So I havent played for a while, but since when is Mesmer one of the tankiest classes in this game? O.o
Since the start of the GW2 beta, since now, I havent seen any team running a “tank / bunker mesmer”. Bunker Mesmer is probably as viable as Bunker thief. If not even less.

And plz dont mention PU Mesmers.The problem with those definitifly is not their amount of Vigor Regeneration.
In Addition, DE and the vigor trait were there since the launch of the game and Shatter Mesmers also exist since an whole eternity.
And now, suddenly this is ment to be overpowered?
Mesmer hasnt seen a buff for a very long time, while other classes became strong, but though, Mesmers is the one who is OP now?

There are actually 3 Shatter related traits in the Inspiration line.

I think, this should be some how the “bunker” traitline.

The problems with this issue simply is:
Shatter builds (probably even a defensive one) NEED:
Deceptive Evasion and Illusionary Persona.
Thus, it is impossible to combine those 2 with Shattered Conditions.

In addition, I rly doubt that sth like a “shatter bunker” will exist, du to the simple facts, that bunkers should provide good support in groupfights. Groupfights means AoEs.
AoEs mean, that you illusions might die, before you can (defensifly) shatter them.

I’d love to see shattered Conditions for ~ 20 Points in the Illusions line. It is in my opinion a realy strong trait, however, it is placed somewhere, no shatter Mes might use it.

You’re arguement has dissolved into claiming that builds won’t change… from your responses It has become abhorrently clear that you are confusing builds with abilities.

No kitten that cc/ condi’s/ bunkers/ etc. will still exist… abilities won’t change… Embarassing that anyone should have to explain this to someone. See the differences between PvE, PvP, WvWvW. Builds/ gearing/ strategy are dramatically different (because of the end objective of the game is different in each) while the inherent abilities of classes are the same, SHOCKER, right?!

What you are failing to realize, or just arguing for argument’s sake; not wanting to admit you are wrong… is that builds would change, albeit minor in some instances. As you have actually already identified in this very thread.

CTF would greatly add to the strategic dynamics of this game that became very, very stale months ago.

And what more needs to be explained about CTF? There are two bases, each has a flag in it. You defend your flag and try and capture the other. O.o

All of those 4 basicly are things, I suppose almost nobody likes. They all are tied to another in my opinion, so they should all be brought down.

Eg:
AoE is good versus AI
AI leads to more spam
more spam leads to more evade
more evade makes it more necessary to spam and use AoEs

Ok, I ll stop criticising CTF, until there is a better defined type of CTF we are talking about.

So:

Are we talking about
CTF: 1 Flag, both teams fight for it, or about
CT2F: every team has its own flag, which they have to defend, while stealing the other one

Maybe they could make the flag a like the Hammer on the fractal with the giant.
So you ware only able to carry it for a limited time.

Ok, one last critizism:
Wouldnt we end up (like in conquest) with team, consisting out of a lot of bunkers?
Think about it:
Bunkers have the most Sustain and probably a lot of condi cleanse and team support.
Make 5 of them walk together, supporting each other, it will be hard to CC them, Condis (especially Cripple, Immobilize, Chill) might be cleansened and if there are 5 bunkers, they either can rez up each other easily, or they might be able, that at least one of them survives long enough for reaching the goal.

I don’t know where you’re getting that Thieves make bad orb carriers on Spirit Watch, the following…

S/D #3 (Flanking Strike)
15 Acrobatics
Vigorous Recovery (10 in Acrobatics)
Withdraw
Roll for Initiative
Signet of Agility

… combined makes the most OP orb carrier I’ve ever played. Seriously, just try it out sometime, you’ll be amazed how fast you get there while evading the entire time.

-Even more Zerging, as there is only one flag, while there are 3 Capture points in Conquest
-You are forced to attack the bunker: In conquest, you can either avoid the capture point with the toughest bunker (yea I know, those days, bunkers are everywhere…), or at least in a team fight, you can kill his teammates first and finish the bunker last. However in CTF, if the bunker carries the flag, you are almost forced to attack the toughest one in their team, cause you need the flag.

