3. Finally, we have the VERY defensive RPer(s) that aren’t looking at the situation properly (IE: what the topic is actually about) and are getting upset that anyone dares to tell them “where they can or cannot RP”.
lol, good times on the Internets

For the record (if that was about me), I don’t RP in GW2. It’s just the “exploiter!” hysteria that pisses me off.
RP1: My word! Do you hear that? What is that sound?
RP2: Oh, that? Nevermind that. Those would be Krait. Filthy, ill mannered creatures, one and and all. They come in from whatever hole they call home and enslave the villagers.
RP1: Enslave the villagers? Shouldn’t we do something?
RP3: Oh heavens no. Look outside the window. There are plenty battling away as is. More tea?
RP1: Delightful tea by the way, but I believe I have had my fill. But to remain on point – doesn’t our mere presence here increase the number of Krait? Aren’t our sheer numbers making it more difficult for them to fight the Krait off?
RP2: Perhaps. But that isn’t our concern. We here to have civil conversation, not fight slimy brutes in the street like common mercenaries.
RP3: Yes, it isn’t our concern at all. And if you knew the price I paid for dye at the auction house to get these town clothes looking just so, you would not be asking me to switch into that horrible looking armor right now. More cake?
To be fair, they could well have an in-character reason not to feel obliged to help villagers being kidnapped by Kraits. Perhaps they were not “heroes” as the OP assumed.
So are you saying we should let people continue to do this and earn free rewards? Why do you not want people to report this as a bug that needs fixing?
Don’t take words out of my mouth. I never said that this should happen. I am saying that people should not be banned for standing there chatting or roleplaying. Can you even prove that this is an issue and that someone is actually abusing this? It makes no sense. A stupid excuse to demonize a group of roleplayers
OK.
1. Don’t take words out of your mouth? Don’t take words out of MY MOUTH. I never once said anything about banning people. Chill the kitten out man.
2. I don’t give a kitten if they are roleplayers. I have nothing against roleplayers. Why do you care so much that they are roleplayers? You are the only person in this thread who cares about either of those two points. Understand?
Exploiting is a bannable offense. Don’t call people exploiters if you don’t think they should be banned. I am talking about roleplayers because that’s what this thread is about. People should be free to roleplay/chat anywhere for as long as they want without being branded ‘exploiters’, period.
They are possibly getting karma from those events as well. A lot of events will give you karma (bronze reward) if you just happen to be passing by one as it is ending. If that’s the case, they could possibly be exploiting the system by essentially camping a DE spawn point.
Sorry, but that’s just ridiculous and absurd. So hanging in an area chatting with your friends is exploiting now?
Your not supposed to earn rewards from an event you didn’t participate in. You’re only supposed to get rewards for actually killing stuff or whatever else the event requires. So if you’re standing around in the area, gaining rewards, and not actually participating? Then you are taking advantage of an unintended bug and that is the definition of an exploit. Especially when said exploit gives you free Karma, XP, and Gold!!
Except that you can’t prove that the intent is to abuse the system. Standing there chatting with your friends is not exploiting. Seems like some very ridiculous excuse to crack down on roleplayers who very obviously were not exploiting anything.
I don’t care if they’re rpers man. Get the chip off your shoulder. If you got rewards from an event you didn’t participate in, don’t you think you’d find it a bit odd and maybe report it instead of just sitting around continuing to get rewards? That is dishonest, whether they intended for it to happen or not, it’s not right. Or if you see an event going on nearby and people are having a hard time, maybe you’d either help out or go somewhere else? It’s about being considerate to your fellow players.
So should we ban everyone who gets a bronze medal for running near an event now? They’re all exploiters according to your logic. The person who brought this up clearly had this happen to them – so he is an exploiter and must be banned. Get some common sense. Maybe we should ban everyone who goes afk in wild areas.
I don’t know about you, but I might suggest reporting it as a bug so Anet can fix it? why are you so argumentative.
I am argumentative because you are suggesting that people should be banned for nothing.
Show me where I (or anyone else for that matter) said people should be banned. Nobody said it (except for you, multiple times) and that is not even the topic of the kitten thread. We’re talking about rude people.
From the moment you call them ‘exploiters’, you acknowledge it as a bannable offense, because that’s how Arenanet views it.
So are you saying we should let people continue to do this and earn free rewards? Why do you not want people to report this as a bug that needs fixing?

