Uhh.. If you want map completion why don’t you just equip signet of the locust or wait 2 weeks for PoF then we will have mounts.

Warhorn 5 is actually a really good skill in combat, it does good power damage and life force generation and has a decent uptime too.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

It’s a game. like a guy playing Lara in Tomb Raider or a girl playing Link in The Legend of Zelda.

. If anyone actually gives any kind of kitten what gender your toon is, that’s their mental problem, not yours.

I happen to agree as a guy, the female characters are more aesthetically pleasing to look at, why wouldn’t I make one. Like, your brain is hardwired through millions years of evolution to like looking at females more than males (if you’re a straight male). It’s absolutely normal lol.

I know gay guys, they roll male toons for the same reason. I’m not saying you’re gay if you make a male character, you can sometimes manipulate them to look brute, toughguy or whataver you find cool. Point is, it’s a game, play it how you want to have fun.

Why are melee players punished?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

It’s probably been said but I feel the need to re-iterate… You need to stand in melee, even if you have a ranged weapon, because that’s where warriors, mesmers etc kitten all the buffs out. And if you’r standing at range you lose 25 might, quickness, alacrity, fury etc. You will do pitiful damage.

That’s even putting aside the fact that melee weapons actually do intrinsically higher dps by design.

This item is the carrot to keep the map alive, and it will stay that way. It’s not dead, I’ve managed to oneshot a successful meta every weekend (that I tried) since the last 6 months or so.

Newer players aren’t familiar with the rather convoluted LFG/map IP system. You need to turn up at least 30 minutes early by looking at the timers on the website, then open LFG and find a map IP organising lanes and join it before it fills.

While the actual probability of getting that 1/10k drop are extremely improbable to say the least (you know the old saying “gambling is a tax on the mathematically inept”) it’s still enough to trick the human psyche into participating, for the most part.

Best PvE Post PoF Opinions?

in Thief

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

To me, as much as it is disappointing, it is common sense that daredevil will be better for almost all PvE.

A single target, ramp-up weapon like the rifle just won’t be practical outside of niche scenarios or “playing for fun, not practicality”.

Anet has stated throug both design, vocally and for obvious reasons that they don’t want high burst damage range weapons, especially 1200…1500 range weapons.

Look at everything else as example, Ele staff is effective onl large hitboxes/stationary targets, both are niche. Dragonhunter longbow, hammer rev, both nerfed burst damage since they launched, now they are purely “for fun” (pve) or safety/utility. They don’t offer dps.

Ranger longbow, mesmer greatsword, Warrior/Engineer Rifle. Try to find me an example of a long ranged PvE weapon which is actually effective. Pro-tip: you can’t. Deadeye rifle will be no different, because the ramp up will by design not allow it to, unless maybe you are fighting a single target boss over a long period (niche again).

Maybe the actually spec Deadeye will offer enough compelling traits to make Sword or dagger comparable to Staff in general PvE content, but it seems doubtful.

I don’t like the female norn (?) on a raptor for launcher, I don’t see what that has to do with the expansion theme. I don’t understand why it’s purple, too.

It should be a stylised version of Balthazar, and probably red. Just my 2c anyway….

I’m a little jaded about it, I did every one of the rubble piles every day, which if done was gave us just enough time to earn both the selfless and thoughtless potions. It was a HUGE effort and the potions were something I was proud to own.

Now ofc they are meaningless because its just a cash item now.

But at the end of the day, this is just a game. Time will go forward and your achievements are ultimately meaningless anyway.

So whatever, if it made them a tonne of money then I guess you can see that as good as long as they put that into further development instead of the game dying.

Condi Tempest

Esquilax.3491

This is the main reason I don’t play condi.

Ele is about switching elements and adapting to combat situations with different tactics. Power builds can at least remain functional when doing this and thus fit the fantasy.

