Lots of angry gamers…probably because they’re realizing that GW2 is as good as it gets. Otherwise, you’d wouldn’t be on these forums.
If you really want to make a point that ANet will hear, play another game and ditch the forums. Until then, it’s clear that the competition isn’t holding your interests. =P
ANet already won by making pvp players buy this game.
ANets profit increases when the time you play decreases.
The feature patch probably will be the next big disappointment for pvp players.
If not even this time they will manage to pull out something good….. i dont mean solving every problemin the game cause i know its impossible, but at least doing some good steps in the right direction, it will be last disappointment for me, and i’m quite sure i wont be the only one leaving for good.
I think, this is how a lot of ppl think.
But why should ANet manage to do better this time?
I don’t think (at least I hope so) ANet hast intentionally tried to ruin pvp within the last 1,5 years.
They just can’t do better.
Thats why this patch wont be better than other pvp patches.
And when the patch is there and another bunch of frustrated pvp players leaves…and maybe some pve players joined pvp as ANet gave them sth to farm in pvp, players will start to wait another 0,5 – 1 year for the next pvp patch.
The feature patch probably will be the next big disappointment for pvp players.
Sparing you balance changes to a certain date is BS.
Regarding new content, I don’t expect good stuff, as good stuff isn’t what we use to get from ANet.
The fact, that they don’t want to tell us, what is in the patch, means 2 things.
Either, the content isn’t even ready, so they actually don’t have much to talk about,
Or the content is so “meh”, that they know, if they tell us now we will be disappointed immediately.
I mean, if this patch was actually good, why not telling us?
By not giving us actual information, except telling us how “great” this patch will be, they only make it worse by increasing the hype and with that also the disappointment when the patch comes out.
My speculation for the patch date:
Too late.
So I talked to a dev:
Following conversation:
You could at least have hotfixed healing signet and the spirit of nature renewal :/
[18.03.2014 18:15:16] Sensotix: after 3 monthsDev: Healing Signet does not meet hotfix criteria
[…]
Please explain this to me because I can’t understand the logic behind it
You think (like everybody with common sense), that a Hot Fix might be for obviously “wrong” game elements.
For ANet, the Hot Fix criteria probably means a maximum level of related work to the element, which doesn’t need to be exceeded, otherwise it loses its “hot fix-chracter”.
^
This.
The Size of Asuras was already a topic long time ago.
There also used to be a big “anti-skyhammer-farm + punish the abusers”-thread on the 1. page of the pvp forum for a long time.
However, ANet alreadyhas proven, that they are able to ignore topics longer, than people are able to raise awereness.
If ANet would have kept updating PvP and would have done a better job with balancing, there wouldnt even be a need for getting more ppl into pvp, as in the beginning, there already were a lot of ppl.
However, a lot of them left.
I would like to have those role (DD; bunker …) icons, like suggested.
I also know the CommoRose System from BF 2142, I rly liked it.
At least we need a way the rapidly give some commands like “need help”, “point clear”, “inc” etc.
Even if I like to have some kind of strategy in SoloQ, I’m not a fan of Voice Communication.
If I would have the need to voicechat with my team, I would look for a pvp team with TS and play in TeamQ.
Maybe you should introduce a TDM mode (at least for Hot Join).
I’m not a fan of TDM, however, introducing TDM will keep the players who don’t care about the objectives out of Conquest, which means, that Conquest Hot Join will be a better learning environment for new players.
So I really like my Mesmer and I have some ideas of abilities I would like to see introduced in the future.
- Disguise yourself as your target (the way Countess Anise is able to do)
- Longer and more powerful stealth abilities (3 seconds is not enough for a master of illusion and deception)
- More illusions up at a time (I’ve seen Countess Anise with around 20-30 illusions active at the same time, why can a level 80 Mesmer only have 3?) – I think even bringing up 10 clones with no combat abilities that just run away from the target giving you cover to run without your opponent knowing which Mesmer to target in a “run away” situation.
