pretty hard build to play tbh, its great for 1v1, 1v2 with my experance atm is pushing it. though small scale fights from 5v5 i just melt and having to go earth tempest. stil its very fun to play .

think i have the same gear are you nooble, full cele trinks with beserker head/chest/leggings and healing shoulders gloves and boots.

You’re reaching for an argument you’re not going to find, you’re just crying hard at this point. If thieves had “huge survivability” then they’d have multiple places in every squad because according to these threads that survivability should go great with perma stealth and endless dodging on top of god like one shot damage. Get out of here with that nonsense, you know better.

Silly commanders wants class that can offer protection + stability + healing + resistance or area denial skills (cannot cross over) . That why you see Guardinas + Eles + Revs in most areas .

From 2013- late 2014 , the Commaner loved the Smoke Bomb Enginners + Thiefs for the mass stealth and suprize attacks + escape .
Just like the Guardian’s Swiftness + Stuff (healing + denial) bot , stop to exixt , silly commander just want something more ’’balanced’’ and less hussle to cordinate 50 ppl .

As far you can see just like Raids they love ’’MORE’’ charactewrs that offer something to the party to increase the effectiveness even more .

When a class can spamm 1-2 attacks with huge amount of rewads and the ’’defender’’ is the one that need ‘’MORE SKILL AND KNOWLEGHE’’ to counter it …. then the first class is a easy to play and their Population must not try to be the ’’topdog’’ i na conversation , while i am having one with ‘’specific ppl’’

something thief players largely ignore because a lot of them are biased and want to keep their easy mode.

Or they just play their class and learn from each loss instead of crying on the forums to try to dumb down another class. What it sounds like you want is for the thief to lose initiative and mobility, so why not just delete the whole class so you can enjoy the game again?

i struggle vs good power mesmers on my thief because i have not yet fully explored the class, nor learnt its gimmicks. how ever on core warrior, i am pretty much destroying the same power mesmer who gave my thief trouble.

people will just not learn to adapt and learnm other class’s but instead cry that they are OP

This is not a good enough reason for change. There are multiple other professions that can choose their engagements/disengage on the same level that a Thief can. In terms of disengage, Thief isn’t even the best at that, Mesmer is.

What? Even Dragonhunter leaps can compete with Mesmer mobility.

1. Walk the opposite direction to make the disengaged thief spend resources to catch up.

Did you know that my standard DA/Tr/DD marauder (19K HP) teef deals 2K shortbow autos while I catch up using SB5 and evade/cripple using SB3 if my opponent decides to turn around again?

I’ve destroyed trailblazer/dire reapers only with shortbow autos and a few dodges.

2. You are also out of combat the moment the Thief is, probably earlier due to almost every other profession having more on-demand condi cleanse.

This is no lnger the case as ANet buffed agility signet to cleanse 3 damaging condis (after I cleansed the soft cc condis with a simple dodge) – IF I could not evadespam the condi application before. Condis are no threat at all for a teef these days.

I repeat: I’ve destroyed trailblazer/dire reapers only with shortbow autos and a few dodges.

a reset (Which means you won, by the way.)

What reward did you get after a teef reset to name it a “win”? This is no win. A reset is a part of the fight as the teef can re-engage you at any time.

If you feel like a winner after I disengaged and re-engaged 30 seconds later to gank, kill and loot you… well … that’s your personal definition.

What? Even Dragonhunter leaps can compete with Mesmer mobility. no it cant, can with #2 and utilty stun break skill though but they are not leaps. but its not just the mobilty its the stealthing and changeing direction of the mesmer that grants them out of combat, or enough distance to be in a safer spot

the point is you should not be chasing the thief is he resets, when he does you stand still or open the gap even more and predict when he comes again, the ball now is in his court because he has used precocious skills and inative, you should know this after all since you play thief. its only when people get frustrated and chase them do they get rekt by the thief

Those tells made sense back before HoT because everyone had 2 dodges and maybe 1 stun break to burn through before you mashed someone’s head in.

Thankfully, you had 3 stuns, Shield Bash, Bull’s Charge, and Skullcrack. 1 dodge usually gets burned on weapon skills, so a warrior would eventually reach a situation where damage could be landed through one of these setup skills.

