I doubt it took 60 players to take you down. I’m sorry but I hate when people phrases things like that. 60 players happened to see you and killed you, end of story. I doubt you have been doing fine against 20 of them until the other 40 came…
It happens, it’s annoying, but it didn’t “take” 60 of them to kill you.
lol
These are always quality posts.
Running rangers in a five man group won’t change perceptions. Rangers are already viewed as excellent roamers, it’s when they try to participate in large scale fights (what WvW is primarily about) that the class really begins to struggle.
Zerg vs Zerg any class is fine. Hell, that’s where even under leveled participate.
GvG? Likely not. Partly because of the class and partly because of short sighted people.
Not sure if this is serious or a parody.
How do you against humans with traps? Seems like that might be a decent way to deal with thieves as well.
I don’t deal well with with Thieves with any build…so I am a poor person to ask
Using traps? I could picture that being viable if not better than power. I send in the pet to cluster them all, barrage it, entangle them, flame trap and blast it, then cleave the leftovers with the sword.
Note, obviously I don’t normally use flame trap as a berserker, it’s just a way to stack as much DPS as possible for the camp.
Sorry, yea with traps.
If your focus was WvW roaming, power build was never the best option, condition was, and nothing will change after the update.
Same thing for taking important camps and etc. It’s all bout the speed and condi rangers are the slowest build in the entire game other than builds that don’t intend to do any damage at all like some guardian bunkers.
When I am solo, a good condi build with Drakes+ Entangle clears camps waaaay faster than a power build.
After the 15th patch, your crit dmg will drop to around 78-80%. I’ve started working on my condi gear already :<
I don’t understand why people are so attached to that "nerf".
If your focus was WvW roaming, power build was never the best option, condition was, and nothing will change after the update.
If your focus was PvE, power is and will still be the best option after the update, your cond build in PvE will only make you frustrated.@OP: really interesting build, with April 15th update I buy and switch some ascended trinkets among my toons and give a try with a similar build.
Neither do I
Maybe it’s because the nerf only effects rangers.
Agony resistance is for PvE?
If that is true, I don’t need it. So I don’t need to use the forge then if it is only for WvW?
So buying the infusion and clicking on the jewelry piece is the same as using the forge? ..ie end results in stats are the same?
Edit: a little difficult to understand. Most of the explanations are dolphin clicks to me…a different language
Now that Allie Murdock, the only person who had an in depth understanding of what was said in the Ranger CDI is leaving. Sure, she may have passed on ideas to the devs but they didn’t get half as involved as she did. Ah well, I have no problems sticking with my condi bunker for at least the next year.
Sarcasm?
As nice as she seems, her knowledge of Rangers was next to nil. She was a PR gatekeeper for that thread. That’s it.
If I read this correctly you expect a 5 man Ranger group to be able to handle 25 people in a fight?
Other than that I think it is a great idea. 5 coordinated Rangers would indeed be a force….and a lot of fun. LB/GS would be the base. You could maybe make one of the 5 a support Ranger but meh, the whole point would be focus fire on same target and blow it up. 5 CC pets + good assisting would be a nightmare for people because of the damage +range.
Would absolutely love to do this but have never found others interested on SoS
5v25? NP….
me and a VS thief obliterated 15 people in an instant running a combination of traps and venoms. when running against superior numbers there is only 4 things that matters; location, location, location, location.
TL;DR ver.
5v25 – Find a chokepoint and bring forth your A-game, you’re in for a rough ride.
Venom share I assume? That is another thing on my list. Go condi Ranger and partner with a Venom Share Thief.
edit: read too fast. VS = Venom Share
Double edit: Either way, I would like to try the 5 Ranger coordinated group in WvW

Okay -
Couple points I think didn’t get hit hard enough in the CDI.