- Can we get blink to not need a direct path? It would be so much more fun if we could teleport up ledges across jumps etc especially considering how my mentor in Durmand Priory is always teleporting all over the place during the puzzles.
- Transform myself into a tree or some other random object so I can ambush people, maybe have some clones/phantasms as trees too? Just for fun.
I think these abilities would just make the class more immerse and fun to play as a master of illusions and deception.
1. Either OP or useless in PvP. Also probably useless in PvE
2. No. There is more than enough stealth.
3. There is already enough AI in the game.
4. I think, thats a problem with the pathing, but might be nice.
5. I can’t imagine how this should work.
Edit: I like Carighans Ideas. (Are those from GW1?)
In my opinion, a lot of problems already might get solved just by removing the ability to join sides in Hot Join and to fix the abuse of forced autobalance.
8 vs. 8 Hot Join is usually a mess.
However, at least in 5 vs 5 games I had the feeling it isn’t that bad.
I remember, it was a big deal when 5 vs 5 Hot Join was introduced, as players were able to “practice” for the arenas.
Making some kind of MM for Hot Join, at least so that the system decides which side you are playing on and not yourself, migth solve a lot of problems.
And again, this is also a very old issue, in my opinon, there should be at least some kind of “warning” for new players who want to jump into solo or team que.
If you are absolutly new to pvp. the Serverbrowser for Hot Join might seem at the “first view” a little bit confusing for new players.
Just compare it to solo and team que. Those only have “one big button” to press on, while the server browser seems more complex.
This is probably a reason why occaisonally some absolute new players get accidently into solo Q, so this should be adressed.
TLDR:
-Don’t let players choose sides in Hot Join
-Deal with forced autobalance
-“Warning Sign”, mentioning that Solo & Team Q are (more) competitive, if a new player wants to join them
-Hint to 5 vs. 5 Hotjoin Servers
When payed tournaments were removed, there were actually NPCs, where you could trade in your tickets for chests.
Why cant you make sth. like this?
For a more accurate suggetion, I would need to know, how you change the reward system. But you never tell us anything…
You forgot to mention, that they make your still existing glory boosters worthless.
I ve got a full 250 stack in the locker and I think 100-200 in my inventory.
Haven’t played for a while, so I dont know.
Why I have so many of them:
Why shouldnt I?
For a long time, glory was basicly useless and just the “normal” glory you gained by playing was enough for buying some bags & chests when you hit a new regian (Wolf, tiger etc.)
Besides, as already mentioned they only last an hour, somtimes you forget to activate them, or you activate them just for wasting a part of them.
In addition, playing as a mesmer you basicly lose last tiny bit left of “confusion” provided by your clones.
Lol, didnt know, there was a Matchmaking system for HotJoin ^^
well, the mouse over tool tip on the “play” or “play now” button did say that we’ll be shoved into hotjoin rooms with similar glory or something.
1. wtf does “hotjoin rooms with similar glory” mean? O.o
2. But if I would use the “play now” button, wouldnt this mean, I might have to play on a 8 vs. 8 server? X.x
Making Mind Stab able to unstealth enemies seems to me very fair. It doesnt apply revealed, and isnt that easy to land.
I don’t think, we absolutly need a change to the blocks like illusionary riposte. The should simply be changed to getting revealed, even when you attack gets blocked.
The build is not in June. Just wanted to squash that before it became a thing! :P
It’s not june, in fact its on April 1st!
Ha! Actually, it was just a joke!
You guys didn’t rly expect them to make stuff for pvp, did you?
Ok, some serious questions:
Where did they tell us about the upcomming balancing changes (as the OP said)? Somehow I couldn’t find anything.
Will the patch be good? TBH, I highly doubt it.
I mean, ok, the ANet guys are excited. But those are the same guys, who made GW2 pvp what it is nowadays.
I mean, a masochist might be excited about getting a Nail thrusted through his hand, but I wouldn’t like that.
Wow, this is sooo long.
