never once in all my roaming have i been jumped by thieves that i did not see on my screen. are you telling me that you roam blind and deaf, so you cant see them pop shadow refuge or hear them blast the smoke field? sorry but just no. unless you are day dreaming and did not see any red names in the far distance then there is no reason for thieves to randomly pop stealth unless they see an enemy too which in that case you see them too – then they will stealth up, you should respond to that, not blindly carry on foreword or what ever you do.
Which tier are you on?
Also I think you’re outright lying/exaggerating, or not roam enough to claim you never get jumped by thieves before. I even roll my screen to the farthest all the time, and still occasionally get jumped by thief/thieves from behind because they can gap close you out from screen on your left, right and backs side of screen within 0.5 second.Where did he say he has never been jumped by thieves before? I mean you quoted his post and still went and disingenuously put words in his mouth he did not say.
“never once in all my roaming have i been jumped by thieves that i did not see on my screen. are you telling me that you roam blind and deaf, so you cant see them pop shadow refuge or hear them blast the smoke field?”
Learn to Read?Good D/P thieves pre-stack stealth 24/7 before engaging in any battle. If you see them coming, they’re not good thieves. Those are ones that don’t even know how to use the shorten version of heart-seeker to spam leap finisher on smoke field. Unfortunately most thieves are that bad.
good “d/p thieves”? good d/p thieves do not spam that stuff like that, thats shadow arts and they are not “good thieves” they are just trolls relying on trait for 1 extra second on stealth. good thieves are the ones that do it once and burst you down even though you saw them use #5 – #2.

silver, and regardless of that my tier – prime time eb is just as blobby as t1 is. nope never been jumped by thieves that i did not know they were they while running to my objective (team fight is different) but never been ganked like you say. I dunno about you but i am always panning my camera around holding down ctrl to see enemy names (you can see names before the player btw). the moment i I hear or see shadow refuge/black powder I will either wp or go in a different direction. if i am on my thief i will stealth my self.
actually thats a lie, i got ganked a few times because a few jumped out of sm but meh, not in the open map

Been reading a since my last post and 1 guy claims that dagger storm is worthless in a “real”?? Team fight. Ds is far from worthless as you put it, it’s pretty strong I mean an 8 second duration of reflecting all projectiles, crippling foes and bounces twice How is that worthless? Sometimes it’s a pretty good distraction “look at me spinning in front of you” ! also what good are you to a team fight if you are dead in the first few seconds From a ranger when you have more then enough tools to deal with them

Logically, it makes no sense why am a ability based on aiming should be able to pinpoint track someone while their target is invisible. Because this is illogical, the burden of proof as to why channeled skills should follow in stealth falls to you.
Also, stealth in this game is completely different to stealth from other games. You’re comparing apples to oranges.
LOL, because being able to “stealth” in full sight of someone, in broad daylight in an open space with no cover is perfectly logical…
If you want to bring “logic” into this the how can a warrior block things from behind when the shield is facing forward, how can engies throw gronades behind them while running forward, how can a mesmers puney little scepter block a massive gs or hammer?
It’s a game dude, nothing is perfect. All class’s have pros and cons.
“Dude”, try reading things properly, I didn’t bring “logic” into it, the guy I was responding to did, my point that “logic” has nothing to do with how the skills in this game work.
Oh i read clearly, I just tried to state other obvious things that are not logical in this game.

Why do people belive that because thieves go in stealth they should move slower, go on revealed when hit or even lose health/stamina like in some games I have seen (what?).
Do stealth fighters or bomber have any of theM symptoms when they go in stealth?
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
I alao play s/d and It takes practise mate. I tend use short bow most of the time in wvw when roaming with guilds, imbo with short bow sneak attack and land 1 or 2 bombs can force them to back of and try to interupt their hs combo. We have better mobilty and evades but they have better dps and stealth. Even blasting your own shadow refuge can stop them because its a dark field. Plenty of tricks you can use, I am still learning them.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
the new acro trait line will be very interesting when it does go live, I am in favor of the nerf to Fg – it was too easy to spam dodge for a quick 5 stacks of might. But I don’t agree that s/d is “cancer” (why even use that word on an online game lol) people complain about #3 on s/d but it’s fine for d/p to spam there shadow shot.
I rarely see s/d thieves in pvp so I don’t know how badly they abuse their dodges, only time I spam mine is if a screw up and get caught in a bomb in a team fight.

