I did find that many CC skills have quite long cooldowns and were carefully placed among weapons not to have them repeat often. The most insane of them is probably the moa morph, but I really didn’t run into many situations in which people completely disabled me for long. Unless of course, at moments in which you run into an angry crowd in which case there is little to do. But then, I haven’t played engineer much either, and they seem to excel at knocking everyone down, so I am not very sure of how intense it can get.

It was advertised that this game would not have those things – and that those 2 items hurt MMO’s in Anets opinion. It was all over the web, in their MMO manifesto video. Dev chats and interviews.

It was everywhere. It is baffling that people come to whine exactly about that. The game is aimed at those who want something new, not more of the same. It’s not our fault that some people don’t read about the game they’re buying or simply don’t know what they want.

Eochaidh.4106

I agree. There are a ton of traits and skills that really make little difference. They tried to make a lot of options for individual likes and dislikes but in reality people just learn what is a “good” skill and what is not. people gravitate towards useful skills. This eliminates personal individuality.

It takes too much thought and effort to create skills that are truely unique and at the same time not have one be better than the other.

It is not ANet’s fault that everyone want to be the glass cannon berserker pow/per/critdmg guy. They don’t use the variety given because that’s the only way they know how to play.

The one thing I do not like is the fact that some skills are copied in multiple proffesions.. Ie… removing 3 debuffs ect.

Condition removal is essential in every profession, especially if you are going PvP.

I thought ANEt were visionary. The skills really show a lack of creativity.

If you are going to have skills which basically do nothing “visually” they are usually seen as boring. You should get a visual aura around you or something. Or make using non-active skills some sort of spec line.

“Flashy” skills have nothing to do with creativity.

My #1 problem with GW2 is the way they did skills. The game is amazing but the skills are pretty dull. I mean really you can play any class and half of the skills will not be purchased or probably used. Thats how bad and indifferent they are.

I think SOME skills may indeed be dull, but in general they are okay. We could have more skills for more strategies to be possible in my opinion.

You should have warriors that if choosing to spec for boons and heals should have to heavily invest to get that play style. For thiefs you shouldn’t basically be stuck with “steal” build or “condition”. There should be many more options with very specific paths.

It really is harder to make a support thief, but venom support thieves are VERY useful in WvW and tournaments and no one uses them. This is not an issue of lacking option, it’s an issue of no one even wanting to use anything different.

The way the skills are make every class very Vanilla.

They should have designed it so that you were constantly unlocking or working to unlock higher lvl skills EVEN AT 80.

I did like GW’s skill system, but that was only possible because there were so many skills.

Just a few from the Elementalist:

Lava Tomb: Create a lava font when downed (once every 30 seconds) – SOOO GOOD! Just what we wanted.

Not the best one in the world, but it’s an adept trait, it’s not supposed to be the best on in the tree. Helps you bring whoever killed you down, and can be quite useful in WvW if you get downed near a lot of enemies.

Burning Fire: Cleansing Flame, Signet of Fire, Conjure Flame, and Conjure Fiery Greatsword inflict 3 seconds of burning – EXCEPT THEY ALREADY CAUSE BURNING ON ACTIVATION.

And how is more burn bad? If you focus on condition damage, those can be very useful.

Vital Striking: Deal 10% more damage while health is above 90% – How long are you going to stay at >90% health?

Uh, quite a long time depending on the situation. It’s quite a nice boost, the condition for its activation is very fair. This is far from useless.

There are so many more. So many that discourage attunement dancing. Fail traits for eles. I could go on and on.

Right, ones that bring in a strategy that you don’t use. Might not be useful for you, but they can be handy for those who use different strategies.

That’s why he’s suggesting that it be changed to X total kills of invaders or Champions, so you could (slowly) work at it in PvE too.

I can’t see anything wrong with it.

Because it is not supposed to be a PvE-only achievement. You should be able to manage all parts of the game in order to earn more global achievements such as monthly completion and world completion.

Your argument is flawed. If you were required to manage all parts of the game for a monthly achievement then you would also have to craft things or succeed in sPvP. Also, it is possible currently to complete all of the monthly achievements in WvW so why not make it possible to complete them all in PvE as well?

Possible to complete it solely in WvW? In what world?

Crafting IS implicitly a part of the achievement because you need to salvage a LOT to earn it. And sPvP is not there simply because we’d have even more threads complaining. I don’t even know why I have to back this up, the mere fact that WvW was added to this achievement is a huge indicator of this. Just like you have to get into PvP if you want to max HoM in GW, you need to do it here for such big and global achievements.

Yes, but I’ve heard people who are enthusiasts of WvW complain about people spending too much time in the starter zones or buying gear in the WvW maps costing their team the possible win as the rest of the team can’t compensate for their lack of activity. They are suggesting that such players be kicked from the map after x mins of not fighting.

The achievement is for killing people, not standing in the initial area doing nothing. :P There is no prejudice against new players or anyone else so long as they try to be productive.