My thoughts:
Please not another Conditoin (nightmare)
You at least proposed once to “daze the enemy if it is confused”. -In my opinion, this in rly contrproductive. When you confuse an enemy, you usally want him to use skills. Dazeing him exactly does the oposite.
I like what you did to Signet of Domination, however, I think the passive might be a little too strong, the active maybe, too.
Making Mirror Images get Mindwrack on CD harms extremly Shatter builds (I think, that’s what you intend). However, I dont think shatter builds need a nerf.
What you did too PU is rly interesting, but this might lead to even more Mesmers using this trait, as vigor and swiftness are things, Mesmers always have high interests in. This means, the amount of “stealth builds” might stay to high.
In general, regarding your changes to phantasms, I’ve the feeling, like you want Mesmer to become another “Pet-class”. To be honest, I’m not a fan of this idea.
Lol, didnt know, there was a Matchmaking system for HotJoin ^^
As you are some kind of “Community Coordinator”, my question is:
Could you please tell my, why there is almost no communication from the side of ANet?
Staff is good, as his clones might be the “most usefull” ones.
In additoin, Phase retreat is awesome for evades, “stunbreaks” and “phase retreats forward”.
When Confounding Suggestions was bugged, it made an awesome choice for interrupt builds.
Since the bug is gone, I actually dont use it anymore, as for me, Chaos Storm has a too long CD with too unreliable interrupts for using it in a lockdown build.
I also dont regard this mechanics as balanced.
However, I dont think, that fixing this, might solve the problem.
The interrupt mechanics works on Heartseeker.
Regarding Pistol Whip and Lancerous Strike, I think, part of the problem is, that it is extremly hard to interrupt those skills, as they are evades.
Nevertheless, there should be some kind of punishment for thieves, if their skills get interrupted.
The “teamjoin” for hot join debate has been on for a long time now.
However, I m still on the “receiving side”.
Yes, joining with a bug is cool -the buddies.
However, it might be a pain in the kitten , for your oponents. Yes, we are talking about hot join. When it comes to Hot join, I want to play just some games -without having the risk of running into some kind of “team” as my enemies.
If it would be possible to join as a team (even if only 2 players) in Hot Join, why should any “solo player” still play Hot Join?
They would play solo Q, where (giving, sync queing is fixed) you dont have the risk of running into premade teams.
Or team Q, where you also might run into a premade team, however at least the rewards are higher.
This might leave Hot Join in a place where almost only “premade teams” would be.
Leading those teams either to start playing team Q due to the higher rewards, or demanding a way of “dual joining” Solo Q.
that have been already discussed btw
but as side note: dodging thief does 0 dmg, while dodging mesmer does dmg through ai/shatter…
What kind of argument is this?
The damage you recive is granted by other abilities, not by the doge itself.
You could also argue, that conditions are still tiking, while you dodge.
And you probably forogt stuff like flanking strike or pistolwhip, which are also evades.
As far as I know, they havent even punished ppl who exploited skyhammer.
There’s also no compensation for all the glory boosters which will become worthless, or compensation in gold for the games palyed before you got money out pvp.
ANet doesnt care. Realize it.
The title is wrong.
It should be more like “people who started to pvp ~ 1 month ago are getting bored, everybody else already is”.
The problem with TW being a Glamour skill is it’d be upgradeable too much.
Yeah, upgradeable far too much.
It’s not like other classes have an elite on a 45 second base cooldown that can be traited to give 2 stacks of 20second might when used and traited to reduce the cooldown and traited to last longer and traited to lifesteal when activated and traited to be aoe shared to allies.
Yeah, time warp being a glamour would definitely make it op.
Edit: Or how about an elite on a 60 second cooldown that can be traited to increase damage and traited to give you extra toughness and traited to have a lower cooldown and traited to have more health and traited to cause a death nova when it dies and traited to strip boons on attacks and traited to drain health to you and traited to draw conditions from you.
Yeah.
This.
ANet never followed some kind of a straight line by anything.
