamber if I’m remembering correctly. However, that portal doesn’t work in the instanced version, so you’re pretty much stuck there.

You’ll have to log out back to character select. That’s the only way I know of to quit a story mission without completing it besides getting outside the borders, which you can’t do.

How much gold do you have?

Sitting at 289g and change right now, at least as far as pure gold goes.

Which is actually pretty high for me. I think the most I’ve ever had at one time was 330g or so, so I’m getting close to that point again.

Usually I have much less, but through a combination of lack of new gem store weapon skins I’m interested in (last ones I bought any of were Soaring, and those were cheap since a lot of other people didn’t like them) and the fact that I just sold off a full stack of ectos (I sell a stack whenever my collection gets full) I’ve got a nice little nest egg at the moment.

I don’t expect it to last much longer though. Once my Revenant hits 80 I may consider getting the T3 cultural armor for her, as well as needing to get her all geared up. And a really cool weapon set in the gem store could drain a ton of that away instantly.

Why do SAB rewards disappear so quick?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

With the exception of world 1, every other stage has like a 40-second (or more) timer before the chest disappears and you port to the next stage. So saying “within seconds” is quite an exaggeration. And there’s usually a checkpoint like right there, even if you do die.

I can’t speak to baubles from enemy mobs as I almost never play with a group in SAB anyway.

Tribulation Mode Reward Timing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Its definitely intended. The rewards like baubles at the end of the stage were always time-gated (though previously they were once a day per character rather than once a day per account). Tribulation tokens have never been gated, however.

I imagine its because they don’t want people undertaking that challenge and getting nothing to show for it. And its not like anything you can get from doing it multiple times is sellable, so there’s no negative impact on the economy either.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

There is a lot of hearsay in this thread. I doubt that many have even put forth the effort to raid.

People are afraid of raids because they are afraid to fail. It’s hard to fail most content in this game. Open world has a reputation of “press 1 to receive loot.” You just can’t do that in raids.

I don’t think people remember dungeons when they came out. They were hard. No one had the right gear. No one knew the dungeon mechanics. No one knew their classes.

Now they’re easy because people know what to do. It’s even easier for new players because they can mimic the experienced ones.

The same thing will happen to raids. I found VG hard the first couple of weeks. But I was inexperienced, and the group was inexperieced. Now it’s much easier. Because people know what to do.

So try out raids. Fail. It’s ok. That’s how I learned. I tried sloth every day the first week it came out, and didn’t beat it. Now I do. Because I learned the fight, and so did everyone else.

It’s actually a lot easier for you now, because you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You can have an experienced player tell you exactly what to do. Exactly what build and gear to bring.

So join a pug group. Create one (I don’t raid on a schedule – I pug every week). Join a guild. You can be the solution. So just do it.

I’m not afraid to fail if its just me. I don’t like my failings dragging a group of other players down, however. Makes me feel bad for wasting other peoples’ time. And I certainly don’t much care for being raged at for it either.

There’s a “butter zone” so to speak where you can get in early and fail with everyone else, learn as everyone else learns, and be fine. But past that point, then you’re the one holding back the group while everyone else knows what they’re doing, that’s what I don’t like at all. I don’t want to be the “lame duck”.

Its why I don’t do dungeons, don’t do fractals, and don’t do raids. I missed out on the learning period for all of those things so now its a lost cause in my eyes. Even with new raids, the experienced raiders are still going to have a better idea of what to do than I would having never touched a raid before.

There’s the whole ascended thing too. I’d rather spend my time and gold on fun skins and multiple equipment sets for all my characters as opposed to just spending thousands equipping one character to the “max”. Besides some ascended trinkets here and there (Amulets on all characters since you get them for laurels, one character with all the Sinister trinkets from LS2), I have basically no ascended gear. One staff I crafted for the skin, one chest piece from my one and only ever ascended drop, one backpiece I made for the skin. So not only do I not meet any experience requirements, I also don’t even meet what most consider the basic gear requirements either.

SAB is back! [Merged]

Electro.4173

I don’t think it has anything to do with “penalizing people who purchased buffs”. Rather, its probably to prevent potential issues that could be caused by certain buffs like HP regenerating food and such, which have historically created issues in modes like this which aren’t supposed to utilize normal game stats. Flashbacks to never being able to die in stuff like Dragon Ball, for instance. So rather than code something complicated to go through and nullify / remove only the problem buffs, they probably just put a simple “remove all buffs” flag on it.

