5 blast finishers off a single skill? Sounds broken as heck to me.
If I’m not incorrect, the festive golem mini was from the first Wintersday and has remained an exclusive to players who were playing early on.
Correct. But the Mini Snowman was also such (along with the Mini Infinirium) and that one came back this year accessible to anyone. So maybe the Golem could do the same at some point. Probably not this year, but perhaps next? I’d appreciate it for sure, its probably my favorite Wintersday-themed mini pet but I opted not to buy it despite being around during the first Wintersday.
Been suggested numerous times in the past. But yes, it would be a great way to incorporate tonics. I’d say it shouldn’t even be just endless ones. They already have a system in place where limited use items can fit right alongside infinite ones (the finisher system) so I’d like to see ALL tonics get incorporated into such a bank / wardrobe type system.
My guess is that its because its already less “intrusive” than the other old auras were, and the fact that there isn’t aura sharing on light aura so you never get a situation where its spread to a large group.
Its the “Melee Attack Assist” checkbox in the options menu under combat / movement. Uncheck it and it’ll get rid of the “collision” area.
There will be. They’ve already announced that all weapon types are getting a new legendary… eventually. Or all land-based weapons, anyway.
Its just a question of when. And they’ve been very quiet on that particular front, as they often are with releasing timelines of anything (as if they miss the timeline it makes people mad).
You should have gotten one or two mastery points from doing the story steps leading up to “Establishing a Foothold”.
My guess is that you’ve got the mastery points, but have yet to get the experience needed to learn the Basic Glider mastery. Just go into your Mastery window in the Hero panel, make sure you select Basic Glider, then go kill some enemies, do some events, and so on until the bar fills up. Once you fill the bar, then you can go back to your Mastery panel and click Basic Glider to actually learn it, and then you’ll have access to your glider.
I don’t think its a bug, but I do think its something that ought to be changed. Being able to heal your pet at will is kind of important for a Ranger, and without a built-in pet heal Glyph of Rejuvenation just doesn’t offer that sort of healing potential. Its too conditional. It requires you to be in melee range of your pet, not be in a large group of people (since the heal prioritizes players over pets), and even then its really low healing potential unless you’re in Celestial Avatar.
Heck, if “double healing” your pet is really that big a concern (I don’t really think it is personally, since the non-Avatar heal is low anyway, and in avatar form you have plenty of other heals) then I’d gladly have the pet exempted from the AoE heal in exchange for just a flat heal of the same power as the Ranger himself gets.
His name is Ho-Ho-Tron. You can get him from presents or on the TP.
He may be talking about this.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Festive_Golem
It was only available during the first Wintersday, though. I do wish Anet would bring it back along with the Mini Infinirium. They brought back the Snowman at least, so that’s something. Maybe next year.
Very handy indeed, nice job.
Though you could perhaps add a caveat to exotics that asks if you need Dark Matter for Ascended Crafting, and if so then salvage.
They will likely never be on the TP, and likely by design. Expansions have exclusive content, that’s just the way it is, and the sigils and runes are part of the exclusive content in HoT.
Hmm. Didn’t know they dropped from BL chests. But they don’t appear to be tradeable, so that doesn’t really help me (I need to be able to gift it to someone).
Thanks for the input though.
Looking to get a dancing mini-pet of some sort for reasons Secret Toymaker related. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Super Spider, but that’s obviously not an option for multiple reasons (the least of which being its not available ATM).
But as I’m hardly an expert on mini-pets considering my collection of them is relatively small, I figured I’d ask and see if anyone knew of any others that fit the bill. Just something that has an idle animation that looks like its dancing or something would do.
You’re not trying to talk to the king while the event for defending the king from the giant destroyer is active, are you?
And you have the mini pet either in your inventory or bound to your wardrobe, right?
You need to be using the dash skill at the moment you hit the light orb for it to automatically cause you to leap forward.
Depending on lag, that may mean you have to hit it well in advance.
No word on them yet.
The fact that they weren’t included as collections like the armor probably means they’re going to be a Black Lion weapon set at some point. At least IMO, but that’s just a guess.
Pointless necro on a post that barely even applies any more, since conditions are no longer capped and I haven’t seen copper fail in ages.
I don’t have a Sylvari character (yet) and for me, it’s due to a lack of variety in appearance. So many things could be done with the hair alone, such as ferns, pine needles, or even palm fronds. Accents such as flowers (daisies for instance) would be pretty interesting as well.
I’d bet players would even pay for such variety.
