So last night I hit another warrior (full beserker stat like me) for 10k evis (core warrior with might stacks)

I then hit a dire/tb reaper for 5k evis. No weakness on me as bersker stance was up and the 5k was a crit, infact I hot him twice and both were 5k. Now the only dmg reduction they get is while be in shroud or from spectral skills if I remember correctly.

So yeah ofc dire/tb are not an issue.

My experience so far is I am doing everything these high rank player are doing, caping camps, towers, killing enemies, and i dont see them doing anymore than i am

Sorry, but you are not doing more dmg to walls and gates and guards and keep lords, you can’t give protection from arrow cart fire with a shield gen, you’re not applying structural vulnerability to gates, you’re not carrying larger amounts of supply, you can’t use the bubble on catas to prevent getting hit from trebs and mortars and other catas, you aren’t draining supply with the poison cow on trebs, etc. The list goes on. You don’t have the masteries so you aren’t doing the same. Moreover, you don’t have the experience to take a T3 defended keep nor experience in reading “map politics” in order to maximize your kills/WXP gain. You are not doing the same as vets.

A try hard pve commander was kicking everyone from squad last night apart from guards revs eles and necros. Even warriors were kicked, and refused to defend any structure that was being attack, he nearly ignored t3 bay until half of his squad went there anyway.

Theres inexperienced people sure know what they are doing and doing as much as vets.

My point was, both of us have been playing for years, correct? Both have had the chance/choice to do what ever we wanted. Theres pve hero’s who decided not to do wvw in all of there’s years will have to lump it, just like i will have to lump it by having to start from scratch doing pve raids and fractals because there are very very small amount of “veteran” raid fractals that will ever take a new player.

It’s a bit of a kicker I know but us wvw people never intended to rank up just incase we did get a decent reward in the future, we did it because we liked wvw. But now we have a good reward everyone else who didnt bother in the past thinks they should be on the same boat as us that played wvw for what it was.

If the extra initiative was base, I wouldn’t take trickery anymore and go DA/CS/DD (would get a bit over 17.3% damage increase…enough to be a threat to any build). The damage I am getting now is crazy so with CS, damage would be next to godly.

This will def get the “thief is OP” threads train moving really fast lol.

Why? Only vs glass people with no defensive boons or dmg midigation would be effected.

I want to do lvl 100 fractals so lower the agony to half. I also want lenegedry armour so lower the cost to half. I also want to finish of my lendry shortbow so lower the mastery points by half in pve hot.

This is another issue where people don’t want to play what’s needed (zergling mainly) even if you run green armour as (gwen/rev) you will still be accepted by commanders in squads . People complain about the meta and or don’t play it and the complain they are a low rank. I mainly roam/defend home bl on either warrior/thief/scrapper and tempest but I also do guild raids 3 times a week. I started wvw not long after they removed the quaggans where the ruins are now placed and I am at rank 3089.

Some people think they should just play 1 part of wvw and expect to have the same ranks as people who play all aspects of the game mode.

Also remove agony from fractals so anyone can do high lvls, including new people.

I also want that sloth wurm tonic thing so I think they should lower the rewards for that because I want it and I find them too expensive.

Head shotting aa, especially thief dagger aa is a gamble, sometimes it hits other times it dosnt, what what does seem to happen a lot though is counter stealing a thief who bursts you from steal, quite often I would his signet of agilty and steal, most of the time it does enough dmg for them to back off or vice versa

Was this a mesmer or chrono? Because most chronos can fail a burst and sustain long enough to try again or even the third time, mesmer how ever has no really much of a chance after first fail burst

A single ghost thief was no threat to anyone with a big of expersnce dealing with thief. The only 2 times they are a biy of an issue is where the was a few of them, and or, attacking clueless people who don’t stun break out of the kd and start removing condis. They can not chase neither.

