Maybe this hasn’t been adequately explained before, but we do NOT disregard players and opinions on the forum, we just have to place forum feedback in the proper context.

is, what almost nobody observes.

You always say, that the feedback is important, however the times where I was like “oh look, they exactly did, what I hoped they would do” is very rare.
Not to mention, that even if YOU guys have some metrics to measure what players who don’t come to the forums want, the “common” forum user has not.
At least for me, I have no idea about what the somehow “mute” players who are not on the forums want, or how big they are in numbers.
In addition, as I also mentioned, nobody knows, how the weighting is between the “forum opinion” vs. “non-forum opinion”.

So everytime, it is mentioned that the forum is only a small group of ppl, it feels rly awkward, as you could basicly also say “God wants you to do XY”.
Maybe God exists, maybe not. I can’t prove that and ANet also doesn’t give us some kind of evidence.
So, everytime you say that the forum opinion is not the one of the majority of the players, you want us to believe you this, without any evidence.

I mean, please, explain to me, why you guys think that your developement decisions are right, when so many ppl are complaining about them?

So ANet guys often say that the forums don’t represent the whole playerbase.
Up to a certain point, that’s probably true.

However, I realy want some of the ANet guys to explain cleary how they get / weight the player feedback.

Dont come up with empty phrases like “Forums are important” etc.
Look at the pvp forum these days /weeks/months. Almost completely filled with complaints.

I rly would like to know, how ANet gathers the opinions of the players who don’t come to the forums.
Yes, not every player comes to the forums and ppl are more likly to complain in the forums as to only make a thread how great everything is.
But how do you guys measure what is “important”?
How many threads / ppl have to complain about sth in the forum until you consider it as important?

Don’t give me another describtion about what Allie does.
I’m pretty sure, Allie at least came up once with Pistolwhil, Decap Engi and Warriors.
But when the Devs answered, that they wont change them until the next patch, Allie should have slapped them into the face until they decided to do sth. about this.
At least this would have been the proper reaction according to the amount of complaints in the forums.

What’s the point of the forums if obviously every issue brought up by the community gets completly nullified by a Dev saying “Nah, we wont do this”.

Or just look at Ready Up. It is a LIVE STREAM. So why the hell can’t you make it more like Q&A style instead of “the 1h ANET show”.
When I think about it, Ready Up is exactly some kind of what is the communitycation problem in GW2.
Even though it is a live stream on twitch, nobody cares about the chat there. The only thing the community can do is watch the stream while the Devs show us, what their opinion is, how they wanna see GW2 pvp.
Player Feedback in GW2 is like voting in North Korea.
Technically you have the possibility to give feedback. Practically your feedback wont do anything…except of getting you killed.

GW2 Developement seems to work like “We appreciate your ideas, but watch, this is what we will do.”

I don’t even want a discussion in this thread.
All I want is, is sb with a red tag say “This is how we weight / handle Community feedback: …” and even more important, I want to know, how you handle the “not existing” feedback of all those players who don’t go to the forums, as obviously, their opinion seems very important to ANet.

Interesting point, but I don’t think (at least I hope so) that this is not how it will work.
Probably in spvp you’ll get more ferocity from the traitline.
Or they simply use another formular for spvp.

As an altoholic, I feel your pain. I’ll need to take a look at the data tomorrow, find out just how common re-rolling is for PvPers.

Tbh, I’m not sure wha exactly your tasks within the Game Developement are.
But please (PLEASE!!!) don’t tell me, that the issue was NOT regarded when making those changes.

I suppose, the guys making the traits etc. worked months on this stuff. So, within this time, nobody might have come up with this issue? I mean, it was probably already mentioned from the player side, when the new heals came out.
And now, where you are announcing this stuff and players come up with a hundreds of OBVIOUS complaints, you guys will “look at the data”?