Hey guys.
Been busy lately and missed the stream about the trait changes. Can any one reply with a link on information, or even a video of the stream? I don’t understand what has changed apart from that you can only pick a full trait line rather then half of 1.
I am deeply hooked onto the standard s/d acro 2/0/0/6/6 atm and I heard this will be ruined in hot expansion. I hope this is false.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
not quite the same with the long coat but this is my female version
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
Well since the trait system has changed to what it use to be, there isnt that much you can do build wise for survival. All I can suggest is start of with some pvt gear mixed with berserker gear. Use short bow a lot vs multi mobs droping poision feild down then blasting it, even if the mobs do hit they are weakened so it isn’t that hard of hits.
sword is also a good weapon too for leveling up, #2 in, if you getting beaten up hard just port back out again. (thats bias though coz i main sword over dagger :p)
as for traits when you get them, I guess acro line would better, at least for feline grace as i think its better to rely on dodging mobs rather then to just chain stealth of them.
hope that helps you

More than once I came from downed state by taking down someone with the downed skills.
What else would I do? Lay there letting them finish me off easily so they get 5 points they do not deserve? Yeah. As if.
well yeah, you died and failed – and the quicker you’re finished so you can re-spawn to get back to another objective or your team the better. isnt that the right ?
If i am down on a point by my self then I will use #2 and #3 (if I get time) other wise i will do nothing. i would rather die, give them 5 points and get back to the game asap.

people seem to ignore the fact that I said in my original post that I main thief in pvp.
I have shadow refuge, I can stop a stomp, even turn a fight, my allies can see that I am a thief yet still ignore My shadow refuge.
I am only rank 43 but still, I play solo ranked mostly and I see a lot of legendary “chumpion” title’s. there is not much of an excuse for people to not see what I am going to do when they are down.

Hey guys.
can any 1 explain the logic , or the reason why people spam #1 when in down state ?
I can understand it if the enemy is also very low, or both you and enemy is down. but when its a grp fight or even 1v1 and the enemy(s) has pretty high health why do people still insist on spamming down #1 skill, I have no kitteng clue. you are defeated – it’s over. (this happenes in wvw tooi know)
I am asking as I main thief in pvp and I regularly shadow refuge allies yet they still spam #1, even though i call it in chat! not only did the guy die, i lose my shadow refuge to sealth another allie.
SO why do people do it? i just don;t understand. this is not pve where we face ambient creatures.
If you don’t 1 spam you’re bad unless a thief is there to res. Keeping people in combat as long as possible is one of the best things you can do before you die.
this is my point lol, why??? spamming #1 dose not make the stomp cast time longer. like i said i can understand if the enemy was also low but when they are above 50%?
and that necro vid lol! thats a bit extreme isnt it :p
Try thinking about what I said.
I can say the same to you, I main thief in pvp and its kitteng annoying when I call – even spam shadow refuge 3 times and yet my allies still get kittens clicking #1 when down

I dunno, never thought of stuff like that as a thief. always gone on the offesive side, runes, food and oils ect.
speaking of food. what is https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Omnomberry_Ghost like on sword thief? i feel sword swings too slow for such a food to take effect, i see this more suited for dagger or pistol.

Have any of you tried running Sword+Dagger with Melandru Runes and Lemongrass Poultry for reduced stun and condition damage duration?
I’m aware of the condition removals on Sword, Withdraw, Signet, and Shadowstep … but thought that against tanky condition builds it could be beneficial …. also reduce those windows of time where someone manages to get you in a stun (or immob when waiting on cooldowns).
Also curious about Runes of the Vampire. The additional Lifesteal is welcome for sustain against tankier opponents and the Mist form when low buys time for more Endurance + Initiative for more dodges/evades.
Just curious … I find tanky targets the most difficult on my Thief so those are what I often think about. I don’t often feel like I need anything else to help me against another zerk build … they die just fine.
I don’t see any logic in being “tankier” as a thief, unless you want to troll people. infact you don;t really need melandru runes to be tanky at all, just run 6 SA shadow arts and 6 in acro and you have all the sustain you can ever dream off. most of the time that a thief get stunned the dmg has been done anyway, so i dont think melandru runes will help in that factor neither. as for the condi, there are better runes for that. even lysia would be better i think for anti condi.
Not tried vamp runes, isnt that the rune that turns you into mist/vapor form at 20% health? interesting.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
The biggest problem with stealth in this game is that it cannot be broken. Most games invisibility or stealth is removed upon taking damage. For some reason Anet does not understand the balance aspects of that and decided to avoid that in this game.
From a logical perspective it doesnt even make sense how something can remain stealthed after being crippled stunned etc…
erm, why should something be “unstealthed” if hit? did you manage to hit the on and off switch or something?
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
hmmm, i dont remember any “dmg” nerf to back stab or crit dmg for pvp, i know it effected wvw and pve. may be the cele meta rised soon after that time so people now a days are a bit tanky-er.
It looked like most of the people he killed were also berserker amulet too. if you 3/4 in to the video the necro hit him with life blast and neally took half of his life away, and even the mesmer burst him down pretty quick too.
In my eye, this is what a d/p thief is meant to do (burst down enemy squishy very fast and move) and i think I eat 6/7k back stabs on my thief too.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
Hey. This is my current set up for wvw. It doesn’t have the health as it does in pvp but it has an extra 250toughness.
It didn’t have to be in ascended armour, infact I don’t think you will notice much vs exotic but it was my goal to get thief fully ascended :p
Hope this helps.