Skrimishing traitline is BAD……Full of traps and pet traits. There is NOTHING in this traitline worth taking unless you are traps but the stat combo is GREAT for power builds. There needs to be more POWER based traits in skrimish. (Ex/ Why would anybody want to take something like carniverous appetite when I can just swap the pet if it gets low)
2. This class is REALLY hit hard by traits that affect only 1 weapon. By default, traits that affect only one weapon really need to be looked at and should be stronger than those affecting multiple
(Looking at you RtW and Axe Mastery)There is more – but I think those are my two strongest so lets start there.
I agree. It was reinforced last night for me when I was at my trainer attempting to try out a new power spec. I couldn’t pull the trigger on anything in Skirmishing. Likely the worst traitline I have encountered based on my 3 other characters.
there is such a build called BM Bunker. Where you let your pet become a demon on 2-4-6-8 legs and you can just sit back while the pet demolishes anyone who doesn’t take it seriously.
I wouldn’t mind testing pet vs pet…without the Natural Healing or shout regen….just pure damage with 30 points in BM vs a pet with zero in BM. Only a couple days left and we won’t see TC for another week. Send me a shout if you are bored one night to set up a pet fight (SoS)
Sure np. Trust me though, it is NOT a competition. BM pet is a world of difference. Me and a guildie tested it in our guild PvP arena. Pet does not care about player stats and damage is the same across modes, so i can just let you join the arena (since i am the owner) and test it there any day of the week.
I know you and a couple of others are big advocates of BM….and I believe you guys ..It’s just that I have tried a few times vs mobs …BM vs non BM and didn’t notice a big difference. Very unscientific so likely I should have tested it more extensively.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion
Should have all the information you need
Thank you. I have seen the infusions on the Laurel Merchant….but reading the wiki, I still don’t know if i can apply them to the ring myself if I have zero in all crafting …and I apologize if it does actually say if I can or not…I obviously missed it
I have always thought that if you are in the middle of a zerg with a Ranger, you are doing it wrong
this is Build Wars 2, not “This is what i think i cannot do wars 2”
Really have no idea what you are trying to say there. ^^
i bolded the relevant part for you
You could go out into WvW without armor…….or run into the middle of a zerg dropping traps and swinging a GS. It doesn’t mean either is playing to a Rangers strength. Play as you please though. lol no one is stopping you.
Edit: To top it off, running into a zerg pretty much negates the pet. Other than stepping over a few traps for you they are irrelevant….more than usual.
(edited by Forzani.2584)
Yes please, don’t touch my Longbow. kitten it feels good to have that 1,500 range in WvW and PvP. I don’t think any other profession has access to this much range.
Closer to 1800 range and yea, I don’t want anything drastic done to LB …especially some of the suggested ideas for Rapid Fire. whatever is adjusted, please don’t touch the tracking channel. It’s one of the few things Thieves fear about Rangers.
I have always thought that if you are in the middle of a zerg with a Ranger, you are doing it wrong….imho. I think Rangers have some deficiencies playing that style. Don’t try to fit a square peg into a round hole.
I think you bring more to the table playing as a predator hanging around the edges of a zerg picking people off …..especially thieves.
depends on your builds. A melee build is not going to work for “picking people off”. A signet build with longbow however will.
this is Build Wars 2, not “This is what i think i cannot do wars 2”
Well yea, obviously that type of build begins with LB and likely GS. A melee build is not likely to perform well on the front line of a zerg either.

Got my first ascended ring drop in WvW yesterday. this is likely a dumb question, but since I don’t pve I don’t know the answer.
How would I infuse that ring? Do I have to be a crafter to get it done? …or can I buy it off the market and put it on like normal stuff?
Thanks

If you playing WvW for the achievements then you are playing the wrong game.
No doubt.
“I quit” topics are against the Code of Conduct and as such, you should lock this thread.

Thanks, but not really what I wanted. The two characters I play the most are Guardian and a Sword Mesmer, I know how to dodge. Also, I’m not really looking for speed leveling. Just want to make good use of what I have.
Sorry, can’t help you then. No idea what you are looking for.
I think a Norn Ranger is not a common partnership. I don’t think I recall seeing one.
