Meh – damage or change is done – we’ll see how it goes on Tuesday. I’m just wondering how the trapper runes will work post patch. I really enjoy the trap runes now due to their utility. Not sure how the stealth/speed mechanic is going to work or if it will remain the same.

If it remains the same and you can 3 seconds after the delay then it will be fine and they will be good. If it is not, then time to pick another set.

Simply, they wont, why?

I’ve tried it for few days now, and it’s horrible, you get cough every time, no way to engage with trap, no way to defend yourself with trap, no way to tactical approach with trap, and there is definitely no FUN, in this new build, which is most important thing that we forget, sometimes what is fun, is not right, and what is not OP should stay as it is.

I don’t understand why people say that things are not realistic while they play fantasy game. But if people complain about, I’m having a nice solution and nice play style change.

I don’t understand one thing, for example, why is necro well ok? To be ground target-able? And they are able to use trait to set a huge ground spike, and we are not aloud to use simple traps, and throw them ? I’m not against total demolition, but SIMPLY WHY does every class have to be jack of all trades?

Why can’t one class be better then other in something? Why do guardians get way better traps then rangers? And guardians aren’t even master of traps? Why do guardians have elite trap and rangers don’t, while they are number one class that relies more on traps then pets in fantasy world? And Why can’t be one class unique and better in something that they main role.

Definition of ranger is a master of tracking and master of bow, after that there is beast-mastery as companion, which means tracking and trapping is more important to ranger then actual pet. So i don’t see bigger picture why rangers cannot be masters of what they truly are? A tracking survival hunter with amazing.

Thief’s were never master of traps but they got traps? Thief’s are masters of disarming traps, lock-picking, poison, stealth and quick assassination, but not masters of making traps or setting them up, but they still have them.

So i wonder, why did guardian get traps? Not that i have anything against that? But still It makes no sense to me. I would clearly love to see utility, heal, and elite to become an ranger specialization as dragon hunter.

I’m slowly losing arena net and idk where they are going, but what i’ve noticed over years, every thing that is fun, is removed, anything that is annoying – stays. Everything that requires little skill to master, they remove, and make it more simple, for more casual use.

What i expect from future, expansions (not from Heart of Thorns), but the next one..
I expect option, for casual use and master (advanced use), traps are good example, even in this thread i’ve seen that people don’t know much about trapper, many of them feel that traps are useless when they are throw-able any ways, but in my eyes, ground-target-able traps are advanced tactics that make TRAPPER as fun class.

R.I.P Trapper, it was fun to enjoy you, sadly, your time is over. (specially stealth trapper)

They were similar to engie Nades, and I have to say I kinda liked that really. Since there’s 3 professions (that we know as of now) that use traps, it wouldn’t be too fair to have one that has the ability to throw them, even at the cost of a trait. I both like and dislike the changes they’re bringing to ranger traps, but still feel they could get something more.

I’m not seeing how it’s unfair. Let’s look at another example: Currently all classes besides Engineer have signet utilities, yet only Elementalist can retain the passive bonuses whether the signet has been activated or not, if traited. I don’t, however, feel that this is unfair to my Ranger or my Warrior, or…well, you get the idea. It is an extra benefit that that particular class may enjoy. Thieves will now have traps that do not unstealth them when triggered, which my Ranger will not have, apart from the new Healing Spring, perhaps. I also can’t exactly teleport like a thief, so why can’t I have a mechanic that they don’t, as well?

In my mind, this is quite a nerf for WvW, especially. Apart from the Runes of the Trapper thing, this change literally leaves one skill in the entire Ranger kitten nal that is a ground-targeted AoE (for wall fights, for instance)—Barrage. Before, if you could get close enough to the wall, traps were able to be tossed up there and provide pressure. I hope that that taunt trait has sufficient range to pull people off of walls, elsewise it looks like I’ll have to give up on the idea of being a damage dealer and swap to the role of team mascot with the occasional Allies’ Aid resurrection in such situations. Or maybe the new spirits will give me something to do in that 24/30 second window between Barrages besides look pretty (and yes, I know that Quick Draw can bring that down to 8/10 seconds one time, but still)? Hah!

All I see this nonthrowable traps change doing is killing a fun and unique playstyle and build diversity. Maybe I’m wrong, and I’d love to find out that that’s the case come the update, but I’m not seeing it now.

Exactly this, we have no aoe skills that would make us useful, and the only thing we had to not risk to go in melee range, is now gone. Sadly they want to make ranger-ranged… but we are from update to update to play more closer then ever..
I’m so disappointed that aNet decision is to rather remove mechanics, then implement something unique for every class.

Like removal of spirit movement wasn’t enough we are bounded to brainless tactics now. Unless you are really dumb, you won’t chase the ranger into the trap where he stands.. sadly i’m not surprised.. Anet is lately ruining everything that had some sense of “FUN” in the the build..

Well, that totally screws up Runes of the Trapper.

No more wise trap spreading to avoid reveals, keeping the cycle and luring into traps.

You are absolutely mistaken my friend. If you watch more carefully to a change you will notice this:
1) Trap activation time is same that was before, so you can use traps as 1,2,3 with 8-9 sec stealth.
2) Arming time isnt the same that activation skill time. It is great for STEALTH trapper, because now activated trap used to reveal you in same time when pulsed (except frost), but since they all cause cripple etc they all will reveal on hit after update, so technically with this change , ranger gets extra 0.5 sec of 100% unrevealed stealth time after you used trap. In my thought it is great.

Overall i can say that these changes have some intrigue. Time will show how ranger will show himself in WvW against other classes. Now it is too early to say that ranger has been nerfed.

no matter what u say, one most importent thing what people forget about is FUN , and they nerfed FUN.. it was fun to throw traps, and change from longbow from time to time, and enjoy something else.. sadly everything that is not 11111 anet nerfs or reworks.. SHAME.

