There is another free beta weekend next week, check it out for yourself. Don’t rely on other people’s opinion to make your opinion. Try it for yourself. Next beta is on the up to date version not outdated like the last one.

these are all ideas that have been brought up countless times. The commander tag issue alone has been brought up just about everyday, and the commander system as a whole has its own CDI.

ArenaNet will continue to ignore these requests until they face significant reason to implement them, such as the impending release of The Elder Scrolls Online.

TESO doesn’t even have commander tags, saw more pug coordination this weekend than ever did here.

Ah, I see you expanded your post. Glad you mentioned the add-ons. I opined to a friend about how TESO hides a lot of combat feedback from you compared to GW2, like seeing what kind of damage you are doing. He mentioned he is using an add-on to see damage numbers. You wrote, “Players will develop the “go-to” addons eventually (currently FTC is a good improvement over vanilla UI)”. Doesn’t that seem strange? Especially in the context of F2P v. P2P?

I would rather have a solid base functionality that offers an extremely simple UI that can be tweaked based on how I want it than to have an overly complicated UI that I am stuck with. Give players a base to build off and they will create what the players want. Not to mention the fact that player made add-ons are FREE, and do not put any extra pressure on Zenimax.

On terms of F2P/P2P… I’d rather the Devs hours (drafting, coding, testing, implementing) on additional content/bug fixes than making an extensive UI and that I would probably hate and restrict my ability to customize the game how I want it.

tldr – solid foundation that players can add onto is better than intricate structure that no one can alter.

I’m of the opposite opinion. If I pay for a game monthly, I expect a certain polished level of the interface and not have to rely upon stuff made by third parties. Mods are rather notorious for bugging out core game code.

Companies love player-made FREE add-ons too. Players do all the dev work, take on all the risk, and companies make all the money. “Take all the pressure off Zenimax” is code words for “Zenimax profits off your work”.

So you would rather take a small dev team to work on a “polished UI” when they are needed other places?

“Mods are rather notorious for bugging out core game code.” What? Have you ever actually modded Skyrim? Never messed with my “core game code”… not to mention, these aren’t mods, they are add-ons. Just like using teamspeak overlay for GW2, except Zen won’t ban you for using it..

The only way Zenimax would “profit off your work” is by them not worrying about upgraded a perfectly fine UI, but by them putting out a superior product due to having more resources working on more important stuff.

It’s of course not a guarantee that frequent patching will happen with ESO, but if their business model is based on monthly paying customers that drive their revenues and profits, they’re much more likely to listen and actually do something.

Like you said, P2P is no guarantee. This assertion that subscription models lead to companies listening closer to customers is unproven. Lots of examples of subscription based services from other industries…

Zenimax has made a lot of changes based on player feedback from the first couple of betas, I hope it continues.

I know from personal experience that this kind of responsiveness is not present at ANet.

I don’t know. During beta the Anet devs seems much more responsive to feedback. A few months after release that changed quite a lot. That might be a natural cycle.

Difference being ANet wanted your 60$, TESO needs to keep your $15/month… Money drives companies. I’m not “dogging” ANet but once they got your 60$ from buying the game, that is all they really want from you. Other P2P games have to keep working to keep you subscribed.

Moot point since the game isn’t released yet so no one is paying a subscription fee.

True, but they are still selling people on the game, not to mention pre-orders. We’ve never paid a sub fee for GW2 WvW and look what we’ve gotten over the last year and half…

As a PvP player, I hate the fact that ESO forces you to grind out ten levels in PvE, running long distances between NPCs for linear quest dialogs of rehashed Oblivion storylines, before you can start the PvP part.

That said, the PvP part is fun in a different way from GW2. The combat feels more like FPS than MMO. They do some things better than GW2 and GW2 does some things better than TESO.

