Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
As a new player (but a long time Guild Wars 1 player) I absolutely love:
-That ANYONE around you can help you in a fight, and you can help anyone else in a fight.
-That ANYONE can rezz another player without needing to be a certain class or have certain equipment or consumables.
I had finally reached my “home” area, a lab for my Asuran character (I forget the name of the instance) and I saw this giant root outside and a little bit below a window. I was in full explore mode, and figuring that there wouldn’t be a root there if it didn’t go somewhere. I jumped over the window sill, landed on the root, and started running down it excitedly thinking “Wow, where does this go?” when suddenly my little Asura gave yelp and dropped dead. A message appeared saying “Your party was defeated, return to outpost?” (one I am very familiar with from all those years playing Guild Wars 1).
I guess I ran past the edge of the instance, which I had no idea that it could KILL you.
It was my first death too. ~foreheadsmack~
Unfortunately, Thread Necro also has the longest cooldown.
Here’s my back of the envelope choices for the major parts for a general gaming system.
CPU – i5-4690K
3rd party CPU cooler – Hyper 212 EVO is good and cheap.
Video Card – GTX 970, overkill here but assuming you play other games.
Asus Z97 motherboard – they have a plethora of options.
8GB of DDR3-1866 Cas 9 memory. Not too pricey, not too exotic.
650 watt high end power supply from Seasonic, Antec or Corsair (personal favorites)
Interesting, this is pretty close to the rig I’m getting close to building.
What I have so far:
CPU: i7 4790 (regular, I have no plans to overclock)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 gaming
GPU: GeForce GTX 760 (This was actually a gift, I didn’t buy it)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Memory: 16GB DDR3 that I got on sale at Newegg for about $60.
HDD: 3TB capacity
What I still need to get:
Mid Tower (I should be getting that this weekend, and I’ve been doing my research on which case should fit that massive CPU cooler).
Power Supply.
Any extra fans.
I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 on my CAD machine at work. I can’t wait to start playing at home as well.
I definitely remember how it sounds in Guild Wars 1 (which I still play quite a bit) as one of my heroes is a Minion Master. Does it sound any different in Guild Wars 2?
I’ve been calling these random shouts Schizophrenia Mode.
Same outcome as using Princess Bride quotes around clueless hipster friends. It’s a filter to find others with the same exposure to pop culture that you have. Those that acknowledge it should be the people you get to know better than trying to educate your friends.
Indubitably.
I’ll bite, but I’m not sure I’ll be wanted as I’ve only been playing this game for a few days and I really have no idea what I’m doing.
Only character name: Zerina In Aeternum (Zerina eternal)
Account name: Endless Soul.5178
Favorite game mode: PvE
Server: Henge of Denravi
Number of Necromancers: 1 (only character actually)
Congratulations OP. I have one daughter and she is the best thing that ever happened in my life. I can only imagine what 4 more would bring.
I just got here, I have no hate.
As a player who just started, is it explained in the game as to what happened? It used to be a nice, natural place in Guild Wars 1.
I kind of like this Schizophrenia mode.
Hi! I dropped this game a few months ago now I’m back but still confuse about some stuff in this game.
Like? We aren’t Carnac here.
That’s a great reference.
Just got this game fully downloaded and started playing yesterday. Now today it’s more downloading. There goes my lunch hour.
Not complaining, just expressing my luck status.
Hi I’m Endless Soul.
- I’m a 46 year old male living in Southern California.
-I work at a small HVAC Controls company working with AutoCAD to design control systems and plans for commercial projects.
- I’ve played Guild Wars 1 since open beta. My main character over there my mesmer Alastrine Isolde.
- I only just started playing Guild Wars 2 yesterday. I’ve known about Guild Wars 2, but due to life circumstances, I didn’t get a chance to buy it until recently.
- I’m married, and we have a 8 year old daughter, but due to life circumstances, they’re in the Seattle area, and I’m stuck in So Cal until further notice. (Can’t wait to rejoin them).
- I’ve technically been a gamer since my mom brought home PONG in the mid 1970s. Atari 2600 and Intellivision followed in the 80s.
- Most other MMO games I’ve played were usually combat flight sims (WarBirds, World War 2 Online, War Thunder etc,). Aside from Star Wars Galaxies, Guild Wars is really the only non-historical MMO I’ve really participated in and I still absolutely love.
Very nice sounding! Jeremy Soule is awesome.
I’m in no rush. I’m the type of player that likes to take their time, and absorb everything the game has to offer. Exploration suits me just fine.
As a new player who just started playing a Necro today, I find this thread chock full of useful information.
Although I haven’t died yet at Level 7, I’d like to keep it that way for at least a while longer.
Hello all. I literally just started this game.
I’d like you to meet Zerina In Aeternum.
I know, I know, what’s the big deal about starter armor right? I’ll post again as she progresses through the game.

So now you can say that you actually live, breathe, and eat Guild Wars 2.
Hmmm, I think the last time I got a console, it was SEGA Genesis before Sonic the Hedgehog came out. I’ve been pc only ever since.
War Thunder (a game I was playing until last October) figured out how to mix pc and console players. As it turned out, the console players were pretty easy to kill.
To be fair, War Thunder is a completely different game.
I believe you’re looking for this?

Have fun!
Oh, that’s really helpful. Thanks for posting that!
I hope you have a huge jump drive! How are you getting it home?
I actually do have a couple of portable drives that can hold that DAT file with plenty of room to spare.
Mine is still ongoing. DAT file is just under 2GB.
However, I’m only able to download at work, and only for a couple of hours in the morning before my coworkers show up and start complaining the someone is taking up all the bandwidth.
I would download at home, but gosh, this is an…impressive download and I don’t think my room mate would appreciate me using it all up (it’s his internet).
283,000 files to go!
Forgive my ignorance (see my signature), but what is AP?
Achievement Points – every 500 AP you get, you get a chest worth of goodies and such.
I see, thanks. Can’t wait for this game to finish downloading so I can start playing.
Forgive my ignorance (see my signature), but what is AP?
I’m only able to download at work for a couple hours in the morning before everyone else shows up. Once people start showing up, I have to pause it as it hogs up too much bandwidth and they start complaining.
Can’t do it at home as my pc is old (in the middle of a rebuild actually) and can’t handle the game yet.
It’s been a couple mornings now, and there’s still 289,277 files to download. ~sigh~
I’m having the same problem having just bought the game as its on sale. I download the setup.exe, it goes fine until it asks me to log in and then it just appears to be stuck on that page, i’ve been sat here for half an hour waiting and nothings happened so far.
Yep, that’s the problem I’m having.
Having the same problem, endless login progress circle.
Purchased the game (hey, who can pass up a $10 opportunity?) downloaded the Gw2setup, moved it to my intended install location, ran it. It did show some "Downloaded <x number>/<x number>mbps, then it went to the login, which is where it’s currently stuck.
Checking out the solution above, will let you know how it works out.
EDIT: A search found a GW2.exe, GW2-TMP, and a GW2SETUP.exe in a prefetch folder, all of which end in .pf extentions. Not sure if those matter to what’s holding everything up.