Having played trapper ranger for basically the last six months, there are certainly some really fun things that will be gone now:
- Getting under people fighting on stairs, walkways, etc and throwing traps up at them
- Putting traps on the walls of a tower to keep defenders away or even kill them
- Being able to toss a trap to the side with trappers runes so that the opponent DID NOT run over it so that I could keep my stealth
- Being able to put traps on hills or walls in PVE content to just let me run through more quickly and avoid hitting creatures (again using the super speed and stealth of trapper runes)
- Standing beside a doorway and tossing traps into the opening

You can argue whether those uses are actually “being traps” or not. But they allowed a bit of learning and creativity in the use of a skill that I will miss.

This. Sadly very little ppl play this type of build … anet wont even notice us, i wish we were more respected because this play-style is so passionate that i cannot express myself enough.. well said… Anet senpai notice us!

throwing traps gone…BUT you now knockdown with spike trap and deal 33% more damage with poison and bleed through traits, AND all of your traps cripple.

plus you take A THIRD less damage above 90% health,
plus 5% less damage whenever you have regen,
and when they hit you you cause weakness and gain prot.

how are you not buzzing with anticipation for this?

its like tanky condi heaven.

I don’t play afk tank. I enjoy mechanics. Removing something so amazing is plain stupid and they seem to not think about enjoyment of rangers that actually enjoy trapper with passion. Being not able to side place traps will destroy trapper stealth ranger.. I don’t know what they are thinking but i hope this moves to druid trait line, i hope he will be master of rooting and trapping … not some shaman mage copy of WoW…………….

New pets to tame in HoT? Cosmetic options?

I would expect pet skins, and more pets to be tamed simply because if they don’t that’s a major shame… Then they should give us 10 pets at first.. running 6 years with same pets would be freaking cheap way of representing ranger.. and most of them are like 6 viable pets.

to answer your first queston: once the trap has been placed, there is a 0,5sec delay until the trap can trigger.

about throwable traps: i think it makes sense to not be able to throw traps. It’s a much needed nerf IMO since trapper ranger was awfully strong in WvW roaming! One of the more cheesy builds for sure. You could always keep your range, kiting, and still hit traps very easily by throwing them.
Another nerf would be frost trap now pulsing damage -> reveals stealth

That being said, trapper ranger also got a few really nice buffs:
- bigger trigger radius and effect radius
- healing spring is now a trap skill (!!!!!), this gives us active condi removal so we don’t rely on passive removal from traits anymore -> more build variety!
- overall buffs on traps damage and condition durations

I think that those changes will make the trapper ranger less cheesy but it will still be strong and fun to play.
The only one thing that i really strongly dislike is that the super speed from trapper runes will not affect our movement skills (GS #3, sword #2,…) anymore. That might be the biggest nerf of all.

I kind of don’t appreciate the changes because they will destroy the mechanically most amazing ranger build. I still don’t see a reason why they removed the trap ground targeting. They could simply make ranger traps default throw-able and enlarge trigger to 1 second. Since ranger is master of hunting and traps. Ranger is more of trapper master then companion (pet master).

I don’t see Druid having trapper option to throw traps cuz guardian have the trap stuff this time. Sadly if ranger is getting chased he wont be able to get away any more. because he cannot place traps on the side so enemy wouldn’t walk on them and reveal you. It’s also an offensive nerf because you could drop spike trap on thiefs shadowstep, so he would get cough when he would try to back, that0s just one example of tactics.. it’s going to be so casual and non-mechanic again.. i hate it.. On the other hand we apply even harder mechanics i’m looking at u REVENANT, while ranger is getting removed basics.. Wish they would remove pet, since it’s dumb anyways. Hope the AI fix will be really what they tell us.

That’s not entirely true. Frost trap will reveal you if triggered, and it’s going to be a lot harder to hide in stealth since you can’t throw the traps off to the side anymore.

I really wish they were doing a better job of trying to balance things with these upcoming trait changes instead of trying to fit them into some thematic element.

This right here, i really think they have destroyed trapper ranger with that removal. I think throwing traps should be default and make trigger time 1 second. still better option to me.

What they made now is:

  • break all the mechanics that trapper ranger had
  • you cannot throw trap any more to engage target, now you have to go full melee to do your thing.
  • your escape is punished, there is no more mechanics to engage or disengage, because enemy always knows your position if you try to stealth with trapper runes.

    So basically trapper and spirit ranger got nerfed even thought changed got some side effect buffs but mechanics that made things fun are gone.

We are slowly losing good mechanics that made ranger diverse:

  • movable spirits
  • ground targeting traps

ArenaNet please reconsider your changes about trapper and i’m offering solution:
Make all traps arm time 0.5 > 3/4 (0.75)sec or even 1 sec. But make it default throwable. Keep mechanics viable and in game! Don’t remove your amazing mechanics for love of amazing combat that this provided!

I’ve been enjoying trapper ranger a lot, and i haven’t pay any attention on changes lately, but i did read them now, and got little confused, can some one give me some explanations:

  • traps have 0.5 arming time
    Does that mean ranger has to stand still for 0.5sec and place it on the ground OR does this mean when you put it on the ground they will trigger 0.5sec after you place them down.
  • traps are no longer ground target-able
    To me personally, throwing traps made trapper ranger unique, and elegant to play.
    I’m really curious why would they remove this mechanics that made this play style unique? Just because guardian specialization got traps, and Anet team consider to remove ground targeting on ranger just because guards can’t do it? Did they really break trapper ranger just because they didn’t want to make guardian players feel bad about ranger traps, because they would be superior ?

Currently i’m very disappointed and i’m enjoying my last days of trapper ranger. It’s braking the only good mechanics that made this class play-style unique:S I’m really disappointed about this changes.

Ascended Gear - Anet please fix this.

Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….

Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.

Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.

To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear (weapons and armor) next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.

I was so excited for +10%.. because after all ascended gear is 500gold while exotic is 5gold if u buy it in wvw….
Idea of +10% bonus felt like appropriate bonus which is worth of the time spend and invested in ascended gear crafting. I wonder why did you guys change your mind :/?

