No, it’s called match manipulation, and it’s against the user agreement.
22. While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder.
PvP = sPvP. That means throwing matches to raise someone else’s rating on the Leaderboard and has no merit in WvW as you don’t have ratings or a ladder. And wasting supply has no direct relation to winning or losing a match.

Gold → Gems is PLAYER controlled, not ANet/NCSoft.
The Gem Store offers you 2 ways: pay with time or pay with money. You can pay with time by making Gold in game and exchanging for Gems or you can pay with money for the Gems. A system where paying with time (Gold) is faster and better than paying with money will lead to a game that isn’t profitable.

Has anyone else noticed this? In the last 2 days, I’ve gone from ~10k HP to dead, not downed, by lag.
Happened 3 times, twice I was fighting 2 clone-spam mesmers in a small group fight (3+ from each side). I run a dang good gaming PC and no issues with internet.

Sounds like a good time to be playing, minus all of the complaints on these forums of course. Doing away with MF gear is probably the best thing ever, and changing the Legendary weapons to have the ability to change stats will be a God-send.

I don’t get the QQ either. So many whiners. If you are not having fun playing a game, why do you STILL PLAY THE GAME? Stop threatening to quit and just quit. Stop telling anet they’re ruining the game and losing player base. They’re not ruining MY game. I’m having a blast and I’m sticking around.
I run alone taking yaks, sentries, camps, ogres, dredge, quaggan, doing support (building siege and repair) or just roam. I get ganked by small groups and zergs. I have fun.
I run with groups doings same things as solo, plus taking towers and have group fights. We get wiped by bigger groups and zergs. I have fun.
I run with zergs doing same things and taking keeps, garrisons, Stonemist and have massive battles in open. We get wiped by bigger zergs. I have fun.
If you like to run in smaller group (or even solo) nothing is really stopping you. Afraid that you get ganked by bigger force? It happens, get over it. Don’t join zerg if you don’t like it or do you justify it by saying that enemy has zerg, so we have to have gather up and have a bigger zerg. Don’t worry, there are people in enemy side that says the same thing.

I’ve played on ET (T8) with this kind of lag. It is not purely a T1 issue.
Born on ET (and still here). I can’t recall any instance where I’ve had skill lag.
Go up against 2 zergs of 80 SF/HoD in 1 tower with 15 and you’ll find the lag.. trust me, it’s there.

If you look at the responses in the sPvP forum, half are “we are working on it’ or ’can’t tell you when but it’s coming”, a few are “thank you!” and other are in regards to Skyhammer and tPvP map rotations.

sPvP reminds me very much of Call of Duty. Hotjoin, XvX, conquest matches.
Killstreaks, kills with weapons, time without dying, headshots are all stuff I went for in those games. Yes, GW2 sPvP is not an FPS but these are the kind of stats I love to see after a match. These can all have tiers: killstreak (2,5,8,10,15) kills with weapons (100,250,500,1000,5000) same as PvE, time without dying (1,2,4,5,10m). Those are a few examples but I’d really amp up my sPvP play if I could go for things like this.
I’d love for some class specific achievements other than “win xx games as an xx-class”.
I’d also love if these achievements were ‘gloatable’ in PvE worlds as well, Golden Staff for 5k kills? Golden Daggers for 5k kills??
Was just spitballin’ ideas but now that we have ANet posting here – I hope they bring in the players to help create a good feelin’ of personality to these rather than copy-pasting plain achievements.

I think you would see more of a “EU Approach” honestly.
I may be a bit biased as Eu player, but i think that pushing WvW towards the “EU way” (multiple smaller zergs) of playing should be one of Anet priorities.
As an NA player, I’m jelly… I run with [AGG] a lot on JQ and it seems that most players will keep/tower hug and are afraid to die, opting to sit on an arrow cart or ballista to get a few easy kills rather than learn to fight. If they do fight, and lose, they call in a huge 80 man zerg to kill us.
I wish there wasn’t a 5-8 hour time difference between NA and EU.. I’d really love to fight some of y’alls guilds.

You know what, this is what would happen if they Enforced smaller fights..
rather than seeing WAAA zergs are boring, you’d see WAAA this game sucks its ruled by premades, premades are rolling over the pugs WAAAA change wvw so its pug only.
I think you would see more of a “EU Approach” honestly. The NA side always play for the PPT or for the victory.. EU mostly plays for fights, GvGs and bettering themselves as gamers rather than just throwing numbers at a problem or relying on thrown together zergs to win.

