With the release of the new Season, the amount of people in the OS JP trolling one another has increased. IT has gone from ganking people, to spawn camping. I am making this to remind people about the OS JP etiquette. I believe some level of respect should be shown in the JP. Let’s try and keep some class, and have fun. Fighting is saved for EBG, BL, EtoM, and the GvG arena.

Let’s not respect one another, for honor is not important in a video game.

Out of curiosity what would WvW fights look like if stealthed players moved half speed?

I have been playing a lot of stealth games lately and it seems the theme to them all is that stealth reduces movement. Could a slow moving mechanic attached to stealth make for better fights? Just asking.

GW 2’s invisibility is easily the most ridiculously overpowered stealth system of any PvP-game I’ve ever played.

Both statements 100% accurate.

I went on record over a year ago stating there was no way anet…or any developer, would let something as broken as stealth continue as is …without a fix.

Obviously I was wrong. After watching the twitch feed last week and one of the devs showing the new pvp map ..while he was on his thief. He went on and on how the map was going to be a blast for thiefs with their teleports.

Hey, looks like you got a little offtrack in your last couple sentences. They didn’t seem to flow well with the rest of your comment. You see, in the sentence block above your last you stated that STEALTH was over powered and an issue, you also mentioned that you were upset that it had yet to be nerfed. After that you said, and here’s where you went wrong, “Obviously I was wrong.” This is a continuation technique. By stating this you meant to talk about how you were wrong about stealth, but then you just talked about teleporting. Interesting fact; Stealth and teleports are two totally different things! Wow! Learned something new didn’t you?

Essentially what you wanted to do was talk about how you hate thieves and all of their class mechanics were broken! Simple reworks in your paragraph structure can fix this. If you PM me i would be glad to help you revise so your comment has more flavor, structure, and usefulness!

When I read Karl’s comments in the CDI thread I got super excited. I hope this was a rushed decision, because this trait seems lackluster as well. Without considering where it is, we are looking at 100 damage per second on a 1200 condition damge build, and 140 on a 2000 condition damage build. That is totally lackluster. And with pets having access to soooo many poison application, why would we need them to apply more poison? Poison should get some utility not just become a bit better (50% on craptastic damage is still only a bit). And this coming when a lot of our traits are just making things a bit better (like giving 350 traits to the pet only), which was also acknowledged in the CDI thread as well. A condi build won’t take this over the other 2 defensive traits ever, power build won’t go 30 into Wilderness Survival and support builds (if there are any) won’t take such a selfish underwhelming damage trait. Poison needs utility, some kind of added effect to make it worthwile using.

Should be torment instead.

Wow I can’t believe I never thought of this…

This is actually a big issue for PvP rerollers.

Trait/Skill unlocks being soul bound is definitely a big issue here. I missed this, because I don’t need to reroll and have always thought the added healing skills too weak to use.

Silly question, but, what’s the big deal about piercing arrows? I ask from a WvW point of view. I have never used it because it doesn’t add any help to what I am trying to accomplish.

Its one of the few forms of AOE available to Rangers. Not as good as say grenades, but best we’ve got after traps.

So for camp flipping and Zergs its quite valuable.

Understood. When I take camps I change pets from Spider/Dog to Drakes. Why not remove Eagles eye and switch to pierce arrows for the camp?

I’m sure it helps get more bags in zergs, but bags don’t motivate me all that much.

Im actually thinking on doing some builds involving flaming axe, perhaps a condi build involving 30/0/30/0/10 with stone heart and blinding ashes, scepter/focus, condi flame axe, frost bow or maybe signet of fire instead, sit on earth vs bursters, reason being for the scepter because it earth #1 is a bleed of long duration, and #1 a burn, maybe the trait that gives a 33% chance for burns when you crit, together with carrion, a sigil of intelligence for 3 guaranteed crits. I can definitely see a bleed/burn/blind spamming ele, my only concern would be the sustain and condition cleansing. Eithe rether renewal or signet of restoration, one give me condi removal the other sustain, but cant have both. I will figure it out when the patch comes and I see the new runes.

You been doing some mind reading it appears ! Although a hybrid condi/power spec might be even better.

Read the Wind is going to be quite decent when combined with Eagle Eye. Min/Max’ers are going to complain about not being able to maximize damage and long distance accuracy, but it allows longbow users to obtain a niche role not currently present in the game, especially at the 1500 range distance.

Eh, let’s not go crazy here.
1200 versus 1500 is, in all honesty, a pretty trivial distance. It’s the distance of a single dodge, to put things into perspective. It’s nice and all, but I can’t imagine what role actually exists in that small space. Is there a wall somewhere you can stand on top of where it’s possible to hit something vitally important 1400 units away?