Newest PTS build shows that you can now PvP at level 5, which is 2 hours of PvE Questing with a group. Me and a group of guildies hit level 10 in 4 hours of questing, we were level 7-8 doing level 12-15 quests, easy peasy.

Anyone who says the map is actually ‘too big’ is wrong. A single player can cut off reinforcements to the main battle, ONE PLAYER. We did the testing this weekend and it’s def viable and easy to do. A group of 10 people can run in place 7 trebs, take a wall down in 3 minutes and stealth away. Our home towers were being hit hard in a 2v1 on Saturday afternoon, my guild had 10 people on and we split off and hit the 1 tower that cut off 4 waypoint’able keeps for the other team. The main force was unable to keep up the numbers and our team was able to push them back.

The graphics are beautiful. Not sure what potato people are playing on. 660ti, 80 fps, Ultra, zero lag in 50v50 fights.

Combat will evolve. Remember, you can use add-ons in TESO. Players will develop the “go-to” addons eventually (currently FTC is a good improvement over vanilla UI).

Not to mention, if there is no action on your ‘home’ campaign (your main server for WvW like in GW2) you can guest to ANOTHER campaign to keep fighting. It’d be like if BG BL was full, you can port to T7 BL and play WvW.

It’s hard to compare WvW GW2 vs TESO, they are completely different takes from two different companies with two separate end-games in mind. Each game does certain things correctly.

halfway into the week in T1 NA over 50,000 of the total points are from stomps.

i think that’s too many.

Did you account for dolyaks as well? Because it’s practically impossible to know how many points are added by stomps unless you run numbers from pre-orb and post-orb match-ups between the same servers.

We know server pop is a issue we are thinking about some ideas. When we have something concrete we will let people know.

Are you open to taking out Orbs?
Our metrics indicate that orbs are a great mechanic and people love fighting for orbs and it adds a fun aspect to wvw. Orbs are staying.

WvW rewards?
Leagues will increase rewards in wvw with new achievements. Rewards will be tied to whichever server you start the season with.

Season 1 please stop leagues.
We are open to suggestions and feedback during season 1 and will adjust season 2 if needed. We need season 1 to give us data.

This class is op that class is op.
We are balancing classes in the upcoming match and wvw is a priority for us.

Orbs have ruined GvG and open field fighting, do you agree?

It’s a finisher. You get the finisher until the next season. Ex: If you win the gold league in Season 1, you get a golden dolyak finisher until Season 2 is complete.

It all depends on which servers are Medium and when they are Medium.

We all know there is no reason for a PvE or PvP player to transfer servers within NA or EU. NA to EU or EU to NA is something different.

I’m wondering if Devon is not allowed to modify server transfers for WvW because the PvE team is calling all the shots.

It’s not ‘who is calling the shots’ it is how the servers are set up. There is 1 population — everyone. You can’t decide the ‘WvW population’ without excluding people from activities or breaking up entire servers. When there is only 1 metric to decide population, you have to use it.

One possible solution is to break out WvW-worlds and only open WvW on those, then WvWers who want to PvE can guest back and forth. There is major issues with this as well..

Illogical server transfer costs

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the cost of server transfer to be proportional to the server’s wvw ranking, rather than total population size? If I wanted to PvE/hang around in PvP on another server I can guest there for free, but if I want to play wvw on that server, I have to actually BE on that server. By that logic, the cost of transfer should be based on wvw activity (and the easiest metric to count that would be server ranking). This would encourage players to move to low tier wvw servers while discouraging stacking in T1 servers, and thus give you better population balance. That and also if I want to help my friend transfer to a low tier server where I’m playing, I don’t have to pay a ridiculous amount of gold/money.

At the moment, it costs 1800 gems to transfer to Anvil Rock, which is roughly 90g, because we have non-existent “high population”. Anvil Rock is the 2nd last place wvw server. It makes absolutely no logical sense to have to pay that much money to get people on our server to BALANCE OUT POPULATION ISSUES. It should be FREE to transfer to a t8 server.

