I think it would just drive the gold sellers to spam map chat as they were doing in Divinity’s Reach last night. If they whisper to me, only I get annoyed; if they post in map chat, they annoy a lot of other people.
Customer Support is backed up at the moment so I imagine it could take a few days to get to you. There is a spate of account compromises as well as courtesy refunds for items bought with gems that is adding to their load.
I found this paragraph concerning refunds:
‘The refund process includes permanent closure of the Guild Wars 2 account. If you wish to continue to play Guild Wars 2, or if you desire to play in the future, you will need to purchase a new serial code and create a completely new account. Characters, names, items, and other features from the refunded account cannot be transferred to a new or different account.’
That may or may not apply to you.
I would worry that your account is being hacked. Change your password, secure your email (change the password on that for sure or even change your email account through Support). There is a lot of account hacking at the moment so don’t take it lightly. Better to over-react than to not act at all.
Or it might just be a phishing email as abomaly said. I would still play it safe and change both game and email passwords though.

As far as I know, the duplicate armor skins do not get deleted from your bank. It is up to you to delete them (or not). My unused duplicate Kasmeer’s skin did not get deleted and some of the other skins I was refunded for had already been applied and they are still there. It is a kindness on Anet’s part I believe. You are only gaining a free charge per item anyway with the new wardrobe system.
If it was me, I would spend the 800 gems and keep the surplus unspent until I heard back.
It does seem to work in some circumstances. Yesterday, for instance, I disconnected during a champion fight. I reconnected as soon as I could, yelling at my poor computer to ‘hurry’. It seemed to take forever though probably only a minute or so. When I returned, the champion was dead but I had a mini chest bouncing in the corner of my screen and I was also able to access the main boss chest for goodies.
I would have thought an assurance from an Anet staff member (as is quoted in the post I linked to you) should be sufficient but go ahead and fret about it if you want.

IMac here. TP working for me.
I love the new Hero panel. To me the way we can now transmute our outfits or weapons is a significant improvement on the old system and it is so much simpler to understand. I no longer approach a transmutation with my heart in my mouth. Appreciate having all the skins I own unlocked. I was pleasantly surprised when I also got the skins of weapons and armour that I was salvaging (whether I wanted them or not). I would like a preview implemented though.
I also think the new trait system is well done as well. I like how we can change them at our whim and no cost. It will take some time to figure out what traits suit my play style best but at least I can experiment at my leisure.

I believe if you try to upgrade from your bank itself, it will not allow you if you have maxed the number of tabs.
You should be able to get a refund of your gems though so do contact Support.

Sorry for your loss but I believe you are out of luck. Anet cannot restore anything stolen from guilds. You could try posting in the Account Issues forum (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account) or search it for similar cases but sadly I don’t think you will recover your goods.

Before I discovered GW2, I played a so called ‘free to play’ browser game. I would love to link it for some people just to see how bad pay to win and RNG can be. I can’t believe now that I put up with it for so long and actually thought I was having fun GW2 is like a breath of fresh air and I hope I can play it for many years to come.

No, please, a thousand times no or at least lock the duelists away so I don’t have to look at them. The bunny hopping kittens letting off their skills in the middle of town now is bad enough to fray my nerves, I can’t imagine how much worse it would be if they were able to fight each other.
I hate that skill point. I have managed it get it alone by using a revive orb on my squishier characters but mostly I bully my friend into helping. There is another in Snowden Drifts that I struggle with as a L80 too – the Raven Shaman one. Funnily enough, I have managed to clear higher level zones, including their skill points, as a mostly solo player. Perhaps Anet wanted players to learn to group at low levels.

Thank you for steering me around the various living story events especially in the early days of the events when I had no clue what was going on. Have you seen the Dolyak graveyard, Arwen? Did you listen to the lovely music in Plains of Ashford? Did you get a sense of pride when you completed that ‘impossible’ jumping puzzle? How about those three different breeds of moas that hang out together in Metrica. Have you taken the time to read some of the plaques and memorials hidden in quiet little corners and felt saddened by the story they told. Have you stopped at some breathtaking vista and imagined the scent of the forest far below drifting up to you. There is so much more to this game than earning money.

I bought the airship pass but I think I would get a Royal Terrace Pass as well if they were to be offered on sale. If they are at a discounted price, even better. DR is my favourite place and I was disappointed that I left it too late to buy one when they went on sale before.

Maybe one day Anet will rethink their stance on karma/token bought items. As you say, it is something we have earned either through dailies or rewards for participating in activities so it seems wrong that the items are not treated the same way that gold bought items are. I didn’t know that about Ascended Rings but I have not even considered ascended anything yet. That seems a criminal waste.

I also believe it happens with the ‘normal’ high quality gathering tools too. I know I read about it on here somewhere. I guess it makes sense that you might not pay close attention if something was thumping you while you were trying to gather – hence, the ruined product. If I find the thread I will post a link.
No they are not karma rings. Just normal rares.
One of my characters has a rare, soulbound ring that she no longer needs but I cannot salvage it. I have tried both the Black Lion Salvage kit and a Mystic Forge Salvage kit and nothing. I get no message at all. It just gives me the option to equip the ring. Actually that toon has two rare soulbound rings (and one exotic) and if I swap to the other rare ring I cannot salvage it either. Anyone else have a similar problem or is my character just being difficult?
I believe it happens if you get attacked while trying to harvest.

I still experience that wonder at times and I have been playing for over a year. It is indeed a fantastic game and the community, for the most part, is a great one.