Also, make plz some example how CTF builds will be different from Conquest builds?
CC: Still strong, as you can lock down ppl or knockback /pullback the carrier/the chasers.
Stability: Still strong, to prevent CC.
Conditions: Maybeeven stronger in CTF, as cripple and chill will slow down the carrier.
Burst: To kill the carrier the fastest way possible.

I usally feel bad when using Moa.
I generelly try to fight without me elites, at least in 1 vs 1 situation, as I find it somehow cheap to use those hyper-cd-skills (as long as u rnt playing thief ) in a simple 1 vs. 1.

However, when facing necros, especially MMs whos elite is active almost the whole time, I dont feel that bad when I moa them.

Btw, as long as an AI build like MM is in such a good place, I also dont feel bad, when there is at least one big counter to them.

No class has a button that destroys a whole build with 1 button usable in stealth. What if a necro had a single button, when pressed it made it so you couldn’t make clones/phantasms for 30 seconds. You’d be livid…

But before this, Mesmer would have to become viable again.
Btw, is it possible to land a good shatter onto a Necro in plague form spaming blinds?
Probably not. So…this might be your counter xD.

But Warriors? Imo Warriors dont rely on lyssa, they just use it, as it is one of the best runes in the Game.

I dont have any problems with Ctf, but I dont think, if you know right from the beginning, that a Game mode / map wont be competitive in any way, so you only can publish it for hot join, you should rly think about if it is worth the effort of creating it.

But Colin sounds like the only reason, we dont have seen any new gamemodes (as long as you dont count Skyhammer Golf as an Gamemode) since Launch is, that they have some ideas but “there might be a even better new game mode out there”.

Those ppl gave us freakin’ Skyhammer!

And now they say, they want to make sure, to give us “what works best”?
If under this agenda Skyhammer was created,
I dont even want to think about, what “works worst” would be.

The fact that they still are “exploring all game mode options”, even if other game modes were announced pre launch, I m asking myself what those guys have done the last year.

Look how unbalanced the abilities to carry the orb on Spirit Watch around.
Do you realy want a whole Game mode based on this?

CtF might actually become Skyhammer2, as one of the big negativ aspects, always listet up witch Skyhammer is the bad distribution of “essential” skills (aka Knockbacks, fear, etc).
The Orb on Spiritwatch basicly provides the same.
Even ANet “admited” in the Ready up Stream, that it might be unbalanced. As long as they wand a Warrior (this isnt ment to be Warrior hate) to have the charactersitics of being “sturdy”, it means, that he might be a better choice for carrying the orb / flag.

Ever watched an average Thief* / Mesmer carrying an orb?
Probably not, as they either die withing seconds or drop the orb as soon they use one of their CLASSMECHANICS.

*I m saying average, not some “special orb carry thief-build”

You are simply running around in hotjoin an knock people, from which a lot play obviously rly awfull, off the map.

Those aren’t even some funny/skilled kills. Just total average stuff.

Everybody already knows, it is easy to knock ppl down.

It was a little bit over the top for my taste.
I dont mind if they try to make the stream more fun, or if they have fun, but the main purpose of the stream should be the information.
For example they almost got the Mesmer forum lightet on fire, as they didnt make clear, how they nerf Deceptive Evasion. A lot of ppl thought, they would make it only work if you dont have clones up.

What I’m also asking myself is, why we always have to watch the devs. Cant they give us ingame footage or sth like this?
e.g. I’d prefer to see the new Pin Down Animation, instead of John Sharp staring right into the camera like a psycho going to murder you ( ).

Having to unlock things in pvp is awfull.

When the new heals came out, I rly would have liked to test them, especially, you usually not only want to know your own skills, but alos the skills of your enemies / other classes.
But If you want to test them, you have to buy them.
In the past, if you had problems with fighting certain classes / specs, you simply created on of those and played it, in order to know how it works.

Let’s say, the new OP build will be A.E.D-engi. (just an random example)
I cant simply create one, I also have to spend 25 Skillpoints on a profession, might not even play very much. So whats the use of this unlock-sh*d?

I’d rly like some details about the nerf.

Does it rely on the number of clones, or on the number of illusions?

So, if I have 1 Phantasm and 2 clones, will i “override” one of the other clones?

What ANet probably doesnt consider with this nerf, is strategic clone positioning. Maybe You have 3 clones up, but you want one on your current location, so you dodge.

