^Who is now trying to get the last word in an argument? ;D
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
Uhm.
Why can’t you blame the players if the community loses its interest in LS fast?
Aren’t the players what the community is built of?
And getting the stomp achievement by “farming” or actual pvp isn’t a huge time difference.
You either spend some minutes in it and farm, or you play some matches, which probably wont cost you 1 hour.
Look, I get your complaint, I do. A bunch of folks standing around killing each other for achieves is cheap but I seriously cannot blame them. Do you see how the game itself makes people need those points for LS things/game play? Do you see the behavior here that makes no one wanna touch PvP?
I get that PvP is all about competition, so petition Anet to remove PvP Dailys/Monthlys and PvP achieves in Living Story (they aren’t about the spirit of competition) or replace them with PvP only rewards and I promise, you will only see PvPers in your arenas.
As already mentioned, you don’t need those achievements for the meta-achievement.
And why remove PvP Dailys/Monthlys? AP are something, PvP players can need, too (Skins).
Some people here try to tell me, “I complain that people don’t play pvp the way I think pvp should be”, but actually, if PvE players say that they “need” PvP Dailys/Mothlys or this Living story-Achievement, they basicly say “I want this achiement by playing the game my way”, no matter if the sense of the achievment is completly different".
I hope you see the difference.
It is like I would say, “I only play Citadel of Flame, but I want the Arah Weapons, so make Arah Weapons able to get bought for CoF-tokens”.
And how long did it take you to get enough mats for 250 dyes?
250 dyes need ~ 2500 Arcane powders.
By a rate of 5 powder / salvage, this are 500 items to salvage and by 5 items / chest this are still 100 chests. Not to mentions, that you probably wont win 100 games in a row.
By calculating a win-rate of 60% this would be ~ 167 played matches.
But in this calculation, I havent even calculated the Arcane Silver, or the Arcane orbs.
If Moa gets removed from PvP, what’s its use then?
Morphing some PvE creature in another PvE creature?
For fun, Somteimes i morph moas into moas by using moa morph…Yo Dawg!
The biggest thing, Moa Morph gives the Mesmer, is basicly, that the enemy cant use stunbreaks / condi remove anymore. Btw, if you morph your enemy into Moa, withou having an imobilize ready, you gonna have a bad time.
The big disadvantage of Moa is, that it has a relative long casttime and REALY OFTEN fails, as you get blinded / the skill gets blocked / enemy dodges.
A big problem is, that mesmer basicly has no real other “good” Elite skills for 1 vs 1 / small battles. Sure, Mass invisibilty and Time Warp are nice, but both are a waste in 1 vs 1, especiall Mass invisibilty: 90s cd for some seconds of stealth? Decoy is far better in 1 vs 1.
I would be willing to trait Moa Morph into something like the warrior elite sigil, any ranger, engeneers supply crate or Guradians renewed focus.
If that turns out to truly be the case, I’ll be staying well away from PvP then, and be all the more happy for it. If not, well I’ll be in some 1v1 trading kills (the 20 I need to the stupid achievement) and then never touch PvP again till another meta forces me to.
No offense, but is sad, that a “PvP-player” (actually, I play PvE, too) has to explain you, how PvE meta achievements work.
Maybe you should read this:
“Halloween-themed daily achievements will also be available until November 11 and contribute to the meta achievement.”
Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-guide-to-blood-and-madness/
On this “cheater / exploit”-discussion. I’d like to say some words:
PvE is about playing together. There is no “real” competition between the players (If you don’t count things like who has the most AP/Gold/Legendaries). If there’s a faster / cleverer way to get gold / do an instance, everbody can use it and it probably don’t harms anybody (…if rly everybody would use it, due to inflation, nobody would profit, either, but that’s another issue).
PvP, as its name already says, is basicly about competing against each other. Of course, you can play in a guild or group, but you will still have “rivals / opponents”.
This is what PvP is about. Nope, not what it’s about in my “special rule-set”, competition is the core of PvP. Of course nobody needs to fight until death and you dont need to be as much cruel / the biggest kittenbag as possible, but still it is an competition.
PvP without competition is probably, like you would imagine PvE where instead of killing NPCs / making dungeons, there’s just some infinite lootbag lying around and whoever presses the lootbutton as fast & often as possible, will get the most.
