To be fair, even using the wiki and the fullscreen maps on a second monitor, finding the last PoI can be a total kitten
I use all 4 guards to farm. All the remaining 80s are parked at rich iron nodes. They used to be parked at the LA jp, but I haven’t found a mesmer to port yet.
So are all of the Guardians on different servers, so you can hit more instances of the good events per day?
Guardian- main, pretty much use for everything except I’m not a huge fan of it in WvW or sPvP atm.
Ranger- Guild missions (has world completion so all WPs, Guard doesn’t), open world stuff, I use this when I want a change.
Ele- nothing, honestly. Probably going to gear it WvW at some point here
Engineer- not 80 yet (59 atm, going to craft it tonight), but I’ll use it forPvE/dungeons or whatever, not really sure.
Warrior- only level 10, but I mention it since it’s my sPvP char. Hambowwwwww.
Really, I just use them (and my alts in general) when I want a change in pace.
Can we not use this term in blog posts? I think it gives the wrong impression, especially in regards to WvW, and PvP, like you’re supposed to hunt down your fellow players, and kill them for the loot.
That is what you’re supposed to do.
I think it’s distasteful.
So?
The players are human beings, not anonymous, walking bags of loot.
Not really. They’re pretty much faceless enemies to crush beneath my feet.
Sure, you have to kill people in WvW, and in PvP, but we shouldn’t call it “hunting.”
Why not? Because you don’t like it?
You don’t hunt you enemies down in war. You neutralize targets that are attacking you
Not even close. That’s actually the kind of junk they say to try to separate people from what they’re doing for the sake of their mental health.
To make easy money in a casual way you may want to skip the dungeons. The farming PUG groups there usually require you to know the dungeon, be fairly well equipped, and aren’t really forgiving if you screw up. If your guild runs dungeons you’ll likely be fine, though.
Just make your own group – “First time, may need help” and/or watch a guide, should be no big deal. Even after the first time, make your own group and just say “all welcome” and gear won’t be an issue.
The best route is just to set culling on really low and shadows/reflections off, go in the middle of nowhere, turn supersampling on, and test with SLI on and off. If the SLI is going to help, a boost should be seen in frames with it on, if they stay the same/go down, turn it off.
This thread is gold.
Dear lord mother of jesus please yes. Penguins are the kitten.
I’ve just assumed it’s something with how the game deals with rendering stuff in the distance, or stuff is just blurry. I just have to set the rendering sampling to native and try to ignore it, since once I see how blurry the stuff is (especially the trees) I just have to have supersampling on, which ruins my performance. It’s one of the reasons why I just can’t have depth blur on; everything just gets blurry WAY too close to the screen.
I actually have a similar issue with Skyrim, where kitten just seems like it’s blurry and it shouldn’t be, and I’ve never managed to figure it out. May just be a resolution issue or something (ie, it’d be better at higher res). Can’t really say, though, and it seems ridiculous that something over 1080P would be necessary; as it is, most people don’t even have a res that high.
Sorry if this is a little rambly e.e Just same random thoughts/observations on the issue.
Tyria is a big place, and should therefore feel big. And the fog is definitely not helping in making it so.. too bad really. GW2 has some of the most immersive, awe-inspiring, detailed and believable areas I’ve seen in not only a mmorpg, but even when compared to some single-player games. It would be really nice to be able to see all of it.
There are actually quite a few issues with this- the camera, the game’s blurriness unless supersampled, the fog, etc. Really quite a shame, although it is quite beautiful, even with the issues.
You should be fine to run things on pretty high settings. It’s not worth going for the 16 GB of RAM, though (if you’re choosing to bump it up to that, I don’t remember any default configs having anything besides 8), and you’ll likely need to turn on culling at least a bit in world events (and likely on quite a bit in WvW), but overall it’ll run the game fine. I have two friends with that laptop (Although neither have the SLI setup) and they are both happy with how it runs things, including GW2.

40 gold currently will only gear out 1 character in all exotics, it’s probably not enough for the best runes/best sigils to be included as well, but it should be enough for Weapons, Armor, and Trinkets.
Even counting the fact that you can get a full set of armor with dungeon tokens, 40g won’t fully kit out a character for PvE with runes, sigils, etc.
Don’t forget boss events and the like. Melandru, for example, can make like 2-3g within ~10 mins.
Sounds like you just weren’t making money very efficiently.
My GW2.dat is 17.9 GB atm, with the folder totaling 19 GB.
If anything, I feel like mine have sped up some recently. 7200 RPM HDD, half full (990 GB free atm), last clean install was July last year. They do seem a bit long overall, though, always have.
Not nearly as much as I’d like.
You’ll need more then a 750ti for GW2 if you want to push everything. Get a 760- ones from EVGA run something like $230-$250 iirc.
What is the specific model of PSU?