The artist that primarily worked on the sylvari hairstyles told us long ago (back when there were still racial forums) that stuff like pine needle hair or ferns would be too resource-intensive for the engine since it would require too many polygons to look right.
Hilt bash is an awkward animation on its own, much less as part of an AA that’s going to be repeated. Do not want.
I actually really like the current AA animation string, but then again I play Asura, so maybe its just better on them than other races. I definitely don’t want it to be changed to anything more generic, though, that’s for sure. I already hate that my Guardian and Mesmer have the exact same animation string for their sword autos.
IIRC, as per the Shiro reveal stream the idea behind skill 5 isn’t just control, but rather pulling an enemy out of a group to assassinate them away from their buddies. Which fits perfectly fine with Shiro.
Having it just be a straight-up ranged pull would probably be more universally useful, but it would also remove the uniqueness of the skill, and would require you to already be away from the enemy group in order to pull off that sort of assassination type maneuver.
Having a shadowstep would be completely redundant with Shiro’s stance, which already has a built-in shadowstep in its utility set. So that’d be pretty boring.
I’d rather the skill stay as it is, but just get some tweaks to reliability and pull distance. Maybe give it a small ranged attack aspect (maybe something like 300) to help with the reliability and let you catch fleeing opponents a bit better while still keeping the general flavor of the skill in-tact.
As for the block… yah, its pretty lackluster. I don’t have a problem with OH sword having a block, as Herald is an elite spec and not part of the core Revenant so I don’t think its really fair to say that sword can’t have defense because shield already does. But it does need some help in overall effectiveness, namely as far as Shackling Wave. It should do a lot more damage, maybe get a wider cone and / or longer AoE (600 range perhaps).
I’m guessing the reason UA counts as 7 separate attacks rather than a long channel is mainly because they didn’t want to lock players into hitting a bunch of nothing if an enemy dies partway through the attack. May be easier to make the game stop an individual chain of attacks if the last one doesn’t hit (just like an auto-attack chain) rather than trying to get the game to stop a channel halfway through.
It would be a nice flavor change, I agree.
But I assume they chose a more generic message since Revenant isn’t the only profession that sees that message. Druid and Necromancer get it too. Probably Warrior as well, though I don’t play one so I can’t be absolutely sure on that.
I don’t see the issue. Just farm 125 gold and buy what you need.
You don’t see a problem with a single sigil costing 125 gold?
Sounds like Foxfire cluster all over again.
Not really like Foxfire Clusters at all. Actually, Foxfire is relatively common all things considered.
The closest analogue is probably Passion Flowers, and even then Freshwater Pearls seem rarer than those ever were as well.
Considering that Passion Flowers were deemed so rare that they went ahead and gave dedicated nodes just to allow people to gather them somewhat reliably… yah, I think Freshwater Pearls are far too rare currently. Something you need 25 of just for basic gear like upgrades shouldn’t be so rare that the price on the TP is twice that of even the most expensive lodestone.
A toggle would be great, but it should be a 3rd option in addition to the current two. I wouldn’t want it to replace the current “hold to snap to target” functionality.
I doubt the weapons were designed with Chronomancer in mind in the first place. Seems more like a general “passage of time” type theme, fitting with New Years coming up. So I have zero problem with the whole “no purple” thing.
As for the skins in general… I’m so-so on them. They aren’t bad looking by any means, but they aren’t really the best skins ever either. I’d probably like them better without the big rotating clock graphic plastered on them, honestly, because I do like the overall color scheme and the crystal base for the weapons. Though that would remove the entire theme of the set, so not the best idea overall, just my own personal opinion. Also, from watching the Dulfy video, the ticking weapon draw noise seems like it might get kind of annoying after a while.
I’ll probably pass on the set. I’m still sort of considering the hammer for my Guardian, since she only has one hammer skin currently and uses a crystal theme. But I’m still on the fence and leaning towards “no”.
Guys, Gaile Gray said the achievement was going on even after wintersday, so you can do other things than grinding it. Of course it’ll be a bit harder after wintersday is gone, but you’ll be able to do it.
Only if you have gold. The tree doesn’t provide enough presents to complete it and with presents removed from drops, the price will only rise. If you don’t have time and can’t afford it now, you’ve got no chance after wintersday ends. Anets claim that it can still be done is complete bunkum.
The supply of presents will slow down considerably after Wintersday ends, true.
However, it does mean that it carries over until next year. So if you’re willing to wait a year, the supply will jump again, there will hopefully be less demand as some people will have given up or gotten it this year, and you’ll still have whatever progress you’ve gained towards it.
