Well, the flickering is still there and so is the ghosting. Turning off the Ambient Occlusion helps but it turns itself back on every time you restart the game.

Actually, mine is better. I have less choppiness. It feels a little smoother and faster. I didn’t see any ghosting or leaf flickering and I went to leafy places like the Grove and Mount Maelstrom.

No keyboard lockouts but then I don’t get many of them anyway.

Loading times are still slow though.

Tried using my husband’s old Logitech keyboard to see if it was something specific to my Apple keyboard, but nope. Still stopped working ten minutes in. …

This might be just voodoo magic but may be worth a try. Another poster in another thread suggested playing in Windowed mode rather than Full Screen to avoid the keyboard locking up. I have been trying that out but only for a couple of hours. So far though, no keyboard lockouts.

Wings look so ridiculous

I have over 20 characters. They all have a backpack of some sort or the other and a good percentage have wings. I have flappy wings, moth wings, butterfly wings, holographic wings, bat wings, dragon wings, sparkly wings and lovely big angel wings whose feathers tickle the noses of passers by. My only regret is that I can only play one character at a time.

The 64 bit Mac client is new and a work in progress and you have to hope it will improve and these issues and more will be addressed. At least we are finally on the way to a better game experience than we have had so far with this game.

I wish I could enjoy the Mac 64bit client but it is very choppy on my machine. Hopefully it will improve. Lions Arch is a nightmare to visit as is the Grove. Ugh. Still, I just did Maw and at fairly decent graphics too. It was crowded too being as it was one of the daily requirements. It was slow as treacle but no crashes.

Here’s an experiment for those of you hitting the keyboard bug: turn off autocorrect.

For newer versions of macOS this is in the Text tab of Keyboard Preferences.
For older versions of macOS this is in the Text tab of Language & Text Preferences.

Turning off the Ambient Inclusion got rid of my ghosting and it also alleviated most of the stuttering.

I have been testing the Mac 64 bit client for the past couple of days with mixed results. It is certainly more sluggish than the beta version. I have had a lot of choppiness, as others have mentioned, the key commands disappeared at one time, and today I had ghosting. I took a screen shot though it was worse live. You may see the ghost of a tree and a rock. These ghosts of the scenery would appear at random in front of my character. This was in Dredgehaunt Cliffs. The game played really badly there. Perhaps its all the falling snow.

Yesterday I played in Harathi and it was beautiful. I hardly noticed any lag and the graphics looked much prettier than I had ever seen.

I am on an iMac i7 3.4 ghz 8 GB Ram – late 2012 model.

Edit Unticking the Ambient Occlusion in the graphics options has made my game run so much better. No more ghosting graphics and the laggy stuttering has all but gone. I am feeling much better about this Mac version now

I have forty. I have completed the map on twenty characters. I had to get the WvW maps complete on the first two but the others were easier. I haven’t played for a while – having a break – but I think my twenty-first character is about half way complete.

I can’t say how long it took as I didn’t rush and sometimes I had several characters on the go doing separate maps.

It’s the part of the game that I enjoy. I don’t do dungeons or pvp or anything too taxing. Am happy to amble around grabbing a poi here or a vista there and the map fills in for me that way.

Neither of my pictures are very artistic but I do have my first picture ever taken on 7 Feb 2013. She was a shaky little girl back then and not very good at moving in a straight line.

My character has not progressed that much. Well, she got to level 80, attained map completion, finally finished her story. She even learned to walk through doorways without bumping into the walls but who cares because now she can glide. However, no legendary weapon and not even an ascended sock has come her way. She has gained around 20 siblings so that is something. I guess she now dreams of the heady days when she was an only child.

Why I believe gw2 fails miserably...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

It fails miserably? I do not think so.

The level scaling is the best thing about GW2. The low level areas stay relevant no matter what your level so you can help out guild mates or new players without stealing all the kills. Of course a real level 80 has the advantage of high level armour and weapons that a true low level does not have so there is still some imbalance, but on the whole, it is a great system.

No one-shot killers in this game, OP.

Why haven't you built a Legendary Weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I have no interest in them. I think they are beautiful and it is great that people put that sort of effort in either to craft them or get the gold to buy them, but it doesn’t appeal to me. If a precursor was to drop into my hands one day I would be as excited as the next person but I won’t hold my breath on that or fret about not having a legendary in the meantime.

Mac : Mac Pro supported?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I am sure it will be fine but you could contact Support (link at the top of the page) to be really sure. I seem to remember another player posting on here who had a Mac pro but that was many moons ago and I may be confused.

Although your machine looks like overkill, GW2 is run through a cider port on the Mac which means all that lovely ram you have will be wasted. I believe we only get the 32 bit version with all the memory problems that brings. Many Mac players use Bootcamp and say the game is like chalk and cheese once they switch to the dark side.

If you stick with the Mac side, you may find you have to lower your graphic settings to prevent memory error crashes. I have an IMac I7 and I lower mine to Best Performance, and then tweak them up a little so at least they are not too horrible.

