Stop talking about what experts can accomplish when they put their minds to it and start talking about how random pugs of inexpert players can clear the encounter on their first night in under an hour, then we can start talking about how nothing needs to be changed.
They can’t because they’re not supposed to. It’s not something that “needs to be changed”, it’s 100% working as intended. There’s plenty of easymode content in the game where you can faceroll your way through on the first try with a random group of people in their random builds and gear. There’s no reason to ruin raids by turning them into another example of that.
Honestly, I’m not sure how well it would transfer. In PVP you need to simultaneously move your character, move your camera, and move a cursor to use ground targeted abilities in order to be competitive. Looking at most controllers, I’m not sure how you could accomplish that without fixing the camera or rooting yourself.
Presumably you aim by putting the position you throw things at the center of the screen then just look around with the camera, just like it is with the current action camera.
Controllers are, in general, far inferior to KB/M when you need to move a camera around/aim accurately or you have a large number of actions to do, both of which describe GW2, so they’re really not a great choice for the game.
Ohani trying to ruin a game mode to suit his needs.
Man the thread in the dungeon forums was closed so I guess he had to find a new location. Glad I found it too because it is quite the funny read. Just wait until we get to the actual reason he wants an easy mode for raids.
We know the reason. He wants legendary armor and he doesn’t want to have to work for it; he wants to be able to show up, put in the bare minimum of effort for a couple weeks, and get the reward.
People want to play with controllers. I don’t get it either
You can also get a table to put the KB/M on which works all right. I like a normal desk, personally, and don’t get how someone could use a controller with this game.
From returning after a two year break its incredibly dead, yes people are still here but the population is about 1/3 it was, maybe less.
I strongly doubt you have absolutely anything to back that up.
Because it takes 12 hours to download the game again, many uninstalled a while ago.. 12 hour download or ask on a forum…
Speak for yourself. I can redownload it in under an hour. Not everyone has Walmart internet…
Overall, the population seems pretty solid. Groups usually fill quickly and there are plenty of people around, although the megaservers help with that. It seemed like the spring quarterly update helped bring people back to the game, so I’m looking forward to what will happen with the next quarterly update
Yeah, not only would GW2 not run at all on consoles but you can just plug your PC into your TV and be good to go. There’s no reason to ask for console compatibility.
If you’re just pugging them Necro is perfectly fine. As long as you know what you’re doing no one cares
I would also predict that over the next year or two new desktops are going to shrink to a quarter of there current size. I can already do this with current technology, unfortunately the size (or length) of high level graphics cards holds this back from going all the way. That problem is going away very soon …
Yeah, you can get an ITX computer but the average desktop isn’t going to shrink to a quarter of its current size in the next year or two lmao. There’s absolutely no reason for them to and no trend that would even come close to indicating that that would happen.
I don’t know how central of a location Aachen is, but they’re are a couple places you could look. I’ve bought a lot of parts off of reddit’s /r/hardwareswap; it would be worth posting on there to see if someone would be willing to meet up and do a local cash trade. If you’re not too far in the middle of nowhere and/or they live within an hour or two a lot of people will drive a bit to do a trade. Local computer shops are your other option, although Craigslist (or Germany’s equivalent) could be another good choice. Both myself and my roommate have found great deals on there.
As for what to look for, I’m not super sure about prices in Germany. If you’re buying new, and assuming HoT is 50 Euros (is it less?) you should be able to get a Skylake i3+motherboard (the cheapest LGA1151 option they have; usually it’ll be a decent little MSI board here in the US) and ram (likely only 4 GB if you’re adamant about not upgrading from Windows XP. 8GB if you have 64 bit. You really should try to get a newer version of Windows though). If you can, a locked i5+mobo+ram will be your best bet but again, I’m not sure how much that will cost in Germany.
In the used market, you could probably get a slightly older i5, potentially an unlocked one, and ram. At least in the US, an i5-3570k+mobo+ram is $200-220.