I don’t think its DR.
Rather, I believe that ~1000 karma (unboosted) is the intended normal amount, but they give a bonus reward for the first couple of Wintersday activities you do each day. Probably to give a little extra to players who don’t have a lot of time to play.
The main reason I think that is that the karma above the “normal” amount seems to come separate from it, at least sometimes. Sometimes I just get a lump sum of like 6000 karma, but other times I see it as 1000 karma and then an extra 5000 (and sometimes even another 1000 as well).
That and the fact that 6000 karma per jumping puzzle run / bell choir song is kind of ridiculous.
I don’t believe there’s any way to see your progress, beyond the fact that once you reach the max the map reward will disappear from the map screen until the next reset.
I suppose you could keep track of your progress with a spreadsheet or just writing down what you’ve gotten on paper and then using wiki, but that only helps if you start doing it right away, not if you’ve already gotten partway done.
Yah, its rather annoying.
I’ve literally never seen an activity not let me in because its “full” in all the other time I’ve been playing GW2, and I’ve been here since almost the beginning. Its very odd. I’m not sure if they just didn’t anticipate it would be so popular and cut resources for it intentionally or if its some sort of bug where the server for some reason isn’t creating new instances.
Either way, its something that needs to be addressed by Anet, because with the puzzle being deemed the “best present farming method” widely across places like Reddit and in-game, its not likely interest will die down until people start getting enough drinks for their shoulders (and even then, you have all the people farming for presents to sell instead).
Its definitely possible solo, but its much easier with a group. There always tends to be a handful of trees or rocks that are very easy to miss, and its much easier to find them if you have 5 people looking rather than just 1. Not to mention that its also easier to do by finishing the instance and then doing it afterwards so you don’t have to worry about getting attacked constantly, which slows you down.
Staff Guardians are the best ones to get the achievement as the auto-attack hits a wide area. Elementalists aren’t too bad at it, though. Dagger #1 in Air attunement and Air Overload (if you’re a Tempest) do it well enough.
I’m going to assume you’re just saying you’ve never seen anyone using them as a point of exaggeration, because I really doubt that. They aren’t super common or anything, but I tend to see at least a couple of them in any large zerg or any time I’m walking around LA checking other characters out.
And even if they were rather unpopular, there would no doubt be someone out there that likes them. Changing them now would be crapping on someone, somewhere, and possibly for a skin that you wouldn’t find any more impressive than the current incarnation.
if you mean the ones that attack the dolyak. Then you are not supposed to hit them with snowballs anyway, but you need to kick them. So click f for kick when they are in range.
You’re supposed to be able to do either (though kicking is much faster and easier). And there’s actually a daily that pops up that requires you to hit 15 of them with snowballs.
But yah, the hit detection seems excessively buggy this year. I’ve managed to hit a couple successfully (seems possibly tied to hitting a skritt right after its been kicked by someone else), but it seems extremely hit-or-miss (leaning more towards “miss”) whether it’ll work or not. And its not just because players are kicking them away, which is the main explanation I’ve seen people use. I’ve had times where I’ve stood directly in front of a skritt that wasn’t getting attacked by anyone else and threw a snowball at it point-blank and not registered a hit.
Its never been a problem in past years, so something must have changed this year to cause the issue. It’d be nice if they could fix it before the end of the holiday, but its only a daily so its not the end of the world if it doesn’t happen.
Assuming the achievement you’re referring to as “Wintersday Master” is Seasoned Toymaker, you only need to do 18 of the 23 possible achievements to get .
Just skip the super grindy achieves (which are the two you mentioned as well as the 3 repeatable ones which only count once you max the count) and do the rest.
There’s no longer a way to trade the ugly items directly for other things, no.
You can, however, buy wrapping paper from the vendor in DR, then trade in wrapping paper + ugly items (different amounts per each) to get wrapped gifts, then give said gifts to orphans in exchange for karma. And then use that karma to buy stuff.
http://dulfy.net/2015/12/16/gw2-donation-drive-orphan-locations-guide/
I really don’t see a problem with it.
Yes, its a holiday. But I don’t see why that means you can’t have a single item that’s more difficult to get. If people don’t want to waste their holiday grinding for a hard-to-get item or flat out can’t get it at all, then so be it. Its not like this one item is the entire point off the festival and without it there’s nothing to do and nothing to earn. Its one reward that goes a step beyond for people who want to work a bit harder and have the capability to do so.
