Hi! Freindly thief here, I come in piece (on forums at least). Seems that the pu Condi build is pretty strong now, especially with perpex runes. I am not here to complain about that at all because I have adapted my build for better Condi clear.

What I have come here is because I would like to see the build in the build editor foam so I know what traits and skills do what. I do not play a mesmer which why sometimes I am like ’oh kitten where did 9 stacks of confusion come from" although I manage to clear it most of the time it still halts my assult and outs me in defence mode for a bit.

Again I am not here to qq or sulk at anything. I would just like some tips and advise when fighting you guys

Blind fields already pulse and even though it’s on 2 seconds people still say that it is ‘perma blind’ . Adding blind stacks is a very dangerous thing try to balance. Blind is good as it is.

Intresting discussion guys and nice builds. I don’t really solo roam anymore the only time I would go solo is if I got wind of a fight club at South camp sentry or in eb.

Before this patch when I played d/d I use to run deadly arts just for mug and full trickery line (2/0/6/0/6) and I noticed that 50% crit chance before fury was still pretty good for back stabs.

This is the build I play now. Depending on what weapon sets I play nothing much changes really. S/d I go for crit strikes instead of sa.

Oh about about improvisation I tend not to use this in 1 1 duals unless it’s heavy conditions person I am fighting. And when I roll d/p then I change to hidden killer and shadows rejuvenation.

Just saying though, I have played d/d pure bust builds and more sustaind builds. But I didn’t enjoy it as much as s/d and d/p. I think it’s healthy to play all weapon sets equally rather then just 1.

I meant that they didn’t need to go balls deep through all of them aoes, risk getting blinded or even hit a block skill just land CnD to remove 2 conditions (pre patch) so 1 condition now. Simply because the didn’t even have the trait. And “spamming” #2 on swoedisn’t that great of an idea too.

Still not convinced that d/d is as bad as you make it out to be. I have seen s/x users beat heavy conditions build with out shadows embrace. You could always get a 2nd short bow and equp sigil of cleansing is it? I have heard of a sigil that clease a condition but never really looked into it, now with fire/air nerf ed I think I will re visit the drawing bored and look at the sigils. There is even a recent thread discussing viable d/d builds and they seem to be bouncing back and making it work.

That being said If I decide to go pvp on thief tonight instead of raiding on warrior with my guild (depending on MU) I will play d/d for a lengthly amount of time and see how truly bad it is.

Yeah, it’s was all about that 1 trait that made s/d or even acrobatics worth taking . Such a shame that they went too far on it.

Sigh. What has really hurt you then as d/d? Because shadows embraces has effected all of us. Is it that you can not blind people on stealth anymore? S/d acro users never had that option anyway. Is it Shadows rejuvenation? Because I can’t understand why it’s become so bad now. I have tried it a few times after this patch but didn’t notice all that much.

Are you really that sore over this? Acro trait LINE is fine, we lost poi and fluid strikes but got a buffed version of hard to catch and don’t stop. It’s feline grace that’s the only downfall and that’s 1 trait, not the whole line.

If you can’t move on from d/d because of how “bad and unviable” it is then thats your problem.

People need a break from this class, if all they feel is nothing but negative about the thief.

Sounds like what you are saying is that you can’t always win there for it doesn’t work. D/p “works” but dosnt always win. Either deal with this change by re doing your build and “bounce back” are reroll a new class. It’s that simple

Ofc I use d/p but I also said I use s/d and d/d as well. What I was trying to say is that there is more the 1 weapon set to play and if like – for example d/d, then you will make it work if you want it to.

Dont actually recall using it as a rant, but isn’t that what d/d was about? The old 6/6/x/x/x was about insta killing people. The shadow arts was more a fighter I admit though

There is no real logic in using acro as this time. I like hard to catch though, very useful, and pain response is also pretty nifty, shame the regeneration is kinda poor. I find it better to run cs da and trickery now as s/d.

Still people belive that thief is dead? Can’t you guys spend a bit more effort on adapting/reworking your play style?

I am playing d/d s/d and d/p. I still see some friends who run s/p.

Meh, still don’t get how sd is completely dead. The old acro build isn’t no where near good I agree. People still use to run 2/6/0/0/6 kitten and as far as I can see, that hasn’t changed at all apart from hurting a lot more.

I may not play in as high teirs as some of you but I can not imagine how it differs from lower teirs because in both instances if you make 1 mistake then you are screwed regardless.

I think people don’t like the fact that can no long use there dodge roll as much as they use too and don’t like the fact that they have play different or even change their build.

Still rocking and losing as s/d and I will have to accept that too.

Sorry but what I read is “a net has changed thief too much and I can not adapt and bounce back, there for I give up on thief and play something easier”

We are all going through this change and I personally don’t see it that bad I mean, for me who use to run acro s/d yeah that kinda sucked but I also use to play 2/6/0/0/6 d/p and with the trait changes and speccing into full sa, d/p has never been easier and forgiving. I never understood the hype of p/p , especially “roaming?” In pve. Sorry if I am coming across a bit formal here but people who give up like this were not real theif players.

Just wait for the thief elite specialization (few months I heard lol)

Oh and regarding shortbow, it still does an amazing job and tagging pve mobs, just donate cluster bomb higher up and let the bombs spread. Or even attach fire sigil to it.

Dunno what to really say about this rune. I have never used and never will, at least not on thief. I have seen it to be useful if you have a well coordinated team (pre made) that you can mist form into, other times I find it a total death sentence as a thief. I mean "oh look, mist for – heartseeker in 2, 1, 0. And dead (90%) of the time. Also like someone has said, it interuptd your action wich is more of a downside then a life saver.

