Can we also assume that WPs are controlled by the Captain’s Council? Ellen Kiel promised us reduce prices and I don’t see other way of doing that. Don’t believe she owns them…

They are controlled and owned by the Arcane Council – the asura government.

Kiel negotiated with them lore wise to reduce the costs.

Also there invention was in the Destinies Edge book. Snaffs portal device they used to get to Crystal desert and what Logan used to run away taking there only escape route with him.

Scarlet's ultimate goal still unrevealed(?)

At least, I now strongly believe this is the case. And I think her story is not yet finished either. There are a lot of still unanswered questions, and a lot of things continuously stated as fact though… it isn’t. Anyways, I’ll break this down into four topics: The Entity, The Dragon(s) Involvement, Scarlet’s Probes, and Caithe’s Secret. In said order.

The Entity’s Identity is Still Unknown
A lot – almost everyone – have been outright believing that the Entity has been Mordremoth. Or Mordremoth’s champions. People seem hellbent on making the sylvari-Mordremoth connection that they took the waking of Mordremoth to mean that he, or his champion, was what was talking to Scarlet’s mind.

But we have no evidence for this. Yes, Scarlet woke Mordy up, but nothing really indicates that Mordy or its champions was what talked to Scarlet. We know, quite literally, nothing about the entity except that:

  1. It first entered Scarlet’s mind when she entered Omadd’s Isolation Module (see: A Study in Scarlet).
  2. It only talked to her in her dreams at first, and grew stronger over time (see: Scarlet Briar’s Journal). But overtime talked to her when awake (see: A Study in Scarlet and battle on the Breachmaker).
  3. Was continuously warring for Scarlet’s mind (see current Pale Tree dialogue).
  4. And finally, it showed her images of death, destruction, and destiny.

None of this points to the sole case of “Elder Dragon” or “dragon champion”. In fact, I would argue that A Study in Scarlet reduces the chances of this. Here’s why:

Scarlet Briar: Ever since I came out of Omadd’s machine, you’ve been taking credit for my ideas. They are mine! Not yours.

Right, so, what are “her ideas” that the entity was taking credit for? Every single thing Scarlet did required modern technology. How could something that is still sleeping and has been sleeping for 10,000 years know about modern things? It would be like someone who’s been in a coma since 1980 knowing how to work a smartphone and knowing about 911 upon waking. It just doesn’t happen.

On the flip side, they really are her ideas and the entity is actually trying to take credit for it – as a mind game. But that doesn’t fit Elder Dragon corruption effects of any other Elder Dragon. And while each dragon may corrupt differently, it doesn’t match the shared persona of taking things and destroying what cannot be taken (as opposed to taking credit for things not theirs). The Elder Dragons are too large, too high above the wee little ants called “Tyrians” to bother taking credit for their “ideas”.

So either the entity is an individual who was awake to know modern events – such as dredge sonic technology, or the inquest which known to be fairly modern (within 200 years), and other such things. Or we got the first Elder Dragon who apparently breaks the mold of all other Elder Dragons.

Her ultimate goal was to die so she succeeded. Pale tree only one who knew what was happening in that head of hers thanked us afterwards. Though she could be lying.

When I pass through Lion’s Arch I can’t help but think for a moment that somehow I failed. It’s like I played the game and lost. Obviously I have no influence over the story, but it still feels like I should have done more.

good question though is how can you feel like you failed when you never had a chance to succeed? I like how the play loss of npc life this time it was completely missed in queens juballie and why people though scarlet was cartoony the entire time. When she kill everyone in the audience. We only where able to save 3 people out of the entire stadium. Now if “Gwens” dead body was there i think people would care a lot more.

If Mordremoth has the power of plants, then it makes sense that Sylvari are in someway inexplicably linked to his power simply by their very nature as a plant. They are plants, he has dominion over plants.

Omadd is not a plant… Mordremoth is not an asura based dragon. God knows what that would look like.