Organized Group in a Lag fight: press 1I am a semi-recent transfer to TC; been there about 6 or 7 weeks now having come from both Kaineng and FC before that. TC is probably the 4th largest of all the servers, possibly 3rd, and I still only get hit badly by skill lag a few fights a week. The majority of my play, even in zerg vs. zerg (or ball vs ball), I’m still able to do things like blast a water field or use my hammer skills. Yes sometimes I have to hit my blast skill 3 times before it goes off, but it does. It changes the game, makes it more hectic yes, but do you think that fighting a real WAR vs 100+ people is more hectic that a 1v1 fight? Probably.
If it is just BG, SOR, and JQ that are impacted by this then I still agree we need to solve it, however, we should also realize that a majority of the game population is not getting crushed by this issue. If it bothers you that much I agree with the people who’ve said “transfer”. We can’t all have our cake, eat it, and still have another cake to look at so make a choice and stop complaining.

I tend to try to avoid “doom and gloom” but I will just add my name to the list of people who have essentially lost interest in this game after this change.
I barely played WvW last week (I’m on DB btw). Logging into giant TC zergs on every map, and almost nobody on my team was disheartening. Most of the times we had a commander on maybe 1 map if we were lucky.
I played reset night this week, and then woke up Saturday to a 30k lead within like 12 hours of the match starting…I haven’t played WvW since (I’ve checked in every day with my guild, and with the PPT…there is almost never anything to do. We are like 3x ahead of the server below us).
The problem for me is…WvW was all I did. I leveled my first toon in PvE and I’ve leveled my 4 others solely in WvW from Level 2 (well one guy I leveled to 10 before going in). It’s the only reason I play[ed] the game. With this change I haven’t really done anything else except open my achievement box. That’s sad really. When the matches are good, I have a lot of fun….but not like this. Not like this
Ok, the only sub-tier 1 server that should be matched up with TC is crying uncle about facing TC now.
Nearly 10 months into 1 week matches and we’re already full circle to where we were in the beginning, with 2 mega-servers and 2 servers stuck in 3rd-4th that make Tier 2 a living hell; only now they mixed it up so that it makes life hell for Tier 3 instead of just tier 2.
First, best fix to this is to stop basis transfer costs on population and base them on ranking. Make it 3000 gems to transfer to T1, T2 2200, T3 1600, T4 1300, T5 1000, T6 700, T7 300, T8 (& T9 in EU) free.
Start this process with a free transfer weekend to celebrate the 1st year anniversary, for free days you can transfer to any non-full, non T1 server for free.Then scrap the RNG and watch a dynamic shake-up and that will still see the current T1 competitive, but will close the gap between T1 and the rest of the pack; ending up closer to the EU matchups.
Lastly, allow for human intervention in the system, creating a “bump-up” ability when one server has consistently defeated it’s enemies by >100,000 points.
Either that, or create buffs based on ranking but it’d be easier if the population voluntarily dispersed.That’s the perfect answer. The simple one is to lower population caps on the maps which would force T1 to disperse, but that’s not fair to them either.
While that is a very good proposed solution, the issue of this type of scaling is the PvE’ers who will ask “Why do I need to pay 3000 gems to transfer to a T1 server when I never play WvW?”
PvE and WvW populations need to be separated. Plain in simple.

It’s because Anet know the answer as well as we do but they probably can’t force it to their players.

It’s a shame I only have 1 +1 to give.. Sad part is paid transfers from Day 1 would have still gotten to this point. Large guilds can still freely move around because they have the resources needed, small guilds can’t.

Anet themselves said tiers no longer exist or are irrelevant, so your continued insistence for them to ‘fix’ a problem you the players on those servers created is downright asinine.
None of the other servers experience ‘hour long queues’ skill lag so bad they can’t even auto attack or ruberbanding because none of the other other servers have 100 man blobs facerolling into each other again and again adnaseum.
Hardware for their servers and peoples computers can only handle so much. It was never intended for super stacked servers like JQ BG and SOR to be at the point they are now. Again this is a problem you all created for yourselves.
You want new match ups? You want lagless fights? You want zero or minimal queues?… Unstack your servers. It’s really that simple.
No one else ever wants to fight JQ SoR or BG because no other server is that stacked. It wouldn’t be fun for either side. How anyone thinks 100 man blobs spamming auto attack is fun is beyond me.