Condi build is a hamfisted abomination, there is no synergy between different attunements, and anything but fire is awful, thus if you need to CC, mitigate or heal, you screw yourself and feel horrible for 10 whole seconds which is basically eternity, it feels like a 10 second self stun. You would think at least Earth could do some damage with bleeds but I’m pretty sure they’d need to quadruple the amount of bleeds it provides because burning is that much stronger, its really a joke.

They would need to add at least some form of easily accessable boon stripping skills or traits to all classes. A lot of classes can’t even strip boons, let alone steal or corrupt them. Mobs with lots of HP and retal or protection and regen are a PITA if you can’t remove that.

Sorry but Anet are prioritizing correctly. A lot more development effort goes into things like legendary weapons than you’d expect. Gamebreaking: Shields hide back items.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

You clearly can’t have both visible, because it would be horrendous to look at.

You can’t have the shield hidden when stowed, because it’s silly to pull a shield out of nowhere every time combat starts, and inconsistent with game design being that weapons should be visible on your character at all times.

You can’t have the shield drawn at all times, because it would look strange with the character doing regular animations with a shield superglued to the arm.

Having the backpiece hidden seems like the lesser of three evils, since they are only cosmetic and have none of the issues listed above.

I am sure the Anet Devs have been through the process of elimination above and have come to the same conclusion. It’s not ideal, but it’s sort of the best solution available.

Esquilax.3491

This skill lists that you gain a 50% movement speed increase while using it. I am almost certain this is false. From my testing both in combat and out, it doesn’t seem to affect movement speed at all. And it doesn’t seem to benefit properly from quickness, which seems counter intuitive since quickness is part of that weapon set, proccing off of the #4 dual strike.

I might be wrong and I’m just not noticing these effects, but I decided to post here and ask if anyone else noticed this.

Also on a slightly unrelated note, I just discovered the Wiki page for Quickness: (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Quickness) Does not list Dual Strike under “Weapon Skills that grant Quickness”, so if anyone is good at editing web pages, that needs fixing.

The whole premise of this thread is wrong because the loot in this game is mostly just disguised currency. I think the OP means character build, in which case they are being kicked (?) For a bad equipment or skill setup, or dare I say… player skill?

IDK, fully functional exotic gear is cheap as chips these days and I can’t see any reason why you would have difficulty obtaining it.

Stealth guide/instruction

in Thief

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

If you switch trait lines and skills it’s super easy to maintain perma personal stealth, and makes providing group stealth a lot easier, but you get stuck with kittenty dps traits. Check the “wvw skirmishing” builds on metabattle.

It’s really diffucult to provide high group stealth solo with a meta dps build UNLESS your group is coordinated and stacks on you and uses blast finishers on your fields which is basically not going to happen in a pug.

My theory is some people are just really quick at switching trait lines and skills at the right times when stealth or dps is needed, which I personally can’t stand doing it’s a PITA and you need a solid memory / reflex action for it.

The thing is both Rev and DH had bursty long ranged attacks with the intro of HoT and elite specs via coalesce of ruin and True Shot, they were both promptly and repeatedly nerfed into the ground thanks to pvp.

So I can’t for the life of me even begin to fathom how Anet plans to implement a sniper spec which the very identity SHOULD be long range bursty attacks.

I fully expect the weapon to be underwhelming like Hammer or Bow for the respective classes.

The SW JP may have been a bit too extreme, which was kinda fun and interesting the first time I did it (spent a whole night in there), but after which I was pretty sold on the fact I never want to do it again.

The newer ones, specifically Draconis Mons and Ember bay are just right though imho. With a bit of practice and memorisation they are repeatable and challenging each time, it offers the difficult experience that an end game JP should.

Gathering tools shared slots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

I don’t think it would be totally unfair if it worked as follows:

Buying any infinite gathering tool comes with one consumable item, similar to a “bag slot expansion” that you can consume on any character of your choice.

