“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
I understand that you are mad (most players are), but that’s simply ridiculous.
Seriously, why would anybody post such a thing?
Did any of you actually read the patch notes:
Players must work together to protect the settlements and the innocents within from the crazed horde’s sustained assault, ultimately allowing Inspector Kiel to destroy the records and free the settlers from their unfair commitments without harming any of the island’s residents.
Wait for the story to develop further…
I don’t think that the intentions of ONE NPC will make up for everything we have been doing and letting happen to the settlers lately. Also, after what she said to Canach, I’m pretty sure that she just knows that he is right and wants to be the hero herself. Beautiful. She gets to capture Canach AND help the settlers? Huzza, the heroism has been doubled! So convenient.
Canach looks like anything but a villain to me at the moment, so I must say that their attempt to make him look scarier failed and only made me feel bad for him.
Also, he sounds so genuinely concerned and so willing to help the settlers that it is hard to think of him like a villain.
On an sorta unrelated note, looks like Kiel will end up looking like the hero of the settlers by blowing up the ship full of contracts (because she says she will need all the black powder she can get). Because, of course, someone like Canach couldn’t ever be allowed to be the hero… :T
(edited by Gabby.3205)
Darkace is right. Canach’s Lair is an instance, not a dungeon (though it was announced otherwise).
You know what else were instances?
The Hatchery and Retake Cragstead. Needless to say we can’t even start to compare them to Canach’s Lair.
The sad thing is that I’ve been looking forward to today’s update for over a week. I guess all the hype ended up killing it to me.
Yeah, and Kiel wants all the wrong things with the methods that only The Consortium can possibly think that are right. Ugh, I just can’t stand her. She goes all like “I’m in charge and you are not saving anybody in my watch, but you are an evil lunatic and I’m good and heroic. Also, you are under arrest” on him, and I just wanted to punch her stupid face.
Having completed the solo mission against Canach, now I want to help him even more.
He isnt communicating much as a madman, or an evil man.
Same here. Also, now I hate Kiel very much.
I’m glad that more people think like me. I’ve been saying that for quite a while aroud this forum.
The Consortium disgusts me. I wish I could side with Canach.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/Canach-s-Mutation-Radical-Change/first
Scott gave us an explanation for Canach’s new look. However, since no npc seems to notice that he is completely different, I’m starting to think that it was just an excuse and that they just changed his appearence without giving it much thought. I wonder if they thought that we wouldn’t notice. We are not five years old.
Remember how Canach stealed Blingg’s Golem?
Here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/canachs-story-an-after-hours-meeting/
He modified it (it seems) and put it on “annoying mode”
NULL was not trying to kill Canach, it is his tool. Noll, the sassy asura, was the one sending the mercenaries to kill Canach.
I had no problem with Canach even after they removed the conditions. What really bothered me is that there was no talking before attacking him, no lore material and I got mad at Kiel for arresting him. Why? Because Canach is a beautifully developed character and Kiel is as deep as a spoon. Not what I want for a hero.
Besides, that’s what I got from the dialog alone:
Canach: I am going to free EVERYBODY and there is nothing you can do about it!
Kiel: YOU ARE NOT FREEING ANYBODY! THIS IS MY ISLAND YOU ARE UNDER ARREST CRIMINAL SCUM!
That bad.
Edit:
I guess I got the achievement bug, then. Good to know, thanks.
I play as a ranger and I got the achievement bug too. I had to try 3 times before I finally unlocked it. Try again, maybe you will get it now.
(edited by Gabby.3205)
I used conditions and it worked.
I’m a little disappointed. Kiel didn’t seem to find anything weird about Canach’s new look. The instance is short and the traps are easily avoidable.
Also, I’ve avoided every trap and I didn’t get the achievement.
But then wouldn’t the commanders just form parties and run around the map with their squads mixed up, forming zergs again?
But the Mini Moa Chick was really tiny. I should have bought it when I had the chance, I know, but I was waiting for the kitty because I thought it would be really small, too.
Oh well, I guess I will just keep saving my gems for another character slot ^^
Remember Living Story part 1 where nobody knew what was happening? That’s what is happening now.