Still can't understand WvW matchmaking

I decided to be sober all weekend so that I could study and understand Anet’s matchmaking in WvW. After a three days, I’m still confused. Maguuma is the #2 server, but we’re placed in tier 3. Crystal Desert and Tarnish Coast is #9 and #10, and they’re in tier 2.

Each server in the top 10 is with a ~100 ratings difference, so on paper anyone could face each other in any given week. But the population difference in the top 10 is no where near each other. Even with linking, my friend says that Tarnish Coast was outmanned in EBG in NA timezone.

Using Einstein’s formula of special relativity, I’ve determined the cause of the matchmaking problems in both WvW and PvP:
E = mc*2/[1-v*2/c*2]*1/2

m = Anet attention to WvW
c = Anet attention to PvP
v = velocity of players wondering if matchmaking works

therefore E = broken

Now here’s the solution to the current problems. There needs to be a hard reset on all matchmaking ratings. Gecko, MMR, whatever. Scrap all points, and start over. If you create a new system, even better.

oh that is bull crap. d/p rains supreme only in spvp because of map awareness and the ability to go from point a to be in no time at all, but nearly any thief build can trick a team if the build has stealth involved… even a 3 second stealth from blinding powder.
in wvw though the fights differ a lot because there is no +1 on a point, nor is there a race ageistned capping.

the only time an s/x thief become predictable is in a 1v1 situation like all thieves are. you can see them and only them, thieves only shine when a surprise attack happens and in wvw i can port from 3k range away and still able to deal a finishing burst and port back out as a stealthless thief.

your last point ruins core thief witch is not to blame here at all. blinding powder is perftly fine as it is, shadow refuge has been left behind and needs a complete remake because as of the game age, and the amount of reveals going around no 1 is going to take sr wven if it was on a 30 sec cd.

How i see it, s/d probably would be too good right now if it wasnt d/p countering it. s/d has a lot of area combat mobility and control , defensive evade and boon strip. in wvw i am far more afraid of a skilled s/d thief then a d/p thief because a d/p is easy to read and easy to shut down. s/d thief has all of the freedom now but it needs to be kept in check with d/p. a d/p thief will beat s/d due to the fact that it can keep up with the mobility of s/d.

i dont think there should be any changes to s/d at this point, the only thing that stops it is d/p and thats ok imo.

Who said anything about pvp? I am referring to wvw where I have been on both ends of the 8k head butts.

What I have noticed is that yeah is sure does suck in 1v1 now but in team fights (larger then 4 people) it’s still very easy to land with so much stuff going on.

A 1/2 cast time, able to deal 8k on glassy people, also a stun break wich thus procs other traits such as RR and or, eternal champion on a 20 cd. Pretty sure it’s still going to act the same at point blank range as a head but is meant to happen.

Pretty sure the scrapper has at least 4/5 boons up nearly permanently in combat, hell isn’t there a trait that basically gives might upon using hammer AA? I quite often see scrappers with well over 15 might stacks with in 5 seconds of engagement

Is this Sigil really all that bad on this 1 class who literally asked for a Thief specific sigil? I mean, I’m still waiting for Thief to win a 1v1 fight by stealing 20stacks of might and wreck shop with it.

My power necro got farmed in a match earlier by a thief that would constantly steal my 25 might stacks with headshot interrupts. And there is nothing more broken than a thief with 25 stacks of might.

He even whispered me after the third time he killed me about how jokes the sigil is.

Granted in the case of necro it’s irrelevant since thieves will always farm necros regardless of sigils.

Sooooo, the sigil should be removed because 1. thief is a counter to necro (mind you, guards have been farming thieves for years and it didn’t stop Anet giving them even more counters to thief, e.g. reveal on spear) 2. your team didn’t bother peeling for/supporting you.

You know by that logic they should be nerfing necros hard because they make engis extremely miserable. Or revs. Or about half of other classes.

I mean, you even admit that the case irrelevant, so why bring it up?

reveal on spear… atm even rocks evade that and with all projectile hate adding reveal is soo useless….