I decided to put this thread into the “Discussions”-section, as in the PvP-section, I suppose there wouldnt be that mutch discussion at all.
This are the differences between PvP and PvE and why killing each other is seen by many as exploit / cheat.
I don’t know, how “strong” this would be, but I had some time ago 1 simple idea:
Make players invulnerable to (already applied) conditions while they dodge.
This wont save you, but this way, you might be able to “dodge” one of the ticks.
Facing a condition focused class, evading one tick could mean that you don’t get the next tick of some bleed stacks, fire and poision.
Maybe you dont turn a blind eye at it, but you never forbid it, acutally.
I think, a very big step already (at least for me) would be a simple, big announcement:
“Don’t farm skyhammer, or there will be consequences”
It costs you almost nothing, and a lot of players would be see, that you actualy deal with the topic and it could even stop it.
Then you still have time to talk / discuss about what consequences you draw.
Atm all you do is answering some forum threads. That’s good, too. At least we don’T feel completly ignored, but it is far lee of what you could do.
The good:
The best thing probably rly was that launches became stun breakable.
The missing
Actual balancing + new PvP content.
One easy step:
Place the button for the Tournaments (and the NPC) somewhere else.
Just imagine there’s a player new to sPvP. He wants to try it out:
If he opens the PvP menu, the first window popping up, shows some statistics. -Who cares?! He wants to play!
So he clicks on the 2nd slide in the menu (the tournamen menu).
-> Great! A window, alsmost empty, but there’s a button joining the Solo Arena, which you can’t miss! Perfect! This must be PvP, here we go!
(…and another rank 1 player in tournament)
Then look at the Server-Browser. The Buttons for joining are placed in the corners and there is some stuff about filters and a list of some Servers.
And if our newbie manages to get to the mists, there’s a 50% chance, that he goes left to the PvP-Browser and a 50% chance that he goes right.
Be honest, who always reads the NPC texts or talks to the PvP-Instructor?
What I want to say: Make the PvP menu more beginnerfriendly.
…Of course, this wont solve all problems, but it should be easy to implement and wont harm anybody.
^
And this is, why I have something, against some kind of PvE players ^^.
Here are some news for you Thanguard:
1. You can achieve the meta achievemt by doing the Living-story related dailies, too.
You only have to get into PvP, if you want absolute every Ap, which is possible.
2. Hot Join, is full of beginners, as this is basicaly the sense of Hot Join. (Give new players a place to practice and players who aren’t interested in playing on tournament level a place to play PvP.
3. Yea, how would PvP players feel, if ANet tied PvP stuff to PvE?
cough cough Custom Arenas for which you need gems cough cough Itemshop Skins cough cough Black Lion Chest Skins cough cough Skins from the Crown pavillon cough cough All Backpacks ever cough cough
…yep, I have no Idea how this would feel…
…but as you have no knowlege about PvP, you probably dont know this…
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
It’s funny, that achievement isn’t even that hard to do in PvP at all. Hotjoin a game, run around with people on your team, help down enemy players and then use the finisher on them. I did it, and it only took maybe 30 minutes of my time.
That’s great!
And in fact, it isn’t that hard to kill somebody in PvP.
It is this attitude of some players, which seem like they dont even want to touch PvP with gloves and a protection overal on the one hand, but still want to get the pvp achievements. This is what I cant stand.
Ah ok…people are using it to get the achievement for usng halloween finishers. Now i understand. However i agree with one person who said they paid for the game and can play it. Imagine it’s hard for people who don’t PvP or WvW to get that achievement! I may end up doing the same since WvW is DEAD thanks to the event. I was hoping to join a zerg there and use the finishers but now i think i may not be able to.
I paid for this game, too. So where’s my legendary?!
Yes it is hard for people who don’t PvP to get that achievement. So what?
If you play just PvP, 90% of all achievements in this game will probably be very hard.
I haven’t given that mutch attention to the last Update, but is this “stomp-achievemnt” so ultra-super-duper-important?
No! It gives you 3 AP, thats it!
It is just about people grinding achievement points.
Why do people always compain about that they have to do something for earning APs?
If Warriors dont lose Adrenalin when missing with F1, at least our Illusions shouldn’T be destroyed.