As someone who worked in custom hardware solutions, I’m not talking PCs here, a Windows/Linux PC has a very specific set of hardware capabilities that aren’t found in either the XBox One or PS4, so to me they aren’t “PCs”. They are like a PC but that could be said about the previous generation.
Except the last generation wasn’t quite as off-the-shelf as this one, especially for Sony.
Just because the current consoles use x64 cores and a GPU based on ones found in existing PCs doesn’t make it a PC.
When it’s using PC components, it’s pretty much a PC.
Calling them a PC is like saying that since a lot of the technology in the Oculus Rift is found in smartphones that the Rift is a smartphone.
Not even close to being the same thing, so as a comparison it doesn’t quite work.
Also it’s not technically a “full” OS. It has no driver model for one. It’s customized to run only at that set of specific hardware. Android is more of a “full” OS than either OS on the current consoles.
Full in the sense that it’s a bit more comprehensive/intensive then what the PS3/360 used. It’s something that’s now eating resources to stay up fulltime, and not an insignificant amount.
My vote goes for a Sager, with how poor Razer’s quality control is, I would NEVER want to own a laptop made by them, when they can’t even get peripherals right….
This, Sager/Clevo is probably the best way to go, or perhaps something nice from MSI/Asus. Not to mention that the Razer Blade is hugely overpriced from a specs point of view.
Don’t confuse the CPU and GPU components with something you could find in a PC.
Actually, the new consoles are more or less off-the-shelf parts in a somewhat customized configuration . The PS4 and XB1 are both using 8core tablet CPUs of differing (fairly low) clockrates. The PS4 is using a 7850-level GPU (close to 7870, iirc, in physical setup/specs but a low clockrate once again holds it back), while the XB1 is a decent bit behind at 7790 or 7770 level, I forget which. It’s really just the RAM setups that are different from normal PCs, slightly, but that’s not going to allow huge amounts of power to be suddenly be pulled from rather weak parts.
They aren’t running a full operating system. There is no need to allow random hardware being attached. The whole device driver and HAL portions of an OS simply isn’t needed. The XBox One OS isn’t going to be installed anywhere else and Microsoft has said that other than borrowing the Tile UI it has no shared code between Windows, Tablet or Phone OSes.
Even so, they’re running ‘full’ OSes now, even if they may not quite up to snuff with Windows or Linux. This is actually a bit of a resource drain; iirc, each console has a core or two dedicated purely to OS matters.
Really, the new consoles aren’t anything like what the older ones were. As it is, you can match their power (or at least the Xbox One’s, the PS4 is a little harder) with an equal budget, and they’re already behind when it comes to running newer games. The XB1 can’t even run Titanfall@60 FPS constant for god’s sake at 792P.
You don’t find it worth it, so don’t get one. That’s how it works. Others find a bane change to be worth that much, so they buy them. I personally dint find the price to be unreasonable. Your name is usually something you keep forever, so it costs more to change.
PCs still hearken back to the days of “Big Iron”, general purpose computers. They are the panel van to the console’s F1 race car. One’s a work horse while the other is a thoroughbred
Not so much any more. While the consoles can benefit from optimization, the new ones are really just lower midrange PCs from a year or two ago. They’re also running fill operating systems now. Really although they’re ‘purpose built’, the PC’s brute power is more then enough to push them ahead.
Overclocking can make sense to count, if you’re talking about a self built computer with the proper components. You just can’t assume that people are going to get that godtier chip that can hit 5.2 GHz stably or a GPU you can OC by 50% and use more reasonable overclock numbers.

It is hard to tell INTEL-Fanboys that FX has good singlecore performance.
Because it really doesn’t. It has adequate performance, sure, but relative to Intel CPUs the FX line is miles behind.
An FX-6300 and i3-3220 are close enough that I’d still recommend the 6300 over an i3.
If hes building for GW2 the i3 will outperform the FX6300 2:1 in MOST areas.
I was just going off the comparison we did previously. Either will do fine in general, but the gap was a couple frames in the heavy situation. If it’s different elsewhere, then yeah, get an i3
An FX-6300 and i3-3220 are close enough that I’d still recommend the 6300 over an i3.
Interesting. I actually rather like your strategy, since it means you won’t lose gold if you list too high. Is it safe to assume that you use an alt/extra account for it still, so your normal TP use isn’t interrupted?
The silver market has been the market I’ve been dumping all my gold in for quite sometime after it went down to +- 40c after the January speculation.
It was guaranteed to go up to at least 1s as you said since last time it was largely driven up by speculators.
That way I’m guaranteed to at least triple my investment for 2000g to 6000g.
When it reaches that point, I’m very tempted to sell. But because we know 100% that it will be used for jewelcrafting (Search Xunlai on TP and you’ll see why) I wet myself over the idea that silver ore could reach 2s each.
So I’m curious, how are you going to decide to sell or not? Just look at the way it’s moving/waiting to see if it goes up more? And do you have the stuff all stored on alts, or is it on the TP at some predetermined price (although it sounds like the former)?