High population =/= 1800 gems. Very high = 1800.

Points per stomp isn’t enough incentive? Rewards aren’t going to happen, been said multiple times in multiple threads.

By devs? That’s unfortunate. The current model seems to stretch winners and losers further apart more than it gives losers a chance to catch up. Incentives would move bloodlust closer to normalization and make it a shorter term advantage when you double or triple. It seems like both the random blood hungry players and the folks who want to see less bloodlust would be satisfied without having to remove it.

By Devon. There are no rewards because flipping them is INSANELY easy. You can flip 3 in 2 minutes, giving rewards for those would either have to be so low that you don’t bother or notice or put DR very low that you hit it after flipping 5 nodes per hour.

If you DID get rewards, you would just see 2 zergs of 50 running in the same direction reflipping what the other flipped.. almost worst than PvDooring

Oh that’s true. Well good thing the fights are very quick!

quick? 5 minute fights with 2-3 minute in between, you are talking 1-1.5 hours for 1 match. Even at 525 points total (7*75) over an hour and half that’s equal to a 87.4 PPT over that course which is not even your full quarter of EB.

tldr gvg =/= PPT

Outmanned buff

You really are clueless, servers wont be able to create a situation where they can avoid random people getting on the map so they gain the buff. Also the outmanned buff is specifically when one server is “greatly outmanned” by another server so what is wrong with them receiving a buff to their kittekittenn order to complete?

I simply cannot fathom how your mind works, do you actually know this game?

Because when they buff goes away IE more people join, they would lose kittenats which in turn brings on the griefing and “omg you noob leave the map bc i want my kittenat bookitten back!!!!”

If they buff goes away they are no longer “outmanned” what is your point here.

My point is tying a statistical boost leads to griefing. Even though you may not have the Outnumbered Buff, you could still be Outnumbered no? Just not “greatly outnumbered”.

Adding +power etc to the Outnumbered Buff isn’t going to solve any problems, only create more.

Why is it that every match is a blowout?

One up, one down. It’s that simple. You’re getting new opponents every week, but playing against servers close to your own WvW population and 24/7 coverage.

But as we all know, we can’t have nice simple things here.

This has been recommended by players for like 10 months, WULD would mean that a T1 server would play a T3 server EVERY WEEK. BG/SoR/JQ would only play each other every other week. Meaning TC would be in T1 every other week. This also means SoS/Mag/SBI would play against one of SoR/BG/JQ EVERY OTHER WEEK.

WULD is a horrid system with this amount of population imbalance.

“Close to 24/7 coverage and population” — Are you serious? SoR went down to T2 this week and they won by 250k. If SoR lost T1, this would could happen EVERY OTHER WEEK.

Exploring WvW Vistas & Points of Interest!

It should take at the very most 3 weeks to get all Vista and POI in WvW now. Just find a blue dorito and follow it for a while..you might even start to like WvW

To be honest I’ve been in WvW for 4 days now trying to get all the last points and I love it! Hate the exploration bit but a decent team (When available) and Zerg upon Zerg is also fun too :p

I am only bitter that it’s a pain the PvE and WvW world are combined for the exploration title/achievement! when in reality it should be a PvE thing in my opinion.

Most of us are pure WvW’ers, we are all in the same boat. Why do I have to do Hearts when I just want to kill people? WvW is 2% of the 100%, I think WvW’ers have a bigger issue to complain about.

No rewards for events in WvW

There is a max on the number of people that get credit for events/kills etc, It is the same in PvE for Champions. Single players count as 1 to that limit but parties also only count as 1 to that limit. I’ve heard the limit is around 50 or so.

My Idea For Ruins and Bloodlust

The ruins are places designed for players who don’t care about rewards too much, and who are looking for like-minded and challenging small scale fights. If you want rewards, you capture structures and kill dolyaks and sentries. Please don’t try to change everything to suit your personal demands — it’s just not for you if you don’t like it yet.