He’s already got a perfectly fine GPU, so an i3/i5 will set him up great for GW2 (and other games).
As for how well the HoT zones would run on his current computer… I think they might run, but the experience would be pretty lackluster. I’ve found them to be some of the more demanding areas in the game, and that CPU’s going to have some problems.
Edit: I just realized that pcpartpicker has a germany option, so something like this seems like your best bet if local stores have these parts/will price match:
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/FndYpg
In general, though, just an i3 (not a T model)+mobo+ram will give him a perfectly fine GW2 experience

I just want the ability to duel anywhere so I have a way to kill time while waiting for events. The guild hall arena is nice and all but it’s not very convenient.
2) How is comparing premium discontinued item versus premium discontinued car a bad analogy? Nullifying your second point
This was already explained. Nullifying your point.
3) Why is it so bad that the players that supported the game from the beginning… that helped fund the game via the gem store during that first event… that they have stuff exclusive to them for said long term support?
Why does the fact that they bought in earlier entitle them to special rewards? Not to mention that everyone who bought the game supported Anet, and you didn’t have to buy in at launch to be a “long term supporter” at this point anyways.
It’s not special snowflakism… it just what is right because we have been supporting the game since launch and you haven’t.
It’s “right” that you get exclusive access to things just because you picked up the game earlier? That’s utterly ridiculous. You got the game earlier, so you got a headstart on getting up and running and enjoying the game. Why should you also get further ingame rewards?
4) And again… I’m sure car collectors would feel the same way… I guess that makes them special snowflakes and elitists too huh?
And again, the car collector analogy is absolutely terrible. Not only that, but most car people I know would be ecstatic at the opportunity to get more people/new blood into the scene since having more people around who enjoy similar things creates a big community. Still, not relevant at all here.
5) Anet pandering to the vocal minority will ruin this game… and bc of said pandering, particularly in this case they have lost my SUBSTANTIAL financial support via the gem store… hope they are happy pleasing the $5 a month spending casuals…
And you have… what to back up the fact that it’s a “vocal minority” requesting that these skins are readded to the game? Oh right, nothing?
And it’s kind of sad that you’re letting the fact that other people get skins and you no longer get to be special completely ruin the game for you. Like, being the exclusive king of skins in a game is so important to you?
Ummmm because you weren’t there?
Why does that matter? I wasn’t there for SAB originally, either, but I went ahead and did the content to earn the rewards when they brought it back recently. It’s perfectly fair.
Let me use an analogy… You want to buy a corvette when you are 20 but you don’t have enough money. You are now 40 and want to get the same Corvette… but wait… it’s been discontinued and now classic… You can find it on a secondary market for a premium price… Wat do you think Chevy would do if you asked them to re release the model?
That’s a really, really poor analogy; it’s not a car, it’s a virtual item. Having the MF drop tables altered is a fair bit different from having Chevy redo their production lines to make new 1960 Corvettes.
The principle is the same… you weren’t there or couldn’t afford it… sorry for ya…
Except for there being no real reason for it to be “you were there or you’re kittened” besides your desire to be a special snowflake because you jumped in at the start.
Do you go to car shows and call collectors special snowflakes or elitists because they have a car you want?
No, I called you a special snowflake because you’re so defensive of being one of the few with the skins. It’s pretty much a textbook example of special snowflakeism. Not to mention the entitlement you seem to feel to the skins just because you showed up at a given time.
I don’t even want any of these rereleased skins. It’s just fair that everyone has a chance to earn them in some shape or form. There’s no reason to prevent people from earning them just because they didn’t happen to be playing the game at a given time.
Not everyone can have everything nor should they… get over it
Apparently anet thinks otherwise. “Get over it”.
I agree on the idea that not everyone should have everything, but when it comes to things like skins in this game, yes, everyone should have the chance to earn them (reasonably; having to pay 3500g for something because the supply hasn’t been replenished in years is ridiculous).
