You lose any bag slots you bought for that character though. I can’t live with the base number, I use about that many for things like alternate weapons, food, cosmetic, fluff, daily cooldown, harvesting tools etc.

It’s alright when you get hit by a stun that you could have avoided or whatever, and you didn’t bring stunbreaker or stability so your punishment is 2-3 seconds of disable.

BUT, imho it is actually unacceptable when you aggro 2-3 of the same mob, sometimes unavoidable because they are placed in close proximity. What happens is the AI of the monster will wait until the exact milisecond that the first stun wears off (if their stun has a cast time they will even precast it to time it perfectly) and stun you again for the same timer, and possibly a third or fourth time depending on how many are around you, and there’s no possible way to avoid it for those consecutive times.

More that once I’ve been chain stunned for longer than 10 seconds and imho that’s the kind of situation that just makes you want to turn off the game.

Everyone expected Vermignus, the giant fire worm in Ember Bay to be a new world boss as we saw it in the trailer.

They decided to let a golem fight against it.

Not to mention the hotrible scaling problems for the pre. 20 people in the area and it’s scaled to that number, but only two are doing the pre which means a long, tedious process.

GW2 has better dodging mechanics than pretty much every other game, just because you’re invulnerable for the whole duration. It drives me crazy in other games when I dodge an attack but still take damage (Monster Hunter and its competitors are awful with this).

Monster Hunter dodging works fine. It’s juat we get 250, 500, 750 milisecond evades in GW2 which is huge compared to MH which is 120ms or 250ms if you have Evade up skill iirc. And in that game the entire monster apendage (like a massive tail 6 times the width of you character for example) becomes the hitbox that you have to evade, which means it’s impossible to dodge some attacks or just maybe barely if you time it perfectly. There are no “red circles”, cones or lines to tell you to dodge, you need to mentally catalogue what the tell is for each attack, and each tell is different. It’s a much more organic and reflexive combat experience rather than this games reactionary one.

As a person who doesn’t own a legendary backpack, I totally agree with you. The first thing that went through my mind when I equiped those wings was “well I’m glad I didn’t grind out Ad-Infinitum because this looks better”.

I’ve always loved the pvp wings and been jealous, but these wings are on almost on par in terms of looks.

Has buying BL Chest Keys ever been worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Well to play devils advocate, I have personally gotten both a perma hair contract (sold for 2800g and made a legendary) and a perma bank access contract (kept). I am aware of how incredibly lucky I got, and I’m in no way encouraging people to buy keys based on my anecdotal success. I am simply posting this to provide a counter argument that it actually can rarely pay off.

The hair contract I got after spending probably about the same as the OP on keys alone over the years. Sold for 2800g iirc.

The bank access… I got from the first key that came out of a “daily chest of black lion goods” and I didn’t even know you could get keys from that login reward. Super duper wierd luck-out.

So the way to look at it is that they are just a form of gambling like every other. You can either incredibly low chance of hit the jackpot, or its money wasted. The non jackpot items are fluff, it’s supposed to be a hit-or-miss reward system. Items like boosters, halloween bag, consumable access items are a miss. Sometimes you win a skin or something worth ~50-100g, thats a small win like you bought a $10 ticket and won $50, but its still not the jackpot.

Do you ever buy a lottery ticket in real life and expect to win big? Nope. If you bought 20 tickets at once do you expect to win big? Nope. Use the same application of reasoning when gambling in the game.

Even with a i7 6700k overclocked to 4400ghz and 2x SLI GTX 1080 GPU

Playing on max settings at 1440p resolution I still rarely get above 60fps, only in low pop open world areas or staring at a wall in LA. Mostly it’s 20-60fps.

If I drop the resolution to 1080p and graphical settings to mid range, I can reliably maintain 60+ FPS but that’s not the point. The game just has a sucks optimised graphics engine. Runs practically the same on high end modern day machine as my 4 year old one with roughly 1/16th the power)

They’ve tried to give it identity from the other 1200 weapons by giving it no AoE damage but it doesn’t even have decent single target because it’s a 1200 weapon and so pays the range tax, so that leaves it underwhelming from all angles. Fierce Shot and Net Shot in particular are just uninspired, boring skills.

I want to pitch in and leave my feedback here.

That I first read about these changes, and did in-fact recieve a “Trick-or-Treat Bag” as my of my items from the free chest today, actively discouraged me from purchasing keys with my gems.

Although I did buy gems today, and will likely to continue to do so for some time, it will likely not be for the purpose of Keys any more.

Including an item that is so arbitrarily easily acquired, to the point that you can actually easily farm 250 of them in the span of 40 minutes with little effort and not even much reward is quite an astonishingly bad idea in my view.

Just come to grips with it. If you don’t like raids you won’t get the legendary armor.

Like me. I got a bit depressed today when I saw it. I considered making a complain thread, nah. I considered quitting, nah. Finally I thought to myself, well I got ascended armor, I guess that’s enough and I am sure I might get bored of the legend skin after a long time. The stat changing isn’t that big deal to me since berserker meta is all I really play.