Are you serious? Norn Rangers are one of the most common race to class combos next to Asura Engineers and Charr Warriors.
I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t believe what I said. I will keep an eye open tonight for them. I see a ton of Human Rangers.
I can supply 2 answers.
If you want fast and easy put your points into better Longbow and Pets. Sick pet to get aggro then kill with bow. You can level to 80 without even wearing armor that way.
If you want to be a better player level without bow. Get in close and personal and learn how to and when to dodge.
What WvW should change:
- Honestly I think the WvW should be rewarded according to the time that the strengths or spots are maintained and not every time you take, it’s like going in circles all the time .. really stupid, it has nothing of pvp.
Clearly you understand WvW better than does ANet. It should be patently obvious that if you create a competition based around your team holding objectives to win … and then you offer better individual rewards for a totally different behavior (i.e., flipping objectives back and forth) … that you are going to undermine your own game. How ANet cannot grasp that, especially in the face of a classic prior example in the form of the Conquest 3-faction PvP mode in Rift, is totally beyond my comprehension.
It’s not like we haven’t told them before. It’s hard to believe they asked for our feedback again in the last livestream while what needs to be done couldn’t have been said more often and be more obvious.
Some great points. I also am surprised Anet hasn’t bought into this.
One of the big problems is the current version of WvW breaks people down. They like WvW but end up leaving it or the game because their play style isn’t rewarded or appreciated. There are people …as crazy as it seems, that enjoy defending. They enjoy building up a structure while they are in the area and scouting for their realm. They run supply, build siege, upgrade etc. All the while they are happily chatting with guild mates and friends.
Not only do they miss out on experience and loot, it costs them cash. Add to that they are basically ostracized for doing what they are doing. They call out an attack on their prized structure….the response? ..“don’t worry, we will take it back later”. Why? Because their are greater rewards letting someone take that tower/keep.
bassackwards imo
Unfortunately, what WvW is, is PvD, PvW and sometimes PvS. EotM is essence of this, the map looks gorgeous, but it’s a braindead run-in-circles marathon.
I do find it funny though that they designed a whole map to help with WvW queue’s when that’s only really an issue on like 4 servers. IMO that should be the price you pay for xfering over to a horribly bloated server, but instead they get catered too.
100% agree with this statement. I found it very strange that Anet decided to take away one of the biggest advantages the smaller servers had over the mega servers.
I think a Norn Ranger is not a common partnership. I don’t think I recall seeing one.
There is a huge population difference between T1 and T2. That’s why T1 and T2 shouldn’t be playing each other. Look what JQ is doing to Mag and DB.
Yea JQ is doing the nasty on those two servers.
Obviously population has the biggest impact. Still, there are other things that also have an impact. You only get better by facing adversity and tougher opponents. The little things become more important vs an equal or stronger opponent. Just like any game or sport…if you aren’t tested, you get lazy and rusty. SoS hasn’t been tested in a long while.
The tier 1 servers have the population. Combine that with the mentality to squeeze and grind out every PPT as possible and you have an extreme mismatch. Even if the populations were the same the tier 1 servers would win. They take it much more seriously.
Please don’t force PvE crap down our throats!

In general, WvW players do NOT want PvE
They go to WvW to compete on a large map scale with OTHER PLAYERS.
No, it isn’t as personal and competitive as traditional PvP, but it is still players verses players.
People go to WvW because they want players verses players—but prefer WvW’s version of it. They specifically do not want PvE
No more PvE.
Thanks
Most fun I ever had in an MMO was the Thidranki instance in DAoC and that was just a large open battleground with one castle that you could capture in the middle. There were no points, no match resets and funny enough no zergs. I think the PvD aspect of WvW is what is creating the Zerg problem.
That is a very good point. It was just people running around solo or in 2-3 man groups looking for fights. Great fun.
