I am really curious how players that are better than me have their monitors arranges, like at what distance from their face. I really struggle to keep track of my teammates and boons/condis on myself and enemies. It’s so insanely small, there are so many tiny icons and I just don’t the kind of eye sight needed to find it in a fraction of a second.
I mean I do all right, statistically I play better than most, but I’m absolutely fighting the UI.
I do miss condi ranger sometimes. I just can’t stand being that slow in WvW.
Couple opinions:
- There is really no reason to ever not take frost or sun spirit for even casual group PvE.
- Smokescale is not a good PvE pet unless you’re using it for group stealth. Bristeback (highest DPS) and jungle stalker for might or tiger for fury are good choices.
- Protect Me might be pretty hefty overkill for any sort of PvE; PvE is all about maximizing damage. I’d take 3 damage enhancing utilities, with at least 1 being a spirit.
I suspect the ranger actually got lucky it didn’t get wasted on an auto attack or flat out miss by you moving slightly. I assume he was trying to use the several skill combo on a brutal charge from a pet swap but the wolf skill was probably still on recharge. If he hadn’t gotten lucky/been paying extremely close attention, most of his build would have been wasted on a powerful auto attack or just have missed due to natural player movement.
Expanding on the ‘stop attacking’ thing, the truly best ways are to bind a key to stowing your weapon or deselecting all targets. Most people deselect by clicking the ground or hitting escape. Another option is to turn off autoattack for complete control of your character.
All those methods are critically important for PvP/WvW and not that important for PvE, but it’s good to know how to do it.
You can’t repeat the story on the same character unless you help someone else and then you do not get a reward anyway.
You can choose a pack that is not of your order (have done so on 2 characters now).
Just a matter of doing it 3 times with 3 different characters.
You can repeat it on the same character by replaying it in the story journal, that’s how you do the achievements. But you won’t get any rewards.
in truth taking the words from class description since 3.5 years ago and trying apply them to today’s reality is not quite going to work
And it’s important to realize the context. That description was a way to describe the adrenaline mechanic to people who had never heard of GW.
Click on the paw print above your weapon skills. I think the default key might be K, or maybe I changed that. You can set your 2 land pets and 2 water pets.
You don’t get any rewards at all the second time through the missions, and you choose your own pack. (IIRC.)
Do you have another character? The main thing you want is the skin, not the actual armor. Unlock the skin and then transmute your good end-game armor.
A fair comparison is to transfusion.
- Both teleport downed allies.
- Transfusion is 40 second long and SnR is 45 second long.
- Tranfusion require a blood magic trait while SnR require a utility slot.
How dare you be fair, that’s not allowed on the pvp forums.
I always save my random rings and trinkets. They have uses for hitting stats you want in WvW.
1) Stacking swiftness on each other is standard operating procedure at the beginning of a match.
2) Rangers have a lot of ways to apply swiftness. Yay, so exciting.
3) Warriors have always been in competition for fastest profession in the game. And they do have access to swiftness.
Doesn’t power do a lot more than condi on VG though, due to the low toughness?
i suggest keep celestial avatar the same but make druids able to activate it only if there are at least 2 other teammates nearby
And see rangers completely removed from play again.
If you don’t make it back in time, the dishonor for a single DC is extremely small and has mostly worn off by the time the match is over too. If you keep DCing and rack up dishonor, stop playing PvP until your internet is behaving, because you’re ruining the experience of dozens of other players.

You absolutely do not need ascended to do fractals, and in fact the vast majority of people doing low levels will be using exotics.
At high levels of fractals you need ascended because of a weird and confusing mechanic called “agony”, but you don’t need to bother learning about that unless you want to do level 20+, and even then it’s not really required until much higher levels.

Why are you insulting people for an unintended UI decision? Anet fixed the mistake, just move along.
Non meta works wonders in solo Q because of lack of communication though. For example a zerker static discharge engi can take ~5 players by surprise and that’s a win right there. And if the enemy isn’t experienced enough to change their play against a non-standard build you might even catch them again and again. I’m sure everyone can think of plenty of times you lured someone in with a false sense of security and hen gibbed them.
Thanks for the clarification, I thought it might be something like that.
I think smokescale is overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an A+ level pet. But bristleback and a core pet such as wolf, drake, or bird are all respectable choices.
Edit: smokescale is a general pet that works with any build. Obviously you built around the drake and that’s why it’s better in this case.

