dom/chaos/chrono PU power shatter definitely works but I would prefer dom/illusion/chrono power shatter for more burst and utility.

Otherwise you can go for chaos/illusion/chrono condition shatter. But I don’t think it is as strong as the meta inspiration/illusion/chrono variant.

It has very strong skills. Being a bit clunky makes it balanced. Giving it both strong effect and easy usage is not a good idea.

Also, don’t forget it is already meta weapon for guardian in PvE and WvW.

Hi there,

First, here’s the a recent post on the topic:

With the start of Season 4, we’ll be returning to Season 1’s style of matchmaking which focuses on creating the most balanced teams from the players queueing within your pip range. This change may widen the skill range of players in each division, but we feel that increased match quality is worth the trade-off of reduced prestige for this season. During Season 2 and 3 we added two league features that greatly impacted your ability to climb: start-of-season division placement based on previous season performance and win/lose streak pips, and both of these features will remain enabled for Season 4.

Season 4 matchmaking is already using MMR to create the most balanced teams possible. Teams are no longer “stacked” as they were in Season 2 and 3.

The problem (that we’re solving for S5) is that we’re currently searching for players close to your division to match you against. This means that the pool of players that we can pull from to create a match is much smaller than if we were using the entire pool of players. A player may have a high-enough MMR to put them in the top 100, but if they’re in Sapphire they’re only going to get matched with players that are in or around Sapphire. Season 5 will use the entire pool of players for creating matches – this should help the system create more balanced matches and improve queue times.

As for the “forced 50/50”, there’s nothing on the backend that forces a certain win-rate. This is a byproduct of your MMR settling.

Hopefully things can start go better from now on.

I don’t feel like playing pvp anymore and only played 6 games total and still in sapphire. The queue is long(even in sapphire) and after the long queue you have a good chance of getting some kittenty games. I have completed the wing reward achievement back in season 2. There is simply no incentive to play when there is neither reward or fun involved.

Is D/D Cele Ele still good for WvW?

It is decent but not great. Scrapper and druid are better bruisers at the moment.

To make a d/d work, you need to spend some time optimizing your stats. Don’t go for full cele. You will lack damage to take out even the squishy enemies. You want to mix in marauder/crusader for better damage. Then use the durability runes which covers both your defense and boon duration.

The best traitline choice, I think, is water/arcana/tempest. Water/earth/tempest also works, but it is better for support purpose. For 1v1, you need a bit more damage to win fights.

Whether it is solo queue or competitive level play, mesmer’s power mostly relies on good moa and portal play now.

Two patches ago, condition mesmer was the king of 1v1s(only lost to trap DH which was out of meta). So you could pretty much just push into every 1v1 you see. Portal and moa are just icing on the cake.

But now you will struggle with a lot of 1v1s. DH is our hard counter. Scrapper, Druid, Staff thieves are hard matchups. Power/Condition warrior is even fight. The only easy 1v1s are against reaper, dp thief and revenant. But none of these three were built for any 1v1s.

Best mes build for killing DH?

Do not swap build. Condition mesmer is the best build for mesmer in PvP.

You can still beat a DH if you play perfectly(you need perfect Moa burst) or the DH is complete noob. But it is very unlikely to happen. So instead of fighting them, you need to learn to outrotate them. DH does not have great mobility. They are not particular good when they are transitioning between nodes.

As a mesmer, you have a portal and good mobility through blink/phase retreat. Utilize those tools to your max advantage.

Dragonhunter is in a great state.
It actually has multiple viable builds for competitive PvP. So I’d say we can leave the class alone.

Now it is time to work on other classes so they also have more than one viable build that can be played

Its biggest counter is good rotation which rarely exists in random queue.

Warrior will be extremely strong because of adrenal health.
Ranger can be strong with stealth trapper.
Condition mesmer will still be very strong against any non-condition build without inspiration.

The Bow string for the new storm bow looks so smooth and a natural part of the bow.

On the other hand the bow string for Kudzu feels so immersion breaking. I don’t even want to zoom on my character because of the ugly bow string.

It is now clear the devs are fully capable to making customized bow strings for different bows. Kudzu, as a legendary, is well deserved of such treatment.

Ele is probably a more versatile class with emphasize on damage dealing(especially in PvE group content). It is the best power dps class currently in the game but also has plenty of nice utilities.