Not the “best” solution perhaps, but the easiest and one least likely to be gotten around.

Went to go sell off my last Super skin I had in the bank (Focus) and while the sell order is still sitting at over 400g, the highest buy order is just 15g. Granted, I don’t know what it was prior to SAB’s return, but I’m assuming a lot more.

I don’t even know if the sellable skins can still drop from the reward chests at the end of stages or not, but either way 35 bauble bubbles and a couple gold get you an account-bound skin from Moto, so… pretty easy to get them for personal use while SAB is around.

Dragons overused? *story spoilers

in Living World

Electro.4173

Anet tried to do something different and give us a villain that wasn’t a dragon with Scarlet.

And when they did, people were constantly complaining about the lack of focus on dragons. I vividly remember lots of complaints like “Uh, you guys know there are still dragons out there, right? Why are we focusing on random political stuff / random enemy groups / a random Sylvari instead of dragons?” and even stuff like pointing out that the game’s title image has a dragon on it, so it clearly needs to be primarily about them.

Personally, yeah. I liked the first season of LS where the focus was on the world and new villains slowly popping up as opposed to dragons. But its clearly not what the majority want.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

While “short” bows and longbows are different types of weapons IRL, I do agree that its kind of odd that they added both to GW when the differences between them don’t really come through in a video game (or at least not this one). Visually they’re extremely similar, and while the different skill sets themselves are different enough, it doesn’t really reflect the real life differences particularly.

I think using regular bows and crossbows would have been the better call for visual variety, if two bow types were desired.

That said… what’s done is done at this point. Shortbows are a thing and removing them or combining them with longbows would be pointless now. The devs spending time removing things from the game would be a waste.

Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Very mixed feelings on this.

On one hand… I almost couldn’t care less about legendaries. Way too much work and gold for me to devote myself to unless there’s an absolutely amazing skin that I just absolutely love (there hasn’t been one yet). So personally, this change is going to have next to no effect on me.

On the other hand, I can definitely sympathize with the great many people who DO like to focus on legendaries as an end-goal. And a full new set of legendaries was something that was advertised for HoT and the months following. Heck, I’m pretty sure the talk of new legendaries was the thing that hyped the crowd the most at the HoT announcement event (which I remember thinking was kind of silly, but to each their own). So to come out and say that they’re being put on hold “indefinitely”… that’s a big blow.

And honestly, I’m not sure exactly how much good pulling a whole 6 people is going to do towards living story / general development. If the expansion team is 70 people, I imagine (or I would hope, at least) the living story / general team is probably similar in number. So that’s, what? An extra 10%? I’m not really seeing that making a huge difference. I mean, every little bit helps, certainly, but I don’t really see it giving a really significant boost to the LS timetable or anything. Is that worth abandoning legendaries altogether? I know people have been getting pretty restless when it comes to the progress on the new legendaries (and I don’t really blame them, HoT came out months ago and we’re still another month away from getting just one more legendary) but I’m sure they’d prefer slow progress to none at all.

I’m almost tempted to say what a lot of people are saying and suggest pulling people from the gem store team instead, but I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t help, as the gem store is primarily just art assets, and I’m assuming the problem with the legends isn’t art assets but rather programming the “journey” part of it. The new legendaries are nice and flashy and all, but they certainly don’t seem so flashy that they take multiple times over compared to some of the more interesting gem store skins, so the actual programming, coming up with quest ideas, ect. seem the more likely culprit.

That being the case, I guess the issue isn’t just “Well, the 6 people won’t help LS that much” but rather also “The 6 people can’t handle it on their own, so its either pull them from legendaries and move them elsewhere or pull people from elsewhere and put them on legendaries to get them out in a more reasonable time”. Which does make it a bit of a stickier situation.

In the end, though, I think I do agree with the people who are suggesting pulling some from the expansion team and putting them on the legendary team instead rather than nixing legendaries altogether. Because in the end, the new legendaries were advertised with HoT, and I don’t feel its the best move to keep all your assets on expansion 2 when expansion 1 hasn’t yet delivered all its assets.

Any suggestions are likely a moot point now, though. Anet typically doesn’t tell us info like this unless its set in stone, already done, so… its probably not going to change now anyway.

