Your computer is probably infected by some sort of Adware or Malware. Try googling Malwarebytes and installing the free-trial version. It’s a great free software that will let you scan your computer. The only thing missing from the free version (in contrast to the paid) is active protection.

The scan should find and remove whatever is bothering you.

Last week in EoTM I saw a guy that looked exactly like Johnny Bravo. Sadly no picture :-/

My Human Warrior, Loki Lævateinn. He’s based on Loki Laufeyson from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel comic “Loki: Agent of Asgard”. The latter is the reason why I chose Warrior (GS and dual swords), Loki has two swords in “Agent of Asgard”: Lævateinn and Gram!

Ignore his ugly armor, he’s been sitting at lvl 30-ish because I’m busy playing… -cough- a Marvel MMO -cough- and I don’t have time to lvl him in GW2. xD; He’s so cute, though. ^^ -fangirling-

Are you implying there was a point where this was different?

They were originally account bound. Or possibly even soul bound. In any case, they weren’t tradable, so you personally had to get all the components and make it yourself.

They were? o_O

I only recall them being soulbound on equip, but always able to sell on TP if you hadn’t equipped it. Though, I wasn’t really busy with Legendary from the start :P

There actually isn’t a reason. Arenanet has actually never said why, they have also never said why poison and burning do not stack in intensity.

They actually did say it is for performance reasons. Their engine couldn’t handle uncapped conditions in it’s current state. It sucks and is a problem though I agree.

Yup, I remember someone from ArenaNet stating this. I believe it was in a topic about WvW and the discussion on why “blopping” and zerging was the winning strategy.

Personally I’d like it much more if they just lowered the level cap to 20 like in GW1 and assign all zones above 20 into levels 15 – 25 or maybe some hardcore 30.

Might make some zones more interesting to visit when you’re max level.

I don’t mind the megaservers. I enjoy going through PvE content and actually seeing a lot of people.

However, I can see the flaws behind it and the problems people have with it. I don’t understand why they didn’t just implement the same system as in GW1 where you have a drop-down menu where you can pick which shard you wish to connect to… Heck, to make it even easier, assign a particular shard for RP’ers (that is always there).

I like all of the names, though not sure about the necro… maybe because it reminds me of the word aurox :P I take it the elementalist and mesmer are siblings (or married) – like the idea of them being related anyhow

I have three human characters, all with surnames relating to their origin:

Liv Phinney (warrior, from Phinney Ridge outside Divinity’s Reach)
Maua ya Kourna (elementalist, orphaned noble… ancestry from Kourna (Maua and ya is swahili – ya means “of” but I can’t promise I use it correctly!)
Jane Commoner (engineer, another orphan and street urchin)

Last one sounds all ordinary I guess but I think that’s why I like it. Plus I needed a red head. It’s her sole reason for existing, really

Liv Phinney – 7/10 (I like Liv as a first name)
Maua ya Kourna – 8/10 (Interesting with the swahili!)
Jane Commoner – 6/10 (Too common? :P)

I like your account name a lot though, “Vanadis”! 9/10

I got a bunch of characters, some more serious than others… Main on top.

Aurora Evenstar – Human Guardian
Maren Elizabéth – Human Thief
Zaishen Saint – Human Mesmer (name originates from my PvP character in GW1)
Fenrir Frostbane – Charr Warrior
Arisu Tensei – Norn Thief
Afro Montana – Asuran Engineer

“How did you decided yours? animation? looks?”

Honestly, I wanted minimal clipping so I chose Norn (female because I’m a girl irl). Most tight armors and weapons look okay on her and the idle animation is decent. I hate clipping with a burning passion… xD I loved my Asura but the clipping killed her… :c

Profession wasn’t even a question, I’ve been a Ranger since GW1 and it didn’t disappoint me in GW2: versatile, pet tank, great survivability, not overrated like Guardian and Warrior, decently short skill cooldowns, fun weapons and multiple builds I enjoy.

I love Norn as well (the female, not the male :P) and it was my first character at launch (thief). However, doesn’t the sluggish animation annoy you? I re-made my thief (Human this time) simply because of this and because I kinda like the T3 Human Medium armor!

I’m thinking of making a ranger as well but doubting between Human and Norn… Difficult :P

Because the game has a bad AI that cannot compensate for it. That’s why all the other mob hacks such as Unshakeable, leash regen, etc. exist as well.

Leash regen is in place so people can’t glitch/exploit the mobs for free kills. Lots of games have leashing and regen typically follows with it.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as ‘mob hacks’, though. Underlying hatred for the mechanics, I detect.

Maybe he’s suggesting that the mobs have become sentient and are hacking the game they were created in?

Guild wars 1 during its second anniversary

Furesy.6935

I’ll just leave this here.

GW2 Manifesto Transcript:

Mike O’Brien: “We founded ArenaNet to innovate, so Guild Wars 2 is our opportunity to question everything, to make a game that defies existing conventions. If you love MMOs, you’ll want to check out Guild Wars 2, and if you hate MMOs, you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and puts it into a persistent world that’s got more active combat, a fully-branching, personalized storyline, a new event system to get people playing together, and still no monthly fees.”