In WvW, ele can fulfill multiple roles. Good at dealing damage, healing allies, providing area control.

In both PvE and WvW, chronomancer is mostly utilized as a support role and quite good at that. Remember base mesmer is pretty worthless and you absolutely need chrono for the class to shine.

In PvE, you focus on supporting team with alacrity and quickness to maximize group dps. You also have a few other nice utilities like distortion, reflect, portal to back it up.

In WvW group fight, you are best at sharing boons with your allies. WvW group fight is always dominated by cleaving damage and ground target skills. Chronomancer also has a few good ones in this regards(gravity well, timewarp, null field). But you are kinda weak in damage dealing. You can also solo or small group roam with chronomancer. The class is quite strong in that regard.

Season 4 Ranked Matchmaking Change

They need to change the way you advance in leagues.
Just win/loose is a terrible way and get people stuck or carried over…

There needs to be added bonus/penalties by individual performance.
– caps, decaps, defense, dmg, healing, finishers, ress…

There needs to be a way to climb if you are consistently better than your team, even if you loose the match, and to fall if you are consistently pulling your team down even if they are winning.

There is no efficient algorithm to measure individual skill in a match. There would have to be a lengthy equation to calculate all of this…

…blocks, blinds, damages mitigated from all players, timed cc during a stomp, Was it effective? Half effective? Heals given. Heals were effective but that was all you offered…?

I could write a 50 page novel on what items needs to count, tallied up points using a metric system, mix some boolean in there and slap its rear end and call it good. But… too much coding work for something that may or may not be 100% efficient because after all that work, you’ll always miss some strategy that’s effective but isn’t added in the algorithm

It’s so easy to say “just do it”.

They will need a sophisticated machine learning system to figure out how to judge individual performance. Just like alpha go…

correct me if im wrong, u wanted to make pvp prestigious but also going back to season 1 MM? if any of u know season 1 match making forces players into a 50/50 W/L ratio. u might say whats wrong with that? well for starters anyone can grind to legendary even the very bad players. remember those players posting SS of 200+ or 400+ games and doesnt even made it to legendary? well imagine all those guys will now be in legendary. a former guildie of mine who’s somewhat horrible at pvp made it to legendary during season 1 through sheer number of games played. but during season 2 and 3 he get stuck in lower diamond. ur now saying i have to play with all these players who keep saying they in MMR HELL? you should stop playing once your in legendary is what i get in this post.

You didn’t read carefully.

They say they want closer games over prestige this season. So enjoy trying to carry those bad players this season. It is a prestige in itself being able to carry bad players game after game.

Why can’t you make the pip gain the same as season 1 as well?

If you combine the matchmaking from season1 and pip gain from season 2/3, this will definitely be the most grindy season for players who want to reach legendary.

The only plus side is that Helseth’s stream will be very fun this season, watching him frustrated on carrying bad players.

This is actually the exact problem.

The premade team has huge disparity in their coordination and team work. But the MM will always give the same MMR compensation for a premade. This makes match involving premade team highly volatile.

You simply need to join a less-restrictive squad.

The squad commander has his own preference. It is not a discrimination. The commander has his own right to assemble a squad he likes to lead.

But I don’t know if I’d pick an ele over an engi or a druid in current meta. Engi and druid has better mobility and 1v1 potential and more utility.

The weapon now has great burst after the 2skill bounce change.

It still has trash sustained damage because GS1 has outdated mechanics and the base damage is not even as good as ranger staff1.

It has some utility in skill3 and 5 but overall just mediocare.

It is still the weapon I would go for in a bursty build but I won’t use it in other types of builds. Our bursty spec is viable in WvW in a skillfull hand. Below-average but playable in PvP.

The amulet I am currently using is the new seeker’s amulet(power precision ferocity concentration). It may not be the best choice. Marauder/Destroyer/Berserker all have their merit.

I don’t think there is enough there to encourage power Mesmers. If there is, it’ll be “emergency nerfed” very quickly. I have no confidence that a strong power shatter build would be permitted in the game.

It was “permitted” in the game for years before HoT introduced us to a tournament viable condi build. I was hoping that the condi build would be nerfed out of the meta and power be brought into it so we could get some skill infused back into this dying game.

Anet failed.