@ ANet: AT least make you changes only apply, if the Mesmer is using clone death-traits in his build.
…or maybe give DE an effect, if no clone is spawned. A little heal, one stack of might, or sth like this…or a condi remove (ok, this one would be too strong)

And jep, in the first place, it rly sounded like DE only triggers if no clones are up.

Btw, pretty funny that PU-abuse wasnt mentioned, or any buff for Mesmer.

In my opinion EVERY map in this game is fine, as long as both teams have chances to set up their team for that one map.

Spiritwatch in Soloq depends to much if you are lucky and get “good” professions.

Besides, I think it requires A LOT mor coordination than the other conquest maps.
Dealing with the orb usually requires a lot of coordination. Not everybody of your team is able to carry it “well” and if nobody guards him, he might get focused down by the other team. On the other hand, you might not be able to deal (fast enough) with your enemy, carring the orb, if only a single player attacks him.

In addition, it is realy unbalanced, how the orb mechanic works, considering the capabilites of some classes in carrying it.

Mesmer needs a buff like a fish needs a bicycle.

I don´t main a lvl. 80 mesmer, but I know the basics of the class. I play an ele(when there is a class which needs buff, it´s elementalist after we got nerfed to the ground) and everytime I encounter a mesmer it´s gonna be tough. Especially the shatter builds will bring my ele down to 10% of life within two seconds [F1](it´s crazy). F1 has a 10 sec cooldown…eles defensive skills have 75 sec(mist form), 40 sec(teleport), 90 sec(armor of earth).

Mesmers are in a good, no, very good position right now.

Tbh, rating a class about its capabilities of killing eles is probably no good idea atm.
Besides, Fresh air ele is also able to devastate a mesmer withing seconds.

They could fix nr 5 by giving players the option to instantly kill themselves when they’re downed. If you know no one is going to be able to ress you, might as well just throw in the white flag and start that respawn timer asap.

This is the same idea I had and I think, this might be a good idea.

In addition, ANet might add:

A “Disable Downed State”-Option for private Arenas.

By the amount of “instant suicieds” in downedstate and the use of this option, It might be possible to see if the majority of palyers likes/uses downedstate or doesnt like it.

In addition, we have still a huge imbalance in the effectiveness of downedstate, which is another thing to consider.
The #1 skills of the classes have big differences in the damage they deal, also some classes have abilities to heal / rezz themselves.
e.g.:
Ranger #3 (most OP downedstate ability i know)
Guard #3 Heal
Necro and Guard #1 heal
Furthermore,
The #2 skills of all classes have huge differences when it comes to its efficiency and as long as the only game mode is Conquest, it also doesnt seem fair, that some classes can “move” in downedstate (Ele, thief, mesmer with a big random factor).
Regarding this, it also doesnt seem fair that lanches move downed enemies, while other CC does not. I’d prefer if downed players could not be moved by any skill.

So there are a lot of problems with downed state which should get fixed, but in general, I actually like it, so I m for a fix or mandatory disable of it.

As I already said, I m no friend of AoE spam, but you suggestion is just a bad idea.

In addition, AoE is a good counter messure to AI builds.
So if you tone down AoE spam without also dealing with AI, AI builds will become even more “stronger” in a relative way, as there are less countermessures.

But your Idea seems looks awefull.

Assuming you meant to say “Your idea is awful”; I ask you why do you think so?

Sry fore the wird sentence.

You first should give us more details about your idea of “friendly fire”:
Are talking about:
Implementing friendly fire for every skill?
for every aoe, including cleave?
for every field?

The next issue is:
As the title already says, the issue aren’t the aoes themselfes, it is the AoE SPAM.
For decreasing spam, methods could be: higher cooldowns, decreased durations or just a reduce in the acces to aoes for some professions.

Implementing friendly fire would harm a lot of “skilled” play.
E.g. Engi smoke bomb + toolbelt bomb -stealth
It might also harm shatter Mesmers (just imagine if they would also hit their own team). In addition, what’s with necros death shroud #4 and #5? Those skills arent usually the top example for AoE spam. However they would get affected by your suggestion. But every necro uses those skills, so basicly you would harm all of them.