To require WvW kills for the monthly achievements & clearing all 4 WvW maps to get 100% map completion & the gifts of exploration needed to craft legendary weapons, you are forcing PvErs & RPers to attempt WvW but not really contribute much to the map & be a hindrance to your team.

Not really, no one is being forced to be a hindrance. The idea is to take people out of their comfort zone and have them try something new. And in the end they can *GASP*like it.

I understand that in GW1 you had to map Jade Quarry & Fort Aspenwood to get 100% map completion, but it was much simpler to map those areas & still fight (especially since the number of people allowed in at one time was much more limited than it is in WvW).

Fighting and killing in WvW is ridiculously easy. Find a group and join them. You’ll have kills in a few minutes. It’s no rocket science.

They’ve already said that you’re supposed to report as “spamming” for the desired result. Spread the word.

Then this is why it should have it own easily identified entry for reporting gold sellers and levelers. I and i am sure countless others have been reporting them as scammers.

Scammers better fits actual players trying to scam you out of something like item trades and what have you and spammers better fits people who spam chat/mail. Both of which are not really that urgent, however gold sellers and levelers are should be much higher priority so a dedicated report option for them only would help both players and anet, and allowing anet to take care of them much quicker since they won’t have to check it to see if they are just a normal scammer/spammer or indeed someone selling gold or leveling.

They get proper priority under spamming, because that’s where the team expect the reports to come. It really is the most intuitive option too, because gold spam is still spam. We should report things for what they are, not for what we believe to have priority.

While the boss lowers his chin casting slowy 180-turn firebreath ,
Hide behind the trees-rocks (the trees die)
Or players must kill the adds fast ,
Some of them equip the mobs skin as shields , and stand in frond of the tree-players to protect them , likeusing Gear shield and abosrve all the range attacks aiming at ur friend ?

Nah …. too much hassle

Actually, dopamine production in my brain is pretty much the motivation for everything I do in life.

Gear progression is often what makes me stop playing an MMO, while I will dump 1000 hours into a shooter with zero progression because it’s a) fun and b) I’m always competitive, never behind the curve due to there being no curve.

That’s the best part of GW2. It realizes normal MMO progression iskitten and instead goes for something more akin to a shooter, MOBA, or RTS which people play for YEARS with zero progression.

People played Starcraft for over a decade with no new content, no progression, nothing.

People still play CS 1.6 even though 2 new CS games have been released since.

Gear progression systems kill games, good games without them last for decades.

in Black Lion Trading Co

I think this was actually initiated by some crafters and perpetuated by people on the camp who want to get rid of items quickly. They may not be doing it at a loss because they may be freeing slots for valuable loots without the expense of visiting a merchant.

Essentially, everything is cheap because of how crafting is designed and how people choose to make use of it. The fact that they made crafting reward exp doesn’t help either. People don’t value crafted goods, but the act of crafting itself.

Now there is just too many of those items around, and no one willing to buy even at floor price.

Ranged players hold a position, melee take an area by suprise.

Of course, if you’re fighting a fort of enemies, don’t bother, you’ll be shot down before you can say “Savage Leap.” Heh. But that’s why you have two weapon options, my dear WvWvW’ers.

I think that the whole problem is that an organized melee attack is a lot harder to pull off because a lot more discipline is necessary. But it can be very efficient if there isn’t much artillery invilved. The thing is that it really is much easier to jump into a defending position with a bow.

I just wanted to throw in my two cents that Melee if at a severe dis-advantage in all fights. Would this be true in real life? YES. However, this is a game. People play fantasy games to, among other things, swing swords and use shields.

I’m not sure what the solution to this is, but it certainly feels broken to me.

(edit for spelling)

There is no solution, defending a point at range will always be advantageous. It’s not easy to break through archers/artillery to attack a position at melee. Range is more strategically efficient, melee is not. Everyone can bring a ranged weapon or use artillery either way. Melee is useful for combat on the field, and melee generally does more damage than range.

So, your solution to melee being ineffective in these situations is: “Go ranged!”???

I guess I can understand that, I have two weapon sets for a reason. Just feels kinda lame to roll a melee class just to have to go ranged anyway. Plus, my guardian ranged skills are super limited and suck. I guess I could run around and play support.

I am a warrior Longbow/Greatsword. I normally use longbow to defend from the walls and once the attack loses organization I go down and engage on melee. I also use it a lot while on the field. I am actually more melee-oriented than range. You can get more melee action in WvW if you look in the right places. You really can’t expect to jump into a raging army all by yourself and not get killed in the process, caution and reason is necessary in all situations before hack n’ slash. :p

Melee is also very useful when attacking if you are numerous enough to overcome archers. And you can speed up the process of capturing the hold by engaging the archers on melee, since they will no longer have an advantage. Melee is also a lot more helpful at destroying gates than range (although siege weaponry really is the best option here).

Melee, working as intended, but not working IMO.

This is why modern military forces don’t rush in with swords anymore lol. It is suicide.