Look, how they changed the living story: from 1 update every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks and now they bury it.
Or from “we dont want an item spiral” to “hey here are ascendend items!”
Or just think about how often they changed the layout from the sPvP tournaments.
Maybe a little OT, but in regards of stomps / rezzes, I wish for the CS bug to return.
You could place a Chaosstorm onto an ally, or an downed enemy and it was almost a death sentence for every enemy trying to rezz / stomp without having stability
Quote from glassdoor reviem -Feb 9th ’14
“Pros:
[…]
-Community teams are amazing at communicating with the players and overall fan base”
-Wut?!
Ups, sry, forgot a “wont” xD
1. In the very beginning of GW2, I still can remember ANet saying, they had plans for/ would be working on several game modes, but atm only conquest is available, as they think it is the most fun.
Sry 4 not being able to memorize, which post this was, as it is about as old as GW2.
As I can’t prove this, believe it, or don’t, but I know this is true.
2. Those “Sandbox Servers”were basicly, what a lot of ppl. expected that custom arenas would be.
17. The time between the updates
18. How Anet deals with stuff like Skyhammer farm
19 & 20. How are those 2 guys called who ruined PvP a little more within every “Ready up”?
^ This.
I don’t have issues with PvE players and if some of them get actually EXCITED about spvp (so not just farm it for some stuff), it would be nice.
However, I don’t think, this will increase the competition that much.
Just imagine if you would put a big amount of illiterates into a college class for litrature.
It will increase the size of the class, but not the competition between the students.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regard PvP players better or worse than PvE players, I only want to say, everybody already playing pvp probably has more experience than a PvE player, so there wont be a big increase in the competition.
So, today I finally realized, why the next PvP Update will be a fail. No matter when it comes.
My arguments:
What do (at least) I expect of the next Update?:
1. Proper Balancing
2. A new Gamemode
3. Improved Reward system
Reasons for this:
I don’t think, I have to tell anybody here, why proper balancing is necessary. Nr 3 was already announced by ANet. So only Nr. 2 is left. A new Gamemode is needed, as even if there will be good balancing and a working reward system, sPvP will still only have 1 Game mode with ~4 “good” maps. I think, most peaple are already sick and tired of Conquest and playing the same maps over and over. So balancing and the rework system wont be enough for getting the players excited again, at least for long terms.
So, why will the next Update be a fail?
I have those 3 requirements. Every Bullet point mostly can be developed separately. Regarding this, it seems pretty unrealistic, that all of them will be finished at the same time.
Looking at the state of PvP and the critics, I don’t see a reasons, why ANet would publish one of those things, as soon as it is ready.
This finally means, that none of the things in my list is finished, yet and considering it unrealistic, that they all are finished at the same time, the next update probably wont include all 3.
However, as I already stated, why I would demand all of them, it means that the next update will be a fail. At least for me.
And I haven’t even mentioned concerns about the quality of the next balancing patch or the reward system.

You paid for it, you’re holding it, but it will only mature in 10 years.
Potential yields are very high, but the chance you get your investment back is miniscule.Truth be told.
There’s 1 difference:
Greece probably wont go under, thanks to support by the EU.
GW2 probably will.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
Honestly, I believe right now that the community could collectively balance the game faster and better than ANet could, if Anet put knobs into custom arenas to allow players to adjust the parameters for skills and traits.
You can do it. Hang in there, Justin! http://www.jokedujour.com/barn/hang-in-there.jpg
After watching “twitch plays pokemon”, I think, even this might be a more efficent way to balance the game, than ANet is handeling it.
First of all, I would realy appreciate it, if finanly mesmer gets a mantra which al least has a TYPE.
Do you mean an ELITE with a type?
Ty, fixed it.
As I wrote, an Elite Mantra would synergize a lot with traits, but there are the downsides on the other hand.
Just imagine Moa being an instant cast.
I know, you also have to charge the Mantra, however as it is an elite (→ long CD) you wont charge it that often. Which means the time and penalty implemented by this, decreases, while the fact, that you get an “instant elite” is pretty strong.