Then go sPvP, or ask them to add an sPvP mode where you are not bound to the current restrictions of that system. Do not however try to bring your sPvP kitten into the middle of WvW.

I love this argument, absolutely no backing or facts to prove it yet gets thrown around every day here. Might as well say towers and keeps have circles too therefore they belong in sPvP or everyone is upleveled to Level 80 which happens in sPvP too so let’s get rid of that..

It is fantastic the “gvgers” are all bum hurt. Learn to play in open field, not a set up fight.

None of you know how to drive, how to call the right targets, and win outmanned fights in open field uncontrollable circumstances. That is why you all set up “even” fights lol. Man up and stop setting up carebear land behind the windmill running in circles spamming aoe to “areas” lol. I wear my RA kitten helmet when I play too.

Because GvG guilds don’t fight outmanned.. LOL Ask Agg, EP, RE how many times they’vefought outnumbered in the past week. It’s north of 20 btw..

Sorry but sitting around for 2 hours to make 3 videos of a spam aoe special helmet fest is not fun, nor impressive. You take the majority of those “gvg” clubs and bring them down to 5v5 or 8v8, and theyll get worked.

Edit: or theyll show up with cheese group makeups, also not impressive lol.

Here is the thing, If we put together a team of 20, we wouldnt lose….how could you ever lose with 20 people…thats called over abundance.

I don’t recall asking you to validate if it was “fun” or “impressive”, you made a point that they are here for ‘even’ fights. I’ve never seen any GvG guild turn down a fight, even when outmanned 80 to 30, my rebuttal, which you cleverly dodged, proved you wrong.

So.. put together a 20 man team and “destroy everyone”.. oh wait you quit the game, so why are you here again?

First off lol I dont even know who you are, but you know who I am.

Second, I didnt dodge a thing. We came to GW2 to fight people in less than 10 environments. So far, that just isnt what most people want to do. In fact, 95% of the people “GvGing” 5 months ago would have said it was horribly dumb and a waste of time not “ppting”. But they got so bored now its time for the next stage in their pvp experience….“gvg”.

Sitting around for 2 hours to make 3 videos of aoe spam fest sounds worse than the ppt game. When you guys get to play an actual pvp game, you will learn so fast, just how Good you thought you were in GW2 means donky donk anywhere else.

Giving a server 50 stats points wouldn’t put a dent in the ‘major issues’ you speak of. All it would create is a state where the population of a map would yell at other players to leave so they can retain the buff. No one should just be GIVEN stat increases, you should have to earn them.

Too many server pride fanatics will never allow this. Imagine the QQ.. It’d be tasty but wouldn’t happen.

I do agree they need to combine or separate servers. In a population based game, the imbalance will eventually destroy it.

I personally never had much of a World “Pride”, maybe because I’ve travelled around quite a bit to see the different Worlds and meet up with friends in EU and US… But then again, I believe you can get the same effect when you’re representing a faction, much like Luxon vs Kurzick in GW1!

Agreed. As you can see in my signature, I’ve moved quite a lot. Server pride is a pointless excuse to put in overtime for something that doesn’t really matter in the end.

If ANet wants to tie in the WvW community (which is what is needed) we something BIGGER than “our world” or “our server”.

Griefing is the problem with this.

As ANet as said around 100 times, they will not add stat buffs for being outnumbered, outmanned or in any direct correlation to the number of people who have on a map, because it will lead to griefing. People harassing others to leave so they can get 50 more stats will happen and that’s the reason the famed “Orb to Outnumbered buff” argument never goes anywhere.

I know this is a troll post lol, but….

As we all know this argument is completely invalid and lacking all logic and/or reasoning.