In truth swords were never that popular of a warfare weapon, they really are just overplayed and overrepresented for various reasons (I guess that the fact they’re cross-shaped didn’t help either). Pole weapons were cheaper to make, easier to use, safer and more to the point. You could raise a levy and give them some cheap spears and still get some damage done. Swords were more of a nobility weapon, more expensive, needed training, and even if nobility made up a huge portion in medieval armies, they still had plenty of other preferred weapon choices for warfare, especially in the late Middle Ages/Renaissance.

I don’t have issues with queues. I have never been placed in a queue when I try to get into WvW. But my server sucks. We never win, and we never have the things I need to get 100% World Completion. If we are placed against an opponent that’s superior than us on Friday, that means I’ll have to wait another week to be able to finish…

I love when idiots bring up real life to compare to a game in fantasy setting….

You mean to say that the cost of the exotics on the TP are the same as the costs of the materials needed to make those exotics? Yes, obviously the TP very quickly balanced itself to stop obvious profits being made that way.

Okay, so what is the point of getting so much money into it if you are not going to get any of that back?

If you’re in a small guild though, and can share materials, or don’t mind farming them yourself, then yes. You can make your own stuff without spending gold, or sell the stuff you make for 100% profit.

That is absolutely false. In almost every time that you craft, you lose gold, except maybe with a few limited exotics. This is due to the fact that most crafted goods are cheaper or cost the same as the sum of primary material prices. The idea that you are getting 100% profit from crafting is fallacious, because you could just sell the materials at the trading post and buy the desired equipment without any extra costs and without requiring any crafting skills. The profit was made when you gathered, not when you crafted, and gathering requires no skills.

Getting the crafting professions for the items you use, there really isn’t any downside to having it, especially when it then comes to crafting the pieces needed for mystic forge recipes.

Yes, there is an obvious dowbside to having it, which is 10-15 wasted gold. You can buy those pieces for the mystic forge from the TP as well.

Unless you seek to obtain legendary weapons in the long run (in which case be ready for a LONG investment of time). At least right now, that seems to be a sad fact. I am a 400 Armorsmith/390 Jewelmaker and I regret that.

It really is flabbergasting that people are investing crazy amounts of gold into this. It is not worth it. Most people are doing it for the experience, I guess, but experience is already easy to get through other means.

So what if you can craft an exotic 80 armor? You can buy one at cost price without having any crafting skill as well if you are a little patient (and that really is a patience of minutes, not days. Otherwise you can still pay some low extra silver, it doesn’t change much). Get the mats, sell them, buy the armor, it’s the same. In truth, most people who invest into crafting really will have no chance to get exotic armor right away when they get to level 80. While people who don’t craft will have tons of extra gold that they earned from selling mats to buy a full set at that point.

And I speak that from personal experience. Get to anyone who sells their mats, an you’ll se they’re in a pretty stable situation at any level, while people who craft are generally struggling to buy anything that they should be able to at the point they are in the game.

And then there is the experience factor. Some people (apparently more than what we can imagine) think it is worth throwing 4g into the market to get two levels. Hence the insane cost of materials. That’s their option really, but when the act of crafting itself is more rewarding for them than the crafted goods they create, we get the whole anomalous mess the trading post is going through right now.

That, of course, may not be the case for all crafting disciplines. Cooking is incredibly different. But I can’t really see it getting much different. People may tell me all they want that it is very worth it, I get that a lot here, but I don’t see it in the game. Perhaps it is some sort of cognitive denial for having invested so much into something not worth it, or perhaps they truly know some secret recipe to get extra money through crafting. Go figure.

At level 400 you can craft level 80 exotics… so yes, if you can gather enough materials and have a bit of spare gold, it is massively worth it in the long run.

Legendary weapons are not only Aesthetics. They are stronger than exotic weapons.

the source? legendary = exotic in terms of stats i think.

Legendary are a different tier of weapons, so until we see one there really is no way to know if they have better stats than exotic or not. If they don’t have, then they are quite the exception, because for everything else in the game, better tier=better stats.

Whats the point of farming anyways everything is streamlined to a balance anyways whether you play 1 hour or 100 hours you will still be the same in Spvp. No matter how much gear you have you cant out dps the CUE times for WvW so whats the point.

Because crafting requires significantly more crafting components than you can collect ‘naturally’ through normal gameplay, and if you outlevel a certain level tier it’s going to be a pain to collect components from that tier later.

The game very much wants you to grind.

I have to agree that crafting could use an overhaul. It’s probably the most traditional and uninspired area of this game. The fact that they made it as accessible as possible, along with exp rewards for crafting, doesn’t help either. There is no economical value for crafting if everyone does it. Equipment has no value now and people just want to craft for leveling and sell whatever they crafted quick to get more mats. There is a lot more profit to be made by selling all mats you find than investing in crafting.

I mean, I’ve seen some level 50 people with flabbergasting 10 gold for not jumping into the crafting sinking ship.

I don’t agree. There are certain combinations on gear that if they existed every single person would use it

Oh, you mean berserker?

Haha, my thought exactly. I’m willing to bet 80% of players use or intend to use berserker. I mean, the market is pretty clear on that. Vial of powerful blood (for 80 exotic berserker items) costs 20 times as much as all of the other t6 items.