I mean really we could put forth a tremendous amountof effort and joina raid schedule guild group and learn all the fights and that, even though we dislike the cut-throat environment. But we choose not to, so we have to accept it.

Movement speed and rifle mutually exclusive

in Warrior

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

I really want to play sometimes with Rifle in PvE. But if you take the Rifle boosting trait, you lose movement speed with melee weapon, which can be achieved on swap. There doesn’t seem to be any other viable method to move fast, especially if you want a GS on swap.

I can’t stand playing slow characters, so it would seem I’m straight out of luck. I know you can say “yes well you are only 20% slower than a person with the trait!” But when I am walking next to a player who has movement speed it is really noticeable, they are way over onto the horizon while I stumble behind, it really makes you frustrated.

Using Travelers Runes seems like a terrible compromise, as the entire point of a rifle is to hit your hardest with KS/GF.

I could use maybe X/Warhorn, but then I need boon duration and constant spam on swap kinda thing, meh.

Anyways, just a minor complaint. I feel like the movement speed trait should not be located in a tier with a weapon enhancing traits because that is not a fair choice. Imagine if Forceful Greatsword was on that tier.

The major reason being that I have invested so much time in this game that if I leave it for another game , then all my invested time is lost.

Huh? In that game everything related to character power is transient and you basically lose it all when they release a patch. The only permanent rewards are AP, mounts and battle pets.

I really don’t find it to be too much effort to right click and salvage all. You do need the copper o-matic though.

If you’re having trouble with the crappy runes and can’t afford a vendor contract or tarktun vendor, then consider investing in a portable Mystic forge node. They are pretty cheap, only like 50g from memory. They gobble up all those worthless runes just fine.

Inventory management is a dynamic of the game. It’s a small, but not insignificant part of the economy through raw gold generation. TP doesn’t generate gold, buying gold with gems doesn’t either contrary to popular belief, vendoring does.

Halloween Rewards "Candy Corn Gobbler"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Well… I can tell you I oversaw a commander in EotM last week who, when asked by a player what world rank he was, he told us something over 7100. He explained he always had perma exp buff and linked the gobbler, stating it’s a must-buy purchase because it basically makes you money.

I had never seen the item before, and neither had the others. He said it hasn’t been a halloween reward for two years and maybe they’ll bring it back this year. Since witnessing that conversation and learning of the items existance and use, my gut feeling tells me they haven’t brought it back because it trivialises some boosters (like Exp boosters) which means Anet will sell less of those and also Black Lion keys which give boosters. That’s just my guess though.

0 × 802 still equals 0.

0.001% x 802% = 0.802% – Math is probably wrong, but you get the idea it’s still less than 1% drop rate.

There used to be magic find gear stats for armor and weapons but when everyone invested into those stats near game launch and realised it actually did nothing, lots of complaints arose and they scrapped MF gear.

Would probably be more like 0.00802%

But yeah I always liken it to the lottery. Just because you buy 8 tickets instead of one doesn’t mean you have a significantly increased chance of winning. It’s still like one in a few million.

Process starts, I can hear HoT Music playing (character select screen) but the game doesn’t seem to load.

When I ctrl alt Del and start task manager, I can’t interact / click on it because there is an invisible game client on my monitor preventing me from clicking. I have tried navigating the menu with keyboard Tab, Enter and end process, but it does not work. I have to restart the system at this point.

This issue is not always present, the game usually does start after a delay. This has happened to me about 3 times in the last 20-30 or so logins. I never had this issue before I upgraded to my new system. Any ideas?

So just found out that both of the class i wanted to tryout are either nerf to the ground or isn’t even viable in arenas… ( ele, thief )

i dont own hot, i want to give this game a few weeks before buying tbh..

A little background,

im a melee type guy, i love getting in your face and bashing it to death. Im a hardcore pvp’er i only do pve for fun or with guild mates

- Burst cannon
- High mobility
- Fast combo rotation ( like a rogue in WoW )
- decent survivability
- dont suck in duels? ( how warriors in WoW can’t win duels )

gw2 is downloading atm, so i cant research myself.. and i know play what i like.. but im a casual player.. so i wont be putting much time until i get hook into gw2.

Ty!

You just basically described a thief. There isn’t Dueling in this game, although in certain PvP situations you may fight 1v1, which thief can be built pretty well for. Look up Dagger + Pistol thief.

Please ignore forum complaints, everyone complains about their class, it’s meaningless.

You will be countered by classes which just have skills that counter you, unless you outskill them basically. Just like pretty much any decent MMO it’s a rock/paper/scissors scenario. Good luck!

This is nonsense.

There are people with over 2000 hours that have killed every mobs, never seen a precursor.

There are people who started last week and found one on a mob they only killed for their daily.

The level of luck involved is so absurd that any advice “like killing them for increased precursor drops!” Is just flat out bad advice.

Like do you tell your friend if you buy 5 lottery tickets you have a good chance of winning? no you are still hundred times more likely to be struck by lightning on a sunny day. If you buy a lottery ticket expecting to win you are a moron.

Is it worth buying a Legend cash->gems->gold?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

I think you are robbing yourself of the reward if you buy it outright.