(edited by Fermi.2409)
Why? What reasoning is there behind that statement?
And again… a testament of Anet pandering to the vocal minority of the whiny forums…
Because voicing your desire to have the ability to acquire a skin in the game makes you a “whiner”. Wanting to have the opportunity to earn skins is completely reasonable and I have yet to see a reasonable argument as to why people shouldn’t be able to earn them if they can.
If the skins were just being handed out that would be one thing, but that’s not the case.
I think those are overkill, a $600 laptop will work fine. I just got an Acer Aspire laptop for $529 and it plays fine.
Not if you want to play with decent settings/framerates…
but of course if you arent too worried about dps, just go rifle anyways because it isnt that much worse, it just fills up less of your rotation.
That’s pretty much what I’m doing. I’ll run P/P condi in raids but it’s just not my favorite build in general; the condi life doesn’t fit me. OP’s reported 30k DPS with power rifle is intriguing, though. Even if hammer scrapper can go higher 30k is still definitely good enough to use anywhere, despite not being optimal.
But that’s the problem, raids do take hours and still failing because not everyone can live up to the expectations of this meta, but they still join because they want to and just lie about their build, and I don’t blame them. Cause the whole thing is toxic as hell.
From what I’ve see, raids fail because people fail the mechanics. Not because people “can’t live up to the expectations of this meta” (what does that even mean?).
Plus it’s not just leveling a char to 80 with tomes and then gear it up, people want ascended and you still need to spend a lot of time to get elite spec. It’s completely bs that you’re expected to do that just to do 1 raid, 1 thing in the game.
It’s not “compeletely bs” that people want to to contribute to the raids as much as possible. Not only that, but gear checks are exceedingly rare. Just gear yourself correctly and join your average group and you’re fine as long as you’re playing a desired class.
I didn’t mention yet that even if you have a good build, you often also need to link Legendary Insight to prove that you did the raid.. I mean come on what is this, are we really going to exclude people just because they do something later than you? It’s disgusting.
Just join a group that doesn’t require LI pings?
I’ve done all of my raiding through pugs and I’ve had to ping LIs once and never had to ping my gear. Trying to make it look like a 100% of the time hard requirement is grossly exaggerating; the vast majority of people believe that you’re running a DPS setup if you’re DPS and that the tank/healer can heal. Given that most of the failures on bosses come about due to mechanics (even Gorseval, although running into rage is much more common here) and no one is going to go on a witch hunt unless you’re clearly doing something wrong (Example: the DH I had on Monday who wasn’t responding in /d or in TS who was pulling agro off of the 1700 toughness tank).
I think players really need to get real and lower down the elitist meta bs.
This just happened to me. I’m assigned tank in spirit vale, someone else joins, switches character to apparently a better tank even though I know I was good enough and then I’m forced and expected to switch gears or characters.. really?
It sounds like the new tank was a friend or someone the leader knew, who they trust to tank more then you since they’re a known quantity. Asking you to switch characters isn’t super unreasonable in this case…
We don’t all nolife this game, we don’t all have time or even want to gear up extra roles just to please other people, or just for that 1 minute less time needed for completing something.
You don’t have to “nolife” to have a second character geared for DPS. A set of Berserker exotics+weapons+jewels is like 50-60g and will work just fine. Less if you get gear or weapons from dungeon/WvW tokens.
On top of that, I think there are only more raids failing because of this, since people just say that their condi or tank or whatever role, while they’re not fully. And nobody can even check it unless they ask to link gears but I rarely see that happen.
Conclusion is it definitely doesn’t make the game more fun, or easier.
The “elitist meta bs” of what, people asking the people joining their raid to bring classes that will contribute what is needed for the group’s success? That definitely makes the raids easier and more fun because you won’t spend hours failing because people are running bad specs.
Ye same here, drop fps, we have great pcs, after the update, me and my 4 friends, we got 20-25-18 in maguma( on the meta event), with i7 and gtx 970-980ti, this game is a fok joke, for our spec, and??