And yes, Mes has 4 F-Skills, but those have totally different effects, and their Cds go up to 60s, while Warrior have 2 F Skills (one 4 each weapon) with relative low CD.
Two? What’s the other one?
Cause they only have one pool of adrenaline. If a warrior misses his adrenaline isn’t expended, but he has to wait out the cool down. If he hits he loses adrenaline and has to rebuild it.
If a Mesmer misses his power goes on cooldown but he has a bunch of others and can instantly recoup by summoning another phantom. If a Mesmer hits the only difference is that he applies some effect as well. Basically since a Mesmer is never without at least a Phantom available they’re never in the same situation as a Warrior, so they shouldn’t be balanced the same either. Which they’re not.
Warrior has 1 F-Skill for each weapon set and as far as I know, the F-skills dont share their cooldown.
So if one skill misses, the warrior has still adrenaline left and can use the other one, espacially due to the fact that a lot of builds only have reduced weapon swap.
So warrior has 2 F-skills with 10s cd each one.
Mes has 4 skills, most of them have cooldowns far beyond 10s.
Additionally, the skills have mostly completly different usage.
F1 is damage
F2 is condition dmg / far lower damage
F3 is mostly interrupt, or if traited in order to aplly vulnerability
F4 is protection
Warrior skills are usually all about dmg / stun. So if a warrior might miss with one of his F-skills, the F-skill of the second weapon set might still to very well.
If a shatter Mesmer misses with F1, he might be able to use F2, but thats vary less effective.
I’m not really familiar with the PvP servers or arenas or whatever, but how do you know they are doing this? Are you there? They won’t play with you? Are you just afk, and watching? Or is this something with observer mode?
If it’s a private server/arena, I imagine they can do as they please. If it’s a public server/arena, then I imagine you can join in the fights and they won’t be able to ‘farm’ points or whatever without you engaging them in battle.
I know, as sometimes I joined those servers. This are just common Hot Join Severs, not the “Skyhammer farm” custom Arenas, so you dont se whats going on on this servers, until you joined.
And when I am on those severs and see some nude Charakters who just stand around and get attacked and killed by the other players, this isnt probably about pvp.
…And today sombody whispered me something like this “plz let us just kill each other, it is for the halloween event”.
No offense to all PvE players, but if you dont have to play PvP for getting PvP achievement / stuff, I want a way of getting PvE stuff without playing PvE, too.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
Maybe there was some misunderstanding (sry, English isnt my mothertongue).
Those guys dont actually “fight”
It is like this:
Players meet:
Player A let himself get killed by player B —> repeat.
They dont fight.
But this is, what PvP is about.
They are just farming their dailies / achievements or atm this event finisher stuff.
It is about that this people arent event interested in playing PvP. They just want the stuff they get by those achievements.
Maybe the term “kill each other” wasnt exactly what I ment to say, sry about that.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
Before I begin, let me say some words:
I don’t have anything against PvE / PvE-players.
Everybody has his own playstlye and content he wants to play in GW2.
But what I can’t stand, are PvE Players who just go with some friends into sPvP join an empty Server and start killing each other repeatedly,…
Edit
There may be some missunderstanding: by “killing each other” I want to they, that they dont even fight, one player lets another play just kill him and probably after a certain amount of kills, the other player lets himself get killed
Edit ending
… in order to get their PvE dailies done, or to get the PvP achievements.
Of course you can say "if they are on their own server, nobody gets "harmed"", but on the other hand, this is no legit playstyle in my opinion, as PvP is about being competitive and not about farming each other.
In other games which contain PvP, this behavior is usually even forbidden and you can be banned for this, but it seems in GW2 ANet doesnt care.
So, what is your opinion?
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
Seriously why can you?
THIS
IS
ARENA NET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…on page 3 I think, there is already a couple of threads about this topic.
Just give up sPvP, it is easier than getting disappointed by every new patch, containing nothing abouth the important issues of PvP.
But hey! We got Damage Floaters! Those are so cool!
Can we kill the wurms on skyhammer ground now? :O
Best moment some days ago:
about 10-20s before the match starts.
It almost looks like it could be a 5 vs 5 match as every player is already on the map.
BUT THEN:
On the enemy team, 1 player disappears (the match hasnt started, yet).