First of all, I would realy appreciate it, if finanly mesmer gets an elite which at least has a TYPE.
The Elites of Mesmer mostly are their own “type”.
All of our existing elites cant be altered by traits etc.
Eg. Necro has an elite minion, Ele has an elite summoned weapon, Thief has an elite poison, Warrior has an elite signet and an elite banner etc.
They all can alter their elites with their traits. And the elites perfectly blend into some builds.
As a Mesmer, you pretty much can use any elite with every build (except PU builds which needMass Invis.). Ok, this doesnt sound that bad, however, this roots not in the verstaility of those elites, it rootes in the fact, that there is almost NO synergy with special builds.
OK, getting a little bit more BTT:
I think a big problem of an Elite Mantra might be the way, mantras work.
Being able to use your elite on instant, giving the enemy very few ways to evade it, might be a little bit to strong.
On the other hand, you have to charge it first, which might also be a big minus for the players, as they might easily get interrupted.
Personally, I am also not a fan of “chaotic” stuff. In regards of being unreliable.
I use a skill in order to get a certain effect, not a range of possible effects.
Thats also the reasons I dont like staff, in particular Chaosstorm, that much. Chaosstorm is an awesome skill, but I want to know, when exactly e.g the interrupt appears.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
ANet already reacted to the problem with scepter auto attack.
By buffing scepter #2 and #3
ANet logics ftw!
My view of Anet get in the direction, that they probably are not even interesting in making people stay.
After they have bought the game, most players are just a stress for the servers -which means costs.
ANets profit increases, when the time the customers play decreases.
So why dealing with complaints? The more the people play, the more they cost ANet.
As long critics stay in the forums and dont scare potential new customers, they probably are fine.
Yes, there are microtransaction, but averaged over the total amount of players, that’s probably far less, than the earnings with the game sold.
Can you stun break out of a moa form?
Can you teleport away with moa form?
Can you use your invulnerability skills in moa form?
Can you gain stability in moa form?
Can you run away in moa form?
If #1-3 would be possible, moa would be probably the most useless elite in the game
#4: nope, but it also doesnt remove the stability you already have
#5: Yes, you can.
Besides, if you are already fighting in a 1 vs 1, you might already have used stuff like stunbreaks, teleports, stability or invulnerability.
Moa is ment to shut down a target, so you shouldnt complain about moa shutting down a target.
Please nerf this skill to the ground.
I was fighting a 1 v 1 when a glass mesmer came in and moa’d me straight away. Seriously, press to win button in this situation.
So you lost a 2 vs 1 in which at least 1 of your enemies used his elite?
Tell me more about this only happens against mesmers who use moa.
Every proper burst build might be able to destroy you when he attacks you in the right moment and you are already in a fight.
Dont you think, the outcome would have been the same if a engi would have come in and droped a supply crate on you?
Or a necro fearing you to death?
Or a thief attacking you? Maybe with basilisk venom or thieves guild?
Or just a warrior joining the fight?
etc.
Lets just make a little mind game:
If it is a 2 vs. 1 fight, where all players have the exact same level of “skill” and we ignore special “build vs. counterbuild”-situations.
It logically MUST be impossible for the 1 player to win against the 2 others.
Thus, “I lost a 2 vs 1” doesnt deliver any proper argument for or against anything.
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
In the end, the flaw of Moa is that it only targets a single person, on a very lengthy CD. Yes, it’s strong. It’s a 10s daze, in a way.
But it’s one target.
One target is a big difference in tPvP, this gives the opposing team a huge edge.
Isnt this basicly the point of every elite out there?
Warriors elite banner or rangers elite spirit are able to rezz their allies, the spirit can even rezz the ranger itself.
Plague form gives makes a necro a real pain in the kitten , especially when he is spaming blinds.
Engis suply crate is also usually rated as one of the best elites out there.