That is true if you mindless use it. How ever I have seen dh using ji and then spear a thief @ 2k away that’s just dropped blk powder and attemping to hs through it (because any smart thief will not be in range for an interupt). Also the projectile hate are on class’s that don’t even stealth :-/

That only works in 1v1. It does not work in pvp for example as target might gain random block from the guardian for example the very same moment you hit backstab.

Not to mention, if you are actually low on ini and locked out of AA, you can’t cleave anymore which is really bad. No other class is locked out of AA for such long period of time but thief. I would really love to see mesmers getting their AA locked if they missed shatters or warriors getting locked out of AA if they missed burst. I bet the cries would be insane.

Thief also is only class that has extreme hardcounter to entire traitline and class mechanic, namely reveal on demand. No other class has to deal with this.

I also don’t even want to start on the fact that this nerf affected all weapon sets, even those that are already really weak. Once again, class discrimination at its finest.

Ok well sure. I forgot I don’t do much pvp anymore so that kinda skipped my memory. But class discrimination, pff the wvw side of things thieves are gods creation and anets baby doll.

Just roll a thief and learn it’s gimmicks and tricks like we had to, may be you’ll understand then they are not so all powerful force like many people to claim. Seriously though, you can give people rips on paper but it’s always better to learn the practical way. Roll a thief go find someone to insta kill and then get beaten up hard.

I saw a bound thief last night, I knew his game was to bound 3 times over BP. So I kited back a bit and waited for the red smoke feild circle to stack more stealth and dropped scrapper hammer #5 om it. That pretty much stopped him in his tracks because he has taken around 4k dmg while probably low on inarive and endurance and now is on defensive mode. It is that simple and predictable a thief can be.

Talking meta here, Out side of signet of agilty. We pretty have only 1 extra dodge. 1 from heal if we take it but that can be interuptd, I still prefer withdraw. 2nd pretty sure the meta scrapper had a trait that regens endurance faster anyway, warrior with out there passive defences can still have 2 blocks and gs #3 has which id enough in fight defence, mesmer has what, sword #2, f4 and f5, pretty sure some take the signet that rechares shatters too, rev has a lot of defence too (poor healing) so yeah. In a 1v1 situation it can be a very up hI’ll fight but then add more and more people and the thief gradually becomes usless where as every other class’s defences/passives still work with ease

Easy answer:
Thief in general. Best mobility in the game (with stun break), condition cleanse, self buffs, high damage and permanent access to stealth. In pvp only half as powerful because the stats are capped. Needs to happen in wvw too.

Doesn’t every other profession have (more) stun breaks, condi cleanse, (more) self boons, but can also survive being hit by 2 skills?


The answer is yes, please pick something actually broken.

Daredevil has I believe the 2nd lowest cool down stun break in the game (not counting revs due to energy/traiting) and certainly one of the lowest cool down blocks in the game. It also generally has the lowest cool down on their heals while also being nearly completely immune to chill, cripple and immobilise which are massive problems for other classes. They also enjoy some pretty decent condition cleansing since SoA was buffed to 3 conditions but the endurance regen wasn’t nerfed like it was in PvP.

There’s also very few classes that can survive 2 hits if they run zerk and obviously didn’t use any skills, that’s without mentioning most thieves use enough marauder to hit 16k health which most classes try to get for roaming. I think only warriors can really survive 2 hits from anything that would down a thief. Certainly everything that would down a thief in 2 hits would down an equally geared ele, guard, mesmer, ranger, engy and rev assuming no passive trait proc’d, which is possible if you go from above the health threshold to downed.

I agree though, they should pick things that are actually broken like stealth, like the excessive mobility some classes have and the excessive regen some classes have.