Second player on the enemy team curses in map chat and ragequites.
Then: the 1. player (the one who disappeared) appears again. Probably, he had a DC / switched profession.
So it ended up 4 vs 5…
But on the otherhand, you barely do anything to prevent it. Slow mitigation is nothing.
It’s not as simple as hitting a switch. This issue has been one that we have had several discussions over. The problem is that many of the solutions are either too complex, or they hurt a portion of our player base, etc.
Also, we can’t say when/if we have a solution to the issue, because when we do we see a huge increase in players abusing it (at the beginning of the month, I said that we had a fix to help mitigate it, and we saw the numbers skyrocket).
You will just have to trust that we will protect the integrity of the game as soon as possible.
The problem is: You should officially declare Skyhammer farming as an EXPLOIT and say that there will be consequences for the players using it. (At least for the ones after the declaration, in best case for all of them).
Then, the numbers wont skyrocket anymore.
The numbers skyrocketed when you said you gonna mitigate this method, as everybody wanted to get most Glory from farming as long it is still possible.
It is pretty much the same, as if you would say, you would nerf the Champion Bag loot in 1 month. The numbers of farmers, before this nerf comes would possibly increase, too.
And when you say, the numbers skyrocketed, when you annouced the upcoming mitigation, this means, you ARE ACTUALLY ABLE to see who farms on Skyhammer.
Just make one announcement, that Skyhammerfarming is exploit and there wont be many players left still doing so.
@ “trust in you”.
No offense, but I have the feeling, this is something, a lot of pvp players have already lost a long time ago.
Comparing Skyhammerfarming (→ huge gain of PvP “curency” aka Glory) versus the Karma Exploit in PvE.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/31/3000-guild-wars-2-players-permanently-banned-for-karma-exploit/
PvE: “Emergency fix, 3000 players permanently banned”
PvP: “we can’t say when/if we have a solution to the issue, because when we do we see a huge increase in players abusing it”, total amount of banned players: 0, not even called an Exploit.
Isnt it somehow ironic, that you tollerate exploits in PvP, which should be much more about competitiveness, much more than in PvE?
A Balance Patch shoudln’t be given to PvP by grace of ANet.
Balance Patches are just a way of keeping things…yeah…into balance.
It will probably stop players from quitting due to frustration about OP classes / builds.
But it wont stop players from quitting due to missing PvP content.
uhm…source / reference plz?
And if this is true, how will they seperate ppl who “just played Hot Join” from Skyhammer farmers?
But if Glory farmers (at least Skyhammerguys) keep their rank, while having bronze ladder icon, what does it matter?
If I have to chose between 1k gold in PvE, while only having 1k Achievement points versus 10k Achievement points and 10 gold, I will still chose the first one, as I can BUY STUFF with the gold.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
TBH, if twilight would alter some of the mesmers effects like the butterflies, or GS#1 into black, I maybe would consider crafting it.
Nah :/
You can get to Lions Gate via the Portal in the HotM.
If HotM would get a Trading Post, it would get exploited too much by the PvE Guys.
Dear ANet,
I think one thing which upsets PvP players is, that it is dificult to sell them on a credible way, that you need months for every new thing in sPvP, while it is possible for you to add new PvE stuff every two weeks.
Not to mention, that you even doubled the speed of PvE-Updates from a 4-weekly into a 2-weekly cyculs.
If you want to get more players into PvP, why don’t you focus all of your ressources for one month onto sPvP.
I suppose, the average “casual” player is already realy busy by trying to complete all of this living world achievement stuff you throw at them biweekly.
If those players have to chose between content only available for a short time period (containing “exclusive” rewards) versus low content PvP which is always available, why should they chose PvP?
How hard is it to make rewards for pvp? Just add few exclusive skins we can buy with glory since thats good for nothing right now why do we have to wait a months for rewards when pve gets it every 2 weeks…. You are not going to have any pvp players left by then. Just saying…..
We want to totally revamp the way rewards and PvP interact with the entire game, what you’re suggesting is relatively easy, but in the long run not what we think fundamentally will solve the core issue with PvP. We’re working on comprehensive fixes to help bring PvP and the sense of more reward more in with the rest of the game, rather than apply band-aids on a system we don’t really like anyway.