Love how SoS PvDs and blobs harder then the other t2 servers, but you dont say the same about t1
IE. t1 blobs harder then SoS can and PvDs all the time
Frankly.. its all a numbers game. SoS has even numbers during NA for the most part but Euro (i think thats right, just before NA time) has always been weak so we lose everything to golem and 60 man blobs that the t1 can keep nearly 24/7
Its a numbers game nothing more. kitten doesnt matter.
Sure it’s a numbers game. On reset though, every BL was queued up …for all 3 servers. SoS still got kittenkicked.
I am guessing…and I stand to be corrected, is the DS allows he to be more aggressive bombing into a group because he knows he has a good chance of escaping because most of the CC will be absorbed.
DS does nothing after taking around 1800 damage. You don’t try to escape when 90%+ health. Does not compute.
Like I said, it would make a lot more sense to run the cleansing flame fire trait and +10% fire damage, both of which always work and both enhance burst. Not to mention 200 power is way more useful that 300 condition damage in a GC spec.
I’m not sure what you mean by that. After bombing into someone, especially more than one person, that is exactly what he did. Jump in, do damage, jump out, rinse repeat.
All I saw is a mostly GC executing the same combo over and over on other GC noons and uplevels.
Which is fine, but then my real point is that DS really is not doing much for this spec as it’s all about bursting. Outside of rock solid, which is of definite benefit, you’d be better off with points elsewhere IMO.
I am guessing…and I stand to be corrected, is the DS allows he to be more aggressive bombing into a group because he knows he has a good chance of escaping because most of the CC will be absorbed.
I suck at my Ele, and I was thinking the same thing about DS when I had it. When I removed it I sure noticed getting caught up in the CC more often. To bad there isn’t a way to scroll back to the combat log and be able to see when DS fired.
Is this really a problem for [Agg]? I mean, you guys haven’t been on the same server for more than 2 straight weeks since the game came out; with all those Transfers, sooner or later you should get the opportunity to kill pretty much anyone who’s ever stepped in WvW if you really want to.
lol nice !
Just organize a group of 20 uplevel rangers and follow Agg and act like rallybots.
Winning
let’s be real here, no good player is ever going to lose to a staff ele in 1v1, i know i never have.
Know the feeling. This morning, I just defeated 2 staff eles all by myself…on my staff ele. Staff eles are so easy to take down that even staff eles can 2v1 ’em.
Yogi Berra would be proud !
Common misconception that if you can play one class at the highest level, you can play all classes at the highest level.
That’s like saying if you can swarm like Rocky Marciano, you can also counter strike like Muhammed Ali. You have to work with what you’re good at.
For a lot of people, mesmers are easy mode in 1v1. I struggle to kill ambient wildlife with mine, yet I get how pets and ranger evasiveness works.
That made me laugh
Self absorbed
Self important

Just some things that came to mind when reading the first post.
4. Real content for WvW. such as new core maps, or changes to the current ones.
I really appreciate the effort that went in to EotM, but it also highlight for me just how amazing the original maps are. They’re just beautiful and elegant. The simplicity allows the focus to be on the WvW and not bouncing noobs off a bridge
Agree. Less trolling and more fighting, strategy and rewards.
The decision from anet to give certain servers free transfers prior to the start of wvw season 2 has completely ruined the season for those servers that did not recieve the free transfers. What exactly is the point of trying to build a strong server community and recruit players/guilds to your server if it is rendered useless by servers having free transfers. Why would anyone pay 80+ gold to transfer to your server if they could go to another one for free?
I assume arenanet thought they would strengthen some of the lower ranked wvw servers through this decision but in actual fact they decided the result of wvw seasons the moment they made it.
Take Gandara for example, they were in Bronze league, and then after the mass exodus to that server through free transfers they are now top of silver and soon to be in gold. Fighting them outside of prime time hours is near impossible when you constantly have outmanned buff.Free transfers before seasons. A VERY bad and unfair move from anet
Good move imo. Apparently you will need to recruit harder and offer more incentives next time.
Server stacking is a horrible and bad for the games health.