I guess maybe with this change people will start doing more fractals (maybe it’s Anet plan to make people going into fractals)

If they fix them so people can’t park them up there, i’m totally fine with that, and i would love to have JPs changed…

For example:
On beginning of every JP, there is a NPC, that would require to talk to him, to acquire a key. that key would expire in estimated time, lets say JP takes 30 min to finish, it would expire in 2x time of JP. So in order to open final chest, you would have to use that key. JPs would be repeatable and rewarding, without options to use parking to WPs.

We need solution to fix JPs and make them farmable, i enjoy jumping, and i feel i should be rewarded a little bit more for what i enjoy..

Some require boss fights, which require no special mechanics to kill it. Why shouldn’t i be rewarded for running JPs ?

Sorry, you have more then enough “easy” content in tyria, i think Expansion HoT should be hardcore and people coming there should be ready for wild wipe. Where casual people have to move out of comfort zone and actually dodge sometimes, it’s a SHAME how easy events are… you guys are insulting me/us players with this low artificial intelligence of bosses. :S

I’m not saying you should do events long and insanely hight HP so we have ot hit it 3 years before it’s dead. I just want mechanics and people to actually work together to achieve something… i’m tired of “scatterer boss events” where ppl stack on the side and just press 11111. Please aNet be more respectful and give us Coloque Queen from Dry top with better mechanics… People who don’t dodge should get 60-100% hp dmg..

I mean, im not the one who lose if i dont have a game that i dont want XD.
In fact they will lose me as consumer, nothing else.

I just dont see the logic in your reasoning.
GW2 is easy and we bought it, and we play it.
Why making a challenging expansion is going to atract people who bought and play Gw2? if its going to be a different kind of game!

I agree with you that the game, gw2, is easy. And thats why it is a sucess, imo.
And as i say, i hope that im the only one who thinks this way, and people jump into challenging content as crazy. But i already did my prediction: it won’t work. And either they won’t sell as expected or they will have to nerf it and make casual-changes in the future.

And let me finish saying that what i have seen so far from HoT is not difficult. Im not talking about that kind of challenge. What i saw is time consuming events, event chain of 2 hours. Anticasual play. Thats what im talking about.

Compare the cow events in gw2, with the 1 hour chain event in DT, with the 2 hours chain event in east side of Verdant brink. Thats the progression that im watching, and i dont like it at all. All events are easy, but each time are less and less casual cause of the time required to complete them and the number of people needed to complait them.

they are cool, i play in DT and SW. But just as the exception, not as the norm. the game should not be a bunch of 2 hour events. And if it is, no problem, i just have to not buy it.

Sorry Anet stated itself that PvE people are the one that come and go, PvP people are those that stick with the game no matter what. The sad part is many people would want to play PvE just because they think, and ME also, that Arena Net is capable of making interesting challenging content that casual people would enjoy also, and we all know that people that are casual would step up! We don’t need to make this game full casual! This is lame and bad excuse! If you want to stay casual you fear of some kind of challenge that could make you better, you fear to feel accomplished and you know it!

I will add we want our open world content experience to be more challenging as well just in general. Though the AI was better in our CBT experience – we think we still have a lot of work to do to get our creatures and encounters even at the start of Verdant Brink up to where we want them to be. Our game has great combat, our creatures and encounters should challenge and require you to use that combat system.

Ok, but just please remember that your player base is mainly casual and we want and like cooperative/solo easy and happy play.
Im sure you in Anet knows it (proof of that is all the nerfing in the last 3 years in difficulty, dailies and logging rewards… etc)

I feel someone has to say something about it cause forums are the playground for people who want changes, who doesnt like the game too much.
But what about the ones who actually like it just as it is?

I understand that you guys want to make it a little harder so people who demands that (a challenging game) come back to the game, but don’t go too far on that direction or you’ll may loose everyone (cause you know, haters are gonna hate, and lovers can hate too)
Just saying.

I personally dont like games where you need hours and days to finish one piece of content or where you need to improve your skills and try/fail, try/fail and try/fail.
I work, i have a life, a family and i don’t have too much time to spend on “challenging content” in a game.
But it is actually beyond that, it is not that i just cant play that way, it is that i dont want to XD. Some people just like easy game play. And im sure you anet has figures and numbers and you know what kind of players do you have and what they actually like.

If HoT is going to follow that “challenging” path (even if is not challenging enough, wich i suspect) I may reconsider buying it. The good thing about buying and paying for an expansion is that the ball is in the consumer roof at this point. We can decide what kind of game we want to buy or not so, if you want to give us difficult content… it is good to know

Before, I didnt actually expect HoT to be challenging or difficult, I took all this words just as a marketing strategy to bring more people into the game. The more the marrier, and i agree.

But after seeing that beta cycle, where day/night took 2 hours (2 hours of gameplay for just one event chain it is no casual at all, even when the events were easy. The chain events for SW and DT are already long enough in my opinion, so imagine 2 hours…)… and now reading this words from Colin… im starting to think that they actually have decided to make the game less casual and more challenging.

Of course im sure it will never be as challenging as people who likes challenging games demand, but it may be enough challeging (specially in “time terms”) for the casual playerbase.

Time will tell i guess.
Hopefully the game stay casual and people who enjoy GW2 can enjoy (and buy ) HoT.
If not, i just hope that you at least reach the standars of what challenging people demands, otherwise you may disappoint everyone.

Simply put: we haven’t announced it yet – when we’re ready to show everything about our plans for challenging content for HoT, we’ll announce it.

My numbers were made up to make a point. NOBODY is going to allow anyone to invest significant resources without 2 things:

1) An insurmountable problem that MUST be fixed.
2) A significant return in potential revenue.

Neither of those apply here. The game as it is is NOT suffering for lack of DX11 support (it is NOT a MUST for the game to continue).