Maybe you could swap the Push from flamethrower with a pull.
If I remember right, one of the 1. versions of the flamethrower even had a pull.
Changing it to pull wouldn’t reduce the amount of CC the flamethrower has, however for pulling an enemy from the node, the engi itself would have to leave the node.

The Strenght of the Canon makes it very important to hold.
This basicly turns the Canon into a “4th Capture” point.
The Conquest / Capture Point -System is makes bunker builds very strong.
Another “Capture point” increases the strength of bunker builds.
MM of SoloQ is bad and often leads to very unbalanced separation of bunkers among the teams.
Meaning, 1 team migth have a 2-3 bunkers while the other one has 0-1 bunkers.
This is already bad for the other PvP maps. The fact that on Skyhammer you also have to hold the Canon increases this effect.

The amount of knockbacks and/or stability some professions have and others don’t is the other problem.
Or stuff like knockbacks / pulls coming from stealthed players making those often undodgeable.

Also don’t forget the new Warrior GM trait giving adrenalin skills a 100% crit chance
I also think that the ele trait is superior.
However seeing GW2 implode would be way more fun. This way, Devs maybe realize what their “balance” has done to the game xD.

The dueling one might be rly strong in WvW / Zergs.
In PvP, I’d regard it as almost useless. Distortion when downing a player would be awesome (and probably OP). But when killing a player? For what?

At the Chaos one, I don’t get why you get retaliation from Mindwrack and Might from Cry of Frustration.
I mean, Mindwrack is the typical burst shatter, Might would be more appropriate. Not to mention, that there even is another trait giving you retaliation from Cry of Frustration. So why not continue this?

The Illusions one is just lol…
Not to mention that somehow it seems useless, but why the kitten is it even in the inspiration line?
The inspiration line also hkittentered condition. Both those traits are getting absolutly devalued by being in that line.

The illusions line one looks interesting, however I am no fan from torment in general.

With power creep I just wanted to say, that an elite trait will make a build strong. (otherwise what’s the point?)

You get an “additional” Trait. Therefore every build will automatically become stronger.
Think about it: If the elite trait will not improve your Build, why should you use one?
However, I players are indifferent between using and not using, what’s the point of using ressources on developing it?

Seriously people, this is a preview, not a comprehensive list of all changes.

But a lot of this information is already known.
It is not a preview, it is more like some kind of reanouncement.
So why don’t they tell us new stuff?
They should expect these reaction, when the only thing they tell us is, what we already know.
Leaving us questioning: Why don’t they tell us anything new?
If there actually were some good + new balance changes, why wouldn’t they tell us?
Do they prefer a dozen flame threads in the forums over players being happy about the changes they made?

1.Now mesmers, since this “emagherd pressing 1200 range instant interrupt is hard” spec started to become popular i heard people constantly saying how their “lockout” or w/e gw1 mesmer was awesome and gw2 totally needs it BAM here you go 10 second interrupt. Will it be good? If you interrupt crucial skill now its deadly already, later it will just be deadlier even if you interrupt this skill in worse moment.

1.Lockdown already existed before the patch. Yes, it has some isses, but I can’t remember anybody in the Mesmer forum complaining about interrupts setting skills only on 5s CD.

People usually want buffs for their classes, as this are probably the classes they play most, undstand most and so proposing changes to their own class probably is easier than demanding nerfs for other lasses.

Just a clarification here:

Earlier it was stated by Roy that new players in pvp will still have all traits unlocked EXCEPT the new ones that will be added. If this is the case, then I dont see a reason to complain, unless the price for unlocking is something crazy like 1g or more. Hell, the way i see it 10 or 20 games of hotjoin will get you all of the skills you need (hopefully)

The new healing skills costed how much? 25 Skillpoints aka 25 tomes?
I don’t expect any of the new traits costing less than 50s.

