I’d honestly prefer the signet change in PvP to also be applied to WvW just for consistency, which would technically be a nerf to the signet in WvW, but whatever. At the moment 2 dodges and 3 condi clears is a bit much (albeit, it’s WvW where pretty much any build can become op) so I wouldn’t really care if it got brought down to 1 dodge.

They might do this. They buffed sword #2 in pvp only then also made the same move in pve/wvw a few months later

How’d you even get downed underwater? Just gotta rotate spear 5 and dodges until their zerg gets bored and leaves you alone!

unless you run acro, i would like you to show us how you are able to use #5 long enough for a zerg to get bored lol. also most of the time you’re in the water is because you are escaping with low inative in the first place. what i like to do is have roll for inative, spear gun #3 then #5.

Thief was always top dog in wvw and since HoT they have 3-4 top builds one more stupid than the others.

Problem is that most of those thief players still think it’s skill why the win.

Playing as a stealthless s/d thief in today’s meta, then yes they were better skilled then their enemy, d/p is meta for a reason though and vs any compitent person the thief will have to run like a coward 80% of the time. Acro staff/condi dd and ghost thief should nor be classed as legit builds but trolling builds, they are the builds that require very little skill to be effective in.

Thief is designed to be a solo roaming class – if you go one on one with a good thief in WvW you should expect to die. Especially if you’re a squishy build that can’t cope with 10k damage.

You are partially correct. Thief is designed around solo roaming but it is just a mediocre dueling class. Its primary fighting style is catching weak or injured players and cutting off zerglings. Its primary advantage is to escape or reset.

Problem is most non-thieves get mad when two thieves blow them up in a couple seconds, hit them when they are running to a zerg or just get frustrated when one won’t stay still long enough for their slow big damage build to beat it. I sympathize with those that gripe about limited counter play (or none at all against a Ghost). The others are just salty.

Well that’s clearly not fitting your description of the design of the class.
If it’s designed to be solo, then it would be ineffective when working with another thief. It isn’t, therefore it doesn’t do what it’s designed to.

Not to mention that your description of thief only being good at hitting already injured targets – what a lot of twaddle! Thief downs full health tanks with just one reset.

Clearly, the Thief class either needs redesigning or nerfing.

@10k backstabs being big, it’s really not. Spec HM and Bound and you already bring similar damage to what CS offers, which can pretty readily get over 10k on most builds.

… and yet in terms of health pools, 10k is an enormous chunk.

It is, but it’s not really that much compared to what everyone puts out these days. Backstab is actually on the lower-end of what’s possible when it comes to burst.

15k Arc Divider from a Marauder Berserker isn’t uncommon. True Shot for 10k is easy to do. Tri-clone MR has been hitting for 20k+ since release. Rapid Fire for 20k isn’t unheard of. Maul ranger can spec to reach over 40k on Maul on the same cooldowns as Signet thief burst. Meteor Storm hits 7k per impact from many. Air Overload destroyes pretty much everything in under two seconds. Soul Spiral on reaper goes to 15-20k without issue. Electro-Whirl can get to 10k without problem. The list just keeps going on and on. WvW damage has always been historically very high and the pace much faster than sPvP. I prefer things this way since it makes fights more decisive and intense.

@Baba, an “8k mug” is not the same as as 3k Mug + 5k PI. The former is literally impossible to achieve, which is what I was getting at. I wasn’t sure what you meant by “3600 base steal” since steal baseline does no damage and didn’t know what to make of it. It’s equivalent to a mesmer stating that he dealt a 15k Tides of Time without mentioning the Power Block trait. A 3k Mug is normal given some modifiers and maybe a bit of might. The lack of critting only requires some power, which is best-achieved through more durable kits via food conversion. PI-interrupt thieves should actually be running Soldier’s P/P since it has the highest potential PI damage of all kits. 8k is why I said “It wasn’t Mug that did that much damage.”

A lot of the builds you described are very much 1 shot builds that rely on landing that perfect one shot damage to kill someone but generally would die in any fight that lasted longer than their second chance at one shot. I don’t often see 15k arc divider from marauder warrior out of the blue as it only will do that if you’re under 50%, likewise I haven’t seen a 6k true shot in a long time let alone 10k. 20k MW on a 4 hit shatter is extremely rare and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ever seen it done and many times either outright fails due to passive procs like prot/weakness, invuln, reflected CC.

I know the math supports that they are possible and I don’t doubt it just that such builds usually aren’t very viable without a lot of support or some kind of gimmick/get out of death free card. That’s without mentioning the set up required for some burst combos is like flashing a billboard saying burst inc, great one from your list is overload air where it’s easy to interrupt and it won’t kill you in 2s but will do heavy damage.

I think that’s the point you’re missing. A thief has no choice but to play such an offensive build because they have no real team support builds, where as all of them other class’s can build either way and still share some support

the only class that i could see complaining about head shot spam is probably a rev or a reaper. even then they can still trait for enough stability to make head shot less useful.

after getting fed up with being aa head shotted, i have had to learn and be less predictable while fighting thievs. a good thief will quickly see wether or not its worth his time to head shot your AA’s and play smart. although it is annoying being proced for 4.4k PI in wvw but thats an out of balanced mode all togeather.

It does nothing game breaking, it can’t do anything apart from kill people with no stun breaks/condi clear. I managed to run away from 2 of them on my power reaper.

Can confirm Fat Disgrace as far as I know doesn’t usually run ghost thief. He usually plays your standard DP daredevil that keeps trying to go for the mesmer before said mesmer oneshots him as soon as he steals.

That’s the 2nd time you said this. Havnt been 1 shotted in a long time by a mesmer. You’re 100% this is me snd not another thief? I also play s/d a lot too.