In addition, what about those aoes which already affect allies and enemies? e.g. marks, symbols, chaos storm or null field?

The random passive stuns (Shocking Aura, Engie stuns) going through I can live with, but retal is simply baffling to me.

This is one of the worts issues in my opinion.
Especially the fear of nightmare rune.
It simply sucks to get feared out of it and maybe even die to this, as you arent able to complete your damage rotation.
The fear of the runes rewards players who dont react (fast enough) and punish you for landing your own skills.

Everything with Skyhammer is ok. Nobody ever farmed or absued it. Otherwise Anet would immediatly have jumped in and punish exploiters like they do in PvE! Or they would let their frequent pvp updates (which are awesome) contain some countermesures.

It’s not even like all classes don’t have a good way of knocking people on that map:

  1. Necromancer – Fears, Grasp
  2. Engineers – Not enough characters to fit this.
  3. Warriors – Hammer, Stomp, Kick, Fear Me
  4. Thieves – Stealth Pulls, Stealing From Necromancers, Traps on glass
  5. Mesmer – Focus, Greatsword, Reflecting certain pulls
  6. Ranger – Longbow (SO STRONG!), counter attack, path of scars
  7. Guardians – Not enough characters to fit this.
  8. Elementalist – Gale, Immobilizing on glass, Updraft, TORNADO!

Great! Now make the same list with the access to stability plz.
Then, make one with AoEs, as they are extremly strong, especially, when fighting on the canon.
Furthermore, plz make a list about the stuff you can place right on the exit of the portal on canon to immediatly dmg attackers, like marks and turrets.

In addition, you also dont cover stuff like bad distribution of bunkers via the MM system.

Every map in sPvP, even Capricorn is “balanced” if you have to preset teams, knowing, which map they will play, so that they can base their team setup up on the requirements of the map.
But throwing 10 random players on a map for which it is essential to alter your build or even to change your profession, is a realy bad idea.

Because people who only join halfway or near the end and thus participate less should get less? Because if all you do is farm Skyhammer youd still get 15 silver per game instead of like 5 or smthing?

You shouldnt get big amounts of gold for joining a game when it is already 400 -350 or something like that.

And winning a match “fast”:
Yes, maybe you did an axcellent job when you manage to win fast, however, if you are able to win fast, this also could mean the game is not balanced.
So you also shouldnt be rewareded just because it is 5* rank 40-50 vs 5* rank 1-10

Best way to defend Treb

I have the same problems. To be honest, it rly sucks, that it seems so easy for some professions, just to show up, ignore the defendant, kill the treb and kitten off.

Besides, you forgott Sword/X thief, staying “below” the treb and than use Sword #2, port up, make somehits (maybe even pistol whips) port back and repeate this.

What I encountered and works ok, is just to switch to Sword, or to use shatters. (Chaos storm should also work good, as the dazes might stop them from damaging the treb).

Has anybody else issues with dodges?
It happens to often, that I dodge (withanmation and stuff) but still get the dmg of an attack, while I am already dodgeing.

Another thing I encountered, are Immobilizes, which hit the target, “while” it is dodging.
Shouldnt this be impossible? Either the Immobilize hits, which means the target cant dodge, or the doge comes first, so the target wont get immobilized.

I play thiefs far less, than I m fighting them, however, I think an issue could be, that thiefes usally have such a high amount of evades or stealth, that giving them also stability (in a higher amount than lyssa runes + basilis venom do) might cause imense problems fighting them.

Landing a stun/daze on a thief gives you some kind of control and a chance of putting some damage onto this constantly disappearing or evading thing jumping around you.

The problem is there are a lot of traits that upgrades glamour skills, so if TW was a glamour skill, full traited would be OP.

TbH. I don’t understand, why Anet makes some Elites a certain category and others not.

An Area Blind + 1-3 Stacks of confusion + the general TW effect actually dont look to strong for me, If you consider the still very long cooldown and the massive traiting you would have to require to alter TW.

You need
20 in Domination for Confusion on enter / leave
20 in Inspiration for CD reduction and duration increase
20 in Illusions for Blind + Blind→Confusion

As far as I know, since the confusion nervs, Confusion Mesmers arent anymore popular in WvW anyway.