Honestly, this is the part I’m most curious about when it comes to speculating; how to decide when to get out and sell it all.
Ranger. Uses CoF GS+Eir’s Longbow.
GTX 750 Ti and 7850 cannot compare – 7850 is better deal for sure
Not when it’s $185 for a decent model. That’s how much mine cost a year ago.
Athlon x4 750k for that price is really good. but GTX 750 ti is not good P/P … 7790 or 7850 or even 7870 have better P/P
A 750ti is just behind a 7850, and the cheapest 7850 worth getting is $185 atm. For $150-160, a 750ti isn’t really a bad deal at all, especially from EVGA.
fermi – he had APU FM2 – so Athlon x4
A specific circumstance. For anyone else, the 6300 is going to be much better.
The biggest issue there is going to be with the CPU, which will be hurting in busier scenarios. Really not too bad, though, besides that RAM. You could’ve easily saved enough there to go for an FX-6300 instead, and you probably could’ve gotten an i3 with the same budget.
Buy a new keyboard. Outside of that solution, I’d look around town for places that work on computers and ask them if they clean keyboards. Distilled water probably wont fix it now either.
This. Did you have it on or plugged in while it was wet?
Get a (guild) group together and cap them yourself.
You don’t want to look at motherboard upgrading, get one with a solid Intel CPU so you won’t need to upgrade. Ideally you want something good, because if you go cheaper, you’ll have to upgrade mobo+CPU and potentially ram, so it’ll be expensive. In general, a CX430/CX500/CX600 is what I’ll recommend, because they’re usually well priced.
As for building a computer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_56kyib-Ls
No idea of NZ prices, though, so I can’t recommend a build. However, aim for an i5 with a 7850-level GPU or higher and you should do well enough (for GW2. Other games will need a better GPU).
That’s an i5 -_-;;;
and I know the i3 can be overclocked but it’s difficult. I have a guild mate with an ivy i3 at 4.2 GHz with a Radeon HD 6990.
Please tell me he got some sort of amazing deal on that GPU >_>
As for you, TC, really your best bet will be a new CPU. Overclocking yours will help some, but you pretty much need an i5 for good zerg performance.

Minimal difference as far as gaming goes. Go with win7 if you hate that aberrant “metro” BS.
Metro is fine (honestly, I find it better then the start menu), and if you really can’t deal with it you can always make it go away. There’s really no reason not to get Win8 instead of Win7 at this point in time.
Where are you standing around? If it’s a populated area, seeing that sort of framerate isn’t really unreasonable, especially if your CPU is at stock clocks.
http://i.imgur.com/oHVnKFf.jpg
I want/wanted to grab a lot of higher resolution screenshots of the better looking areas, but Eyefinity was a bit annoying so I only have the one for now.
It’ll run, just on lower settings, and zergs will probably be a bit iffy, even with culling on. Overall, though, it should be perfectly playable.
The FoV has actually been edited once – back in 2012 around the first Halloween.
I think one of the big issues is that all races share the exact same camera position as one another, so the FoV has to work for all of them. But I agree a slider might be a good idea…
The cameras on the different races are all different; they’re mounted depending on the character’s height. Even if they were all mounted the same, there wouldn’t be any sort of issues with the FoV.
That being said, the ridiculously low FoV in this game is honestly appalling. I’d like to see the ability to set an actually reasonable 90-100 FoV, and the ability to scroll farther out from your character would be nice as well. Playing this game just feels really squished in close to the back of the character.
There’s no reason to upgrade to either of those; your 2600 is fine. If you did upgrade, you would need a new mobo.
Honestly, make sure your drivers are good, wipe the bloatware, then get whichever apps you like to have.
I was just pointing out that the rating should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because it’s an F doesn’t necessarily mean a great deal. It COULD, but it also might not.
pu builds are very weak, stop trying to get us nerfed by spreading your lies. plz l2p, k thx.
Everything is weak when you don’t know how to play.
Warrior.
Truth be told ASUS makes quality PRODUCT, ASUS itself however in regards to customers is a different story. ASUS held for quite a long time, an F rating at the Better Business Bureau. Suddenly this past year, it jumped from an F to an A…. My thoughts are honestly that ASUS paid to get their rating bumped, as I’m sorry, you don’t just go from being an F-rate customer service to A in the span of a month.
That’s sort of how the BBB works. It’s really not a great way to see how ‘good’ a corporation is; to really get rated on the site a company has to pay them in the first place.
“The organization has been the subject of controversy, particularly related to its practice of giving higher ratings to businesses that pay a membership fee.”
Asus is overall a pretty good quality brand, honestly. I’d recommend them fairly confidently; we actually got my brother one. Your failure is the sort of hardware failure that wouldn’t really come from something you did (unless you somehow physically damaged it, but in that case they’d probably be charging you for the repair).
Just make sure to dust it out every few months and you should be fine.