But now with HoT, stun breaks are everywhere with low cd’s. Why? Because they added more CC everywhere. The thing is, Warrior can’t actually slot more stuns without giving up their stances (usually you only get 1 free utility since Endure Pain and Zerker Stance are typically mandatory). So defenses increase, but offense (for warrior) didn’t.

Thus making it difficult to land setup skills. If Warrior had more natural defenses in their weapon skills/traits, then you could run all the cc’s you’d ever want and actually land them (burn through limited defenses with raw output), except against Daredevil of course which is up to him to screw up his dodges.

Also ignore Throw Bolas. It’s worse than Kick. Kick has the benefit of 12 second cd (9 if traited lol), so you can use it to bait stun breaks (even outrage), but because it’s a knockback it’s hard to follow up with damage. But throw bolas? Wonky projectile, and a 4 second immobolize that can get purged super easily (if you’re power)? You’re better off with just taking longbow, at least you get guaranteed CI procs.

Buffing Bolas to be either AoE, Pulses Immob like ranger root, or gives a pull would make it easier to land setup skills even without shield bash.

Endure pain is not mandatory. I find zerker stance more a requirement, There other ways to avoid direct damge then relying on 4 seconds of invuln every 60. I dropped it a long time ago and feel I am better off for it . Indeed I see endure as more a liability given you can do something better with that utility slot.

So youve never been jumped by a thief while already fighting ? I think Berserk stance / outrage / endure pain are a must.

I have dodges and blocks and CC all of which can counter the thief along with much more health then he has and better armor so no , I do not find myself being jumped by a thief whereby a 4 second invuln on a 60 second cooldown is all I have that can save me.

Endure pain is not a must, proof being I do not take it and do fine.

lol you have no way to dodge, block or CC a thief who decide to gank you with steal while you are already in combat

LOL if I am ganked while in combat and have EP I still have to REACT meaning he has already hit me . LOL if the EP already on cooldown because of combat it is not doing me any good just as would be the case if I already used up my shield blocks and dodges. LOL shield is on a 20 second cooldown compared to 60 meaning I can use it three times for every one time that I get EP . LOL the one time in 50 where I am ganked in Combat where that EP just MIGHT be off cooldown and available to use wherein it might save me from being downed is not worth it compared to other things I can be using with that slot LOL. LOL in game terms I am 3 times more likely to have a shield block available then th EP block and that is plenty enough for me. LOL

Way too much burst damage and mobility. Seriously, does anyone at Arenanet test their stuff? My characters are taking 30k damage between backstab and cloak and dagger. This needs to be fixed yesterday, but here we are and nothing’s being done.

well yes, what was said above is annoying but that should of been lesson learnt with in a few mins. he is only there to troll, deal’s do dmg and is of no threat apart from contesting the wp, he gained an ordinance with your server by forcing them to log on thief just to kill him which btw. wasted even more time and should of just bitten your tong, let him have his trolling no 2 and get bored of it. ofc thats easyer said then done when fresher people log on to see a troll thief doing that and not realising his play

The hit box on hammer aa is too large to side strafe like you can with bow, cor/drop the hammer and phase smash on the other hand are easy to dodge, though point blank cor can still land

The last mu, the whole week I roamed I met very few thives, who pretty much ran, the better thives trolled us for a while until 1 of us got bored where the thief would wp or go pve at camps, or he would try to 1v1 1 of us and do a bit more trolling.

This mu how ever I have seen a bit more thievs, but still did the same thing. Although this has been on dbl, the roamers I see or run it to are not thieves at all, just small grps ranging from 3-7 even see 10 person havoc grps and still they do not take thievs, they are heal bot eles chill mancers dh druids and beserkers. All this while also not touching my thief because they are just terrible at anything apart from gank +1/zergling, trolling and or running away, the realy good guys though can be pests but they are few and far between and spend most of their time at dueling spots. Another thing people miss is that probably lack the game playing a thief so they don’t understand it mechanicly, because I have played it for 3 years 90% fail to kill me on core warrior or scrapper though I do struggle on ele as I have yet to play them as much.

I find thives quite exciting to fight and you don’t even have to kill them to win, a lot of the time they will jump and port away which kinda tells me (I lost you won)

Sheild bash is still pretty good in small scale punch ups but don’t expect to land it in 1v1s all of the time. Using it at point blank range helps to land it more reliably too.

Yeah, you go from 0 to 5k per second with a couple of kittened skills, but sure, my 45s cd cleanse will take care of it after if taken 225000 points of damage from it.