Lower shadows, reflections, and the character limit and you should be fine
It’s amazing how many more salvageable blues/greens you get in dungeons compared to fractals, and how quickly their value can add up.
Thanks for the link (it’s one I’ve looked at before), but I just find hammer to be… boring
What? Steam has had offline mode forever. They don’t lock you out of your offline single player games when your internet is down…
steam is a useless software that gives nothing more then problems and a little bit of convenience, anything steam offers exist outside steam without being forced to use a third party software.
Without wanting to get into to much of a discussion, you need to look beyond the obvious functions which steam provides but instead think about what the service as a whole provides.
Without steam (or other digital distribution platforms) the entire gaming industry would be in a very different spot than it is now (anyone remember Starforce CD/DVD protections in its early stages?).
yeah, it would be DRM free, that’s what kind of spot it would be right now.
i have never seen a majority of ppl saying they love DRM, better yet, they hate it like hell on earth.
any DRM, not just steam, is just a horrible thing to have.
So you’re ignoring everything Steam brings to the table purely because it also has/is a form of DRM. Nice.
I can’t but think you must be insincere to keep pushing this nonsense, “entitled” means inherently deserving – raiders work for their rewards (maybe you could try the same).
But people use the term to describe non-raiders as well, to say that people who don’t want to raid are “entitled” to ask for alternate methods. If it is “entitled” to ask for alternate methods then why would it not be entitled for those who enjoy the current methods?
“I am entitled to Legendary Armour, so I must get it, if I cannot get it now then they must introduce a method for me to achieve it.”
This is what you have been arguing this whole time.“I am not entitled to Legendary Armour, if I want it I will complete the content required to achieve it.”
This is what I am doing with respect to Legendary Armour.See how I am not entitled but you are? Do we really need to keep going through this line by line?
Just give me a thumbs up that you understand.
He’s never going to give you a thumbs up. It’s really not worth your time in the slightest…
The just plain “power engineer” is scrapper with hammer while the Rifle one is (obviously) Rifle? And what’s your rifle build?
F o r u m b u g b o y s
As for SAB skins, it finished all 4 sets this time, so if you can only get 3 out of 68 skins in 20 days you are doing something wrong. I also got the moto backpack and the blue sab cover.
Yeah, pulling 1 every 2 days just by running all of the worlds daily was more then doable.
steam is a useless software that gives nothing more then problems and a little bit of convenience, anything steam offers exist outside steam without being forced to use a third party software.
Steam collects/lets you run all of your games in one place, integrates online features with friends, and gives a convenient location where you can acquire games. It’s a fair bit more then a “little bit of convenience”.
Steam is evil because Valve are evil.
Steam is malware, unwantedware, surplusware, wastemytimeware, a boil on the face of the industry. If games were only available through Steam I would stop gaming. But make your own mind up ;p
So you’re just mindlessly hating. All right.
Anyways, I don’t see GW2 being put on steam but I also don’t see how it would hurt. They’d make less from each sale but the additional advertisement/interest gathered by the release could pull in some customers. Although, they already have a pretty big reach, so having more people buy on steam, losing them part of the cut, might not be in their best interest
Plus, Steam is evil.
How so?
Even without changing colors/saturation/etc you can use sweetfx to get rid of the blurriness of the vanilla game, which is incredibly nice
Yeah. I’ve been learning what my class’s "CC"s are, but It’s really kitten hard to figure out what counts for breaking the Breakbars or not.So far, all I’ve confirmed are Stun and Daze are “CC” skills, but Immobilize and Cripple (The ones I have more access to most of the time) apparently aren’t.
“/wiki breakbar”
Is your GPU OC’d? If so, try going down to the stock clocks. If not, underclock a bit and see if it’s stable.
https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/1479/
I use this preset, although I modified it slightly to fit my tastes more.
Bump: If you’re going to move a thread, move it to the TOP of the section, not 3 pages down.