Also, they are willing to implement a mechanic that does the complete opposite and gives stat buff’s the larger server in a lopsided situation, but when benefiting the weakest of the lopsided situation….heaven forbid we should do THAT…

The reality of the situation is, it’s not usually “1” person that joins and puts you over the top of that outnumbered buff, it’s usually a guild group or a large influx of people that finally put you over that buff and to be honest…you glad to see it gone, because it means you can finally start getting somewhere on the map….

I wasn’t offering a valid reason of why this wouldn’t work, I was reiterating what ANet themselves have said as to why a system like this hasn’t been and will not be implemented.

As we’ve seen, smaller servers CAN and DO hold the Orb buff – so the argument of “larger server always hold the buff” has been shown to be incorrect.

And yes, I could see instances where a guild joins a map and everyone whines and complains “OMG [GG] get off our map you ruined out outnumbered!!” And people think that the WvW community is divided now…

It is fantastic the “gvgers” are all bum hurt. Learn to play in open field, not a set up fight.

None of you know how to drive, how to call the right targets, and win outmanned fights in open field uncontrollable circumstances. That is why you all set up “even” fights lol. Man up and stop setting up carebear land behind the windmill running in circles spamming aoe to “areas” lol. I wear my RA kitten helmet when I play too.

Because GvG guilds don’t fight outmanned.. LOL Ask Agg, EP, RE how many times they’vefought outnumbered in the past week. It’s north of 20 btw..

Sorry but sitting around for 2 hours to make 3 videos of a spam aoe special helmet fest is not fun, nor impressive. You take the majority of those “gvg” clubs and bring them down to 5v5 or 8v8, and theyll get worked.

Edit: or theyll show up with cheese group makeups, also not impressive lol.

Here is the thing, If we put together a team of 20, we wouldnt lose….how could you ever lose with 20 people…thats called over abundance.

I don’t recall asking you to validate if it was “fun” or “impressive”, you made a point that they are here for ‘even’ fights. I’ve never seen any GvG guild turn down a fight, even when outmanned 80 to 30, my rebuttal, which you cleverly dodged, proved you wrong.

Imagine you taking down 1 gate/wall of a a keep/tower. Imagine 50 people inside which ain’t that abnormal. Imagine they all chaining their aoe into the gap. Good luck walking through and surviving.

Aoe cap is there not only for the servers, but also because some things will be just impossible to cap and some classes will be rediculously OP. Like Ele and ranger, no. If aoe is unlimited, make healing unlimited aswel and all the other spells. But OOPS, we are back to 0 than…

So yea aoe cap is there for a really really good reason.

There is a dev post flat out saying, in plain english, its there for the simple reason of server performance.

I will say it again. If the cap were raised performance would suffer greatly. That is why it hasn’t been changed.

Please answer my question next Devon.

Do please elaborate on how Siege can possibly ignore the 5 target AoE cap????

Easy. You have 1 object hitting 50, not 50 objects hitting 50. All the computations are piped through 1 object (siege engine) so you don’t have to calculate boons/conditions etc on 100 things, only 50 + 1 direct damage.

screw that I built 5 omegas and then get a message that WvW is shutting down for an update. 5 minutes later I am kicked from WvW and when I re-enter they are gone.

Can we get more than 5 kitten minutes notice Anet? every game I’ve EVER played online SCHEDULES their maintenance.

Whenever I see that a build will be available “in the next hour or two” I know that means about 5-10 minutes.

This was fixed. Please read update notes better.

Doesn’t the Orb in the WvW menu show even if you are in PvE? Technically you would need a screenshot in the JP, a screenshot in PvE and a screenshot in a BL to “confirm” this. You need to show the stats or at least your HP over all 3 scenarios.

Dots yes, actually counted as ‘in-game’ no.

I’m curious. Where did you see that confirmed? There was a LOT of forum discussion about this a few months ago and to my knowledge ANet never responded to it at all.

Not confirmed but guildies have logged out in supply camps and if they counted as in-game they couldn’t be flipped, but they do. So yeah… feel free to test though.