I would argue anyone that doesn’t use defender runes in WvW is just plain wrong. :P
Without having any supporting data, I would guess the overwhelming majority of forum-users regularly play non standard builds. I certainly do.
When you complete events on the map, you get the rewards in sequential order. It’s not a 100% chance, but it’s pretty high.
It’s easy to accidentally compact your inventory and move your stuff all over the place when you meant to deposit all collectibles.
I don’t understand why you needed a thread if you don’t care where the button is though. Just ignore the option and let other people use it.
I always found the charr and norn to be very thematically compatible, and they have a lot of interaction even as far back as GW1, so if you’re worried about role playing you could move to norn areas. Some of the norn/charr interactions in the personal story are absolutely golden.
You guys should share experiment results on the forums too.
It’s interesting that even now druid basically doesn’t have a “meta” build. Just a bunch of “well, that will work” builds. Compare that to something like herald where the build is totally obvious to someone who doesn’t even play GW2. I guess that puts us in sort of a good spot since we have a lot of options.
What? Missing a queue pop up is wasting about 30 seconds by the time someone else drops in giving how fast the queues have been moving since patch day.
That would mean the 2nd match started less than 4 seconds after the queue popped and you flaked. No, you wasted an enormous amount of time each time you don’t hit the button.
I imagine we’re assuming the druid in question is a pro?
Since there are only ~ 7 technically pro druids in the entire world, no, nothing will beat them 1v1.
#pedanctic #blessed
Ranger profession mechanic is viable for the first time in going on 4 years = community hissy fit.
There is NO WAY a good Druid would die in a 1v1 in WvW.
On the other hand, it can be a PitA to kill others as well. I roam in mostly berserker gear on my druid because otherwise I just wind up chasing people back to the safety of their towers.
Druid is pretty much the antithesis of doing damage. No other profession or elite spec represents pacifism better than a druid.
44 minutes of dishonor means you’ve wasted like 12 hours of other people’s time. Every time you screw over a match, multiple that by 9.
Missing a simple queue pop is ~ 45 minutes of wasted time for other people.
DCing from a match is ~ 2 hours of wasted time for other people.
Extremely rough estimates.
Look for the PvP build button in the very top center of your screen when you are in the heart of the mists. Everything is done from there, not the usual hero panel.
You can do this with any profession.
Using your skills on recharge is how you achieve like 80% efficiency in GW2, and the rest is actually learning how to play. I challenge anyone to actually look at their own gameplay and see if they aren’t mostly spamming skills on recharge.
Elites across all the professions are usually worse than your average utility. I think this came from a mashup of GW2 builds, and GW1 ideas of the elite being the absolute defining factor of your build. To balance the elites in GW2 they had to put them on long CDs, and that made them inferior to a lot of utility skills you could use more often. Most of the elites choosen for GW2 PvP are on short CDs. Lich form doesn’t see a lot of use because you can basically remove the skill from a match with a single engi moa, or even just running slightly out of range.
As far as elites that are terrible across the board go, ranger elites are friggen amazing since they can actually be used.
For instance if u chose to be a pew pew ranger, in druid u could get 13 condi removed by just switching to CA form, instead of just 2 condis on survival skill which means u must invest into GM wilderness and take up utilith slots.
Because it takes something like 3 minutes to recharge CA via damage. Obviously in this case you aren’t going to exhaust all your AF, but still you can see how WS is more reliable, you know exactly when your condi clear is ready.
Also I played for years with nothing but SoR as condi clear on a LB roamer. You really don’t need a ton of condi removal for that playstyle. I’ve seen some ranger take only generosity for condi clear. FlopyPotato or whatever his handle is that posts here had a video of him beating Koroshi (a very experienced engi) on condi engi using only generosity and SoR in several extended duels. It’s an old video at this point, but condi engi is no joke in duels.
They are utility not a build. Anyone turning them into a build knows that turning your utilities into an offensive extention of the weapon skill bar comes with a defensive penalty.
Ya this. The same applies to DH trappers, which are fairly useless. Both spend nearly all their build hoping someone will stand in their traps. It’s just a flawed concept in PvP.
I still disagree. The best way to make condi armor uses a black diamond, so it’s not like it’s a rare phenomena. Nightmare runes aren’t bad runes, they’re some of the best, but they are made better by the gem.
I also don’t think the OP is a new player. But anyway, I think both our points got across.
You really did come off as kind of a kitten-kitten. Just saying.
I read an interesting article that explained people read text in whatever mood they’re currently in. So while I was trying to hammer home that you can be the worst player in the world and still do fine, if you’re looking for aggressive text, you’ll find it.
My wife plays GW2 with 1 hand, which I didn’t even realize was possible until I saw her do it. I submit that she is literally the worst player in the world. It takes her 5 or 10 seconds just to point her character in the right direction. And she does fine. That should sum up this thread.
For the record, the PvE I was referring to was not raids or fractals. Druid offers almost nothing for open world. Core ranger is better there for sure, unless you want the conveniences of druid, like natural stride or just an extra heal.
If you are finished being intentionally obnoxious, pedantic and contrarian I would like you to leave the thread now since you clearly don’t want to help.
I hope you can get past your aggression and just read my answers without being so weirdly hostile. I answered everything you asked twice, despite the way you treated everyone who tried to help you. That’s not really the way these forums works, it’s a pretty civil place. Take a breath and calm down a bit!
Let me put it this way: A certain content creator often plays “challenges” where he doesn’t dodge or heal at all. That’s how easy the open world content is. I told you mesmer and necro don’t move as fast at first and everything else has a way of moving around quickly.
Basically: JUST PLAY THE GAME, you’re massively over thinking this.
Edit: Actually I think I see why you flew off the handle. You probably read my second post as being sarcastic, but I was being genuine. You really can just stand in front of any non-boss enemy and go make a cup of coffee. I’m not exaggerating! I honestly think you could win with autoattack if you were completely naked with no armor, but I haven’t tried. Would be an interesting experiment.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
You’re still not quite getting it. I would be impressed if you managed to get yourself killed while doing open world exploration. You can literally target any non-major-boss enemy in the open world, turn on autoattack, go make a cup of coffee, and when you come back you will have won the fight. That’s not an exaggeration.
Sorry you feel disrespected by the answer, but everything fits your description. Just go take your screenshots with any random pile of garbage character you want. Don’t even bother making decisions about your build and weapons and you’ll still win.
Not always better, just different. Without healing, it can take quite a while to build up the astral force, so you may be better off with the standard LR/survival skills. Sometimes you just want other traits too. The druid traits are nice, but so are things like quick draw, beastly warden, zephyr’s speed, protective ward, MoC, and so on. Especially if you don’t want to use staff which is a major selling point of druid.
Edit: Prophet basically explained what I meant as well.