P.s I mainly unranked solo or play with friends so I dunno how “good” it is in ranked game.

Tbh I have not incountered any new issus. The daze mantra was a bit of a change. What I mean is that I had problems with mesmers before the patch and after the patchance, like wise I also had no problems with them before and after the patch. You get out played and out play them back.

I have a valk chest piece too. So might drop 200 toughness for an extra 1k health. Still have same stats across the bored though.

Is there a site that calculates your survival rate on different vitialty/toughness stats?

Few things I have e picked up using dp. Using #3 then infiltrations signet (pretty much simultaneously) at long bow rang works pretty well as a lot of people do not expect shadow shot to work from that range. Also with d/p I think it is better to have more precision then you would do as d/d because that set is mainly about CnD and bs. If you have no shame on chancing rng, head shot on a low target if you are at range (for what ever reason) could trigger fire/air sigil burst. Funny but sad at the same time winning a fight that way.

Off topic – Regarding d/p needs more or less skill, well anyone can #5 #2 spam, just as anyone can “spam #5 #1” as d/d. You can see d/p a mlie of and rupt the combo or you can dodge the CnD. Fact is with dp you use all 5 weapon skills so yes, it’s harder to main your iniative as a d/p then it is as d/d in that respect. I have always seen d/d as a 1 tricky pony but they also really have 1 real chance at it, d/p is more of an annoyance to the enemy but kills people just as much

Just added a note for heart seeker/quickness interaction. This may even effect other classes using leaps with quickness, but I’m not sure.

also counts for like warrior #5, with quickness it travels way shorter and with slow way further.

It dosnt remove it the first time unless you do it again which is why the “?” Was there. Makes no sence to having to use infiltratios strike/return twice just to remove weakness

So since the new patch hit, my self and I am sure that a lot of people also had re do their gear, luckerly now we can also change ascended weapons/armors.

anyway toughness vs vitialty ? My current gear gives me 14k health and 2421 armour how ever is there any point in the toughness side of things and instead get more health?

I ask this because of the marauder amulet has no added toughs (neither did the old zerker) but has a lot of health added to it. oh also this is mainly for wvw

Just woundering if that added toughness is going to do much, your ideas ?

Theres are perhaps my 2 favourite combos on my thief but i am not sure what i like the most :p
. first 3 are t3 assassins mask – sneak thief’s shoulders – glorious pvp skin chest armour – rawhide gloves -nobal leggings and sneak thief boots.

other 3 are t3 assassins mask – whisperers shoulders – ascended chest piece – rawhide gloves – t3 assassins leggings and t3 assassins t3 sandals.

Thief also has a skill that can:
-Daze
-Steal health
-Damage
-Poison
-Give you stealth
-Give Fury, Might, Swiftness, Vigor
-Ripe 2 boons
-Give iniciative
-Etc…

On a 20 sec cooldown. Tell me another class that has a skill that can do all that in that short amount of time? Right you don’t have it

This is a L2P issue IMO

And for all of that you have to invest in 3 speacailizition lines and 1 line is maxed out just for buffs/defuff. It can still be blocked, invul, predicted or randomly dodge so making it useless for 20 seconds, and put you next to the enemy who is free to make his move.

So this condition, I, and we all know what it does but I noticed that 1 skill does not remove it. “infiltration return”. I was waiting for oger wars and got bored of waiting so I started to beat up pve mobs. then I came across a veteran ogre. it spammed weakness on me so I used infiltration return to remove it but I was still weakened.

is this a bug anet or is there something I have missed in the patch notes.

So we all know that upon using infiltration return it removes a condition but I noticed it does not remove weakness, at least in pve anyway. Did I miss something in the patch notes or is return not working?

An idea is may be put all stealth attacks on the iniative bar, say 2? At least they if some thieves decide to spam on invul or blocking people they are punished for it.

So I was dualing a d/d ele and I noticed that some dmg i was receiving was incorrect. i checked my combat log and i noticed that i took 3 shot’s in a row of lightning rod which hit me for 3k dmg, the damage was not the issue I noticed.

I don’t have much experience with an ele so I had to look up lightning rod, and it says in the too lip “call down lighting on disabled foes” the problem is that shocking aura triggers that and when i was using my short bow from pew pew range while shocking aura is up, i received lighting rod proc’s.

I detonated my cluster bomb and received 3x 3k dmg from lighting rod while the ele had shocking aura up.

this is not a QQ thread, i respect being out played but things like that is a bit silly.

Also found that feline grace is now dead. I decided to experiment with shadow arts line and I didn’t notice any less dodges compared to acro line

that guy was ranger so it means they were both noobs

erm no, the power creep is real and a bit OTT. back stabing another thief for 12k and 8k heart seeker, where as before i would get 8k back stab at the most. having a mesmer hit me for 5k powerblock was a bit of a shock too.

Head shot cost’s 4 iniative, so if they spam that they will have none left in no time for them do anything else (black powder/heartseeker combo) so they either did use their brain and shut the enemy down at the right time or they were dumb and used up all iniative for 1/4 daze.

Anyway I thought we are discussing counters to stealth?

I still do not see why we should be revealed on block/evade/blind, I think the writing alone in white saying “blocked/evaded/blinded” is more then enough because the text is where the thief is so surely you should be able to react to that – and backstab has close to a second after cast, it’s tactical strike that has a very short after cast time and is probably just as dangerous. Many times in duals vs thieves I predicted a dodge while they are in stealth and got the “evade” only for to turn around and CnD right back at him/her because the text told me where they were.

The ONLY thing that might be worth (nerfing) is probably tactical strikes cast time, you spam that 2 times per second so vs ages it’s going to land far easier then bs will do.