The other side of this is supporting multiple versions since they certainly CAN NOT discontinue support for the DX9 version. Despite what most player seem to think, that would actually INCREASE their recurring costs as well (having to test any change at least twice….having to do EVERYTHING twice).

Not gonna happen.

Is that so?
WvW players can’t play normally, people with latest gear run Witcher3 that requires tons of money invested into new pcs. and they can run it with 100FPS..
GW2 can’t be run with 100FSP in wvw, like EVER..

And as much as i would love to say that you are right, there is tons of code that has to be fixed and redone correctly.

It feels like aNet is selling us DLC, which is sadly far from expansion!
I expected bosses to be more challenging with new mechanics, not just CC bar, but actual AI (Artificial Intelligence) behaviour, they don’t hit hard enough to even force you to dodge, you can “in your face” all the dmg, but that’s not even the point. Static non-movement creatures are making me not even want to go in HoT PvE.

What i’m expecting from GW2 AI creatures:

  • zoning mechanics
  • area control mechanics
  • special combinations to defeat enemy
  • higher DPS from mobs to force people to dodge
  • more Dry Top Coloque Queen mechanics
  • non-static smart path finding and decision making
  • faster damage target changing and applying more pressure on player
  • NO MORE EASY CONTENT THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH BY AFK-ING THE EVENT

Where is the content that they called challenging for “non-casual” players in HoT?
“Beautiful content is not enough for me, where are the AI-npc mechanics that were promised?, Artificial Intelligence of creatures is under expectation of 2015 era..”

Sorry but no, jsut no, opening a shop to sell bread IRL would first of all require a shop to sell from which would cost a LOOOOOT of money in itself, and then you need to get a “business license” (not sure what the correct name is for it really) before you even allowed to, among a lot of other stuff, so it is FAR from that simple

You went to deep in way of thinking, i’m just saying that you still have option if you want to, that’s my point.

Some pretty serious flaws in the OP.

1) if no one can afford it then the flippers couldnt sell it.

2) as you pointed out we are not talking about survival necessities here.

3) if flippers are making a ton of money then people are buying what they have to sell at the prices they set.

Your entire complaint is predicated on an assumption that is not only demonstrably false, but which you admit to be false in your post.

1) You interpretate things wrong on purpose to throw the topic out of context. Lets say it this way. You earn 600€ you can spend those, but pppl that made 200k€ will have money to control the money and you as a low rank player that has highly any clue of the game, and what’s going on with the market, you’ll make this flippers rich, just because they can abuse this, instead of going out and sell things to people that they need. Concept of trading went partially wrong as it was intended.

2) Exactly you don’t need to craft ascended armor or exotic but you can get random stats from karma, or drops, so my point is still valid, you can get things to play the game, but to actually play the game as it is intended you need stats to make your build work out. Food, for example i NEED cactus soup in order to deliver what GvG commander demands from me, and its 1Gold per 30 min food, which is rather inflated for the materials that were predicted to be used and highly flipped.

3) I don’t understand your point right here, because sentence is shopped, can we collaborate this one again?

Sadly you gave me no good arguments to prove me wrong at an point, please give me some constructive argument so we can discuss if you desire so.

Now, I’m only so much of an expert on economics, what with playing videogames with economies and generally existing in the world, but from the sound of it you don’t understand how flipping works at all.

Sadly i know how it works, and I know how big of an issue this is.
I dare to say, that open world would give us noticeable change if aNet decides to break flipping for a month.

The difference to TP flipping and your real world analogy is that in game, anybody has the ability to TP flip or undermine a TP flipper.

If you don’t want to buy your bread at 25 euros, put a bid in for less. If you don’t want to buy an item at an extortionate rate, don’t. Just be patient.

As expected, you miss understand the point.
People abuse the buy and sell option, and avoid playing the actual game.

Buy sell trade tax should be higher, so people would actually use trading post when they need it. People actually play trading post game at least 1-5 hour per day. Trading post flipping went so far, that almost every one does it even if they deny it, even myself, because you can earn 100x more gold in few hours that you would earn in 1 week.

And I desire to stop this, so people actually go out there, and use the purpose of exploring, so people would think as trading post as something that they use when they need it, not to abuse it for making gold.

And for your argument, every one can open own store and sell bread too.

Playing a trading post game or “flipping” as we call it should be prevented, why?
Because it’s ruining gaming experience for every one.

Lets keep it real trading is one thing.
Buying extremely low items and resell them hundreds of times more expensive over and over again so people can’t effort them any more is other thing.

But don’t people do that in real life?
Well concept is the same, but tax is not realistic.

Example of how this would look in real life:
Imagine that one company would buy every bread on the world for lets say from 1€-5€, all breads on market… and sell them at price of 25€. Water, 1L=20cents.. company again buys all the water, and sells it at 5€. You are hard working person, and lets make this real life example where you earn (lets say looking at my country) 600€ per month. If you want to eat bread every day you’ll pay 750€(by current market price), but then you have to drink too ? right ? But you can’t effort it?! Because you already work hard to get this 600€ per month, so what to do next? You find new job, you get 2000€ payment, finally you get enough money to eat and drink every day, but then more market flippers came, and suddenly bread is 100€, and water is 50€, and you can’t effort to eat and drink again. You try so hard to find new job, but every time you do, you market price rises extremely.. You are desperate and you don’t enjoy game no more, you only work to eat and drink.. But then one day you decide to play the market game (trading post), and you see that HOLY COW, you can make tons of money, but WAIT?! You sadly notice one thing, you don’t do the job that you did enjoy so much, you notice that all you do is trade, to get enough money for your every day needs.

People would say, but then you go out and farm for yourself, I do. And what you want is luxury not a simple need! Indeed, but why would you ever try to go out and explore world and farm for yourself, if you can earn tons of gold just by flipping the market?