You can usually save about 25 – 35% of the cost , which is usually at least 1000g (or $100) if you instead buy or craft the prcursor yourself (depending on which one it is) and then use your own game resources, namely ~480 Spirit Shards, Gift of Battle + Exploration and ~ 480-580 Obsidian Shards to craft it yourself. Most of the other materials must be bought from the TP though, farming them isn’t feasible in an ordinate amount of time, it is set up like that on purpose to keep the economy flowing..

Gift of Battle is 8-10 hours in WvW, I have done it mostly on a sunday afternoon, it can be quite fun and you can get lots of loot, ranks and marks of battle for cheaper ascended trinkets on the way.

Obsidian Shards and to a lesser extent spirit shards are not difficult to farm, but can be a little tedious as your best option is to run some SW event maps and chest trains.

Most people will have a gift of exploration sitting in their bank (for the first two legendaries at least) but after that it can either be fun or a nightmare depending on how you feel about exploring the world on another character.

enjoy the game mentality in dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

I have the same mentality as you OP. But if you want to work on any legendaries you’re going to have to bite the bullet and form or join a group to farm 500 tokens.

My experience was this: first read the wikipedia article on explorable modes, specifically each path so you are at least familiar in theory with the encounters or runs.

Make note of which path is easiest in that dungeon and look to run that one first. Most of the time it is P1 but there are some exceptions. You want to be familiar with the difficult paths and try to avoid doing it in a pug.

Open your group finder. Don’t join groups looking for experienced players. A group such as “CoE P1” is fair game. Alternatively you can make your own listing like that.

A lot of the encounters the group will just stack in a corner to LoS mobs so they stack up on you and you burn them down pressing F to revive if someone dies. Simple.

Some encounters have very specific mechanics and you will needs at least 3-4 group members who know what they’re doing (it sucks to be the clueless one).

You should run a DPS build on your gear or you will be letting the group down. Wearing Knights for example (the boosted character armor) will make you do pretty much half the DPS of a berserker. The longer a boss lives, the more damage it will dole out and the higher the chance of it wiping your group. Quick kills are your freind. Learn to dodge and use defensive skills.

Be polite friendly, and don’t be afraid to apologise if you do something wrong eg. “Sorry, forgot about that” “Sorry, first time here” 99/100 times you will get “NP” as a response. Establishing a friendly atmosphere with greetings, polite conversation or even a bit of brown nosing eg. “I really like your armor dyes playerx” can go a long way. Most people are just in there to get something and bail so you won’t see much beyond “hi” usually but don’t take it personally.

Finally two warnings:

Twilight Arbor Aetherblade path is not really puggable. Coordination is needed in that place.

Arah is painful unless everyone knows the way, knows what they are doing, knows how to run past trash and are patient. Even P1 can be a nightmare, but I have pugged every path so it is doable. If you are an squishy Elementalist, well may god have mercy on your soul as you try to run through consecutive corridors full of ranged undead monsters that one shot you.

Cooldowns Review

Conjured weapons from the Elementalist need a review.

Lightning Hammer and Flame Axe in particular seem to have no viable use in the game. The Frostbow, and Earthshield have very niche uses, but could use a review aswell. Fiery Greatsword is only used as a movement enhancement, and while I do find it enjoyable and effective for that purpose, it seems kind of strange that such a powerfully themed weapon doesn’t have better offensive power than just playing normally with Overloads, Lightning Whip and/or Lava Font.

Scepter, despite the recent buffs is still lacking. If the air 2 Lightning Strike had a small AoE around your target I think it might be fixed. The main sufferage of the weapon set at least in PvE is the lack of cleave in air attunement because that is the element you will be camping as Scepter builds are generally Fresh Air based.

Raids and low sale in 2016Q2

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Raids are the only thing that’s keeping the difficulty-seeking player base interested and logging into GW2 consistently. It may not be an enormous subset of the playerbase, but it’s a significantly vocal and valuable subset. It also gives average-skill players something to work toward in a PvE sense so that there feels like real end-game content.

I hope for me and other people like me that ANet continues developing raids well into future expansions and beyond.

P.S. Assuming that raids are somehow responsible for low revenue numbers is unfounded and ridiculous.

Ya right, except you won’t let average player into your group because we haven’t already done raid 100 times. Public groups are out of the question for someone wanting to start raids.

Join a guild raid? Most already have their “core raid team” maybe sometimes they might run a “pitty party” and kill 1 boss with some member who aren’t in the inner circle for charity work, but nothing serious.

This exclusivity is why raids are bad. The average player rarely gets opportunity to experience them because the community ends up artificially blocking them through no fault of their own (they just want easy runs) and it ends up discouraging the average player to the point where they give up trying.

Create your own raid groups like all of those in established groups already did. Players are well within their rights to have restrictions on their own groups that they created. Just like with the speed run groups for dungeons, if you don’t like their requirements then just create your own group.

The vast majority of players are not comfortable with being leaders. Especially when they don’t even have experience for the content they are leading yet.

I never even came remotely close to saying you don’t have the right to restrict your groups. Read the last paragraph in my post you quoted.

You post is entirely redundant.