I do for sure appreciate that they’re actually telling us this as opposed to just doing it behind the scenes and leaving everyone wondering “Where the heck are the legendaries?”.

Bubble Glider?

I think I’m the only one that dislikes this… “glider”. It literally looks like a resized rip off from the ele overload water skill and it’s quite awkward. Oh well, least some people out there will enjoy it.

I’m hoping its not QUITE as big as it is in the preview window. Like, I don’t really mind the concept (though its not something I’d buy personally) but it really is enourmous in the preview.

Actually, if its the right size I may actually consider buying it for one specific reason. It doesn’t clip with Asura’s heads. Like pretty much every other glider that isn’t wings does.

Also, to reply to the reports about it being dye-able… I don’t think so. If you have a glider that takes dyes on your character, those dyes you have chosen will automatically be applied to any other glider you preview in the Glider screen. And the bubble is blue no matter what dyes I’m using on my normal glider.

Mushed Spore Samples, why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

The main problem isn’t the mushed samples. You’re guaranteed to get at least 1 pristine sample per patch, occasionally more since you’ll sometimes get a bonus forage of the “good” plant. I’ve gotten as many as 4 pristine samples from a single plant before, though of course that’s incredibly rare.

Also of note is that there’s always only 1 good plant in a patch, so once you find it (its random) you can leave the rest alone if you don’t want the mushed samples. Though you make a profit on the mushed samples by vendoring them even if you’re using Orich sickles, so its not a complete waste to grab the mushed ones as well. It used to be that you could even tell which plant was the one that was going to give the pristine sample because it would show up on the map named while the others would just show as “.”, but they fixed that a while back.

Heck, there are even other ways to get Pristine Samples. Every Toxic Spore event is guaranteed to give you at least 1 Pristine Sample (you can harvest the spore after the event completes), and they occasionally drop from Toxic mobs as well, though the drop rate is hardly reliable especially since Toxic mobs are tougher than regular enemies and so you can’t really kill a lot of them quickly.

Rather, the main problem is that for the most part they only show up in a single zone, and a low-level one with no world bosses or anything at that. So aside from doing stuff like daily Kessex Hills event completion there’s really no reason to be there for most players. So you’re probably there specifically farming samples, which makes it seem like more of a chore.

The spore events do appear on a handful of other maps (Brisban Wildlands for sure, and maybe 1 or two others) but those are also all low level maps, and the events are too wide-spread to be a reliable source of spores. So realistically, its just Kessex Hills.

Only being on 1 lowly-populated map also has a side effect of making them fairly expensive to buy as well. Well, that and the fact that most of the items you craft with them take tens or hundreds to create.

Revenant has other repositioning tools (like basically everything in Shiro stance to some extent) and even if you do think it needs more, Phase Smash isn’t a good place for it. You’d lose way more utility than you’d gain by doing so.

Underwater Revenant is awful

They could have extremely easily made all the legends sans Ventari work underwater. Make the AoE targeted spells hit the targeted enemy instead of being an aimble AoE ring. Or for Inspiring Reinforcement, just make it go straight forward where you’re facing (or straight toward the target, either way). Simple, and a method that’s been used on plenty of other skills in the game.

The fact that they didn’t just shows how little Anet cares about underwater combat.

I can only partially blame them, though. While developers should put effort and care into every part of the game, on the other hand most players don’t care about underwater at best and outright dislike it in many cases, so if it comes down to prioritizing where to put that effort, its clearly not going to go to the thing people are at best ambivalent to.

As far as the weapon goes… I don’t mind it. I mean, I do agree that the reason for only a single weapon is almost certainly the fact that Revenant initially had no weapon swap. But I actually think its a cool concept having a true dual-nature weapon, ranged and melee / condition and power in duality, and works pretty well. Heck, I actually hope they use the concept for other weapons in the future. I do agree it seems a little underpowered, but that’s nothing a few number tweaks can’t fix.

[Survey] Shredder Gyro?

I love the concept of Shredder Gyro. A utility that’s basically a “finisher in a can” and one that Engineers lack otherwise (Hammer has one, but that’s it) is a cool concept. So I wouldn’t want it completely reworked. Whirl Finisher rework seems unlikely and shouldn’t happen just for the sake of this one skill (not saying it shouldn’t happen in general, though, they’re easily the weakest finisher type, but it should be for the entire game and not just Shredder Gyro). Sticking to an opponent could be useful, but it wouldn’t fix the skill, and there’s definitely some advantages to having it ground-targeted over enemy-targeted (more control over which fields you want to use, for instance).