Within the CD of 1 moa skill, a thief is able to use basilisk venom 4 times. Applied at the right moment, it can also be very beneficial. Not to mention the synergy with lyssa runes or the fact that it is harder to evade than moa.
@Sensotix.4106
If you want greater transparency, like I do, then you must accept that dates, features, and plans are not a static promise.
But…istn this basicly, what transparency is about?
Telling the community what your plans are?
Whats the point of transparency, if everything said by ANet is basicly “worthless”?
If I understand you right, you want to be able to tell us anything without any “binding” to and be able to change the plans without telling the community.
No offense, but this game is now pretty much 1,5 years old.
There is no more hope or patience left.
Thats why (at least I) want clear information, provided regularly.
Balance is a mess and proper Balancing Patches tend to become the same kind of myth as Half life 3 is.
The way ANet deals with problems like Skyhammer exploit is awfull.
Now, you tend to make a complete overhaul of the PvP-reward system, probably without any thought about the compensation of the existing player base in regards of glory boosters for example.
The reason, I want transparancy and ACTUALLY HOLD pormisses, is as regarding how ANet deals with sPvP, it might be also possible, that the next patch might transform spvp into a GW2 version of “Barbie – the great pony farm adventures”.
Nobody knows what’s going on in the heads of the GW2 spvp-team, which probably consists out of a number of cats running across the keyboard or sleep most of the time.
biggest joke development i’ve ever seen . . . you have totally no idea what’s going on in PvP. Better leave the drowning ship before it’s too late.
Drowning ship?
ANet would never admit that.
They’d rather pretend, it’s a submarine!
Mesmers are getting some nice stuff.
Stay tuned.
Please specifiy this more:
Is this stuff coming in 2015 or 2016?
And is it actually “nice stuff” or this the same kind of “nice stuff” you implemented the last patches which either was useless or kittened up the game?
(edited by EverythingEnds.4261)
It’s an elite
It has a long casttime and 180s Cooldown
It can be interrupted, dodged or just fail by blinding the mesmer
It has 1 “escape skill”, the leap skill can also be usefull and you can use dodges
Minion Necros shouldnt complain, as a profession which is running around with its ELITE most of the time shouldnt complain about other elites
Thieves shouldnt complain, as they usually have the better cards against a mesmer and in addition, i think thieves guild isnt that much less strong than moa. Or if they use Basilisk venom, they have a stun, a complete condi remove and a total buff boost on a kitten CD thanks to lyssa runes.
A lot of Eles use glyph of elemental (or how is it called), making a 1 vs 1 fight into a 2 vs 1 fight.
Guardians: I only say: Aegis
In addition I’d like to mention, Mesmers elites suck in general, as they usally have very specific uses.
Mass invisibility and Time warp are usually only good if you are in a group fight, as in other scenarios (like 1 vs 1) they are just wasted.
Mass invisibility might be nice also in 1vs 1. However, a ~3s (?) CD on a 90s Cooldown is pretty bad in my opinion.
Moas best use is for killing a bunker or countering other players, however I’d instantly trade Moa for something like basilisk venom wich is basicly always usefull no matter what scale the combat is.
Yea, cause a review from the very beginning of GW2 is so up to date?
In the new progression system, all the PvP players that have played for 1.5 years will be Shark/Phoenix rank, with nearly all access to any skins that will carry over to the new system.
Uhm.
Are you sure about that?
I havent seen any phoenix rank yet and shark ranks also seem to be pretty rare.
And probably the ONLY skin which might actually be easier to get via sPvP than via PvE might be the Orr stuff.
There are weapons you can buy in PvE for ~ 1k Karma, while you need to be rank 50-60 for buying them in PvP.
In addition, there was never any kind of reward for the time played before the update which brought the tomes etc.
In addition, there’s a huge number of skins which are only available in PvE.
So how is the Skin transfer of those skins ment to happen?
It s less the problem that they break down the barrier, it is more like they seem to do it only in one direction.
It’s not like ANet doesnt understand.
It’s more like ANet doesnt give a kitten.