What does this story tell you? Maybe that, flipping is getting to the point that every one is doing it and this triggers the chain reaction of crashing the trading post so badly that people start to play more trading post then actually play the game. More and more people are involved into this and sadly, game stays the same, gold flow is the same, money sink is the same, but the trading post inflation is getting out of hand.

Trading post should help us buy or sell things, not exploit it and abuse it to avoid playing the actual game.

TL:DR: Trading post “flipping” is ruining the gaming experience for every one.

LB range bug. when the fix?

Long Bow range goes far past 1500 and has for a while.

When will this be patched?

It’s not a bug, it’s your unawareness of the game system. Every projectile works the same way, try it with thief and you’ll be surprised that goes further then it “should”… game has physics and it uses that on amazing way.

For example, lets take real life example.
English Longbow range = 370m
Lets say you shoot down the hill, your arrow will fly further then bow range limit.
Same goes for the range if wind blows in direction of an arrow.

@OP, You are not the only one that is disappointed, many of us still waits for GvG, and to be honest, many of us does play WvW just for a gvg reason, because we can arrange fights there. If anet takes that away from us with no open field, many of us will probably quit WvW & GW2.

But i’m patient and i still hope and wait that anet Adds GvG.

Do note that the guild wars fanbase uses two very different definitions for ‘GvG’. The first definition is GvG as it was in GW1: relatively small scale ( 8 vs 8 ) organized pvp matches where the objective was to kill the opposing guild lord (the combination of leaderboards and stronghold make this somewhat a reality in GW2). The second definition is GvG as it is practiced in WvW in GW2: relatively large scale combat in large open areas where the objective is just death match (I think?).

Please, IF you did maybe read my quite, it should tell you enough about me.
If i could compare you with Game of Thrones character, i would pick Jon Snow.
Stronghold IS NOTHING like GvG GW1.
WvW GvG/Scrims is the closest, but effort that we put in to actually fight, is insane.

WvW GvG/Scrim today:
- you have to find an enemy in specific week (WvW server rotations)
- you have to find area where to find, because there are only hand full of spots
- you will have problems because Obsidian Sanctum is almost never free
- if you don’t get OS, you’ll have problems in open WvW map because zerg will come to you
- you will get trolled, and people will add in on purpose to ruin your fights
- you get only one reward for this, busting your nastalgic bar

If you sum up entire thing, we put more effort into this then people that do most challenging content like Fractal50 or TT. Nothing can compare to this, and yet we are trolled and anet doesn’t give a single F to make our dream mode come true.

Not worth.
- PvP gets boring because there is not enough death match and we have to many capture the point boring modes
- WvW depends on what server are you
- PvE is just plain boring, BoSSes didnt change at all, all are same “stupid-AI” as they were, no advanced logic implemented. Fractals once you hit 50 it gets old after to many runs.

Yes we have amazing pvp system, and that’s about it.

TL;DR: game is still casual to its finest, so if you look for quality PvE, u might look at wrong game.

I agree, Daydreamer set in general looks the best so far! BUT, i can’t get over myself here.. and i have to express myself, why are last 4 Longbow releases so CHEAP and BORING looking, so THIN that what ever effect you add, its not even visible?

TL;DR: PLEASE, show some love to Longbow, and spend 5 more min while designing them, because they are horrible :S

EDIT: Just look last 4 weapon releases of LONGBOW, it’s a joke..

Locked Cultural armors aren't logical

I like that cultural armour is worn only by race that is designed for, I want that every race has something unique, and It feels right way. What bothers me the most are OUTFITS, they have so many good parts, and would combine with so many parts.

One might say, Clipping, but, did you took your time and check all the combinations of armours on every class? I’ve found so much clipping that It got me frustrated to the point that we were not able to build Guild armour theme as we desired.

EDIT: OOWHHHH almost forgot…
Let me state also that, some parts are WAY OVERSIZED on some characters.. and some are just out of shape and they simply look stupid. For example Norn female and Human female same boots (Armaggedon heavy boots) and they are way oversized, take a look for yourself, u’ll be surprised.

Could our own, real-life military wage war on Mordermoth and its minions and win? Based on our highest available technology (aka USA army much), with helicopters, fighter jets, artillery, infantry and tanks, but not nuclear weapons.

Thought? Every USA soldier would die in vein, because they would not even try to settle piece, but always answer with a gun.

Gandara 5sec skill lags WVW

After more then 1 month, we would really love to see what numbers did anet get from the testing and bug fixing, the result after 1 month are still the same:

  • 35ping( which is normal)
  • 5 seconds skill delay ( unplayable)
  • rubber bending of players
  • people with the same effect (30+ ppl on gandara + every enemy that we got in contact)

Sincerely, nothing has changed, and words like “we are working on it” are just not enough any more, Imagine Tequatl people having the same problems, and there would be no words or solution for months.

General lack of good medium sets on male

All we have is like huge amount of bad looking copy paste long cape medium clothes.
What i would like to see in near future is something like this:

1)first set of female and male armours. they both look amazing, and rangers could use some heavy look on medium armour because in many cases rangers were equipped and shielded for battle, and i see we could totally use armours that would be more shielded then usual for upcoming adventure into Maguuma jungle.

2) 2nd and 3rd set, more exposure on female and male, this armours look sick and we need something different then we had till now, design team should take a look into this because those are really master piece.

I think currently medium armours have way to many cape styles and NONE that would actually look good + walking animation is just bad which turns me away from using it every time that i actually try to wear it..

I think some of armour are really well done in this game, but medium male armours are horribly designed, this armours on picture are prof that medium set can be designed better and capes that can actually look good (set1 male and set3 male) PLUS… MORE NONE CAPED ARMOURS ty.

Also i hope we get a lot more good PvP reward tracks that would give us unique armours.

TL:DR We need some new fashion running (not outfits), and update cape walk/ run animation because it looks kind of generic.