They just move it to the new section, where it acts as any other thread, so it just goes chronologically by the last post
Personally I like exclusive skins/stuff when it’s things that you need to work for and earn; essentially, skill-gated items. The Liadri mini, for example.
Stuff that’s exclusive because you had to be around when it was available isn’t really that great imo. It’s all right if the means to aquire them returns periodically (SAB, from now on), but otherwise I don’t think it’s really a good system.
Power consumption probably isn’t the issue unless his PSU is supplying well under the stated wattage; the requirements are always grossly overstated on the manufacturer’s site. While it’s not wise to skimp on the PSU, 450W is plenty for his computer.
Have you tried reinstalling GW2/your GPU drivers? What other games do you play? What kind of temperature is your GPU running at when the game crashes?
Leggie Armor should be available in easy mode raids, done!
Nah.
If falling and dying is and issue I’d rather have them just set up a checkpoint/WP system where if you die, you can respawn back at the start of the JP.
I don’t think allowing gliders in JPs is a good idea at all.
How does making someone frustrated incentivize them to spend money on the game? If anything it makes them more likely to quit
Tempest/Daredevil are the two who make the most use of it. It’s their primary PvE weapon (or one of them in the case of Ele)
Learn to press and release the spacebar instead of holding it when you jump. Not a huge deal. There’s quite a bit of leeway in the timing.
Let’s play investigators!
Now I miss all of the old Lion’s Arch chatter.
Honestly I miss old Lion’s Arch in general. I just feel like the old map had a lot more character or something then the new one… I liked it a lot more overall.
May the stars guide you
Yeah, that honestly sounds like a great reward given how short a lot of the fractals are (at least if you have a decently competent group)
I am curious how big the ascended droprate difference is between T3 and T4, though. I’ve only got the AR for T3- going higher takes a fair bit more work- and it’d be nice to know just how much I should push to get the AR for T4
You blow up your problem, it is not a problem within the community, most people are perfectly fine with not getting legendary armor,
Cite.
How about you start citing all of the “statistics” you’ve made up/used before asking other people to cite theirs?
You don’t need to have HoT “fully explored” to do the adventures or really any of the HoT dailies. Just run to the relevant area.
This is a wholly unnecessary change. It doesn’t seem worth the dev time in the slightest.
Edit: Can we all agree to drop this golden fractal relic discussion? It’s very off topic, and only tangentially relevant. Who cares who was “right.”
I have got to agree with you, it was purely an issues of semantics on my part, and any reasonable person would have simply said something along the lines of “Ok, You’re right, you can get a gold relic by level 50, but that does not change the fact that they still level gated”
Any reasonable person would have had the reading comprehension to understand the statement in the first place lmao
An easy mode allows them to succeed relatively early on, and to learn from their successes rather than from their failures.
If you can succeed without failing, you also remove the ability to have an meaningful learning occur.
The argument is either that they should make it available to all players or to NO players, there is no valid argument that only raiders should have it.
You’re trying to section off “raiders” as some specific group, which is nonsense. The rewards are open to anyone willing to do the content, a setup we have seen time and time again in GW2.
And yet there are easy mode versions of Mai Trin, Jade Maw, Thaumanova Anomaly, Archdiviner, etc. I beat Lupi the other night on my second try ever, he’s not all that hard, certainly not compared to Vale Guardian. Maybe you see no use in having an easy mode Sabetha, maybe the encounter would be entirely different for you, and that’s ok, you will ALWAYS have the hard mode available if that’s the version that appeals to you. Just accept as a fact that there are people who would genuinely enjoy an easier version that would never genuinely enjoy the existing one.
And most people are perfectly fine with easy mode raids.
This is a valid question: what gives you the right to decide to change an MMO so drastically as to make higher levels meaningless in lower level regions?
My answer:NOTHING
Lmao
Anyways looking at this guy’s post history inclines me to think he’s a troll
