Pronunciation of Quay

Lol, just to be inconsistent, we Aussies would pronounce Quebec as Kwuhbec.

Well, I don’t guess we own the word or can dictate how it is pronounced – well not yet.

Still, maybe it is something to pencil in your travel diary if you do come here because you might confuse the locals.

I will do the same – kway.

Figlilly.3907

This is probably silly but I am curious.

Why is Quay pronounced as Kway? As in Triskell Quay – Kessex Hills story chapter.

In my part of the world (Australia) Quay is pronounced ‘Key’ and Google Translate agrees with me so I know it is not just the usual Aussie practice of mangling vowels.

Are there places in the world (ok, the US) where Quay is really Kway or did the voice actors get it wrong?

This is from the FAQ in the sticky threads above.

Q: I haven’t heard back from the Support Team in 24 hours (or longer)! Did the Support Team receive my ticket? Should I submit another one?
A: Tickets are addressed in the order in which they are received, meaning if the Support Team is currently backed up due to large ticket volumes, waiting times may be longer than our target 24 hour response time. If you received an auto-reply from us after submitting your ticket, then the support team has received your ticket and you are in queue for assistance. No further action is required from you until you hear back from an agent. If you did not receive an auto-reply, please be sure to check your spam/junk/promotional/etc. folders, as the auto-reply may have ended up in there. You can read more about this subject here.

It is a kind thought to make way for another but it doesn’t work that way anymore. I believe server statuses are based on WvW participation these days.

I doubt if you would get a free transfer though you can delete your characters and move for free but my advice is to stay put. Blackgate is a great server and you might appreciate it one day if you decide to try out WvW.

Welcome back OP.

I took a break too, though probably shorter than you did. I was lost for the first few days but then I settled in again.

I love that we don’t have to clear WvW anymore. So much more sensible I think.

Another good thing that happened while we were both away was the change to the personal story. You can now solo the final Arah bit. Well, maybe good players can. My friend and I managed to muddle through together after putting it off for such a long time.

Gathering Tools review?

I have them all except for the newer little robot ones.

I find them all much of a muchness as far as speed goes. It’s the sound effects and animations that get to you after a while if you do a lot of gathering. There are some days I really want to strangle the clown that laughs while you harvest – it is not available at the moment. That one and the thresher one are my least favourites. The others I barely notice any more.

Seeking advice on secure online purchasing

Figlilly.3907

I don’t have the technical knowledge that Healix has but I have made many, many online purchases over the years with no problem whatsoever. If you are worried about giving out your credit card details, perhaps a Paypal account would make you feel safer. I always use my Paypal account when I can. The payment then comes out of my savings rather than running up my credit card account.

I believe as long as you are dealing with a reputable company – such as ArenaNet (or Amazon etc) your credit card details should be safe.

I know dyes are not in the same league as precursors but back when I first started, when you found dyes in cabbages and lettuce and they were exciting to find, I used to group with a guy who was forever finding dyes when the rest of the group found none. Every run we did, he seemed to find some dye.

The hateful thing was that he only ever used blue and black for his colours so they were wasted on him.

At the dragon bash event he got at least three tickets for weapon skins (I got none). He was not interested either. He was only in the game for a friend and quit soon after they left.

Mac issues with Transgaming Wrapper

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I absolutely agree. While I am grateful that we can play it on our Macs, we still have an inferior product for which we pay the same price as the far better Win model.

I love this game and I endure the crashes and low fps because I love my Mac too but the game grows increasingly harder to enjoy because you just can’t trust it not to let you down. Even going to LA on ‘choose your own graphics’ is a recipe for disaster.

Electronic Arts has come to the party for Mac users and made a native Sims 4 version. The Mac version is even suggested to be better than the Win version. Miracles do happen it seems so I live in hope that Arenanet might give us some love too.

[MAC] How well does GW2 run on MAC's?

in Account & Technical Support

I bit the bullet the other day and booted up the game on my Win laptop. I have been resisting because I hate its teeny screen.

My friend and I explored Silverwastes. Suddenly I know how the other half lives. On the Mac, I have to lower my graphics to ugly if I venture in there and I still have the worry of disconnecting anyway. On the laptop, the graphics stayed on high and the game was fast (and pretty) and no crashes.

Sigh. The Mac client is rubbish.

Is crafting worth it for casuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I craft because I enjoy it. It probably isn’t worth it though if you look at it from a strictly time-related or gold-related activity. It can get very expensive to get to maximum level.

I have played for almost three years and I rarely run past a tree or plant or mineral node without harvesting. I rarely sell any of my materials so, for me, it is a good way of levelling a character and using up the mats I have. I mostly salvage anything I craft though.