The story is all around you, if you pay attention. Listen to what the NPCs are saying, participate on the events, read the books there are at Southsun Cove. The stories are told by the characters’ daily activities, by the environment, by the objects. Kiel won’t go straight to you and tell you everything with walls of text (hopefully).
Reading the news feed adds even more depth to the story.
I find it quite amusing. It is the best way to tell a story in a game, in my opinion.
I’m thinking there’s something much more sinister going on. References to schisms in the Captain’s Council in Lion’s Arch, the dragon festival controversy, and the growing influence of the Consortium in the politics of Lion’s Arch are pointing toward something more than just resort developers.
They are EEEEEVIL!
EVIL, I tell you!
I’m warning you, I’m warning you all!
I see your point, Silicato.
I hope that, when we finally get to meet Canach in game, Kiel says something like “What happened to you, Canach? You look horr… I mean, different” x)
That would be enough, IMO.
That’s true Niyo, but Canach’s face was changed once, so it can be changed again to an unique face. I mean, maybe he heals but not completely, so then he gets a face that is neither his original one nor the one he has now xD
Anyway, even if he doesn’t became part of the new (junior?) Destiny’s Edge, it would be nice if he became a recurring character or if he ended up somewhere we could go and talk to him. Also, if he MUST go to prison, he should go to that one at the Grove then. He is a Secondborn, after all, and I believe it would be good for him to be with the Pale Tree.
I just want to take him back to the Grove and help him heal back to his normal self. It would be good for him to talk to the Pale Tree after all this time. Sometimes you just have to talk to mommy about your problems :P
Or maybe both?
Both +1
I need MOAR minis and MOAR Canach, so this is the perfect solution.
You guys are throwing all kinds of awesome theories around this forum and making me a Canach’s fangirl
About the Destiny’s Edge, Caithe is not nice all the time. In fact, some things she did during my Sylvari’s personal story really shocked me. Canach looks pretty crazy right now, but maybe if somehow we could help him regain his sanity, maybe he could someday become a friendly NPC.
I like the way you are thinking, Dippy. I wonder if Canach can be “healed”, then.
It’s not that I don’t like his new look, it is just that my Sylvari is such a nice sapling that would love to help a Secondborn to get better.
Canach cleared out a Molten Alliance Weapons Facility by himself?! Suddenly, this upcoming solo dungeon against him is a lot scarier to me…
Nah, didn’t you see him going all ‘LFG MF’ outside the entrance?
Oh dear, I laughed louder than I should have xD
Ayrilana, that’s how it works on most countries that use the Civil Law legal system (I’m talking about the Romano-Germanic legal system, not about the English non-criminal law). Again, I shouldn’t have used that to talk about slavery since I realize it is different for countries like the USA, which uses the Common Law legal system. I was just justifying why I got so upset about what’s happening to the settlers, nothing else, and again I’m sorry for not thinking it through
ASaturnus, Blingg recognized Canach because of his voice (he says “Canach?” before seeing the Sylvari). The characteristics that he mentions are Canach’s expression and grimness only. Also, Canach waited to see “recognition in Blingg’s face” before starting speaking again, therefore I assume that the Sylvari thought that Blingg could possibly fail to recognize him, probably due to his new physical appearance.
I couldn’t agree more!
Keep it up, Scott! Awesome work!
It made me consider him a higher priority threat to be honest. I’m not a big fan of severing heads and sending them in bags so better finish him before. Of course Noll is villanious too as he’s sending grunts to kill him, but Canach isn’t good either, they’re both bad guys trying to get the upperhand from a situation. Canach is playing hero of the weak but I think this is out of spite and revenge and he probably has his own agenda here. The way he acts during the conversation with Blingg (moving in shadows during a conversation, whispering on his ear, setting fires to show things, sending bags with severed heads, showing a weapon to threat with taking his head too…) is closer to crazy psychotic than Robin Hood like hero of the weak.
But the heads he sent in bags were from the people that Noll sent to kill him, so I think he should plead self-defense
Poor Canach should be taken back to the Grove so that Mommy can lecture him.
In all seriousness, I think that he is just plain nuts, but I can’t blame him for that. He is trying to do the right thing, but I think he doesn’t know how to do the right thing anymore. I still want to help him (and to shove Noll in a blender).