WvW Map Cap 10% lower

READ AND NOTE, IT’S WALL OF TEXT BUT IT’S REALITY AND IT’S A SHAME:
To ALL people that think this helped and ArenaNet, sincirely.
For more then 2 weeks you are testing this theory of limiting numbers on borders.
So far we had every day a HUGE fight in EB since we are T1 server (Gandara) and let me tell you that limiting server numbers did not solve the rubber bending, skill lag and disconnects, nothing really changed it’s only annoying as hell for populated servers to get limited.

Let me tell you what you’ve done ArenaNet. In WvW we have 4 maps, yes i know you know it, BUT, EB is the place where people most queue for, home border is where people mostly AFK and wait for EB queue to pop AND other two borders are mainly for closed raids of guilds.
Now what have you really done? You limited borderlands for 20% and lets say our home-border is GREEN, then blue and red is meant for raids, guilds usually start raiding at evenings around 20:00, what this means for a guild, we have to queue 20 min before raid to a border just to get 15 people guild into same border without being let out, and pray for not getting disconnect, IF we do, we are out in queue for 90 minutes.. which can mean end for your raid for this evening.. On the other hand, if there is attack on home-borderland there is NO WAY to save it, because there is normally 15-30 people AFK @main way-point. They don’t respond on HELP calls in map/team chat, and people that want to help, are stuck in queue, so we are left like with 20 people vs double our numbers..
The worst part of this limitation? Guilds that raid on same border, at the same time, did start to whisper other guilds, to stop raiding, call names, and insult people because they couldn’t get people in the same border. Things went so far, that guilds are insulting each other instead of helping the server. They leave each other to die when there is outnumbered fight, and they could fight together to make it even, but in return they let them fail alone, and they just retreat like nothing happened.

TL;DR, ArenaNet fixed nothing on T1 servers, they caused only to:

  • AFK people on home-border
  • people in home border cannot defend because there is normally around 20 people afk, and do not respond on help calls, and other people cannot queue in because of those afk ppl.
  • people that raid on same border at the same time, they start insulting other guilds that try to raid there
  • skill lag, rubber-bending and disconnects did not leave even where there is no huge fights
  • ping to google from EU to NA is 35ms, ping to EU server is normally 100, and it’s EU server.. but from 19-0:00 there is always rubber-bends and ping up to 600-1000ms for entire server.

You fixed null, nothing, zero.. So please reverse changes, imagine PvE limitation on 50 people Teq, people would be sick of it a lot sooner then 14 days… People would tear you apart if this would happen in PvE and you know it.. so sincerely reverse the fix and start working on fix harder. People who play GW2 only for WvW like me, don’t deserve this kind of punishment. Thank you for reading.

Ive spoken on this issue countless times.. but i cannot stress this enough, gw2 was a amazing game before feature pack 2. the NPE caused a huge amount of changes, like the inability to unlock skills when we wanted to, the removal of alot of fun content in the starting zone, a duty finder type pvp qeue system, the removal of underwater combat in pvp, stories unlocking every 10 levels, and now the trait system.. this never was a thing even one year into gw2’s release, im not bashing on anything you’re doing. im just saying its bothering me to see these changes are impacting the game to such a degree that it goes against its original design.

Hi there, Traits are actually good change.
They provide a lot more good stuff, it’s true, some changes are annoying, but this one is perfectly fine with awesome rework and creation of new awesome playstyles.

Just wait, u’ll see this is going to be great. BUT i agree on other stuff that got changed in past, it’s annoying and frustrating…

Can you remove chest farming in silverwastes?

Can you do something to stop chest farming? It’s exploiting a map and annoying to those of us trying to actually do the map. They cause the difficulty to be bumped up to the point where those trying to do things like defend forts can’t do it because of all the players around that aren’t helping. It’s annoying and aggravating that between map jumpers that only stay on maps near completion and chest farmers it’s near impossible to do silverwastes in the way it was supposed to be done.

It’s exploiting the map and the people and I don’t think chest farming or taxi’ing should be allowed to still work. They need to be changed to discourage this unfriendly and harassing behavior.

My friend, I msut tell that there is a lot of non PVE people coming to do SW and DT, i’m PvX person, and i’m laughing that my butt will crack when i see what people do, and how people are excited for PvE and SW in general.

Please note before you come on forums and try to ruin perfectly fine chest farming:
1) ask what map is it, if it’s chest, just go on LFG and find SW map.
2) after VW is dead, map sometimes turns into chest farm if there is no other map
3) there is never more then 1 map
4) there is increased rate of chest farm only now, when people want beta keys
5) Note for next time, if u don’t know how things work, ask, rent is not a good thing..
NOTE: One more thing, make yourself a favour, If some things are new for you… I bet you came from wvw or pvp ( not judging just giving example ), ask people how stuff works and people will explain it to you, pls stop making this kind of threads because they are an salty joke.

Is Ranger in WvW underwhelming to you?

I’ve been playing my ranger recently (power ranger LB/GS build) over my ele and it feels very underwhelming. Barrage and Entangle are the only AoE we have that “matters” in blob v blob fights, as well as the small AoE rapid fire provides if you take piercing arrows.

Do you guys feel useful at all to your group? I run with an organized guild group most of the time with 10-15 people and 99% of the time I find me telling myself “Man, if I was on my ele for this fight I would be a lot more useful to the group”. Rapid fire is crazy burst, sure, but it’s single target.

Was just curious as to what you guys think. I really do enjoy playing ranger, and I could just be over thinking the whole thing.

Then you are just under-skilled ranger.
I’m 1800 hours ranger, and when we 15v15 I can destroy whole melee group stacking there for empower, you can snipe what ever you want. disable enemy mesmer if you play gvg and so on so on.. Your main problem is GS, it’s overrated weapon it’s not even best choice at the moment. Play around with first 3 trait lines and u’ll fine an overpowered build, i won’t tell you what, but there is insane good build for gvg and wvw.