Can you even prove that this is an issue and that someone is actually abusing this? It makes no sense. A stupid excuse to demonize a group of roleplayers for just standing there is what this is about. They should be abhored for their poor behavior, not for roleplaying there.
You don’t need to prove intent if the OP specifically mentioned to them the effect they were having on the event and they flat out refused to either help or leave. Clearly they were aware there was a problem and had no interest in doing anything about it.
Whether or not they had any impact on the event is irrelevant to this exploit talk. It doesn’t mean that they’re getting bronze medals nor does it prove that they are just standing there for bronze with a roleplaying façade (which would be idiotic and more energy-consuming than tagging a couple monsters to earn a gold reward in the first place). And OP never really made it clear if he mentioned that. You are assuming too many things there, making abstractions over abstractions, this is nothing concrete.

There’s a difference between randomly getting a reward for being close to a dynamic event, and randomly getting rewards and staying near that event so it keeps happening.
Unless you can prove the intent of exploiting, you can’t crack down on anyone. Exploiting is, by definition, something that occurs by intent.
People who bought a thousand karma weapons for 20 karma had the obvious intent to abuse the game. People who are simply there chatting with friends are not exploiting anything.
They are possibly getting karma from those events as well. A lot of events will give you karma (bronze reward) if you just happen to be passing by one as it is ending. If that’s the case, they could possibly be exploiting the system by essentially camping a DE spawn point.

I would like to see the chat logs if possible. It may really depend on how you decided to approach them. Depending on your approach, it really would have been better not to try to roleplay and be blunt about it. They could have been jerks as well, I’m not cutting that possibility out.
And in all honesty, they’re not forced to join you in the event.

Gold sellers now including 1 copper in their mail so you can't delete it...
Posted by: Eochaidh.4106
I ask this not because it has happened to my knowledge but because I sent someone 1 gold instead of 1 silver a while back tho they were nice enough to send it back, I realize mistakes happen.
So what happens if a gold seller messes up and sends 1 gold instead of 1 copper can we keep that too?
Free gold. :P
There are full loot hardcore PvP games around if you wish. Guild Wars 2 is never going to be like that.
Khilbron’s set has those stats if I recall correctly, so you may want to buy the remaining pieces from TP. It may be a bit expensive though.
If something underwhelming like Skyrim can get GOTY, I don’t see how this couldn’t.
I really would rather see them spend time and money on actual content for the game.
@lacrimstein
Well, GW2 may have innovated on several aspects, but it’s still a themepark game. The focus is very different. Essentially we still need something to fill in between the limited available content. We may get something to compensate for the faults that you feel in the future, we really have to rely on updates and expansions for everything.

Is the purpose of this thread netting cash through advertisements? If you want to start a discussion, do it properly please. I have reported this thread, I am not here to see stupid ads.
Also, MMORPGs turning casual? Breaking news? Where have you been in the last 10 years?
I don’t see the point. It’s just a number, it would change nothing. It’s completely meaningless. There wouldn’t be any more of an endgame than what we already have. I think it is fine as it is. Were it for me we wouldn’t even have levels in this game.
Buy gold on exchange? I see people mention this a lot, but do you even realize how expensive and impractical that is?
There is no problem with taking a break. Come back once you think the game is polished. They don’t expect everyone to stick around forever, it’s not a subscription game.
As if this game doesn’t already have enough terrible clipping issues with armor.
Don’t wear the capes/cloaks then.
When it coems to cosmetic stuff I wish they could change the way human males hold greatswords :P Current stance is so weird.
It varies with profession.
I can understand no to race change, but appearance/name change can’t be much of an issue. It’s likely the most requested feature.
It’s something I’ve noticed and tried to spread for a while, but people don’t listen. Your average MMORPG is an almost immoral behavioral trap. And when people come here asking for even more of that, you can clearly see how successfully conditioned they have been, it is quite sad. It is not fun, it is an illusion of fun that consumes a lot of time, money, and possibly more.
Considering the fact spammers advertise MORE expensive than the gem store, OP’s point fails. Whomever buys from the spammers is short selling himself and risking his account being stolen or banned. Stupid is the correct word. Doubly stupid even.
lolwut. From what I’ve seen in chat the general gold seller rate is five times better than the one provided by Arenanet.
I completed it a few days ago. The toughest part will be getting all the WvWvW maps complete
Fortunately my server is winning and I’m almost done with those. :p
It’s happened to me once. No clue why it got like that. It was literally like an isometric game.
I’ve already seen a LOT of people with it. They’re the ones with a star by their name when you mouse over them.
Thank you, Mike, it is very good to hear that you are taking it seriously. And I am glad that you all are investing so much into this. Bots are a terrible plague to have in any game, we can’t let them get out of control.
There isn’t much of an alternative in terms of heavy armor, unless you want to leave your groin unprotected.
I love jumping puzzles. Either way, you’re not forced to seek the vistas.
I generally didn’t like how the personal story turned out to be, it’s completely different from the manifesto. Your decisions only affect you in a single chapter, and there are barely any lasting effects (aside of some NPC comments in the home instance which make little difference on the actual game). Basically it feels like playing completely independent chapters that have nothing to do with each other. They are not connected, most of your decisions in the beginning will change nothing in the end and won’t have any lasting impact.
The only decision that may have some impact is your order choice as you get access to the armor, and that’s it. Your order choice doesn’t affect the other chapters, doesn’t affect the story, doesn’t affect the dialogue. And your power to change anything feels even weaker after Trahearne is thrown into the formula. It’s basically a “what do you want to do next chapter?” question. Sure you get a very unique combination on the personal story menu, but then, it is meaningless. You get some impact on your home instance, but then, most people don’t ecer visit their home instances. Some probably don’t even know there is one, it’s not very relevant.
I think we have enough. How many did you expect?