Daniel Dociu: “The look of Guild Wars 2 is stylized. We’re going for a painterly, illustrated aesthetic. Everything in our world feels handcrafted and artisanal. We treat our environments as if they are characters themselves.”

Colin Johanson: “When you look at the art in our game, you say ‘Wow, that’s visually stunning. I’ve never seen anything like that before,’ and then when you play the combat in our game, you say ‘Wow, that’s incredible. I’ve never seen anything like that.’ In most games, you go out, and you have really fun tasks, occasionally, that you get to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. ‘I swung a sword. I swung a sword again. Hey! I swung it again.’ That’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun. We want to change the way that people view combat.”

Ree Soesbee: “As a structure, the MMO has lost the ability to make the player feel like a hero. Everybody around you is doing the same thing you are doing. The boss you just killed respawns ten minutes later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”

Colin Johanson: “You’ll get quest text that tells you ’I’m being attacked by these horrible things,’ and it’s not actually happening. In the game world, these horrible centaurs are standing around in a field, and you get a quest step that says ‘Go kill ten centaurs.’ We don’t think that’s OK. You see what’s happening. You see centaurs running to the trading post, knocking the walls down, burning and killing the merchants.”

Ree Soesbee: “We do not want to build the same MMO everyone else is building, and in Guild Wars 2, it’s your world. It’s your story. You affect things around you in a very permanent way.”

Colin Johanson: “Cause and effect: A single decision made by a player cascades out in a chain of events.”

Ree Soesbee: “You’re meeting new people whom you will then see again. You’re rescuing a village that will stay rescued, who then remember you. The most important thing in any game should be the player. We have built a game for them.”

Thanks, I agree. They almost nailed it perfectly. It’s 90% right.

Reading it now, it seems it matches Guild Wars 1 more than it does GW2… lol

I’d personally also add that they should just reduce the level gap to 20 instead of 80. I see no point in it being 80 at all apart from having a major grind for nothing lol
I feel a positive effect would be that you can change the zones that are over level 20 to the end-game zones (or perhaps even level 20-30 zones). This way you increase the playing field for everyone that has max level and with (another) revamp of the trait system it could actually make sense.

Then again, just implement GW1 with new graphics and I’m happy! :P

Would You Fight To Reclaim Ascalon?

Nice thread!

I think I would fight for Ascalon. Though, this mainly derives from the fact that I see my human characters as descendants of Ascalon (due to GW1), and not of Krytan origin.

Come to think of it, it’s really a SHAME that they never provided the option upon character creation to choose your “ancestral line” of the sorts. E.g. choices between Krytan, Ascalonian, Cantha and the likes… Would’ve been cool.

Had a nice time reading all your replies. How I miss GW1 lol

Haven’t played GW2 for about 9 months now (I believe). So decided to re-install it and see what changed. Sadly, there’s nothing really new? I still have 100% world exploration apart from a couple new Waypoints and points of interest :-/

Anyhow, what I miss most from GW1 is basically everything… The huge amount of skills for starters, it made your character truly unique. Not just another profession spamming the same skills over and over again.

The simplistic leveling and traiting system (a +1 here and +1 there…), why did GW2 go the route of putting all stats in the hundreds and even thousands?

- Diverse PvP
- Jade Quarry (and FA)
- The campaigns and story
- Dedicated missions
- Quests (ya, real quests)

I actually miss playing a real support (my main was a monk in GW1). Albeit GW2 tried to do something different, it feels much less teamwork orientated.

Also, after playing GW1 from the start for like 2 years I took many breaks and returned multiple times. It was only like 6 years later that I received my first 100% exploration title and to this day I have still not seen every aspect of GW1. Whilst for GW2, I have 3 characters that have 100% exploration completed and feel like there is little for me to see ^_-

How To Get You Back?

Furesy.6935

I’ll bite.

Reasons for leaving:
1. I completely ignore LS. It doesn’t interest me, feels like nothing more but an AP grind and if I completely ignore the AP part of the LS, it’s empty and done in 5 minutes.

2. Personal story. So disappointed with it.

3. Game feels like a state-of-the-art game attempt with limited resources, rushed design and out-dated engine.

I’ll perhaps come back though, in a few months/years, to see what has been added. I still have a little hope they add a lot of GW1 to the game. (content, story-wise, quality of life updates) But, don’t think that will happen.

The manifesto said it would be everything you loved about GW1. Whilst I don’t think this is a bad game (it’s good in many aspects). Everything I personally loved about GW1 is no longer here. The only thing that is still here is the background lore that surrounds the world you play in. And that’s it.

What will bring me back?

Non-damage abilities engaging us in combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Furesy.6935

Furesy.6935

Furesy, thats what auto targeting is for of course. It selects a nearest mob you cast a DAMAGING skill on!

But we are talking about a non damaging self buff. There is no damaging or debuffing component on it whatsoever, which should not trigger the auto attack and auto target.

You know what I mean now ?

The leaps and such, if you see the tooltip they do damage a mob so they should work with auto attack and auto target because even though some people use it to gain some terrain advantage, they do still damage the mob.

Retreat and other buffs with no damage should never be affected by this.