People say things like, it’s the engies turrets, or the mesmers illusions, hell even thievs guild can do it. same as it’s the thief traps. Not the thief it self. But the difference is, although they cme from a player they are all AI (beast) traps are traps.

I play this in wvw mostly now, although it’s not a burst build by defaul, it can in fact burst or hit hard. It dosnt use rifle, it’s just core gs/sword sheild. You could go strength runes instead as that will hurt more.

It seems you have the solution to your problem, but you don’t want to hear it from others…

Ghost thieves are indeed annoying, they are troubling to deal with, and with the amount of them in WvW, it gets old fast.

But, with most things, they can be countered, measures can be taken to turn the table on them, many people don’t want or like hearing it, you obviously don’t, but they are able to be beaten, using what’s available.

Stealth Traps
Stun Breaks / Stability
Condi Clears/Immunities
Predicting where they are and then standing inside their Black Powder ring (They hit you, and then aren’t stealthed.)

Even with them in full DIRE gear, they are able to be caught and killed.

yadayada…. Still doesn’t justify STAYING in stealth while dealing DAMAGE….

They WOULDN’T be in STEALTH if you used STEALTH TRAPS and stood inside their BLACK POWDER ring, but, hey, let’s complain and cross our fingers for a nerf, so we don’t need to use our brains and try.

You are offering makeshift solutions to a problem that shouldn’t exist.

But it does and the sooner people actally try to do something instead moaning on the forums the better. The game is already becoming too easy with passive stuff carrying people as well as passive runes (durabilty prime example) they can be killed with out using stealth traps.

Classes I have seen beat and kill ghost thief. Power d/d core thief. Power DD d/p thief. Core power d/d ele. A rev. A DH. If you know what youre doing then belive it or not,they can be killed – though easier said then done.

Also thief traps them self’s are pretty garbage and are not the issue here although people did cry at thives using choking gas while stealthed wich did get nerfed twice (dmg on hot and lower poison duration)

not really sure how this epi bomb works, but it looks like that since everyone has Resistance up no condis will tick, so the only way for this is currpt boon 1 guy and then said target can be bombed. but what i do no understand is that wiki says “Spread conditions on a target foe to all nearby foes.” how can 1 guy all of a suddon get all condis with stupid high ticks instantly – example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj9WbKSfbao

how can you say that? acro/DD staff is just as lame as condi D/D thief…if not worse, it rely on rotating staff #3bound #3#3 bound #4 and the odd #5 staff. you have d/p as 2nd set for even more easy mode. you also have traits proc inative and other effects if you randomly evade an attack (I am talk about the out numbered bits here, opfc you are going to be fueled)

That build seemed more of a spam fest tbh, the #3 needed to be fixed tbh as that was more of a bug exploit…Also I havnt noticed any real issue with the new vualt apart from now you can keep moving while using vault where as before you was locked in postion for 1/4 second before vault “jumped”

ok, I am not sure what bright (or dual shall i say) spark come up with the idea of dishonour for either swap char/dc/going afk for 30 secs because of xx reason or an emergency even though its unranked. i care not that i can not pvp for x amount of time, but you screw up the team when it becomes 4v5. you have a report function for a reason. If someone is legit trolling or constantly being a jerk then thats the way you need to deal with them, yet you let passive stuff carry the game as usual.

Now there’s an idea. I wonder how kittened off thief mains would be if PI couldn’t proc off an interrupted auto attack lol. Probably would be UP at that point but it would be funny to see their reactions to it.

How would it be UP, it’s virtually a free 3-4k damage when someone tries to hill or use any of the other 9 skills on their bar, given how spammable headshot is now that they don’t need to spend initiative to do damage via backstab since autoattacks were buffed.

meanwhile DH AA does as much dmg as PI from 1200 range and everyone is fine with it

It’s a significantly slower projectile with an actual cast time and it doesn’t interrupt….how much trolling are you gonna do?

Because it’s a ranged AA and it’s free. although it can be used vs Los, so can head shot…which needs an action to proc it, no stability and that’s if the thief has 4 inative to waste/spare. You keep saying that a thief has nothing to worry about while using head shot.

there is always something random to look foreword to when they do a patch, this time friendly users have red circles when ever they drop fields or grownd targeted stuff. in huge brawls its pretty impassible to distinguish what aoe is who’s.

You do realize nerfing D/P wouldn’t make other weapon sets viable, correct? You take away our meta build and we’re left with sub par builds, 1-1 = 0 just wanna point that out real quick. As Sindrener pointed out multiple times there would need to be major overhauls to the other weapon sets or the other HoT specs to make them viable. Nerfing D/P won’t do that at all.

You do realize that if D/P never will be nerfed then core thief will be nerfed and no other set will ever be viable again, right?
I don’t give a whatever about whatever sinderer says or thinks, sorry. He only knows D/P and that’s ok, but he would need to know some other sets to have a valid opinion.

ha yeah, we can use the same argument here that thief is meant to be master of stealth and deception and look what has happened that. 3 other class’s can stealth just as much and 4 of them have a reveal, even though “on my mark!” is pants, its still a reveal.

He wasn’t gonna do anything to that as a staff ele…. whats he gonna do? static fielding the heal is the best he could do then he has nothing to follow up.

Read the psot again. Hes gonna waste the thieves stuns. Then use your brain tofigure out that the others can burst him. He doesnt have to die. People need to learn how to take control over the fight instead of whining

Did you start playing the game yesterday? You can clearly see that this thief is only built to troll, it has at least 4 stun breaks in it, what the hell is a single static feild gonna go? Again there is no fight here, it’s 3 or 4 people trying hard to kill a troll thief that will not die, they should of just wp and went to another camp Or bl.