It’s hard to even 2 hit a thief there’s days because of marurder gear as a thief unless you invest in utility skills you can pre cast from steal. Engies laugh at a thief open spike, so do druids, dh, ele too depending on build… If they are fresh air bust then yeah it will sting them a lot and a power shatter mesmer can suffer too. The fact is, every build I have come across if they are built for roaming can easily counter Presure a thief if they are compitent enough and have experienced playing s thief. But s lot of people don’t and instead rant on the forums about them. Been playing scrapper and tempest for a good month or so and I have yet to find a thief where they total shut me down, yeah I lost a few because I am Un experienced on the newer class’s but I sure wasn’t helpless at all.

Easy answer:
Thief in general. Best mobility in the game (with stun break), condition cleanse, self buffs, high damage and permanent access to stealth. In pvp only half as powerful because the stats are capped. Needs to happen in wvw too.

Doesn’t every other profession have (more) stun breaks, condi cleanse, (more) self boons, but can also survive being hit by 2 skills?

Right, all the classes don’t have that all at once and high mobility. They sacrifice either mobility, or condi cleanse, or tankiness, or dodge/evade or stealth.

Actually no. At least in the last 4 mu I have been in, I have seen far more dh/warriors and tank druids in fact I rarly encounter them at all and this is defending home bl where there should be thives Ganking our camp/dollys.

Well what other defence does a thief have apart from its mobilty? Everyone knows if they stand still for a second vs a compitent player they will take a huge dent. It’s alright for you lot to hide behind passive anti cc raits/passive dmg midigation/invuls/blocks but when a thief is forced of a point or a fight the only thing they have is to port away, that’s a big no no.

See its funny you mention this, was roaming earlier today on my D/D ele and 2 thieves jumped me from stealth, 10k BS each, instant down. Had I had an auto cast immunity or passive damage reduction (fire, water arcana) then I’d be fine but the 1st hit took me below 50% and the 2nd hit killed me before anything could proc.

What’s the point of this story about an unrelated game mode? Well it’s that these traits are being taken in some way because you can be 100-0 by a stealth attack from 2 classes even in PvP where there’s not really a survival amulet anymore. You can have a thief +1 and down you before you even know it’s there for a lot of players, you can even see it on a lot of streams.

Thief is OP within its role, there’s nothing that can catch it and it takes a dump on quite a lot of classes that can compete in the role.

Now I’m sure someone will bring up ele being OP in PvP, it is within its role. Someone will probably mention about D/D ele not being meta in the example but it’s the best roaming build it has with cele, crusader, commander and marauder mix. The point is a lot of classes are far too strong in their roles but this is very noticeable with thief at the moment.

If you tool 10k each on an ele then, kitten them 2 must of been very glassy and built just to do that (assuming you are the avg semi tanky ele 2600 armor and above) I very rarly get that hard on my thief. It’s fine for 2 gun flame warriors to do the same thing? Or 2 mesmers ect ect. Actually I have been 1 shotted by a single mesmer.

Anyway back on topic. Yes anyone class that gets focused by at least 2 people should fall fast if they have no defences up, the fact is though thief dosnt have any of them to take take in the first place, I mean ok sure they could go and trait for acro. Weakness alone shuts down thief endurance which is their main defensive point, right? Weakness dosnt stop other people’s defences at all.

Not gonna deny locking a thief down, but tbh they could run before hot anyway, it’s just a lot easier now with dash.

Only the chak hurt more then the other mobs tbh they die fast as well. And the events with in hot are not really designed at solo play but still can be done. P/p is only good if you spec full dmg with it other wise you’re just wasting inative on #3 when you can go Staff and bounce all over the mobs instead

I still do no understand why people need a unique build for open world pve. Just equip dmg gear (zerker/marurder) and that’s it. You probably don’t even need traits lol. For hi end fractals or raids then yeah fair enough but not garbage bad Ai mobs in hot.

Polymorph Moa on mez elite spec is the end all be all broken mechanics in small roaming groups. It is a free kill.

not 100% true. remember that the moa can leap but chasing tagets get obstructed due to poor pathing.
