the system that works for MLB, the NFL and NASCAR works because all the participants are very close in skill level to each other. in MLB and the NFL, the draft system and salary caps ensure that talent is spread evenly among all the teams. and in NASCAR, strict rules about car and engine design ensure that everyone is on a similar footing — you don’t see indy cars and sprint cars in the same races.
GW2 doesn’t have any system in place to ensure that the different servers are close to equal strength. the difference in strength between SoR and ET is huge, and there is no point in ever having them play against each other.
would major league baseball be fun and entertaining if half of the games ended in scores of 650 to 4? no, it would not. it’s fun and entertaining only when the teams are closely matched.
that’s the big problem in GW2, server strength varies widely. and there’s almost nothing you can do about it — you cannot force people to play on servers they don’t want to. as long as you allow people to choose what server to play on, and as long as population remains such an important factor in WvW, this is the way it’s going to be.

Something I do recommend to SoS is use PVT armor sets. You guys are kind of squishy and I think that would really help a lot.

I don’t particularly want to go the route of the Orrian boxes for the simple reason it becomes a case of grinding Karma just for a RNG chance of getting the shards. I don’t know what the drop-rate of doing it that way is but doing it like that has become yet another grind.
I just feel that I don’t mind having to do a chain of events that unlocks the vendor but this just happens to be a Temple that is the least “open” for whatever reason, and I don’t want this aspect of the game to become a session of watching websites for the opportunity to buy something in-game.
I feel ya, but like I said. If you are sitting on 1M karma (I assume because of the 250 shards at 2.1kea)
Started with 2M karma, spent a total of 8M with boosts and got 271 shards, not to mention the other loot. Starting with 1M would offer approx half results.
It’s not really a grind, karma is easy to get.

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, the problem is the Temple does not seem to end up open very often these days. In the past month I’ve seen it open once on another server which I was able to guest on.
No, Orrian boxes. Not the temple. You can get them from Karma vendor through-out Orr.

Another way to get them is the Orrian boxes, you get back ~90% of karma with all the boosts, which means a box is only 400 karma. My last run was 44 boxes, got 9 shards.

Yeah, the scaling is really weird for this event, if present at all.
The good thing is that the hologram mobs in the higher level zones are not only a bit harder to kill, but these zones are completely empty.
I do not believe that regular mobs are scaled based on characters around, if it is, it is very small. They don’t scale in the same way Vets + do.
They DO scale with the zone so the higher level zones offer Holo with more HP

more hp???? Really wtf!? how is this relevant? So let me understand this everyone wants them to be harder? Why? Apparently they never saw Winter’s Day mobs, those were near godlike dmg and hp. And everyone wants more of it. Being a low level it was IMPOSSIBLE to farm those things and you guys want more of that crap? Sad day indeed in GW2.
Everyone complained that they died too quick but only some of us realized that they scale depending on what zone you are in, up to lvl 78s in Frostgorge. Takes a group of 2-3 to kill them there.
Players want to farm lvl 15 mobs with the same loot as lvl 78s, yeah, I don’t know how that is fair…

So I started doing the achievements, ‘cause wings are cool, and they are pretty torturous, so I took a break and went hologram farming, and after 5-10 hours of it, I’m done.
So after 5-10 hours of playing content meant to last a month, you’re throwing in the towel? Okay, continue.
..and now we have dragon weapons and I have seen 1 or 2 people with a greatsword, but again, considering the hours and hours they wasted designing them..

…That they’re cool looking skins? That’s always been the point of event skins, and these ones are much more easy to obtain than previous skins to due dropping from regular coffers as opposed to the cash shop only coffers. The coffers are very easy to grind and inexpensive to purchase en masse on the TP.

If you’re talking about the purpose behind the celebration, there’s an achievement to speak with the eight pirate councilmen of Lion’s Arch. Each of them explains the entire event to you. It’s been spelled out for every player about as plainly as possible, lol. Were you expecting to kill an Elder Dragon in a regular holiday event? o_O;
Stupid korean style grind. 100,000 candies for a pair of wings? Stuff like this is why they disabled swearing on the forums…
Or you could just buy one off the TP for very few gold compared to most event skins. Or wait for the candy to drop to a few copper (which it will) and buy the amount you need. And that’s for the holo wings, you get a set of the other wings just for completing ten of the event achievements.
Then yesterday while fighting in SOSBL we fighting SOR and notice that TC is taking all our camps and some towers and yet TCBL is painted green. So instead of attempting to take your BL back from SOR you attack us? Interesting….
To be fair, those kind of things have happened all week, even LAST week against FA/TC… weaker target is the primary target. Why would they take back home BL when a zerg of 50 SoR are there when they can fight 15 SoS and reset everything with little to no defenders?

Depends on the guild I’m sure. TSym necros are pvt face tanks. I know a few other guilds run them that way as well.
I remember working hand in hand with TSym to try and learn the counter to the famous “turtle” by TL/Blackgate back in the day.. Some of the best theory-crafters I’ve worked with in a long time and their necros were scary.