The thing is though is it is about 1800 range when fired manually. It gives a huge head start in any fight when fighting another ranged class. When specced fairly glassy I have had the rare fight where I don’t get hit. Superior range + my knockdown +pet knockdown when he gets there = win

many of us old dark age devotees love eso AvA over the WvW here. Far less laggy and more strategic.

I am one of those old time daoc players. I like the way ESO is looking…except for the targeting and the constant need to spam your weapon for every hit. Dunno if I can deal with that full time.

Ele build for AoE'ing siege in WvW

If you are any kind of glassy Dragons Tooth does insane damage. Both on the siege but especially on anyone on the siege. Reuse timer is good also. Quite a few times I have gotten small groups to back off their ram when I was defending.

Edit: the reason I like it is it is good both defending or attacking. When defending you can’t get pulled off the wall which is very nice.

No, but what I am saying is that this is going to kill the bow ranger, bow rangers precision and crit dmg are our only viable options, sure if you want throw some survivability in there until you learn situational positioning, and how to survive. But for a ranger that’s really your best option. Take that out by reducing the amount of damage we can do and now we are 100% useless in zerg fights. Our pets don’t last through the AOE fields in zerg fights as is, and that’s supposedly 20% of our dmg? Now take 10% off a damage build and we just lost everything that makes us viable, while still being ranged, yes we can switch to other builds, but not bow based and still be viable, across the board or no this change hits us harder then them. I can throw at least 4 different zerg damage builds for each and every other class. We had ONE viable option and its being nerfed. That’s where my anger originates, I don’t want to be anything but RANGED on a kitten RANGER.

- Your lack of understanding how the math works….strike one.
- LB Ranger that has his pets die in zerg AOE? ..strike two
- 4 different zerg damage build for every class? lol ..strike three

OK Oddoad, you make a dramatic, but resonable point.
It is sad to hear that you are going to stop playing ranger because they will no longer be viable. Unfortunately as it is, if you no longer feel useful, you should try to be more productive in a different manner.

heya there great video! the build seems to be a close variation to my Re-port331/ Re-PortV. Its always been a blast to play and really surprises people when you lay it on them.

Im interested to see what you do with the patch . some of the changes i have planed are really going to improve my existing build paths. so Rangers have some exciting times ahead!

WvW is already hurting.(for numerous reasons) Too many times I log on and find a ghost town (t2 server). It wasn’t like this 5 months ago. Even with the flaws I still enjoy the game, but if WvW is dead then I will eventually move on.

I was talking about actually fighting against a Warrior. A year ago I stopped attacking them unless they attacked me in WvW because I felt bad for them. They were so easy to kill. Now? Not so much.

Except that zerging means everything in WvW. No one cares about roaming or 1v1 fights. That’s what spvp is for.

My bad. I didn’t realize that.

Not in general obviously, but in terms of match ups and winning with superior PPT, roaming and 1v1’s mean nothing. It’s no big mystery why they added an area to BL maps just to give roamers something to do.

Well that is an entirely different debate for another thread. My only point is Warriors are vastly stronger today than they were a year ago. There definitely wasn’t any nerf warrior threads a year ago

My apologies. I didn’t realize you were new to the game. Since if you were here from the beginning, you would have remembered the favorite child was arguably the weakest class in the game when it came to WvW or PvP

No I remember the whine but whining about being weak != weak.

Mouth breathers wanted to mash 1 to victory and now they finally got it.

Having bad condi cleanse is part of the checks and balances that I was talking about. You shouldn’t have good HP/Def/Attack/Cleanse and regen with no draw backs.

I don’t disagree with you that Warriors are a tad over the top. I was just reponding to one of your comments …LOL, except there’s not even a fotm cycle in this game.

..and the Warrior is a prime example that there is a fotm cycle in this game. Necros also got a massive boost. Not to the extent of Warriors but still much stronger than a year ago. Elementalists went the other way. From heros to zeroes.

…although I do agree strongly that Anets FOTM cycle is quite a bit slower than other developers

Survival of the Fittest - new synergy

I’m wondering about Soft Fall trait (the one triggering Muddy Terrain on falling damage) possible play. Considering that Keen Edge is ability triggered by trait and affects SotF, why shouldn’t it work for trait triggering Muddy Terrain?

I highly doubt that we see synergy like this since Devs tend to know less about Ranger than a typical Bearbow, but if with some wonder it works… Well..

Then just playing on some minor hill and constant jumping down may make us beasts with ton of Condition removal (LOL)

That is correct. I have never played a game that is properly balanced. Ever. There is always 3 or 4 classes that excel over the others. Then things get patched and a couple of new classes move up into the top 4 and a couple drop out. Rinse repeat.

LOL, except there’s not even a fotm cycle in this game. It’s pretty safe to keep maining that warrior cuz the Devs can’t seem to be objective about their favorite child.

Wanting proper balance is not the same as wanting symmetrical designs. Even something simple like an FPS which has less moving parts, like Quake/CS, don’t have uniformed weapons.