I know :P sorry I didn’t make my point that clear! I just meant that this doesn’t happen to me in the case of >retreat<, and I just tried to hint what might be the reason for it (auto-targetting) and that I couldn’t remember it happening when I had auto-targeting on back in the day!

But I get your point, it’s annoying that would happen to non-damaging skills. Then again I find the fact you lose run speed when in combat just as annoying >_>

Afaik this is caused by the “targetting assist” or auto-select target, this doesn’t happen on my Guardian (though I can’t recall it happened when I had that option on).

so you want to change the game because you guys have no loyalty ? lmao – that’s classic.

let me remind you that it’s your kind of thinking that left the game unbalanced to begin with. -the hand-

How is me traveling back and forth between US worlds and EU worlds unbalancing the game? I’ve only visited the Tier 1 worlds on a single occasion and quickly transfered to another Besides, now I’m back where I started the day at Launch, Piken Square.

I have a few problems with this.

1. Server pride – My server is out manned regularly but we still fight. There are other servers who give up when it’s a blow out but most of the time mine won’t. This actually means quite a lot me.

2. Knowing who is who – There are a LOT of commanders now and if I feel like zerging I like to know that the commander that I’m following isn’t a cc or pve commander. If it’s random servers and depends on order that’s a lot more garbage commanders to sort through. The same goes for grunts on my server. If I set up a havok group I would prefer that I know who/how to fight with who is in my group.

3. Orders work together – They may have argued in the story but I just don’t see them going to war in the mists together.

I do agree with your idea for stats though. It would be nice to see guild performance, total kills, total supply used for each server.

1. Yes, good point. I can understand some people put in a lot of work into putting up a good fight against all odds. On the other hand, with such a system I’m sure you’ll have such fights as well :p

2. It will just take time getting to know the good commanders, as it always does. Sure there might be a lot more all of a sudden, but well, time would tell ^^

3. Well, the mists can be anything. I don’t really see Guilds going to war in the Mists either with Tyria being on the “brink” of destruction from the threat of the Elder Dragons, yet they do. WvW doesn’t really have much lore behind it besides the “World defenders in the Mists”. The Orders can be allies, yet remain competitive, and the Mists would be a much better battleground than Tyria itself. Because hey! It’s the Mists afterall xD

Thanks for your reply

Too many server pride fanatics will never allow this. Imagine the QQ.. It’d be tasty but wouldn’t happen.

I do agree they need to combine or separate servers. In a population based game, the imbalance will eventually destroy it.

I personally never had much of a World “Pride”, maybe because I’ve travelled around quite a bit to see the different Worlds and meet up with friends in EU and US… But then again, I believe you can get the same effect when you’re representing a faction, much like Luxon vs Kurzick in GW1!

Now ideally, this would work great if WvW had dozens of different maps, where the Orders can fight for dominion on each of them. However, we currently only have EB and the three identical copies of the Borderlands, so we will work with that.
Depending on how many Players/Guilds/Alliances fight for their Order, a fixed number of Districts/Zones/Overflows or whatever you want to call it, are created (I’m sure ArenaNet can figure out how many zones are needed to accommodate everyone). Players/Guilds/Alliances can move freely across these districts, to help support the war effort of their chosen Order.

So for example, we have in the US leaderboards 9 different districts.

  • Each district contains its own copy of EB and the three Borderlands.
  • The three Orders fight for dominion of these lands.
  • All the other concepts that you are used to from the original WvW remain, points, claiming lands, siege weapons etc.
  • You can use your WvW window to see what district is in need of your help (much like currently seeing the status of the different zones your World fights for)
  • Guild/Alliance leaders can set a default District for their Guild/Alliance, meaning when any of the players within that Guild/Alliance goes to WvW without pre-selecting a district, they are send there.
  • At the end of the round, we have 1 single score for each of the 3 Orders.

Benefits:

  • It no longer matters at what World you play.
  • You can play WvW (or should I call it Order vs Order or Faction vs Faction by now?) with any friends playing at different Worlds, as long as you both represent the same Guild/Alliance or choose the same faction.
  • Easier to balance the sides, from both player/Guild perspective and from ArenaNet’s perspective (e.g. ArenaNet can choose to close registration for a particular faction or use particular “prop-agenda” to lure players to that faction.
  • Retains a type of “attachment” to the faction you fight for.
  • Great incentive for new Maps, as this will create more diversity among districts.
  • Possibility to add extra sides (Hello Yellow, Yes you, Zaishen Order)
  • Possible tie-in with Lore (heck, it’s the Mists, I’m sure you can think of something!)

Downside:

  • You lose most of the “I fight for MY World”.

Now in addition to this. Since you represent your Order, provide detailed statistics to how well Guilds / Alliances perform in WvW. Captured points; total kills in the round; K/D ratios; longest held objective (after claiming a structure, might give incentive to actually defend it properly); Supply used. I’m sure there are plenty of people that don’t care about those statistics, but I’m sure a lot of competitive players/Guilds out there would like stuff like that.

Now, what do you think? Did I forget something vital? Am I raving mad? Would you like to propose? Hell, let me know!

Thanks for reading.