No one has given me a single good reason why temporary dungeons and quests are a good thing, and why their removal from the game is a good thing.
Because there is not a good reason. The temporary dungeons should become Fractal dungeons after the events are gone IMO.
However, the removal of that content, which is not even that big, is not a good reason for stop playing. That reminds me of the people that scream “I AM LEAVING THE FANDOM” all over the internet when something that they don’t want to happen ends up happening in a show/book/game/etc.
What I’m saying is that your complaint is valid, but that you should enjoy the content while you can since it is not staying forever, and that the fact that said content is temporary doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give it a try and have fun while it lasts
Oh good, thank you Scott McGough. I am glad that you guys didn’t just think that we would forget about Canach’s old look xD
That back story made me want to help him even more. I seriously hope that we don’t end up having to kill him.
I disagree with this. They signed a contract so they should, at the least, known what they were getting into when they went to Southsun.
I’m really sorry, I took my own country’s law about this kind of stuff to talk about slavery, and I obviously shouldn’t have done that since Tyria is not my country. Here, a contract can be rendered invalid if the person that signed it was in a desperate state of need and it turns out that said contract was really bad for the weaker part, which is the settler’s case.
The dev guy said they had no choice but to go to Southsun but I disagree with that. In the world of Tyria exists a little something called asura gates that the refugees could use to go to safe cities like The Grove or Rata Sum. Not to mention the fact that the races like the Norn and the Charr are known for being resilient. Even though it was stated otherwise, I wholeheartedly believe that the refugees could have gone elsewhere. Built their own towns, perhaps.
One of the refugees says that he didn’t want The Consortium’s mercenaries after him, so of what use would trying to escape really be? If they were proper employees, they should be able to quit whenever they wanted and not be hunt down for that.
Maybe they could have gone elsewhere (and some of them really did), but they didn’t, so now they should be treated like garbage?
Norn and Charr are resilient, but they are also really proud. That kind of treatment must be almost as bad as dying, for them.
If they get rid of one of the karkas it will be even harder to get the “Crabtacular” achievement.
I just don’t get why the devs can say that “The Consortium are neither good nor evil”. What they are doing to that refugees is slavery! They force them to work, beat them into submission (with whips) and won’t let them leave the island. If you want to know, I’m with Canach. Let’s throw Karkas at The Consortium!
My main char is a Norn and I’m with you. I want to shove Noll in a blender.
You only missed Flame & Frost, the first part of the Living Story. The second part is going on right now.
I’m sorry that not being able to do one dungeon killed your interest in the game. Maybe you could try doing this part now and see if you like it?
There is no one time only content in the May releases, it’s all available for week(s) or in some cases, will be available permanently.
This makes me happy ^^
Wait, so the story ending is different for the group version than it is for the solo version? Why bother making two versions if you aren’t going to allow people to experience the story in its entirety from the solo version? That seems like it completely ignores people’s concerns about the story (it allows them to play a dungeon but it doesn’t complete the story).
I say all this as a person who actually loves group dungeons and will play this one. I won’t miss out, but I don’t see why others have to if you went to the trouble of creating a solo version.
I don’t think that’s what he meant by “The ending is different”. See how he said that it won’t end in a dungeon? I think that it means that there will be the dungeon and THEN (after the dungeon) there will be the ending, which is not in a dungeon.
Let me guess, you are Asuran xD
I like your suggestions. Too bad they don’t solve the problem that Rangers would still be cast aside, and since it is my favourite class, that makes me sad.
Of course they are expansive, they are The Consortium’s products!
In all seriousness, I understand that there are people with an extremely limited playtime that would buy it to save a minute of their time. However, I’m not sure if there are enough of these people to make it profitable for Anet.
Just for the record, Crab Toss is NOT taking the place of another achievement. We used to have 10 achievements for the daily, now we have 11, and we still have to complete only 5 of them to get the rewards.
I don’t get it. You want to play a MMORPG, but you don’t want everybody that is also playing the same MMORPG to be able to chose?
When the dungeon is released, believe me, I will be right there by the entrance looking for a group and it will be a pleasure to group up with you. We can go and get all the challenging stuff we want, we can trap Canach over and over, it will be lots of fun!