I like the way they made this event, with the Southsun crates it was pretty difficult to get them. I got 15 the entire time and got a ticket on my 12th. With these, they drop like candy, meaning you don’t have to buy them with real money or in-game money. You can get ~100 coffers PER hour on a empty-ish map.
Sure they should have had a 5-10% chance, but it’s the nature of the game. Just have the foresight to realize its a month long event and the drop rates of the coffers won’t go down. People need candy for the wings and achievements, how do you get those? Kill holo creatures and coffers.
you see the rich coffer on the TP says that there’s a “rare” chance to get a voucher. If one decides not to farm the regular coffers, but to buy these I think that they have the right to know for what kind of chance are they paying.
I never said I disagreed, I do think they should know what they are getting into, but with this being the 4th time this kind of “system” has been done, I would hope they know by now.

Since you can ALSO buy gems for gold with a real time indicator of the current market value you can make the conversion to see the real world value of gold at any given time. So we were treated to getting and obtaining daily rewards chest by finishing certain boss events, i.e. Shatterer, Tequatl, Claw of Jormag. What happened was people were then compelled to actually go to certain map areas to get the rewards.
I was thinking, why not do the same for other dynamic events? This would not only make people feel that they’re rewarded for their efforts in finishing “low level” map events, this would also make people become interested in going back to exploring other map areas and actively look for events. Just a thought.
I believe someone submitted a suggestion for a scaling Magic Find, simply put, the longer an event or boss went unkilled, the MF for that said boss would increase up to 100%. If, say after 24 hours that boss was not killed, he’d drop a rare.
I’d have to find it somewhere around here..

As long a few rules are followed, virtual currency and credit is legal. In fact, there aren’t many US rules and laws on it at all. However:
If the virtual money or credit is used to play gambling games, and the virtual money can be cashed-in for or converted to real money, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is probably being broken
If you can go to Western Union or some other wire transfer service and get real cash for virtual credits, state and federal laws on reporting the transaction to state and federal government agencies and privacy laws apply
If the virtual credit or currency tools are used to launder money, it’s a criminal offense
Using virtual credit and currency may be fun and convenient, and if Facebook’s success continues, it may be the wave of the future. We may be able to buy real things with it. I noticed at around 7pm EDT last night I went from getting 4-5 coffers a holo to 1-3… no patch, no update. Stealth nerf? Even today my drops were in the constant 1-3 range, never any more. Maybe some insane DR? I hopped to 3 different zones and on 2 characters, same result.
Anyone else notice this?

Interestingly enough, Ectos have stabilized near the pre-patch price (~18s) while Dust has completely tanked (~40s prepatch). Sell listing prices as of 12 June 2013 8:30 AM CST

I guess the ecto supply was sufficiently massive to absorb the salvaging of a significant number of ectos and that the demand for Dust was small enough that it could be met without significantly impacting the ecto market?
You can still farm the heck out of ectos, supply will never be an issue. Ectos rose when people bought them out right after the patch, then the farmers got on, did their meta events and CoFP1 and boom, supply refreshed.

I found it difficult to even tag minions in a group of more than 2 or 3; they simply die too quickly. I don’t think it was the best design decision, but as stated the crowds will thin once people start completing the achievement. Mobs would seem to be a more efficient way of farming the candy/coffers so I’m hopeful that the hologram camping will be less of an issue once the first week has gone by and the achievement has been realized.
The holo creatures SCALE with the level zone you are in. 3 80s in a level 15-25 zone will one-shot them, go to higher zones and they are easy to tag with a group.
People don’t realize this and just camp a low level zone

Already started to see it. During NA Prime last night, I was with a group of 4 guildies, never saw a single person until after Jormag was over with. Coffers are dropping in price because they are easy to get. They drop off EVERYTHING, not just the holo creatures.

I like how they fixed the dust crisis that was nice of them.
I also like how they have a higher drop rate for boxes this time and have expanded it to everywhere so people aren’t stuck in one zone farming the things.
Now if only they’d do something about lodestones and other extremely rare T6 materials and the tendency to have only 1 option for farming gold CoF P1 that would solve two of the loot problems.
Then the only problem to fix after that would be permanent content.
They said in another topic that they were working on reworking almost all of the loot mechanics this summer… I know Vol as it somewhere…

I really think they should adjust slowly rather than adjust quickly then react to fix things. Leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. Start off with a 1:1 and then if it needs to drop more, increase to 1:3…
BTW I didn’t invest too much in Dust, I was just holding my accumulated dusts since Malchor farm.
But I went all out on Elaborate Totems and Powerful Venom Sacs. I bought 1000g worth.

Agree. But with the INSANE amount of negative publicity they had to make a change. It looks like its a 1:2 ratio so far so the next week should be interesting to see where the prices end up. I think ectos and dust will do the exact opposite, up/down first and then down/up later. People will hit meta events hard for both globs and dust, it will take a little while for the supplies to level out.
Lol why totems/venom sacs? Just ignoring the fact you have 1kG to throw around..
T5s should go up though, which is nice.

call it coincidence or RNG but when i use MF gear, i get a significant number more exotics/rares from chests than when i do it without. anyone else agree? im convinced im right, i already know the statement is that it doesnt, but my play expericnce has showed otherwise.
its kind of like in IRL when people find that 1 tiny loophole to a 100 page law (or code program like RNG). it may not be on the books as official that it works, but the people who are aware of it, use it and benefit

By regular drops do you mean “regular” or the settler trinkets? If it’s the settler trinkets or the mini reef rider that doesn’t really count.

With the amount of free ectos you can get per day, this offers a very good way to farm Dusts.
My question: what is the rate of Ecto to dusts? Rare to ecto at .9, ecto to dust at 1:x? What happens if it “fails”? Can you get more than 1 dust per salvage?