I don’t know… It really bugs me that the HoM pet skins are included as separate pets in my pet tab, making me feel like I am somehow incomplete as a Ranger without them. But that’s just my OCD tendencies, not really an argument for anything.
Personally, I give akittenif the player next to me got her tabby from playing GW1, or from using the gem store. I don’t connect any sort of pride to my HoM stuff. I just got what I could because I liked the items. shrug
The HoM pets are seperate pets… They even have their own unique skills.
That is just false. Their “unique” skill is the same as another pet of the same category, and their stats are even inferior in comparison to the pet they’re cloned from. They’re not even worth using in terms of efficient play.
Edit: I just checked the wiki, and they might have fixed the stats issue.
(edited by Eochaidh.4106)
Perhaps it’s time people stopped blaming everything but themselves for the choices they make in this game.
This. Jesus Christ.
And I did notice your remark, OP. It’s just something I’ve been seeing too much in these forums.
I am quite sure it refers to the 4 base stats.

But if they want to make extra $$$ would they not do it for that?
They might as well sell event exp boosters exotics and whatnot. Doesn’t mean it’ll be done.
Aren’t these bots hurting the economy the longer they stay in the game without being banned?
Yes. Ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away.
IMO, there have been several soft exploits in the game that ANet has been fixing over time – ways to abuse the game and get easy money, just not as grossly as the exploits that have resulted in bans, and I think they’ve eased up on the ban hammer.
So, outside of those who did it as a coordinated effort, I seriously doubt many players who have 100g got there cleanly.
Unfortunately it seems to be the case. The hysterical reactions of some completely unrelated people to certain more than legitimate bans didn’t help either. It seems that their policy now is not to ban anyone. A lot of people ended up getting away with undeserved rewards.

@Bane
They would be backstabbing a LOT of people if they did that, many of whom bought all of the campaigns and the expansion to unlock HoM before launch. Arenanet even made a special deal of Prophecies+EoTN using HoM for enticing people to buy it, it would be plain ridiculous if they simply decided to sell HoM stuff at the store. Again, you can already buy those items by buying a campaign and EoTN and playing GW.
20g is the price of T3 cultural armors, they’re not even exotic. Most exotics are a tenth of that.
It’s hilarious that people make threads complaining about Arenanet keeping them from abusing the game. And they actually think they have a point.
@Hellkaiser
Well, it’s all talk until some bannings actually happen. This has been around for weeks, and they’re still roaming free.
Any evidence to your statement? I haven’t yet seen a single bot in the game. (Lvl 80)
You probably just couldn’t identify them. They’re everywhere.
I heard someone mention a 45 reward on map chat. You should file a bug report.

No. It’s meant for people who played GW. You can still go back and play it if you want the black moa.
@Twaddle
I wouldn’t be surprised, but it’s probably not a very common occurrence still.
That’s 450 dollars.
Not really. Watch the market trends and exchange rates. Buy cheap, sell for more.
That’s just not realistic given that there is a ~35% disparity between buying and selling gems. There is no room for profiting over that.
Yes, it’s a new item apparently. I don’t find it to be an issue though, it’s probably intentional.