I don’t see any bursty power build be in the meta other than thief and revenant.

Even with bunker ele being removed, no other glassy build can hold its own against the onslaught from thief and revenant. These two classes have better mobility and sustain to shut down all other glassy build.

At the same time, glassy power build has no chance against bruiser/condition build in a 1v1.

Thief is No.1 for me
Always been and still the most fun and capable roamer. The ability to quickly finish a struggling opponent is invaluable in the heavy sustain meta. You can escape pretty much any situation if played carefully. Can also 1v1 most specs you see on battleground.

Druid Warrior Mesmer
Very strong 1v1 ability, great mobility, can fight in almost all situations.

No.5
Scrapper
Strong 1v1. Tons of utility. But lacks a bit of damage. Top tier if roaming with some more bursty teammates.

No.6
Revenant
Works better in small groups. Too vulnerable to conditions. But can still solo roam with a lot of mobility and burst.

No.7
Elementalist
Solid 1v1er but severely lacks mobility. Any one can escape from you if they are losing the fight. Also works better as a supporter in a group.

No.8
Guardian
Has good burst but also lacks mobility. Also loses 1v1 to all the good sustain specs.

No.9
Necromancer
Decent fighter but has almost no escape mechanics. If you can’t even escape a zerg, you are not a solid roamer. But can still work with a group though

Having said that, you just need to play whatever class it is you play smart. Understand who you are fighting, their animations, and then you will see the enemy dead. Key to Druid is knowing when to CC. This is no different than when you are fighting other classes.

In fact, it is the single most frustrating thing when playing a Druid. Smart use of CC means you are one dead mother kittener.

To be honest, current druid is not that susceptible to CC. We have multiple good stun-breaker skills.

For example, my utility bar consists of signet of renewal, protect me and glyph of equality. They are all good stunbreakers with reasonably low CD. There is also this ultimate reset button called celestial avatar form that breaks stun when traited. In addition, I can get pulsing stability from Strength of the Pack.

All of these together makes it actually quite hard to lock down a druid.

They can easily swap greatsword to longbow with similar spec.
They can resist power burst pretty well due to protective ward.
Slow condition damage is useless because they have good healing and can cleanse all of them by entering celestial avatar form.
They also have good escape due to multiple access to stealth, swiftness/superspeed and movement skill.

To take one down, you need to chain CC lockdown and burst them to death before they enter celestial avatar form.

The game in China mostly attracts two types of audience
1. Ppl who like traditional grindy MMORPG
2. Ppl who like large-scale combat, they enjoy playing the WvW mode.

However, GW2 is not doing that well in either of these areas. There is not enough shinies for players to grind for in PvE and the WvW mode lacks supporting and balancing.

Both are bad choice to rotate into a 1v1 against scrapper.

Necromancer is very easy to get +1’d and kill quickly.

Mesmer is not good at standing on point against scrapper(a lot of on-point pressure) and fight takes very long. You can see that in WTS final, PZ actively trying to rotate an engi to fight TCG mesmer while TCG mesmer tries to use superior mobility to outrotate engi.

MMR is not the culprit of bad games. The matchmaking algorithm is.

Frankly, I don’t understand your problem. You can’t kill anybody with this build. Just walk on the trap, cleanse your condis, and move on.

But it seems so many ppl enjoy this build and play it.
It is basically a big annoyance once you encounter one and kinda forced to change map…

It is very clear a static server system is no longer working for the WvW game mode.
Server linking is just a band-aid solution to make it semi-dynamic.

Population wins in GW2 ever since the stab nerf. A small group can try to discourage a map blob but ultimately once the inner goes down just run. Also the PPK system encourages avoiding larger groups altogether.

It is always numbers even before stab nerf. It is not just zerg play but also roaming.

There were groups of larger than 5 all running roaming builds doing nothing but hunting down other solo/duo roamers. Ppl obviously found it fun to just win by numbers.

Rev was used 100%, so pretty balanced aswell as ele was necessary in every win. Thief had a winrate of about 14% i think. The team using a necro lost 88% of the games and won 12%. Seems like chill is still over the top and warr needs some huge buffs.

You are a very talented statistician to see so much from a sample size of 10 games.

It is actually pretty optimal for WvW.
But if you want to get into raids, I suggest full berserker.