I pity the day that BG/SoR finally push JQ down to T2 or further down in rating so we don’t get matched up every week, or guilds start bailing out of JQ so this happens anyway. I feel sorry for Tarn Coast that will take our place. 2 sided match-ups will come and I can already see the QQ about how “ANet’s new system is ruining WvW” when it our own fault.
Playing for fights > playing for PPT. WvW needs more open field fights that don’t include calling in an 80 man zerg to wipe 30…

ANet’s order of updates. PvE > sPvP > WvW.. at least you guys get new maps, on the WvW side we’ve been stuck with the same ones for 10 months.
I’ve started to enjoy sPvP, I hope they restructure the reward/glory system. I really do.
To be fair WvW has received a ton of more attention then sPvP. sPvP has gotten spectating, custom servers, and a few new maps (most of which aren’t even liked in tpvp). WvW has received every armor stat setup for badges of honor and gold, new traps, skins only found in WvW, then you have a large amount of titles and achievements. If we’re only talking about rewards, i think WvW has received a lot more attention then spvp any day.

New traps – you mean ones that no1 ever uses because they serve 0 purpose?

I don’t mean to be so sarcastic or anything but WvW has gotten this attention because we were behind PvE (WvW is a PvE area in ANet’s book) and this finally brought it up to pair.. almost. Spectating, custom servers and new maps is HUGE, if y’all don’t like the new maps you can simply not play on them, whereas WvW can’t.
Yeah, we have trait lines and some form of progression, it’s nice but doesn’t come close to getting what the pve side of the game has received.

For anyone unaware of what happened, Runescape introduced a skill in which you created your own house, the first person to level 99 (the max) threw a huge party to celebrate. Inside he had PvP sections in an otherwise traditional non-pvp zone. He kicked everyone out of his house (some 500+ people), those that were in the PvP areas within his house retained their ability to fight other people. Those people went to the major town in the area, Falador, and started to kill random people while they couldn’t fight back. Losing the most expensive items in the game.

its crazy how detailed everything was last night. JQ on one side of the keep, and BG on the opposite side. when bg couldnt cap the keep, jqs zerg ran in and capped it. about 5 minutes later it was BGs. its remarkable what you can do when you take sides.
If this is a feint at “omg 2v1 u workin together” its a realllly poor attempt. If 2 servers are inside of a keep and it’s freshly flipped, they don’t have to try and take down a door or wall, they are already inside… so capping it is easy. Not to mention, JQ probably lost a good number of people fighting against SoR AND BG which just results in BG having more people after the cap… hence a flip when buff goes away.

IMO the other classes blast finishers are much more useful at the start of a engagement then a thieves cluster bomb. Having all your classes save/waste blast finishers anytime you need might/healing/retal is quite wasteful. Having thieves ready to blast these fields give other classes much more control over the fight.
I am not debating that a thief isn’t useful in a zerg, I think it is but it is not a strong utility zerg class. Their base mechanic (stealth) is mostly useless outside of skirmishing.
Mesmers are clearly the utility winners, but Necros condition management, Guardians everything (stability, retaliation, boon-a-palooza) and Eles pack siege capability and fantastic aura sharing are far higher on the list than the thief. Throwing a bone to the Ranger, they have the best water field in the game.
Sadly the ranger does not even get a bone because engineers have the best water field. Dat healing turret heals you more than healing spring (5040 compared to healing springs 4920) and gives half of the amount you heal to 5 other guys too (2520 hp) compared to healing spring only healing you and your pet. healing spring has a 30 sec cooldown, healing turret has a 15 sec cooldown when you pick it up .(who doesnt XD) They both give perma regen. healing spring cleanses more conditions than healing turret but you are required to stand inside the aoe to get this benefit, which brings me to my next point. the aoe range of healing springs water field is a tiny 240, you go stationary in that and you are probably dead vs zerg. Were as healing turetts aoe range is a massive 480 (double healing spring) so people can move around on the battle field and this thing will catch blast finishers all over the place and therefore gets off way way more combos. This is all before taking traits into consideration as well but i have ranted enough for one day so just to sumerise rangers get one trait that effects healing spring, engineers have a hole support healer build that is amazing in wvw. enough said. Just to say i am not dissing rangers. They have an amazing survival support build for wvw that essentualy mass cripple/ chill/ emobilizes/ roots an enemy zerg, Numerous roaming builds and just plenty to bring to the table. Sadly healing builds are not one of these things.
Well, Healing turret isn’t a water field. (unless the wiki is wrong) So that’s why healing spring is the best water field in the game.

You must “overcharge” the Healing turret, and it must survive the process to generate a 1-second-long water field, and that is where you get the second, sharable, half of the heal. You can basically dial-a-heal with a decent amount of practice, but the BASE heal is about 2500, on a 15-second cool down.
Healing spring is a full heal (5k)/regen(18seconds total on everyone in the field) with a 15 second water field… which is ridiculous. How many blast finishers (or leaps) can your teammates drop into it in that time? For over 1k each?