Maybe there wouldn’t be so much outcry if they had added more new stuff besides just Winter’s Presence. And that I can agree with. Halloween this year had a good number of new shinies to get besides just the bat shoulder, where with Wintersday there’s not much new beyond that and some guild décor. So it could be funneling everyone’s attention toward the one new item and then disappointing people with the fact they can’t get it. Some other, non-elite items may have dispersed the attentions of some people.
But even then, its more of a “well, it would have been nice” type situation than a “OMG this is awful why would you do such a horrible thing” one, IMO.
While getting the new special shiny is nice and all, I hardly think its the “only” thing that makes the festival enjoyable. Its there for people who want to go a step beyond and get something extra special with a wad of gold and a variety of skills. The festival activities themselves and the other rewards like the star of gratitude are the stuff meant to be more for “everyone”.
Way to respond just based on the title instead of actually reading the post Agemnon.
I’ve always hated “free play” time during Bell Choir. Most of the time people just sit there and do nothing anyway, barring the few easily amused players who like to spam random notes like a caffeinated squirrel. Its a waste of time. I want to play songs, not sit around for a minute twiddling my thumbs. There’s already enough waiting between rounds as it is.
Heck, I don’t even think its good for players who may actually want to play random stuff on bells, since then those people have to put up with playing all the actual songs first and only get a minute of free play. No one wins, really.
Add a “free play” mode that you can pick when first entering Bell Choir from DR. That way people who do want to play random stuff can do so without a time limit, and people who just want to play the actual music can do that without putting up with losing time from free play itself.
The thing is it’s not even just waiting around because when free play ends it kicks you back out to DR. It’s completely pointless, like you can’t even just stomach the minute and the game starts again, you get kicked out and have to try and zone into a new instance.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post, but if you’re getting kicked out to DR between every round then something is wrong. Maybe you’re getting hit with the AFK timer or something or having some sort of bug, I dunno. Either way, I just played a half dozen rounds of Bell Choir back-to-back just fine. You just have to stick around until free play ends, then wait another 15 or so seconds as the scoreboard comes up before the game shuts that round down and starts a new one.
It may seem faster to just exit out of the instance and try to enter a new one instead of waiting, but between load times and getting into instances that are already close to ending themselves… I’ve never found instance-hopping worthwhile for Bell Choir.

Bristleback does amazing DPS. Its glass, but still. Extremely useable. Probably my favorite of the new pets in terms of overall effectiveness.
Smokescale is solid. DPS is still pretty nice, and the smoke field has some good utility for tanking and stealth shenanigans (though I don’t really use the latter).
Tiger I don’t have yet, but I used it during beta, and its just a normal feline anyway so its not like its anything drastically different. Its good. Good DPS as with most cats, and the Fury is a nice touch to have a DPS pet with some support built-in.
Wyverns are garbage. Can’t hit anything, bad DPS even when they do hit, disappointing F2 skills. I still use them occasionally because they look awesome, but if I’m doing something that requires a “good” pet then they’re out of the question.
The wyverns need a ton of work to be useful.
Not only are their attacks slow as heck to the point where they can be avoided by players with zero effort and even by normal mobs if they aren’t 100% stationary, but their DPS is also awful even if they do manage to hit things. They have similar DPS to stuff like Moas and pigs, with the only advantage being they hit AoE (but so do drakes, and drakes have decent DPS, so that’s really no reason for it). Their F2 skills are woefully underwhelming. The Fire Wyvern’s does mediocre damage, deals some minor burn stacks that drop off way too fast, and the fire field is wonky. Electric Wyvern’s does even worse damage, has a pointless lightning field that does nothing, and leaves the pet having to chase down its opponent afterwards, which is very bad given how slow they attack and how bad they are at chasing enemies down. Wing Buffet will activate at its exact range limit, which means the first hit will knock enemies out of the rest of the hits even though it barely moves enemies at all.
I’d say the wyverns need all of the following to be considered good…
~ Attack speed increase. Seriously. Just this alone would probably make them decent at least.
~ Better F2 skills. Fire Wyvern’s should do more damage and the burn stacks should last a few seconds rather than just dropping off immediately. The fire field should also start as soon as the attack starts and just expand over the duration much like the Reaper’s GS#4. Electric Wyvern’s needs more damage, needs to create a trail of electricity instead of just a circle at the end, and the lightning field needs to do something (damage, debuffs, ally buffs, whatever). Oh, and it should be a leap finisher, because look at it. Clearly leap finisher material.
~ Fix the AI for Wing Buffet so that it doesn’t use the attack at max range and blow enemies out of it
~ Possibly add a Blast finisher to Wing Buffet, though that may be pushing it and may step on the toes of Drakes too much.