The “Gathering slot expansion” allows you to use any infinite tool skin you have unlocked on your account. It also allows you to choose one “enrichment” that has been previously mentioned on this threads, such as Sprockets or UM.

This wouldn’t discourage sales of gathering tools, because the slots will only unlock on one character of your choice, per tool set, and it solves the annoying issues of not being able to choose the skins you find aesthetically pleasing because they don’t provide the gathering bonus.

I think this would be an amazing change and it would actually probably promote sales of more infinite gathering tools so it’s a win for Anet.

Felt like WvW to me. Blobs floating around in sync focusing targets down.

It might be easier if you try to follow around an ally and focus his target, then the rest of your team does too, but obviously with random groups that’s dependent on the competency of the random people you get teamed with. But because it’s random you should in theory win and lose roughly equal over time since you’re just as likely to get grouped with good players as the other team. At the lowest level is just boils down to another grind.

For the record I found it boring too, and don’t plan on playing it again.

Is GW2 Worth Getting Into? (2017)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Gw2 is a casual mmo so you can quit and come back without having to play catch-up. You may have to look into getting some of the Living story episodes. LS3 is very interesting so far and hopefully an expansion will be announced later this year. From the reviews and youtube review of BDO its a grind. It does not seem that way at first but eventually you get to a point and realize how much of a grind it is.

And I read you get relentlessly ganked and camped by higher level/more geared players. Yuck, I can’t believe companies still make games like that.

Pretty sure Anet would have to revamp the engine and as much as I love the game, it’s old and I don’t see that being high on the priority list for Anet.

I thought this thread was going to be about the giant Norns and Charrs in trench coats covering entire platforms and removing the ability to see your character.

I dont really have a problem with destroyed snowflakes tbh, it happens every other time and you can only get 17-18 clears max in a non-bugged public game anyway. From my experience you can probably get 17 clears even if the snowflakes are destroyed every time.

So even if you are an absolute pro working at maximum JP farm efficiency, you lose 20 presents per hour from this griefer. Down from 360 to 340, doesn’t seem that big of a deal since most people make mistakes and fall anyways.

Winter's Heart Infusion Rates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Well in order to make the infusion valuable it has to be extremely rare like that.

Personally I could quite easily farm 1000 gifts in a day, as that’s only 100 completions of the JP, which is 300 per hour if you are an average skill at it. If there are 100 other players doing that, it means one infusion added to the TP per day. I think we both know there are more than 100 people farming it, not to mention the many thousands added from casual JP’ers and other rewards.

1/100,000 or 0.001% sounds very reasonable / likely to me.

Living World 3 maps aren't immersive

in Living World

Posted by: Esquilax.3491

Esquilax.3491

Bloodstone fen, Ember bay and Bitterfrost Frontier are thematically beautiful, and lovely to look at. But they don’t have the living feeling that Living World 2 maps had.

There is no map-wide objective and very few, poorly rewarding group events, does it surprise anyone that the LFG panel for each of these maps is always empty?

Initially, with the release of Bloodstone Fen I decided to reserve my judgement and hold out to see what else is coming down the line. The clear pattern of emphasis on harvesting map currency nodes by yourself has only worsened with Bitterfrost frontier.

If you look at a map like SW or any of the HoT maps, they have multiple objectives there is an actual thought process and choice involved. Yes I can run around and open Airship Cargo or Bandit Chests but that isn’t the ONLY thing on the whole map, and they are even rewards tied to playing the story of the map, getting involved.

Contrast these to the LW3 maps, there is a clearly defined path, and that’s practically the only way to play the map, all of the game is a grind but these are particularly bad because there’s no choice in the grind. Walk there, harvest those nodes, fill in those hearts, harvest the other nodes, map complete.

I enjoy the actual story missions, but I think the world maps are a more important asset to the game. I know it’s not realistic to expect extremely high quality content on a frequent basis especially with a split dev team, but personally I would rather have one SW quality map every six months than a shallow LW3 style one every 3 months.