However, I’m aware that there are many people that play with me that like to solo their stories or to go in instances with just a couple of friends, not with a full group. And, you know, that people are there, playing this MMORPG with me everyday, so I think that it is good that they can chose to play the way they want to. I mean, the game was not made for me or for you, which means that everybody’s interests should be taken into account, not only mines or yours
its both a solo instance like Cragstead and the North Nolan hatchery which will unlock a grouped instance. Apparently the grouped will have a different ending from the solo so it will be worth while to do both
I was under the impression that by “The ending is different”, Robert Hrouda meant that the dungeon is not the ending, not that the two versions of the dungeon each have an ending. I like both the possibilities, though. I have no problem doing grouped content but I also like to play only with my two best friends sometimes, so I believe I will love everything about this
Nope, you didn’t read it right. There will be a solo instance AND a group dungeon (which will be harder). You know, pretty much like your personal story had solo instances and dungeons (granted, you only had to do one of them to complete the personal story).
I see nothing wrong with addressing to all sorts of players.
It won’t end in a dungeon. We have however included an instance that will open up that has a single player version, and a more difficult multiplayer version.
The ending is different
If you don’t like the solo instance, go play the harder, multiplayer version of it.
I agree with you, Niyo. I really want his old look back, unless it is explained somehow by the lore. I don’t know, like how Smeagol became Gollum xD
Also, I don’t think he is the “personal nemesis” behind the Molten Alliance. If so, why would he try to free the settlers if he was the one that destroyed their homes and forced them to migrate to begin with? I mean, if he was the one that started all the mess, why would he care about the settlers? Wouldn’t it be easier to just throw Karka on everybody if he just wanted to smash The Consortium to pieces and didn’t care about the Settlers?
Sylvari can grow and shed their plant armor, for all we know they might be able to shed and regrow their hair, change their color and even shape/appearance simply because they are sylvari. Would be good to know if they could do that and what happened to Canach’s design.
That makes sense. Maybe Canach just didn’t want to be recognized. I mean, he should be in jail, right? It would make sense that a fugitive that has the ability to change his appearance would do exactly that.
Uh-oh. I hope that we don’t end up having to kill Canach. I understand his motives, I want to tear the Consortium apart too. So they are neither good nor evil? Last time I checked, slavery was something pretty evil, and forcing people to work for you, not letting they go away, beating them into submission when they riot… That sounds like slavery.
Anyway, awesome solution! Thanks Anet, I can’t wait
Edit:
Whoa! Hoelbrak has melted?? Or is that a different locale with all those spirit totems?
That’s one of the sPvP maps (my favourite one, too)
(edited by Gabby.3205)
(had to edit some of it since a hardcore duel hater reported my comment and had it removed)
You compared anybody opposed to duels to racist genocidal maniacs and deserved to have it reported. Nothing to do with “hardcore” duel-hating.
Boy, that escalated quickly! (guys, if we let this thread derail, it will end up being closed)
Anyway, duels would be nice indeed. They would be fun to participate and to watch. The thing is, there must be a way to block duel invites from people, for I don’t want to receive an invitation every 15 seconds while I’m exploring/roleplaying/doing something else.
We already have mounts in the game, The Riding Broom.
This. I would like to see more cosmetic mounts.
But he doesnt look hot in a bikini.
But he does look hot in a speedo.
I would prefer Doern Velazquez, though.
Stop being so judgmental. I know plenty of women who want these swimsuits as well.
Like me ^^
I would be so glad if my characters could wear swimsuits instead of underwear to the beach (there is a HUGE difference, yes).
It is beautiful. I would love to have that set in the game.
I would be happy if I could wear Demmi Beetlestone’s skirt, too.
Well the OP was edited and Gummy.4278 mentions WvW forts being affected, so it’s entirely possibly for it to not make sense.
I replied before the editing, and he never said that (otherwise I wouldn’t have agreed with him).
I think the author just wanted to say that NPCs in PvE cities should celebrate victory in mists war for 24 hours and nothing else, WvW forts should not be affected, just PvE celebration
I’m pretty sure that’s what he meant.
Otherwise, it would make no sense.