You dont even have to remain offensive, conditions stay there, face it dude, conditions are kittened right now.

Conditions tick harder and more often than melee characters can actually hit you, that should tell you how kittening kittened they are.

No class can apply conditions without interacting with you. If you eat every condi skill avaible in the game, you are dying as fast as aginst any power build. Just think: They are both the same, both deal damage, just power hits you imidately while condi does delayed damage. You still need to dodge both kind of attacks.

That’s not entirely true here, different game mode, same skills – in wvw I was killing my self on mh DH pew pewing with LB and an ele was sharing frost aura, I got chilled from hitting the reaper and there I was bleeding, I interacted with him, not the other way around and I was getting bleed stacks. Ok not sure if pvp builds use such combos like that but I don’t see why not.

I’m not really worried about condi as much atm – I got hit by a 11,152 phase smash and 10,913 dragon’s tooth on my necro lol. That’s more than what some thieves hit me with usually.

Yes because dragons tooth is so hard to evade. Probably one of worst skills in whole game.

Ofc it is, if you’re stunned/imbo or knocked down. Some People need to stop assuming that other people don’t try to dodge anything

“Kitten son, you just got outplayed” is what comes to mind when this is the reason given. It’s not like ele has auto proc CC or immob with the CC being on relatively long cool downs. I guess if you attack into shocking aura from tempest defence but even then the DT takes takes so long we’ll be in living story 4 before it drops.

How ever I have been scrapper and the odd occasion druid and their stealth is much more forgiving, sneak gyro is a mobile shadow refuge and the stealth from druid in a combination of the trait exiting avatar, leap combo through smoke scale and hunters shot rivals that of a thief in combat because they can’t be interuptd, well the leap can and they also don’t require resorces neither unlike 9 inative. Oh and reseting? Lol yeah druids can do that just as easy btw, so can mesmer.

Power thief is only good at ganking and running away, the very good thievs can duel vs all class but that is still an up words fight.

What I wouldn’t give to be immortal like you where time is not a resource but something that is endless.

The amount of stealth in the game is stupid now, it was bad enough with the pledge trait on mesmers and thieves post trait rework and it’s only getting worse. When will ANet finally do something about the mechanic and admit it’s far too strong in its current form.

As for permanent evade condi thieves or stealth camping burst condi thieves I generally just leave them, I cba fighting it where I need to burst in a fraction of a second and evade an instant cast teleport all the time. You can find one on SFR if you ever fight, he likes to seige people after ganking with a power thief, he’s terrible but gl killing him without stealth disruptor and another thief.

I dunno, I find mesmers… chrones to be far more imortal then a thief (at least meta d/p), you have a lot of rotational defensive skills, some of which are used offensive too, and I am not just talking about thief vs mesmer mu here.

Anyway back on topic, the game has gone to far with everything now, not just condi application but everything, even wvw guilds all run dura rune just to spit out boons when they get struck. I dread to see how this next expansion pack will effect the game when it comes out.

If the squad becomes full and properly built support class favor being in the squad than gankers then sure. Although I see no reason to kick them if it’s only half full.

Isn’t there a thing about revealing female armour/clothing in combat? I heard that it’s an actual thing to distract their oponent.

Back on topic. Are people wanting male armour to be revealing just for the sake of it because fenale is or do they want it as a concept/culture thing. An example would be male gladiators armour, compared to random holes in their shirts, not that I am bothered either way.

He shows every single camp in ABL, but if you would bother watching videos before criticizing them you would know that.

He’s trying to help players that are new to WvW to become better. I truly don’t understand the hate that some players are giving him over that.

of all ele builds i fear the most is fresh air. ranged dps is a pain for a thief, let alone ranged burst. but it also depends how good of a fresh air ele he is.

^ what about the + 5 supply capacity? That extra 5 from all them 25 people will give you an extra 125 supplys. That’s like 3 normal rams/catas, a treb or even a golem. Numbers always make a difference but if the numbers dl t have enough supply because they are new then they are not working the as vets.

I don’t understand there’s type of questions at least for when it’s open world pve, pretty sure you can do that stuff blind folded even with out any traits although that would be silly.

Anyway play what ever you feel is best, condI d/d is boring as hell, staff power is a bit more active as you actually have to move a bit instead of gluing to 1 spot and spam db.