You need more practice and don’t jsut spam rapid.
OHHHHH i’ve almost forgot!
*MY friend… RANGER is NOT a support class, so stop looking at it and expecting from ranger to support the group. Each class has own presence in fight, why does no1 expect any support from thief? Just cluster stealth.. that’s it. *

Ranger is made to kill, and it’s made to hunt, not to support 1279’86857 other people in the zerg, sure you can, but ranger purpose was never to deliver help to the group, your help is in shape of damage and massive cripple if u use correct food.

If u dont have ele in your composition, you surely need it, but if u have one, you MUST have a ranger. Rangers are underrated, and many times you die easily because many guys think every ranger is bear bow ranger scrub, but we are not sorry

RaO becoming a shouts [MUST]

i’d keep RoA as 80sec cooldown and 15secs Rampage time.
then you’d trait for shouts cooldown (if there is one in the new trait system)
then you’d have RoA on 64sec cooldown with 15sec of rampage time.

the problem will be on a low ish cooldown like 60secs it can be traited to 48secs and it also reduces to amount of time we get stability on the 10sec rampage timer.

Since the 3sec intervals are linked to the Rampage timer , we’d have 9secs of stability total or 3 x intervals or 3×3= 9 stacks over 9secs .

stability window will be tiny so i’d think it would ether need to be 15secs or 20secs still on the 80sec cooldown , due to the lack of stability only other source being Sotw.

just a cooldown reduction to 80secs would be perfect with no other changes to keep the stability window the same size, its not much of a rampage if it stops after 9secs CC or no CC kiting 9secs is easy.

Point is there is no shout in game with 60+s CD, and they are regular skills, RaO is elite, so it’s expected to be stronger and less CD. 60-75s CD is kind of acceptable, what ever is longer, is not acceptable no longer, since this skill is in category of SHOUT. Definition of shout is to be short and frequent & instantly casted, 10s is more then enough every 60s.

Ranger should not have own source of stability to cover entire fight. Therefore 10sec every 60 sec is more then enough stability to sustain own fights.

Reducing time and reducing duration…

If you would compare my suggestion with Lich, then lich would have
60s CD and 6s duration flat. Which would be totally fine.

You miss understood my idea, i hope this helps.

RaO though is the opposite. You can waste a lot of it because of its long duration and cast time. Much better to be able to engage, letting your pet get into range, then instantly cast it and stack some might up (and actually get some from the pet) for a burst. If you miss time it, well its only another minute to do it again, not two mins.

I find that because the CD is so long, I end up not using it even when I should because I’m saving it for some reason, so I end up taking Entangle everytime anyway.

We also need the stability on a shorter CD. So halving the durations and CD make “RaO” a much much better skill imo.

Kind of this, I play Ranger for so long that I already know how combat will go in advance. So lately I start running RaO over entangled just to see how things work. And to be honest, even if you make perfect outplay and read the enemy cards what can they do to you, you will suffer if you don’t 100> 0 the target at that point, because 100s(120-20s duration) of no benefit of elite will slowly crush you.

And just saying, Signet of the Wild is so much better skill to have in synargy of entangled, it deliver enough so there is no need of taking RaO, it provides me enough stability to duel 1v1 or 2v1. Entangled is simply way better in current state, and there is absolutely no reason to pick RaO for me at the moment unless you play regeneration ranger(aragorn) as i call it.

I think a LOT (read: most) of the elites in the game have far too long CDs, I would like to see a vast reduction in the long lasting skills and make them much shorter CDs so you can use them much more often.

For example Lich is totally fine as it is, because the AOE damage is just insane, yet RaO is almost same CD as Lich, for a lot less power spike. So yeah, some skills could get some CD reduction to improve quality of pvp.

RaO becoming a shouts [MUST]

From a wvw perspective, 20s on 120cd is perfectly fine for me. That’s long enough to go survive the first zerg crash, push through a choke, and is a lot of might and fury when backlining with a ranged pet. 10s would make it a bit of a stretch.

But then, i kinda liked the Ranger’s access to long duration skills and they all get progressively spammier (Muddy Terrain, Healing Spring, Entangle…).

I play only WvW & sPvP, funny part is once you are outnumbered, and if your RaO & SoS is on CD, you are easy target, you have nothing left but maybe reflex to ensure yourself steady fight.

You are relying only on weapon skills to ensure your safety for 60-80 seconds of citing, which is way to high time base for fluent combat, and lets not forget that you need to wait extra full 60s(120s) to get RaO back. Just zerging with “BLOB” (30+) people is a bad way of saying RaO is fine in WvW.

Every good enemy that has some basic knowledge of the game, if you see a ranger with RaO and SoS on CD, you got easy work to get him down. What i’m trying to achieve with my post is to open more viability for longer fights with RaO. 120 is way to long for single target purpose(i’m not saying skill is not good, just time base od 120-20 = 100 seconds without any use is making fights boring), i rather spend (60s-10duration) = 50s without any use and enjoy fights, without just abusing the 1-2-3 skills of weapon.

I think current RaO is way to punishing even if you use it on good moment, and theory of shout has no meaning if they leave it on 120s CD. Also, every shout in game currently is equal or under 60s cooldown, except for 1 that was never used by me or any of rangers that i’ve encountered, “Search and Rescue” which is totally useless skill for CD it has.

Thought there were already mentions of it becoming a shout, with Heal as One, or was that just speculation? This would already unlock the shout cd reduction, so 20s duration for 96s cooldown. That’s not bat at all for an elite skill.

Those were not speculations, ArenaNet already stated they WILL move RaO into shout type of skill.

I think every ranger that tried every possible build that currently works in or out of meta will agree, that RaO has way to big cooldown for ranger utility that we currently have in game. And should be linearly reduced as I’ve mentioned in original post above, the main purpose is to keep the RaO more play style wise fluent with the build, I could also see a little change and compensation for ZERO cast time.
I hope arena net sees this and considers this option:

viable options:
60s CD > 10s duration
75s CD > 12s duration <—- reducing 0.5s duration for exchange of zero cast time

Suggestion for better combat and fluent fights:

With my 1,800hours on ranger I can tell that RaO was never my favourite choice to pick. I almost always took Entangled over RaO just because of the big cooldown that RaO has, which makes fights boring once elite is on cooldown, just like Lich, you have that power spike, and then you have one big skill on way to big cooldown, which is totally fine compared to cooldown and bust you get.