None of the options listed seem ideal, IMO.

Personally, I’d do the following…

~ Remove the cast time (none of the other gyros have it sans Blast, which works differently than other gyros anyway, why should Shredder). One of the best features of gyros is zero cast time, letting you use them in the middle of other skills.
~ Give it multiple finishers instead of just a single whirl every time it triggers. Like, have it do 3 whirls every trigger. More whirls = better chance of hitting.
~ Either let it use the stats of the Scrapper OR give the gyro innate stats in stuff like healing power, condition damage, and condition duration. Nothing ridiculous, but enough for the finishers it puts out to have an effect.
~ Let the Gyro use the players’ priority for fields rather than acting as a minion. This is a big one, because fields can only be used by so many separate entities (5, I believe) and minions get lower priority. Which means that you can throw your Gyro right in the middle of a bunch of fields during a larger scale encounter and get no finishers because its a minion and thus players get “first dibs” over the Gyro for field use, and a mass of players probably has dozens of projectiles flying into it at any given time. Which is fine for most minions, you probably want players to have priority in general, but when the whole point of Scrapper Gyro is finishers it pretty much defeats its entire purpose.
~ Maybe add a bleed per hit or something to the Gyro’s attack, but that should probably be saved until after all these other changes to avoid doing too much all at once

~ Oh, and on the aesthetic side… give the gyro an actual attack animation. Right now it just kind of floats there and yet somehow its creating a whirl finisher and attacking. Its whole body should be spinning, or it should be slashing its sawblade arms around, something so that it actually seems like its doing something.

Pre-order next expansion?

The only reason I can think of that I wouldn’t is if I stopped playing GW2 altogether. Which… I mean, I can’t guarantee won’t happen, but if it hasn’t happened after 3 years then it doesn’t seem particularly likely unless they make some really dramatic negative changes.

If I’m still playing GW2, then I will want access to the highest amount of content possible and to “keep up” with the current state of the game. And that means buying expansions. And if I’m definitely going to buy it, I may as well pre-order and grab whatever bonuses they’re offering, get beta access, and be able to play it ASAP which means less chance of getting spoiled.

What happened to Irenio btw?

I’m guessing he’s still at Anet. Just he (and most of the other devs) have returned to the norm of very little forum communication. Heck, prior to him showing up before HoT I’d never even heard his name before.

Multitool pack doesn't change for kits?

in Engineer

Electro.4173

It had nothing to do with the multitool pack.

Kits used to come with their own backpack graphics dependent on each kit back in the day. Didn’t matter what other backpack you had equipped, using a kit would equip its own backpack on you as part of a visual indicator of which kit was in use. Most players didn’t like it because it covered their own choice of back item with something you couldn’t choose, they complained about it, and the devs finally agreed and changed it. Now there’s no backpack associated with kits, just a different weapon held in the characters’ hand.

The Eir fight is pretty simple if you know the mechanics.

The main thing you want to do is just completely ignore attacking period when Eir is doing her rain of fire arrows from the sky. Literally ignore everything and just run. Forward, so that you’re getting full speed, not sideways or backwards.

Once the fire rain ends, then you stop and take Garm out.

The fire rain is pretty much the only real threat during the fight.

The problem with the larvae event is that its so darn unclear what you’re actually supposed to do. Its unclear where you’re supposed to get the beetles to go and unclear which chak are actually a threat to the beetles and which ones are just ambient enemies who are “there” but not actually part of the event. I’ve seen many people, myself included at first, running around killing every Chak and then wondering why the heck nothing was actually happening. Only when I by chance saw one of the beetles go into the center area and glow did I figure out “Oh, ok, that’s where they need to go and I don’t need to worry about the side areas”. With all the arrows on the compass in HoT events telling you how to get to areas and such, an arrow pointing to the center where the larvae actually need to go would have really helped. Also, the larvae take their sweet time doing anything even once they reach the target area. Which, granted, pupation isn’t exactly an instant thing, but some kind of sound cue or animation or something letting you know that something is actually happening would be nice. Make them actually turn into cocoons first and then beetles, something.

Beetle feeding… yeah. I remember that running a bit long. But nothing too horrendous. The event to collect airship parts for Ordinance Outpost in Verdant Brink is way, way worse.