I agree with you. To be honest it makes total sense. I think after a loss many people try and think of ways to last longer in the next fight…so they build more defensive.
To add to that it is my nature to be defensive. Although I do remember one night that supports your play style. I was out for a few wobbly pops. Came home, was bored so loaded up my Ranger. Got into a fight with a Thief….didn’t care if I won or lost so went hard after him. Pretty much 2 shotted him with my GS. So I buy your theory.
Still, for it to work you need to play well with your dodges. Myself and many others are average at best with timing dodges. Also, one of the main issues I have with Thieves is their blinds. Dunno how you get around that one consistently
It’s not rocket science, how does anyone expect to defend themselves against the potential for very high damage by wearing kitten see through panties for armor? It goes both ways.
Exactly. That’s why I was saying ranger vs thief favors the ranger, since we have slightly more evasive techniques (whatever those may be, not just evades) than thieves do. We may not kill them, but at least they go away.
It’s just important to remind people. So many people think backstab thieves have 4k armor and 30k health.
(And on that note, good lord are tank thieves annoying to fight.)
Edit: Also your thief trap is hysterical.
Ranger vs thief favors Ranger? Maybe for you…and grats on being able to play so well.
If you polled 100 Rangers, how many do you think would say that a Thief/Ranger fight favors the Ranger? Ten maybe?
If you polled 100 Thieves, how many would say a Thief/Ranger fight favors the Ranger? Ten maybe? There is a reason that when a Thief sees a ranger among other classes he makes a beeline towards the Ranger.
If such an over whelming majority of both classes believe that a Thief normally beats a Ranger, how could your opinion trump that? Maybe you are the outlier? The exception.
It would be like Warren Buffet telling everyone how he doesn’t understand how everyone isn’t rich like he is. That if he can do it so can everyone else.
Every class has people that excel when playing that class. No single class attracts the most skilled players just as no single class attracts no skill players.
You can’t judge a class on the elite skilled players. You have to judge it on the average encounter.
Then you’ll reroll Thief when Mesmer is nerfed, then Necro like everybody else.
Typical flavour of the month player.
No kidding.
#pathetic
When dealing with this issue ask yourself…. am i complaining about the stealth mechanic?
If the answer is yes, it is strictly a learn to play issue. So get out there and L2P!
( Not a thief )
So when I do beat a Thief, and I am still complaining about the stealth mechanic. Is that still a L2P issue?
It’s excellent that some Rangers here have no problems with thieves. It could be though that you are the top 5% of the Ranger class. I am never really surprised at the things good players are capable of.
I have never had a chance to witness it with my own eyes though. Of course I have seen Rangers beat Thieves….but, when it is an above average Thief? ..no. I have attended many nights of dueling. A well played Thief doesn’t lose to a Ranger….or at least I haven’t witnessed it.
In average everyday WvW though, Rangers in general are prime food for thieves.
The results will look something like this:
1)2.5K steal
2)5.5k c&d
3)8k backstab
[…] a couple auto attacks for 500 each
4)10k Heartseeker
DEAD x_xThe combination of shadow stepping, stealth, high evasion, extremely high spike damage, and no cooldowns due to the initiative system results in a very, very broken class.
Amen! Sometimes, after getting ganked by this utterly non skilled/ op rotation, I’ll take a screen cap of the combat log. I really don’t want to spend the time to look but, I’m certain this rotation is an extremely high percentage of my deaths in WvW. It’s also VERY macro friendly which makes it very bad for the game. This rotation needs a 50% damage reduction. And, I used to say 20% but, as time and power creep continues, I keep upping the nerf.
To the Dev’s, don’t you EVER say you are working towards build diversity when you don’t touch the most spammed rotation in the game.
In some situations it’s pretty obvious some are using macros.
I have been running fairly similar but with S/D. I only have exotic EQ though. I am amazed at how much damage Burning Speed does. It happens so fast in the video I need to replay a couple of times to see it.
Maybe I should dabble with Dagger.