I’m sorry but that is a silly assumption. Jormag is the dragon of ice but not all ice related creatures fall into its base control or are even linked to it. From what I have seen in game dragons don’t care what they are corrupting as long as they can corrupt it, Sylvari being immune to those known corruptions.

Well it was explained pale tree put up mental barriers to prevent her children being corrupted. You get corrupted you die. Omadd machine disabled the barriers which then allowed Scarlet to be corrupted.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Fafnir.5124

People ask for realism but do you really want it? Every time your character dies you get a tombstone, lose all items and have to start from level 1. The leveling system here is easy enough where they could probably do it too.

I ask you what would be the point of getting extra personnel to defend lions arch when scarlet has a cannon that can wipe entire maps out. Ya sending infantry and fleets after someone who tosses around atomic bombs is really going to be so effective. Also i think a lot of people don’t know this but captains counsel are all pirates who are really only in it for themselves. Try pulling the loot away from a pirate is probably not likely to happen when he is alive. Before you start arguing about LS read up on the lore first. What most hurts people isn’t really the content but the disconnect between GW1 and 2. So many unanswered questions that people are waiting to be answered hence why the four winds was one of the most hyped up events. It had the strongest GW1 connection.

If one of scarlets groups was the separatists it would have made sense why she attacked the queen…This is just speculation but mabe she did that to get them on her side to form another duo of alliances. Lucky we foiled it and didn’t get 1 more month of scarlet. I still think problem with scarlet was delivery i mean she could have been talked about in one of the asura personal story quests if she is the highest graduate of all the asura colleges.

In GW1 lore was well defined where as in GW2 they are more interested in establishing modern events and making current history then back tracking on older more established stories. But I think this really does fit to the audience of GW2. I mean really how many of us watch the news? I like how maps are getting new vistas and points of intrest where all the scarlet events where the map reflects past events that honestly cant be said for most games.

Once the start pulling out the dragons I honestly don’t think a lot will complain. When there are LS back and forth invasion pushes with front lines and everthing.

Mini dungeons->raid content

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fafnir.5124

Fafnir.5124

For those who do not know there are 18 mini dungeons in GW2 each with there own unique aspects. Some even have very rich story content. The something already established in game that can be easily used for guild dungeons runs with multiple squads.

Anet just needs to up the difficulty and the reward and we will have open map dungeons or even have at entrance a difficulty setting(based on number of people) which sets it till it is cleared and have rewards scale based on difficulty.

Are Krait going to finish building a second tower of nightmare in Timberland falls could make a nice dungeon raid?

This would implement models that are already in game and would be much easier to roll out then the LS updates. Any way this also will help disperse the population more and would break the repation of current gw2 events. It will give guilds something else they can do together other then guild missions too. Even if you made the rewards entirely guild center merits and influence in large amounts a lot of people would do it.

Also, Anet cant send children into battle apparently hens can’t design children adventurers.

Your first sentence ruined your credibility for this post.

So have you seen the patch notes today? Half of it is on new gem store items….BTW it it makes you feel any better being the judge of my credibility then be it….

I think he was talking about you using we instead of I. an individual can only speak about their opinions in arguments and imposing there opinion on others weakens there arguments. The saying that all assumptions are incorrect including this one is prity accurate. Also if you want to strengthen your argument about this poll the community and try to kill LS if you want. U got no statistics backing you.

But Anet are using the game statistics to determine what players want and give it to them.

This was a critique on how you argue not what you argue

I think Anet put the Climax in the wrong spot. But i think people are grouping the living story events wrong, That scarlets should be put in one set and others like Teq and four winds should be placed in a separate living story grouping occuring simultaneously.

For people who don’t know everything in LS comes back as fractals so it is all permanent content we will eventually get. So idea that all LS content is temp simply isn’t true. Anyway you cant diss something coming when you don’t know what is coming and I think there is a positive trend in LS quality and if it persists it should be pretty interesting.