It’s my intention to have as much of the Living World stuff drop in WvW as possible and to do it in a way that gets you a good return. We want people playing in WvW during these events too.
I really hope this stays. I remember staying in WvW and missing the Karka Event that pumped out pre-cursors like a vending machine, we got up to a 600+ PPT because no one was there. When I heard 5 guildies got a pre-cursor (not to mention double chests from the returned ones a month later), I felt really cheated because I played something I enjoyed rather than the current event.
Like I said, I really hope this continues moving forward.

Another reason the scoring system needs to be revamped …
I hope this doesn’t come off poorly or in the wrong context … but if players feel the need to create a personal game mode using custom arenas (more power to you!) to have more fun with the scoring system in this game, as well as trying to advance their ranks … then something is horribly wrong with the system itself as it seems to be able to do more harm than good.
You are 100% correct. The system is very broken. I hope many people start to utilize these glory grind servers and it forces ANet to revisit things.
Easy fix: award rank points for just about everything but kills. Kills should earn glory only.
As someone who has started to religiously visit the sPvP forums and playing a lot more.. this is my biggest issue currently.
In an objective style game, such as conquest or domination, why in the world do kills give you more rewards than playing the game type? WHY WHY WHY…
I strongly believe awarded rank points should be reflective of the game score with 1/2 the point value. If you win, you’d get 250 ranks points. Make all other points worth half. Rewards for bunkering or pestering enemy points should be added.
The team that WINS should be awarded MORE points than the team that loses. Best example I can think of is Domination from Call of Duty. You hold the points, you get more points.

I’m not sure what you mean by “WAR spit out”… I don’t have the insane background some of you have with other MMOs/games. I played Runescape for 11 years before moving to GW2.
The maps aren’t currently “well-balance” in any aspect for WvW but we make them work as we best we can.
WAR was the last RvR game we got (it was made by the same dude who’s now taking people’s money to make Camelot Unchained) and it was utter crap. It was one of those MMOs that really was dying within a few months from all sorts of terrible decisions one of which was its terribly designed RvR. The maps were god awful as if they were thrown together, and later they released maps that were effectively empty…
The maps are well-balanced in that they are at their base carefully thought out even if people have long since taken advantage of every small nook and cranny of the maps. There is all of one spot in Cliffside/Crag/Dawns where you can siege uncontested, but then that is also the hardest to lose tower in the Borderlands. Structures are placed at carefully placed distances, there is a weird hierarchy between the keeps that is very unique and played at carefully (though this is largely a meta-evolution). Garrison > Hills/Bay with the later two borderland keeps having unique strengths and weaknesses.
Its not a map like PvE thats just thrown together, let’s put it that way. No map can be perfect when put in the hands of thousands of players but they’ll held up pretty well. :p
I agree, the maps are unique and balanced in terms of hierarchy of towers and keeps, but in terms of player movement it is larger designed to hold as many people in as small as an area possible aka zerg friendly. I do like that Hills is actually ON a hill and Bay has a nice moat around it, but they cater too much to casual players with the vast open spaces.
I would love another nice map, I understand it takes a long time to go from dev to testing to QA to live but some transparency on the issue would be nice.
It is sadly a point that doesn’t really mean anything to discuss, they’ll release it when they do.
OT: I wonder if ANet is thinking of releasing PvP/WvW specific items in the Gem Shop. They say they can sustain this game on that but only the PvErs currently have items to spend money on from there. I know if I had WvW specific armor resembling something from WH40K I’d buy it up in a hurry.
Also, do sPvP’ers consider the more hardcore WvW’ers like myself actual PvPers? Or are we just zerg happy press 1 to win players?

If you’re selling siege you likely don’t care about wvw anyway… otherwise there’s a dozen commanders willing to take donations on your server I’m sure.
I don’t quite understand why people who can afford to throw 100g on a badge would need donations lol. Shouldn’t it be the other way around, commanders giving out siege to people who follow them?
Any decent WvW guild will fund for commander tags. My guild alone has funded over 15 Commander tags with players personally buying on other toons.
Most commanders want to place siege because of locations and how it plays into their tactics. If you only have enough supply for 2 rams and 1 ac and a pug throws down a random piece of siege, you are more than likely left with 1 unbuilt ram giving the defenders time to call in support or build more siege.
Also, most commanders use superior siege. Personally, I’ve never seen a random throw down something that wasn’t normal.