As for the skins, absolutely that’s one of things we’re discussing.
Why should a PvE player have to play in PvP to earn a PvE skin? If someone doesn’t want to PvP, why would you make them do it to obtain a PvE skin?
Why should a PvP player have to play PvE to earn Gems?
Espescially why should a PvP player have to play PvE (for Gems) in order to buy a Custom Arena?
Why isn’t it even possbile for PvP players to get almost any cool skin, which is availbable in PvE?
Why should a PvP player have to play PvE if he wants to get the Skins optained through Achievement points?
PvE player have so many advantages compared to PvP players, you shouldnt start complaining, if it gets mentioned that maybe there will be Skins excluively obtained by doing PvP.
Grammar kitten mode: 2nd Paragraph: "Mesmers have five teleports, tHree (not “tree”) […]"
Things to mention (maybe):
Blink (or all teleports) become(s) maybe most efficient if you port behind an enemy, as you become “invisble” for him due to the fact you are simply not on his screen anymore…and he has to turn his camera around.
Illusionary Leap (Sword #3) still works, when the clone gets destroyed.
@ Stealth / Revealed:
If you use a shatter skill and a stealth skill, when your “shattered” illusions haven’t hit the target yet, you will become revealed when an illusions hits (don’t know if on miss, too).
Edit:
Another little Thing concerning Skyhammer: DONT use Blink, to teleport over those “breaking glas fields” if you use Blink, you will exactly being ported where the glass begins. → If there is none and you are pressing W / vorwards, you are going to run right into the hole.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
So, you basicly say:
You are working on some (very vague formulated) stuff for pvp and in 3 month, you are far enough, that the developement is far enough (but not ready) to talk about?
No offense, this sounds almost like the stuff, students tell their teachers, when they get asked what they’ve done yet for a project and they don’t even have started, yet.
As I am no native English speaker could plz someone explain this to me:
In January, things should hopefully be nailed down enough we should be able to go into much greater detail on the other systems and features we’re working on right now on top of the stuff listed above.
…Does this mean, that “right now” you are not working on the features you listed up above?
As if the thing you are working on right now is “on top of the stuff listed above” doesnt this mean, it is “above” (-> not a part of) this list?
Maybe my English is just bad, I dont have any bad intentions, help would be welcome.
How about this one:
Simple solution, I am sure it is not the best one, but easy to implement:
Missing player: team with missing player gets ~10-50 points from beginning
Match doesnt influence the Leaderboard
And Add some kind of “pop up” so that both teams know about this settings when the match starts.
Isnt there already a huge thread for this topic?
Will we be able to get those new skins through the pvp chests?
Question as above, we had that last year and I’d appreciate it. Hoping for Dev answer ofc.So you’re basically asking to get pvp skins while playing pvp only, without going pve for getting them or buying gems?
Yes what is so hard for you to grasp?
It is not hard to get, it is sarcasm as experience showed pvpers never get anything, available in PvE / Itemshop just by playing PvP.
Last exception were the Flame&Frost-Gloves…
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
@OP. Your issue is that you think PvP rank means something. It doesn’t. Once you understand that, you will not care what levels other people are. Just have fun.
If you would have read some parts of this thread, you would know, that it is not just about the rank.
First of all, even if Rank doesnt mean anything, it is almost the only “Ranking-System”(Sry 4 the Pun) PvP has.
Especially, as Rank is what you need for getting Skins in PvP.
Additionally, if the Reward System of PvP will get redone (probably in 2020) the Skyhammer Farmer will profit most.
Totally agree with that one.
Hm, a new feature for sPvP, which probably isn’t much effort to implement?
→ No chance, ANet would do such a thing.
Then I want the same stuff for my Mesmer Illusions and Thiefes want probably the same for stealth…
Why not making glory rewards sth like this:
Hotjoin-Win: 300 Glory
Single-queue: 1500-Leaderboard-rank of highest Player in the Match
Team-queue: 2000 -Leaderboard-rank of highest Player in Match
Of course the last two one imply that the Leaderboards work properly.
This way, players would earn more glory and winning would be more rewarding.