So guys, what food you guys use for wvw? solo or grp roaming as s/d.
After making more zerker armour my current food gives me 53% crit chance and i feel that the +3 is kind pointless. what do you recommend ?
I will post a link of my set up.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
Oh well. i think it is better to have AA of anyway because of confusion. its better to have complete control over your own actions then to have AA on. thanks anyway ^^
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
here is the options i have “set” for combat. when i try to stow weapon with AA on it seem’s to try and complete the whole chain at times, but sometimes it will stow on demand. i dunno, gw2 is weird at times.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
I have set my stow to ctrl mouse 5, very easy to access. i guess i should learn to play with AA off in pvp/wvw. thanks for the replys
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
Oh dont get me wrong, the Shadows embrace is a much more superior condi cleanser then pain response but you still have to land CnD to use it.
I have played both defensive trail lines but and prefer the acro line because like you said, it is more active and , more exciting for me. I find acro is also less predicting and more for the enemy to work at too because when you see a stealth abuser you have a much better idea when they will burst where as acro you are all over the place.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
oops yeah, stow weapon* I will edit that, thanks. hmm, I don’t think i could get a long with spamming #1 lol, would feel like i am a guardain in a wvw zerg :p. but I see montage videos of all class’s and they seem to stow weapon every time perfectly even with AA enabled.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
just a quicky here, does stow weapon work for you guys on demand? because most of the time I am having to spam my key bind like 4 times and i am still using my AA chain.
is this normal ? because if it is its pretty bad tbh. GW1 had a cancel action butting that halted any action you did, why cant they do the same here ?
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
(edited by Fat Disgrace.4275)
yeah i belive there is some kind of macro usage going around, or some people are pretty quick, they may be young too. back when i was a lot younger, 10 years ago or so i would be fighting people and they would joke that i have 3 hands or something because i would combo X and Y at the same time while doing something else that some people just could not execute. now that i am older i simply can not react as quick. may be people are just that quick
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
I watched the video but i wont comment on it as there has already been a few post’s about it.
I am confused when people still say SA carry’s people because doesn’t full acro do the same dam thing lol? in fact i find that i survive longer with acro because of the never ending dodging and with that signet of agility you shouldn’t run out of dodges. and lets not forget whats a better trade of, 300 armour with stealth traits or 3k health passive condi removal and a hell of vigor income?
I also watched your video too, @oEnvy. And I think its easier to survive in full acro then it is full sa because you are free to dodge when ever you want, even random dodges to get the 10% dmg but you are not free to land CnD all of the time, people miss them, a random agi pops up, or a blind or even a legit dodge.
I am not defending the SA tree nor am i saying its good, i am just saying full acro is just as, if not more “cheese” (what ever that means) as going full SA.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
I normally run what ever build I have on, weather its wvw melee train build or a yolo focus warrior build (6/2/0/0/6). You are not the only player there and sw is normally full of people so I can not see how 1 build such as rabid will make all that of a difference. Even if it did, you cant match 2 -3 Condi people vs 20+ dps players
I can understand an organized Condi party for the evolved jungle wurm as its you’re agasint the time but not like that in sw.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
I don’t understand why you “need specific viable” builds for pve. just run full zerker and dmg traits and beat things up. GS and axe/xx
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
people die everyday, from what ever reason, we all know that. I am just saying that 150 people died from a plane crash lol

Same old crap, you are blaming the SA tree for 1 extra second of stealth, per stealth ? or are you saying its because of shadow rejuvenation. I run 4 points in SA in wvw simply because i get free 200 armour, a condi clear and the other trait i can juggle with master of deceptions/cloak in shadows or what ever. that leaves me 4 points for the power line and 6 for trickery. in fact full acro is just as “brain dead” as you call it because you can evade for days (i know no 1 has mentioned acro – just saying)

D/d can work if you want it too. Having good results with 4/0/4/0/6. (mug/dagger training. Shadows embrace, xxxxx. And the usual trickery traits). With pack runes and totc, you get an easy 75% fury uptime so you don’t “need” hidden killer.
Don’t you feel that missing some of the steroid 25pt traits decreases your damage by too much? You do have the survivability and utility trait to make up for it though.
No, not that much. My thife is fully ascended and wvw Infusions (not that it adds much) but I get 2456 power 200%crit dmg and 40% chance. I can still land 6-8k back stabs or 6k heart seeker. And yes trickery line is so good, I will hardly go into crit strikes again

Also had this happen to me as well. You can not wp/change map/or q pop while in combat at will, you just can’t. Another guy said on this forum that people are able to “leave the mists via wvv window” , not sure if this also works while in combat. Unless your barrage killed him then there is some kind of bug/hack that denys a “loss”
Also lvl up hurts can crit too (I know) so you are still in combat.