You don’t even need a full map to do events and to many people will scale events to where they can not be done. So I ask you what is worse being afk at the gate or a safe zone or being afk at an events. Towards completion. Therefore we should report everyone who is downed and doest waypoint. Why cant a guild then report people not in there guild to get them kicked from the event. You opened the fricking door and this is what will happen. 100% garentte it. And for the record these are currently bannable offenses.

And the event is 1 hour long so i think people should be able to go afk if they got to take a kitten or rest there hand from mad button pressing.

My be they are fricking reading up on the evets on how to do them.

Maybe they want to get there map completion done and looking how to get somewhere

You cant force people to do what you want cause everyone is init for themselves. hence the zerging for drops instead of event completion.

Great event - too bad about all of the bots

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Fafnir.5124

Fafnir.5124

What is great about the entire argument is that you can get 1200 with only 30 people if you just disperse and rez citizens. The only reason you fail is because of zerging and scaling of events which I think is a much greater issue. That Anet doesn’t know how to scale events.

I bet 100% of people who are complaining where with zerg with a loot stick

We where able with a zerg of 100 collect all 40 relecks at reset and still get 1200. So your argument about afks and bots really hold no water.

The fundamental reason is it is more rewarding to zerg and scale events then to win which has always been a problem with living story events with a timer attached to it. Since the scarlet invasions Anet really has never address this.

An they do have an afk kicking code if you are inactive more then 5mins-10mins or so. Put the people you are talking about are actively afk. And if you give kicking power to hands of players large guilds will kick others for a solo guild run. So I don’t really see how any of your solutions are really addressing this aspect of it.

True problem with LS is people don’t read about event mechanics then complain its too hard or we cant get the coordination. Expecting to win with minimal effort. And Anet doesn’t roll that way.

Beneath Lion's Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Fafnir.5124

Fafnir.5124

First I have never player Gw1 so my lore is only touch and go with what i can gather.

If Scarlet is drilling for something I figure it would be a good idea to look back towards gw1 to see what was in the depths of Tryia 250 years ago for hints of what elder dragon would be down there. I found there was a quest that was the precursor for Eye of the North missions. Caverns primarily filled with destroyers as well as the portal that teleports to eye of the north. Also it is a destroy army you run away from so it might still be there with no opposition for 250 years.

ref:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Beneath_Lion%27s_Arch

The argument of which dragon might be there Prim or Mordy this would certainly lean towards Prim as far as lore goes.

If this was already mentioned I apologize, just thought it might be a great predictor of what might be next.

The drill raises the question of what is beneath lion’s arch and where better to look then gw1.

Where did you get that idea? All the main characters survived… but of course they all knew the attack was coming so that makes sense.

Otherwise we only saved ~1500 people lore wise. Since the city has a population of ~50,000 I’d say that quite a few people died…

Let’s not forget the enemy casualties… I’m pretty sure i’ve killed more aetherblades then come countries have people.

I’m just wondering how Lion’s Arch even had a population of 1500 before let alone 50k, there couldn’t have been more than 2 dozen residential buildings in the whole city.

Consider what percent of population is military force. How many lion guard do you see and speculate on how many citizens it takes to support that kind of military. and from that you can get a rough size of LA population.

Just craft it with a character who is an armorsmith or leatherworker. Problem solved there. You don’t need to do it with a tailor.

What if tailoring is all I got? This event is time limited and it is way too late to start levelling up leatherwork now.

Too late for what??
You can level leatherworking from 0-500 in under 2 hours!!

Sir, will you pay for my gold?

If you don’t have or cannot farm enough gold to level leatherworking, then you have more problems than crafting this back-piece, mate ..

Read properly ‘If you’re not a hardcore farmer, screw you.’

A hundred gold is A LOT to a casual player with a job a family and other responsibilities.

Posted by: Fafnir.5124

Fafnir.5124

Luckily the main story isn’t very good so missing it is not as bad is it could be. Imagine if it were Game of Thrones quality.