I don’t think, there is any way to avoid powercreep, when giving every professoin an additional trait.
If the trait wouldn’t influence the build, it would be useless. If it does, it will strengthen the build. This new trait will always influence a skill, a combo or stats. The only way it might not be a power creep, is probably by giving the traits also a downside. Sth like: +10% Prezision, -10% Vita.
However, Even this would be some kind of powercreep. A Burst Build would gain (in absolute numbers) a large amount of Prezsion, while losing not very much Vita.

I think, discussing about the issue with the unlocks would lead this thread to much OT and there are already threads about that. So regarding this, I gonna stay with my opinon and accept that yours is another one.

The problem is, in pvp, there isn’t much left, making pvp worth playing.
Not to mention, that within pvp, there never ever has to be anything, for what you could use the word “much” as it doesn’t provide a lot of content.

It is nice, that you trust ANet, however, as already mentioned, trust is sth a lot of ppl have already lost.

PvE players have 2 options:
Play PvE to unlock, or pay to unlock.

PvP player are stuck with the second one.

Not to mention, that this is more about the fact, that you have to unlock the traits, not how they are unlocked.

I think every pvper made a huge mistake by ignoring the implementation of new healing skills, yes I know they were all crappy, but that gave anet a precedent – no one cared that they went against the whole idea of spvp in gw2, thus they can do it again, and again, and again. Where do you draw a line then? Will there be only trait unlocks? How about some new utilities? Maybe an elite or two for couple hundred gems? Or some pack new sigils that can be unlock just for 9.99€? I hope that this is not the road anet is following, but the whole situation looks grim.

If I remember right, the pvp community also wasn’t excited at all about the new heal skills having to be unlocked.

However, just like always, ANet totally ignored all kinds of criticism.

I would rly appreciate it, if ANet would simply stop trying to tie PvE and PvP together.
Every player has his own tast and that’s why some plave PvE or PvP or both.
If PvP players would be interested in PvE, they would play PvE and not PvP.
I suppose, the only reason why ANet wants to fuse the modes is, as they want to give PvE palyers more incentives to play PvP by enabeling them to unlock everything in PvP without actually playing it.

Fusing PvP and PvE has so many downsides.
Just look at the Balancing. Usally PvE and PvP have a lot of different issues, however, by always trying to make a skill / trait balanced in both modes, ANet cuts in its own flash.
If a skill needs to be towned down in PvP, it is probably much more effective and way more faster to simply town it down for PvP and not touch is PvE side, instead of wasting time about how to find a compromise for both.

Problems with the unlock system:

1. It totally stands in contrast to the initial characteristics of GW2 pvp. Spvp was always ment to be a place where you could jump in right from the beginning, without having disadvantages at the choice of skills / traits.

2. Being able to unlock new skills / traits is NO reward, being not able to use those traits is just a penalty, however, this doesn’t turn the unlocking system into a reward.

3. What else will we have to unlock in PvP? It started with skills, now we have to unlock traits. What’s next? I heard, they also reward runes and sigils as well as they add new amuletts. Will we have to unlock those, too?

4. Every time, sombody has issues with fighting vs. a certain build, you usally get the answer “try to play that build by urself”. This is a good tip and as long you have 1 free char space, it is easy to realize. With unlocks, it will become “spend 1-2 gold into a char you probably wont use very much, if you want to try it”.

5. For PvE players, there are 2 ways to unlock the new traits: via “Exploring the world” and the general way, the merchant. PvP players will be restricted to the merchant. At least, give us a unique PvP way for unlocking them. What about using the e.g. “(Chapmion) Illusionist” titels or Ranks for that (in additoin to merchants)

And last, this is more related to the “fusion of PvE and PvP”.
I know, you already introduced coins in PvP, however you should consider this:
As soon PvP gives more coins than PvE, PvE players might abuse PvP for farming issues. However, as long PvP gives significantly leses coins than PvE, PvP players will complain about having disadvantages.
This gets worse, when you need coins to unlock stuff for PvP.
Getting less coins out of PvP isn’t that bad, if PvE is the only thing, you can use them for. Getting less coins out of PvP, while actually needing them for PvP is unfair.