Need of change with new shout idea of Anet:
half the cooldown and duration in order to make it a decent shout elite, 120 seconds makes combats boring and shouts need to have their core meaning, instant and often usable therefore next changes:

- 120cd > 60cd
- 20s duration > 10s duration

Please, when you design next bow, give 5% more effort.
It’s clearly seen that every LB/SB is rushed.. why is every GS so pretty?

Impact on PVP with no stats from traits

The amulets will be rebalanced to compensate for the loss of stats originally gained from trait lines.

This is probably as good of a place as any to mention that we’ll also be using this opportunity to rebalance PvP’s celestial amulet to be slightly less effective. We’re probably looking at a 10%~ decrease in overall stats, but this number can change as we draw closer to releasing the core specialization changes.

I suggest the old RPG style of stat allocation.

Give some depth back. I could use an extra +300 toughness instead of +300 power. I don’t want my zerker be too glassy.

By rebalancing amulets only, there is very little depth. We might see no more power builds because it will be whoever shoots first wins.

I’m going to have to say I agree with this. SPvP is going to feel incredibly boring and honestly might risk being really stale with such a lack of customization in stat allocation. Cramming all of the stats into ONE item severely limits variety … unless of course you’re okay with people playing one spec / playstyle only.

Look at WvW and how many different builds are effective there, and it’s not because of the game’s archetype, it’s because of the entire list of things one can do to customize their build … where as in SPvP I’ve heard endless complaints about their build not working here because they simply cannot even come close to re-creating it due to the sad limitations of being pushed into just an amulet

And that was prior to having all of our trait stats that will in the future be crammed into ONE amulet / source of stats … Ugh … this is going to be anything but good for spvp and “build diversity” as you at Arenanet CLAIM to support and be all about and having anything other than a stale meta.

But it’s just SPvP, it’s not your money maker, it was just part of the hype and “esports” you threw around to make sales and once you got ‘em you really haven’t shown that much interest or care for SPvP so I suppose the competitive community can go suck a fat one, eh?

Figures – Now we get an even more boring SPvP system. Even with the new traits, this is what will drive me to finally quit playing this ridiculous game.

Would you please remove amulets and give us old armors way of building please??
I’m just tired of “All-in-one” and lets go… I want my stuff to be custom as it was before, you help no one to throw all in one amulet and..

My suggestion, do the solution like you did for gem currency! PLEASE
Leave amulets and bring back old way of setting up runes and armor pieces.

Make it rookie friendly and still able to customize for some serious pvp with old way how armors did work…

Give some love to sPvP people, we buy outfits, minis, bank slots and all the things with real money as well! What does make you guys think that we don’t bring money ?!?! We even bring more money then PVE people because we have no real way to gain fast money in WvW/sPvP so we buy gems with cash.. Please give us some love! Thx

GW2 on consoles

I hate to say it but it’s simple numbers economics, you may make less money per “customer” on a console but there are a hell of a lot more “customers” on consoles then there are on PC’s.. that’s a fact.

That’s not a fact, that’s false.
Ps4 ~ 22 millions of potential users.
Xbox One ~15 millions of potential users.

Numbers are my estimated amount of consoles sold by now, based on latest stats reported and ported to nowadays.

LoL last stats showed 27 millions of player per day, and that was a year ago. Steam last 48h shows peaks of nearly 8.3 millions of players at the same time.
And here we don’t count very popular games like WoW, Gw2, World of tanks, Diablo III, FFXIV, BF4, Smite, Minecraft…

I don’t count Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 for obvious hardware limitations, that made impossible to port such a complex game like gw2 in those consoles.

Exactly. I don’t want to forbid to import it to any console, i’m totally open… just .. later… i don’t care how you play this game, and please don’t request any easy targeting or what so ever feature so make it easily playable on consoles…

Consoles are holding back PC gaming, there is no way you can react just like me on PC..
Just imagine playing thief on Console.. i would laugh at those thiefs so hard :P

I was also thinking about spirits, but more about the quality of life stuff. Like I hate having to resummon them so often, they should be permanent via a trait or something if a druid wants to.

No ty, i don’t want specialization to work with something that already work kind of OK without it.

I don’t miss spirit ranger meta, it’s boring and i dont like having kindergarten… thats necro thing.. even 1 pet is to much for a true ranger… if anet wanted a ranger as it is real.. rangers never fought by side with their pets… they did just bring or track the enemy but never fight them… so yeah… no ty.. removing spirits from game would be my biggest wish, and replacing them with something more interesting.

We have more then 3 weeks a passive aggressive pet bug ..
Suddenly it’s fixed in and only in Stronghold and still bugged every where else…

Not enought going on.. this map needs 6v6 or 8v8 to bee actually interesting.. i think we were just spamming for sups… it felt like pve..

My first impression… it’s different, but boring because there is no skill in fighting just in mobility of running sups..

I thought we could play 8v8 this map and we would ignore sups, and do gvg here.. but.. now that i’m involved into “improvising” GvG at OS / WvW… i know we at least need 15v15 .. because less is just pointless.. and no art at all..

But then there is this stronghold map.. so clustered.. so many obstruction that it makes me sad xD

Final thought:
- good mini game
- does definitely not fit the current sPvP rotation ( needs own queue)
- map is to clustered and thus less interesting..
- it’s more of a PVE style then PVP cut all this running and ignoring players is meh meh…
- future maps need more of a traditional GW1 open space for love of some GvG
- when Colin announced that we will get something like GvG… this is NOTHING like gvg… far from it.. lol
- overall.. disappointed..