The carapace stuff looks good on humanoid rangers IMO. I’ve never tried to go for the stereotypical “nature” theme since I think of her as a “scout soldier” type. This is her PvP/WvW look, and her PvE look is the regular ascended skin, which makes her look like a legionnaire.
I’m sure both are not looks many like, but it’s hard to go wrong with human armor since anet seems to design everything as human first.
Edit: Also Krytan and Viper gemstore stuff is not trenchcoat.

Open world exploration is utterly trivial and mindless fun, so just pick the one you enjoy playing most.
Necro and mesmer are the only two professions that are sort of slow moving at first. Everyone else has some way of zipping around effortlessly.
Is there a worse trait anywhere in GW2 than Predator’s Instinct? This could be a fun mini-game in LA where you win a bag of masterwork gear for naming a worse trait.
Ten hours?! If you’d found a forum member online we could have run with you to show the way in half an hour.
Depends on what you’re doing. Druid is an improvement over ranger in PvP because it makes us way more durable and gives us a lot more utility.
For PvE and certain WvW builds, ranger can often be better. Druid doesn’t offer much in the way of damage.
I think ranger and necro are the only professions that can clear every single condition in the game at the same time two different ways, though? That’s pretty powerful.
Engi and guard might be able too, I’m not super familiar with all the other professions’ utilities.
Edit: Actually with transfers, I think necros can do it at least 3 ways.