It is just another part of the game which is not necessary to do unless you want to.

I love these sort of threads.

I am an altaholic too. I currently have 15 x L80s on my main account and space for two new ones once HoT arrives. I have an additional account too with one L x 80 and two or three little ones. I hardly ever play that account though.

I don’t delete my characters anymore as I am mindful of the birthdays but also I know what I want now. I remember deleting a necro when I first started because I didn’t like the death thing. Now I have two

I guess my only funny story (well, not really funny) was poor Flynn, my one and only Charr. He went to the hairdressers one day and emerged as Fenella. I told him it was that or deletion so he went along with it.

Figlilly.3907

A lot of Mac users prefer to use Bootcamp. That is because we lose a lot of performance because of it the program having to run through Cider.

I play on an IMac i7, and, while it is generally good just pottering about the world, I have to lower my graphics to Best Performance whenever there are a lot of people around such as at the event we have just done. If I don’t, my game is likely to crash.

I can also have crashes at random times too like when I go back to the character select screen or change maps.

I use a Razer Naga mouse but I haven’t bothered setting up the programmable buttons. I can’t comment on the eSports because I don’t know what they are

I have 15. All are L80 and eight have world completion. I have two spare slots waiting for HoT and it is so tempting to fill them now. I don’t do PvP or dungeons but I enjoy muddling about in the game exploring and losing my way or falling off vistas I have done a dozen times already.

I love all of my characters and have fun dressing them up. Each one feels different – my Asura guardian makes me laugh whereas my Norn guardian seems very serious.

I just wish I had more bank space. There is never enough when you have multiple characters who need to store crafting gear.

Questions about SMS Account Security

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I believe you would have to get Support to remove your SMS authentication each time you got a new number so SMS is clearly not the method for you.

You can get an authenticator on your computer instead and this is what I have. The two I know of are WinAuth or there is a Google one for IPhone or IPad. I actually have both. I have two accounts and have one secured with WinAuth and the other with Google. I did this for my own reasons as I am sure I could have both on just one. So far I have only had to use the WinAuth one for my alternative account and I think that was because I last played it on another computer. It was very easy to set up and it is to use. You only seem to need it if your IP changes numbers which is usually when you travel somewhere else, or if you change desks (only kidding but that seems to have happened in my case). Your log in screen will prompt you for a code number which you then have to retrieve from your authenticator. It is very easy to use and probably won’t bother you much at all once it is set.

[MAC] looking to upgrade my macbook

Figlilly.3907

I don’t have a macbook pro though I believe they are lovely machines

I play on an IMac i7 with Nvidia graphics card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB. The graphics are gorgeous and it mostly does a good job except I have to lower my graphics setting to Best Performance whenever there are a lot of players at an event or it crashes. The game also crashes at other times too and this is a fairly recent thing. This can be when I am swapping characters or maps or sometimes just looking at the map. It is infuriating but I am stubborn and love my Mac and don’t want to turn it into a PC so I put up with the crashes.

I have a Windows laptop I can use but I hate playing on a small screen after the big one on my Mac.

I don’t know if that will be of use as the IMac and Macbook are two different beasts. At a guess, I imagine you will be able to play fairly well but maybe with some quirks along the way similar to how it is for me.

No hate from me

It’s not as convenient having two accounts. I have a second account and it is more of a nuisance than anything. I got it for reasons other than character slots and I have had it quite some time. I hardly use it any more though. There are many inconveniences but just off the top of my head, the most annoying ones are: you can’t share account bound items or the bank; you have to do two lots of dailies – if you have the time; and then, when there is a special event on, your second account will most likely dip out unless you have a lot of time to spend. My second account really is the poor cousin of my main account and I would love it if there was a way of merging them. I would much rather pay for extra character slots.

Moving to Mac. Any advice?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I use a Mac but I have been away from the game for a long while and only play very casually when I do drop in. Hopefully someone with more recent experience will be along.

The game plays pretty well and the graphics are lovely on the Mac but bear in mind that the Mac client is not native so you lose a bit of grunt compared to a PC. I have an i7 but even so, the game can crash or slow down to almost a standstill when there are a lot of players around. If I am at a big event, I change the graphic settings to Best Performance.

Don’t ever start the game from the window that might be left on the screen when you log out of a session or your camera will go wonky. That was so confusing to me when I first started

There is something else about turning scrolling gestures off too. Maybe this has long been fixed but I seem to remember that switching them on used to prevent you from scrolling forward and back when looking at a map.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head. Lots of luck and enjoy your new Mac.

I believe they do refund those but you will need to contact Support (top of the page). It is an easy mistake to make.