Sadly, I’m not holding my breath for buffs. Its all been brought up before even during beta by myself and others and nothing has come of it.
I was fully expecting the exact same content as last year (and every year basically). Its a festival, and Anet has already said they’ll largely be the same each year and aren’t meant to introduce a bunch of new stuff, but rather just bringing back the stuff people enjoy each year for a bit as something different from the norm.
I am a bit disappointed in the lack of new shinies, though. Halloween gave us some some new minis, a new bunch of weapons, and an armor / backpiece or two as well as the fancy sought-after effect shoulder. Wintersday is… one mini (basically, I’m not really counting the versions that just add another couple packages) and the fancy effect shoulder.
Kind of lackluster by comparison, unless I’m missing some of the stuff, which is entirely possible since it just started and all.
Yah, I was pretty excited to hear these supposed “conversations” the legends were supposed to have with your character.
Perhaps they figured they’d end up annoying after a while and people would complain about them, or just ran out of time. Either way, I’m pretty sad that feature never saw the light of day.
I wouldn’t cross your fingers too hard. I don’t really see past bundles being split up as there are already no doubt tons of people who begrudgingly bought the bundle for one or two items that would be majorly ticked off if they suddenly split them apart.
It is nice that this one (and hopefully future ones) are separate though, for sure.
I’d rather get 6 distinct new hairstyles than just have them copy-paste the same 3 to both genders, personally.
I’m glad we finally got some new customization options period. Its been a while.
As for the specific hairstyles themselves…
Asura – There’s some nice variety, so I definitely appreciate that. Male hairs are kind of hit and miss. First style looks more like a bad rug than actual hair. Second style is… funny (if you like having brains on the outside of your head) but not something I’m a particular fan of. Third is alright, quite different from most Asura hairstyles. Won’t be switching my male Asura to any of them. Females fare a bit better. First one quite nice looking, very ornate. Second one is… strange. Tentacle hair? Third one is again pretty nice. I probably won’t be switching my female Asura to any of them, but I haven’t ruled it out entirely just yet, still considering the 1st or 3rd as a possibility as I’m not 100% happy with her current style.
Charr – Most of the hairstyles are entirely too samey, both within the set of 3 as well as Charr hair in general. And is there some rule where Charr hairs have to be the hugest things on the face of the planet? I mean, the new batch isn’t quite as huge as the last couple, but they’re still pretty ridiculous. Also not happy with the fact that 2 of the 3 are just copy-pasted between the two genders with slight adjustments in position / size. About the only hairstyle of the whole bunch I actually like is the 3rd female style, which is pretty nice (bugged eyes not withstanding). Won’t be using it since I love my female’s current style though.
Sylvari – Sylvari hairstyles are almost always my favorite, and this batch is no exception. Basically all of them range from good to great. First male style is great, a unique slicked-back style and cat tails. I love cat tails. Second style is kind of basic, but not bad other than the lack of glow. Third one is really nice as well, love the variety of leaves and the shape. For females, first one is nice enough. Not my personal cup of tea, but not bad or anything. 2nd is great, love the flower type chosen, different from the other flower styles. The one complaint I have though is that the glow on the flower is just basically the whole flower and it kind of washes it out and doesn’t look that great. Third isn’t too good on the top, but I do really like the bits hanging down. Definitely will be considering possibly swapping my male or female Sylvari’s styles, though none of them are quite amazing enough for me to switch instantly.
Don’t really have strong opinions about the Norn or Human styles as I don’t play those races, but they look decent enough at a glance on Dulfy.

I’m not 100% sure it is fixed. At least for mobs. Was killing the Treasure Mushroom in the Glade yesterday, and a bristleback was doing his kitten est to kill me.
I was a little higher up than it, and not one of its spikes hit me . . . they all flew through.
Yah, the fix seems to apply only to pets and not enemy mobs.
Which is good, because bristlebacks would be a nightmare if you couldn’t “cheese” them with elevation. Constant streams of high-damage tracking projectiles from a mob that takes ages to kill even with full offensive stats. Good luck with that.
I’m 90% sure that the problems hitting at different elevations is actually the way the devs intended for you to fight bristlebacks, The pets having the same limitation was probably just something that got carried over and overlooked.

I didn’t bother watching the livestream either, but Dulfy’s stream notes don’t really mention Toypocolypse at all (though I imagine its included in the “returning ect.” category). So I’m guessing there wasn’t really mention of it at all.