So Comparing Game of Thrones(Book) to LS(Game) which took over 20 years to write vs. this which only took 1. Who is to say that in 20 years LS won’t have Game of Thrones quality. It is like saying you read 1/5th of a book and decided you didn’t like it when all it had was the character introductions. So u can’t really compare games and books in the end. Also, well written books take a long time to write, just look at “Name of the Wind” still waiting for those. Concept of LS and a living world is the holy grail of video games.

My solution for video games would be to give all players one character and one npc to make a macro loop with dialogs and quests . That way the world will be constantly changing with payers constantly designing updates they want in the game. A guild could create invading armies of npcs and such and such. Anyway the through separating the processing of each npc to each player would allow them to possibly have very complex dynamics.

Point is you can compare the story development times between LS and a well known book at all.

Been a topic of some discussion lately. General thinking was that, if it did mean anything, she was going to die or need saving from Canach

But what if it wasn’t happenstance, but something dormant that Scarlet could later use for leverage?

Snake Plisken is always poisoned and forced to do the work of the president

I could just see Scarlet using Kasmeer’s condition to demand that Destiny’s Edge 2 stand down and let her get away with something, or even help her.

Scarlet: All right, I’ve heard enough. Would you explain to these foot soldiers why they’re going to do what I tell them to do?

Marjory: What’s she talking about?

Aetherblade 1: The Toxic Spore venom.

Aetherblade 2: Improved from the version you saw the Tower of Nightmares. 100% pure death.

Aetherblade 1: It starts with a slight headache, then turns into a hallucinations that gets worse and worse. After a short time, you crash. You bleed out like a stuck pig. Not a pretty sight.

Kasmeer: I get it. You figure that you inject that poison into me, and under the threat of death, I’ll do whatever you say…

Aetherblade 1: You got it, Meade!

Marjory: One question: which one of you kittens gets to die trying to stick her?

Aetherblade 1: You don’t understand. It’s already in her.

Kasmeer looks down at the scar from the Tower.

Aetherblade 2: Catches on quick, doesn’t she?

This actually matchs the “Escape from LA” movie plot perfectly. I really love this if they worked this in.

Fafnir.5124

I’m going to disagree with you there. The Marionette bosses separate the players. You don’t know who you’ll share the platform with, so it very much comes down to individual skill for each platform. With the wurms on the other hand, it’s just a big zerk. Everyone is spamming their attacks like crazy. Apart from micro-managing the eggs, and making sure the adds don’t get out of hand, I found it very shallow strategy wise. The Wurms don’t do that much really, and have very simplistic mechanics. It basically comes down to “Can you spot the aoe attacks in the big mess of effects, and dodge them in time while your game runs like a slide show”.

The real difficulty is killing the wurms fast enough, and at the same time. That boils down to a DPS race, and you want to use TS to coordinate that. I don’t think difficulty should come from a timer, or a DPS race. Nor do I think boss encounters should be designed with third party software in mind.

U still got 4 failures till you fail. and only boss you should fail on is 3 honestly where it one hit kills. All other mechanisms are well known and established as easy kills.

Edge of the mist is a map where Anet can experiment with WvW implementations before they put it in WvW without it effecting WvW seasons and matches. I expect edge of the mist to change very dramatically over time with updates they add. Very dramatic changes can be made to WvW fighting mechanisms ladders. Defensive weapons for towers and keeps bows with barrages and massive aoes so few defenders can finally defend against a zerg and was give legitimist advantages in fights.

E=mc2, first nuclear bomb… scarlett is creating some kind of nuclear bomb…
would be a perfect twist xD

Just only that E=mc2 has absolutely nothing to do with nuclear bombs >.>

E=mc2 is Albert Einsteins formular for is world known theory about relativity, and that is PHYSICS, not CHEMISTRY.

His Relativity Theory was all about timespace continuums, gravitation and the speed of light, not about the theory how to nuke the world best into a quadrogazillion-superbillion pieces

Conversion of mass into energy is the center peace of a nuclear bomb which is why this equation is sum-ominous with nuclear power even though the equation isn’t used in nuclear energy.