But in the end, I think, ANet doesn’t need ideas for improving PvP, they are just not interested in changing PvP…i don’t know why…
I think, cultural armor is optained from rank 80 chests
Probably a Custom Arena with match-time as low as possible and then they just do the same like before and if everbody has max glory, they just wait for the next match to begin.
What about adding better ways for PVP players to get glory then? If you can get r80 in 1000 hours by legit playing less people would try to exploit.
The Glory/Rank-System is far away from perfection, however this doesnt give anybody the right to abuse gamemechanics.
This game has to have the most crybabies of any other mmo out there. Wah shame on you! Wahhhhhh my class is bwoke…wahhhhh people farm useless gwory..wwahwahhhwwwaaa!! i got owned by wanger.. wahhhhh i got owned by necwo….wahhhhh i got owned by engi… wahhhhh i got owned by wawwior. wahwwhwwaaaaaaa condis are no fun!! waaahhhhh AI to powoful!
i hope arenanet “breaks” as u babies all say, the game another way so that you all quit and cry to momma.
This game hasnt even just crybabies, it also has crybabies who cry about the crybabies…
I dont get the fuss about this. [No I didnt glory farm in skyhammer]. Glory ranks advance slower than levels in an asia grinder, so anything which speeds it up a bit is good.
The Problem is, that skyhammerfarming has nothing to do with pvp.
For a PvP player who actually FIGHTS for gaining some glory, it realy frustrating, that the most effective way of glory gane is “PvE-Style”, where nothing is about competiting / duelling / fighting / tactics, it is just about well timed mass-suicide.
…
…
…
Heart of the Mists is the “PvP-Lobby” where your sPvP items are stored, where you can change your sPvP-Build (Traits, Utilities, Skins, Runes, Sigills).
You can practice there PvP on several “Training NPCs” or buy stuff from glory.
But sPvP maps are made for max. 10 vs. 10 ppl, however I think the maps arent good if it is more than 5 vs 5.
This means, If there are already 3 ppl “premade” it is a much bigger percentage then in battles with 10/15/40 ppl per side.
In my oppinion, it is enough, that you are able to join the same team in Hotjoin, just by “well timed” joining.
If your team may get ripped appart due to auto balance, you should not complain about balance as there is already far too few of it in PvP.
You can group up with your friend and go into into tPvP.
If (and thats a big “If”) the Matchmaking works, your opponent team should be at your skill-level, so everything is fine.
In my oppinion, you can’t expect that there is a PvP-Mode where you are able to play in some kind of team, versus a random group of enemy. This would actually be more “casual-fiendly”, as a lot of Casuals then would complain why they have to fight versus preset teams when they just want to play some PvP.
How about this one:
Signet of Bla:
Passive Effect: Illusions inflict ~+80 (depending on Level) Damage. Affects Clones, too.
Aktive Effect: Get swiftness (and remove X Conditions).
Um, dont get me wrong, but arent PvP-Players already the only ones spending “real” money in this game, as every PvE Player is able to buy gems via gold, while the only way for PvP-Players to get gems is to buy them with money?
Regarding your #16, arent there already those Gem-Shop-Stomps?
One Thing ANet should add, is a “preview-feature” for the Stomps in the Shop.
I occasionally think about purchasing one, but as there is no way to see, how they actually look, I dont want to spent a lot of gems for a stomp which looks awfull in the end.
Additionally think, that “how to monetize PvP” is some issue which is realy far away from the present day, as PvP needs a much bigger Community then now and much more features.
You probably dont need an infinity amount of ways, how people spend money for PvP, you just need a lot of people, so that the absolute size of money spent increases.
Btw.: If there will ever be a “Yolo-Emote” in this Game, I probaly gonna leave.
So, they had something that was critically acclaimed and loved by people who tried it. Then, they created the next version and instead of listening to the community, they went in a completely different direction.
Everything that was comfortable about the last version, they changed and dumbed down for the sake of a “cleaner ui” and “easier to understand”. In the process, they alientated their core fanbase and I believe the current amount of users is a testament to that.
Now, in 15 days, they are finally listening to the community and adding in some of the features that we’ve been begging for since beta.
I can’t wait for the changes, but I still think it will be a long way from what the community wants.
Of course, I’m talking about Windows 8.1
Before I read the last sentence, my toughts were “wtf is he talking about?” xD