The good news is Anet is working on a native Mac version though no one knows when that will be released.

Most of the time I am rolling my eyes at the map chat or feeling irritated by some noisy skill user in the bank but there are times when you just have to smile and all is forgiven. I stumbled on this impromptu dress up (or undress) party the other day and had a quiet chuckle.

On another game’s forum, someone asked the question of why bother with an online game when they look much the same as a game you play on your own. I actually used this pic to illustrate why I enjoy the whole online experience as much as I do.

QoL Idea: Account bound World Map Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Figlilly.3907

I think it would be a dreadful pity if anything like this was ever implemented. Tyria is a beautiful place and should be explored and savoured.

I am currently completing the map with my 20th character and I still find interesting corners, events or funny pieces of dialogue that I hadn’t seen or heard before.

I just think you would have an awful lot of bored players whining that there was nothing to do if you make it too quick and simple.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Figlilly.3907

Exactly!

While I think the people who complained about living story and pressed for an expansion did influence ANet to some degree, perhaps they realised on their own that providing content for free was not sustainable. I can’t see how it would be in a game where you can convert gold to gems and not spend a penny beyond the initial box price. Something has to put food on the table.

I HATE Mega Servers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

Well some of the servers would be empty. Back when I first started playing I was on Devona’s Rest. You could never get temple armour back then because the temples were always contested. Orr was mostly deserted. I guested to another server once for the Maw fight and I couldn’t believe the people at that fight. I had never seen such a crowd.

I seem to remember overflow maps though and if you crashed in a fight you could end up in a different map anyway when you came back.

No thanks, OP. Join a party or a squad. Megaservers are the best thing since sliced bread.

Well a native client was discussed on the AMA on Reddit. Here is a link to the summary:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/490u3k/missed_the_ama_heres_a_summary/

So, it does look hopeful that they might get it to work.

In the meantime, try lowering your graphics for the big fights. I put mine on Best Performance and then I tweak them a little so I can at least see the players in their outfits and not the generic base model figure. Although it isn’t an ideal solution and means I don’t have the lovely graphics my computer is capable of displaying, at least I don’t crash. As well, try to party up at the big fights then if you crash, you have a chance at re_entering the same map. Join a commander’s squad or party with a random.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Figlilly.3907

Oh yeah, whoever said level scaling I have to agree.

I know some people enjoy feeling insanely powerful when they go back to a low level area on a high level character and can one-shot everything, but I much prefer having meaningful fights (and being able to get XP and drops) wherever I go.

I also like that it means Anet can use all of the existing maps when creating new ‘end game’ content instead of having to restrict it to the level 80 maps or instances.

I would have to agree with the level scaling too. The funny thing is, before I bought GW2, I thought it would be a horrible way to play. I liked feeling powerful and one-shotting everything in the game I was then playing and couldn’t imagine not being able to do that. I soon got to appreciate it though. It is an inspired concept and means the low level areas will always be relevant no matter your level.

Figlilly.3907

Too funny, Ashen.

I sort of stumbled a little with one of my characters. I thought a good name for her (a Norn) would be Cold as Charity so I called her Charity Coldas. When I later rejoined my guildies they were all amused and asked about her cold bottom. I honestly didn’t see it when I named her. I am Australian and we don’t use that word for bottoms – well we do but it is spelt differently and pronounced with a long A. I have always hoped I don’t offend any sensitive soul who might see it and think I meant it differently.

How do you name your characters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

I wish I could claim to put as much thought into mine. I have a baby name book on my computer desk and usually I just thumb through that when I need a name.

My favourites though, are names that popped into my head at the time and did not come from the book. They don’t follow any particular lore but I like them. I have a Sylvari named Raindrops on Roses. At the time she was created the song from the Sound of Music was stuck in my head and it seemed a pretty name for a little leaf person. I also have a Norn I named Frozen Sunlight because I figured it might seem to a Norn parent that everything else can freeze so why not a ray of sunshine.

However, I am not happy with the majority of my characters’ names especially the ones from my first year of playing. They were often named with a ’that’ll do’ attitude and none of them follow any sort of theme. I would rename them all if it wasn’t so expensive.

Thought i would spell it out for em.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Figlilly.3907

Figlilly.3907

Purposely ignoring the dailies is not something I can comfortably do. I like achievements. Some people like to make lots of gold or beat raid bosses; I hang out for the numbers. I am aware that eventually I will get the max amount available and maybe that will be liberating, but in the meantime, I sigh as once again I have to troop over to a low level area to vie with the newbie players in getting a shot in at an event. Too bad if you are on a slow connection because blink and the event is over.

I am grateful to Anet that we have a good choice of dailies and I do realise it could be a lot worse, however, as the OP has said, the daily events can be a pain if you are short on time or your schedule does not align with a the major event for that day.

I miss doing the dodge rolling or killing the ambient creatures. Those were good times.