Proper balance require checks and balances so that there are draw backs to the choices, of which there is very little if you play something like the warrior and they dwarf the other classes in what they bring to the table in all the metrics of this game. A lot of the the design choices in this game are arbitrary which is what I have the most problem with. Go look at the mechanics of Dark Souls 2 if you want to see something done right. EVERY choice you make in the spec/gear matters, all the way down to the weight of the equipment.

Just because classes have to be different doesn’t mean you shouldn’t need to account for the differences between them.

Because of the new Survival of the Fittest trait, it can cure 2 conditions in addition to immobilize (and the usual evade and stunbreaker). It would be OP if it removed 5 conditions on use.

My ele clears more condi with just a single heal, and I don’t have to trait anything. When I trait for water and EA, I can get rid of 3 more on top of that….

And the Ele has lower overall health, and lower overall armor. More Condi removal is kind of a requirement for that class. (Also, Ether Renewal is somewhat vulnerable to interrupts, even though it can remove alot of conditions. Most Ranger Survival Skills (as well as signet of renewal) are instant and wont be weak to that.) While people want a profession to have more of this and that, I would say the balance is not that bad right now.

You speak as if there’s reason behind that balance. Pray tell, how do you explain the warrior then which has better HP/Armor/Condi removal than the ranger? You’re projecting things that are not really there.

I don’t know what game you’ve been playing if you think the classes are balanced.

No one cares about spvp so please don’t bring that up.

This has always been and will be my litmus test: can you solo roam as a power ranger on wvw and do is successfully? The answer is a resounding no, ever since the inception of this game.

I think what you, and many others would like to see is ..

1. Pick a class. It really doesn’t mater what class because it’s just a name…because there is only:
-1 trait tree in the game
-You can use every weapon in the game
- You can use any armor you want. Light, medium or heavy.

That way everyone would be the same (except for the class name). Everyone would be welcome in groups in all phases of the game.

This game needs a PTS like every other bloody game does

Take SWTOR, it has a PTS, and when they were getting ready to add a really overpowered ability to Sniper in the coming patch, the PTS showed how overpowered it would be.

This has always been and will be my litmus test: can you solo roam as a power ranger on wvw and do is successfully? The answer is a resounding no, ever since the inception of this game.

I think what you, and many others would like to see is ..

1. Pick a class. It really doesn’t mater what class because it’s just a name…because there is only:
-1 trait tree in the game
-You can use every weapon in the game
- You can use any armor you want. Light, medium or heavy.

That way everyone would be the same (except for the class name). Everyone would be welcome in groups in all phases of the game.

Was going to write a tldr article on what is “par”.

No point really. People have their minds made up and don’t see the big picture. that’s fine. Bottom line is really simple though. I don’t like brussell sprouts. Do I complain, whine and snivle about it? Nope, I don’t eat them.

Absolutely. I am still surprised there isn’t one. It helps everyone involved to have people testing the kitten out of something before it is released.

I have played the last month in WvW with a S/D dire condition/perplexity build. 2600 toughness and 20000 HPs. With full 9+ seconds duration on bleeds Scepter 1 does insane damage because you can get 4 stacks (12 bleeds) in that time. Plus the melee has to back out when you show churn all while he bleeds. Plus with sigil changes you can proc say lightning or poison with a hit…don’t need crits.

The only problem i can see, no non-targetable auto attacks. They can be very helpful against Stealth users as well as the fact they can hit multiple targets. Shocking Aura would be a big loss as well. As would the loss of Drake’s Breath and Burning Speed as well as Cone of Cold. Doom isnt a crit sigil.

You guys are better than me on the Ele but I would think a good chunk of time in Earth. If thief goes stealth, and churn is down I would likely go fire and lay down some flames and aoe on the move…maybe even water to buy time to get back into earth..

but yea , it always comes down to Thieves …the bane of my existence. No matter what class I play and do well on, along comes a Thief or two to ruin my day

I only have 4 level 80’s. Ranger, Warrior, Elementalist and now Thief. My mood any particular day will help me decide what class I am going to play and what build.

If I feel like supporting the zerg i will equip Staff on my ele, change the build and join in……or trait my Warrior with a banner or two and bunker up.

If I want to roam I will go condi/bunker with Ranger…or use Thief…or go S/S +lb condi with Warrior.

If I want to play on the edges of the zerg and pick off people I will go glass on ele S/D ….or go rifle with Warrior …or go LB power with Ranger

etc etc blah blah etc

Every single class has strengths and weaknesses. Play to the strengths and have fun. The whining gets real old real fast.

I am generally a Ranger advocate, but yes, Ranger power builds are the bottom of the barrel compared to other classes ….especially if the 70/30 ratio is accurate. It’s basic math.