Even though GW2 has not the worst crafting system (I’m not talking about the mystical forge), I’m no fan of crafting.
Crafting = PvE. But I want kittenin play PvP and not craft some stupid kitten.

Crafting PvP mats in the mystical forge is, for my taste, already enough crafting in PvP and i definitifly don’t want to see more of it.

Lockdown works well versus casters, but isn’t that effective against a lot of other classes, e.g. thief.

seems interesting, especiall, as you also get Illusionists celerity.
But still too many Cons for using the new trait. I’d rather play standard shatter, or 20/20/0/10/20 for vigorous revelation, as critical infusion will get nerfed.
If Power Block gets an CD; it probably will be almost useless.
I hope, there will be sth rly nice for the duelling (I hope, they don’t give us another Mantra kitten trait) and illusions.

I’m not even sure, if we will get a new meta…or at least not necessarily a better one.

Think about it:
The only way, we might get a new meta is, that either the new GM traits will create even more powerfull builds than those in the current meta, or will create builds which hardcounter the current meta.

Both don’t seem like sth you should try to achieve.

Even though, I would just prefer to unstealth thieves when the stealth attack gets blocked, I like this idea.
Another advantage is, that if it gets implemented, you can easily adjust it. Like increasing or decreasing the initiative costs.

The only problem class for me on my interrupt mesmer is thief. This trait doesn’t affect thief weapon skills, and I’ll be forced to drop either DE or Chaotic Interruption for it. Not worth.

It’s surprising that they make a whole new GM trait for interrupt builds AFTER being presented with the knowledge that 1/2 the thief weapon skills don’t cost initiative or go on a cooldown when they’re interrupted and they go ahead and launch this ship and specifically state it won’t affect thieves. :\

Same thoughts here.
It might be good, but I think, Chaotic Interruption is still the better one to go with.
I would have prefered if they gave us back the “bugged” CS (with Chaos Storm).

Yes, the trait is strong, however, if I would play Lockdown and had to choose between 30/20/20/0/0 and 20/20/30, I probably would still play the second one.

Interrupting a Heal and putting it on 10s CD seems nice,
however, as Lockdown builds have a huge variety of interrupts, I’d prefer Interrupting the Heal once and again after 5s, so I can get twice as much out of Halting Strike and Bountifull Interuption.

Not to mention, it is almost wothless against thieves.

The fact, that they probably only add GM traits means, that Mesmers won’t get a better way to deal with condis, as even if they would make a “anti condi GM trait” it will be placed unreachable for most builds.

TLDR:
Illusions = passive play = bad + boring
Clones = only fool & annoy new players, long-winded replacement for direct damage / condi apply
Phantasms = low level of control over them, rly annoying to fight against, defensive Phantasms (Disenchanter, Defender, Warden) also need a target.

Heyho Guys, I’d like to start a discussion about the Mesmers Illusions.
Phantasms as well as Clones.
The reason I do this, is my opinion, that the mechanics behind those aren’t rly good.
Most of my arguments rely on pvp experiences, however, I think there also might be some pve issues.

Illusions in General

One Issue with the Illusions is, that they are AI. Playing with, or fighting AI rarely is fun.
Ever played a Phantasm Mesmer in PvE? As soon as you have 3 Phantasms up, you only basicly can’t use 4 of your weapon skills. Otherwise you will overwrite your Phatasms. Not to mention how much fun and challanging it is to watch your illusions doing damage.
On the other hand, fighting AI also is kind of strange. One issue is, that you can’t “confuse” AI. Mesmers and Thieves might know how annoying it is if you totally confused a Ranger or Mes and he obviously has no idea where you are, but doesn’t matter, as his pet / illusions always will find you.

Clones

One big issue is the"deceptive" aspect of the Mesmer which should usally be provided by clones (and stealth).
In PvE, at least I haven’t found out, which rule NPCs follow when a Mesmer fights them. Sometimes they attack an Illusion, sometimes a clone, sometimes the original. As I already mentioned, you can’t confuse AI, which makes “deception via clones” pretty useless in PvE.
In PvP, new players complain about clones making them unable to find the real Mesmer, while experienced players don’t have issues with this. This bothers me in 2 ways.
First of all, in the more “skilled” endgame, you can’t fool anybody with clones. The second one is, that there aren’t rly a lot of “levels” within the ability of finding the real Mesmers. It’s almost binary: “Players who can and players who don’t”.
In my opinion, that’s not how a mechanic should be designed. It bothers only new players and leaves veterans completly unimpressed. What I want to say is, that the only thing, this mechanic does, is to overburden new players. So what’s the point? Who prefers a “anti noob-mechanic” versus a something reliable in all “skill-levels” of pvp?

Without the confusion aspect, clones usally can only be used kittenter resources, to apply conditions (via clonedeath or autoattacks), and sometimes as meatshields.
However, burst damage and conditions aren’t things, you necessarily need AI for.
E.g, a common way to shatter works with using Mirrorimages when close to the enemy and then immediatly shatter them. In this combo, the clones roughly lived for 1 second.
Not to mention the big downside of clones, that they can easily be destoryed via AoE.

Finding an alternative to clones might also drasticly increase build diversity. Almost evrey Mesmer build runs with Deceptive Evasion, as clones are an important damage ressource. Removing clones might remove the “duty” for Mesmers to put 20 points into Duelling.

One way might be, to replace clones with some kind of buff. Let’s call it “PowerPoints” (not office tool). Every skill which created a clone, instead gives the Mesmer a PowerPoint.
Other skills (especially shatter skills). Use those points for greater effects. This might be somehow similiar to the adrenalin mechanic of warriors.

Phantasms

So what’s the issue with Phantasms? As already in the general part mentioned, playing phantasm builds is some kind of boring. The amount of control you have over your phantasm might only be slightly higher than your control over your Rock Dog when using Ogre Runes.
You can summon phantasms and you can sacrifice them (via shatter) and that’s it.
On the other hand, they are in a lot of situations rly unflexible. They can’t follow you and they are bound to an enemy. For “utility Phantasms”, which often might just be nice to summon like P.Disenchanter, P.Defender and also I.Warden, you also need a target.
You can’t “tell” your Dischanter, to primarily remove your conditions and not the enemies boons. You also can’t just place the I.Warden just next to you in order to gain protection from Projectiles.
On the other hand, fighting phantasm Builds also can be rly annoying. If you can’t dodge the summons, you will have try to kill your enemy while the AI will damage you.

Maybe you could replace phantasms with sth closer to conjured weapons or transforms. Something, you have activly to control. Or at least make some “Phantasm free” Weapons. So you don’t have to use phantasms when you don’t want.

Pls note, that the posted alternatives for Clones and Phantasm are something, I came up with while writing this post, so they are probably not perfect. My Intention was more to show the problems of the illusions.

I gonna tell you a little story:

I stoped playing GW2 pvp in the beginning January, as I was very busy a this time. However, the pause wasn’t that hard as the state of pvp sucked at this time
At the end of February, i started to have more time again.
I thought “Hey! I haven’t played for a long time and it’s bin an eternity since the last pvp update. I’m sure, there was already a pvp patch”.
So I went to the forums, looking up the changes they made. I searched…and searched…and searched.
Finally, I realized, there was no patch. This made me so frustraded, I didn’t even come back. There was nothing interesting would have liked to have again.

Thus, instead of playing, the only GW2 related thing I do, is haunting the forums desperately hoping for something to happen.

TLDR:
7 & maybe 8, as long as I don’t have to buy a Mac.