….but yes, I also think a power build can work as I use one myself in WvW at times. The 70% rule still applies though.

depends. I made a build that goes 20/20/0/0/30 and ran cats and birds while in full zerker. Passive regen from traits or quickness on swap + pet hitting like a truck should not be underestimated. This build was a PvE build though. But +30% crit damage on pets, +10% crit damage on MH axe and spotter + 10% damage when 100% endurance gave me quite a bit of DPS.
Sure the build made you, the player, hit less, but it made your 30% from the pet shine.
This was during queens pavillion, and that build carried me through all bosses short of liadri. None of those bosses lasted more then 20 seconds at best.

Sounds good. Since I never PvE, but I bet that does a lot of damage. I am only concerned with WvW…and no matter what build or weapon set it always comes down to thieves for me. The pet is almost a liability for that encounter. Takes to long for the pet to realize where the Thief is after popping from stealth, and is a ready made source to help the Thief reenter stealth.

i ran that in WvW not long ago. If you can just bind someone, so you can use Signet of the Wild to increase damage, and Quickening Zephyr for the pet so that the jaguar can just maul people down while you do your thing with the GS or axe offhand. The build is not easy to play, but with you, the player producing 4-6k crits with maul and pet doing 4-6k crits on its attacks, it is not a bad setup.

Sounds like a ton of fun. My skill level isn’t high enough to pull it off though. My dodging and opponent skill recognition is really bad

First of all, Earth Attunement is supposed to be a Defensive set. Why do you insist that it needs to do superior damage as well?

Second, if you want to deal damage and still have the effects of Stone Heart, do something in your build which allows you to have 30 points in Earth and 15 points in Arcana for Lingering Attunements. That way you can switch to Fire or Air if you want to deal damage while still having the effects of Stone Heart.

Lastly, I think it’s fair to let the thief to still get a time window where he can burst you.

Did i say anything about superior damage? Earth, especially Dagger/x Earth is rather terrible and is no threat. By no threat i mean no threat not that i think it should have insane burst damage or anything – it just isnt a threat to anyone. So while in that attunement, sure you wont be crit hit but you will also not be a threat. We have no indication that Lingering Elements will actually work with this trait.

I think it would be an interesting test. Glass Cannon melee vs S/D condi ele in Earth.

Mmmmm, i have been looking into Scepter. Not quite sure how a Condition build would work. Burning is better on Dagger which is the best condition we have access to. a double heal with Scepter/Dagger with Water Trident and Cleansing Wave would be decent though.

Yeah knowing anything about math, ranger should lose the same % of damage as any other class.
If you compare the total damage lose to a class that hits harder, say the warrior. The warrior will lose more damage compared the to ranger overall, but the warrior will still hit ~ 30% harder then the ranger.

Remember that the pet will not be affected at all by ferocity since they have no crit damage bonus to begin with. So no DPS loss here.

These math examples make my eyes gloss over but here goes.

Damage:
Warrior 1000 damage
Ranger 1000 damage (700 from Ranger, 300 from pet)

10% crit damage nerf

Damage:
Warrior – 1000 x90% = 900 damage post nerf
Ranger – 700 Ranger damage x 90% =630 +300 pet damage = 930

so post nerf Warrior hits for 900 damage, Ranger+ pet will hit for 930 damage.

Crit damage Ranger is effected less than other crit damage classes.

Those things stack multiplicatively, unless there is some hidden mechanic, which I missed, where protection reduces normal damagge by 33% and critical damage by 50% or something.

Insulting and wrong. Would you use obsidian flesh and mist form at the same time? No, that would be stupid because one already reduces damage by 100%, making the other reduce damage by 100% of 0% of original damage… in other words 0%. The same applies for lesser values: if protection is reducing damage by 33% already you are only taking 67% of original damage. If stone heart reduces incoming damage by lets say 50%, you are eliminating 50% of 67% of original damage, or 33.5% of original damage. If not for protection, you would be eliminating 50% of original damage with stone heart. Stacking multiplicatively is a bad thing when you are talking sub-one multiplication… you get 66.5% reduction instead of 83%.

It’s not like I’m saying protection or dodging are bad when you aren’t taking critical damage. It’s just that they aren’t pulling the same weight they did alone. This is opposed to synergistic things like healing and protection, which make each other stronger.

No, that’s using the glass is half empty theory. It’s like after winning a lottery and complaining because you are in a higher tax bracket.

Someone could be just as negative about your synergistic healing and protection example. That the healing pulls more weight alone and when you add protection, the heals needed aren’t as big.

Edit: and just to clarify. You would prefer the Stone Heart to be in another line so the Earth Protection isn’t watered down?

If you are a LB Ranger that’s exactly how you play it vs a zerg. Even better if you can partner up with another similar Ranger and focus fire on that Ele.

Been looking for a Ranger partner for awhile to play that way.
