So, the last thing our team said before the video was that we needed to check in with DE to find out where Caithe went. And now they’re all… MIA, at best. Convenient.

Wow, it’s been a long time since I felt the need to log in the forums :P
I don’t think anyone important died on that crash (no, not even dear Marshal, hopefully), and our little gang will probably go look for our missing friends first thing on the next update. Well, maybe we will have to rescue Canach from the Seraph first. Then we go after them.

No, we will have 7 episodes of doing things all over the world, and on the season finale of the third season will we actually go find them.

I seriously hope not. It seems awfully out of character for our adorable group of misfits to not go after them immediately after hearing of what happened.
Regardless of each player’s feelings towards Trahearne, he is one of the PC’s best friends canonically, so leaving him completely lost in enemy territory is weird at best. Braham would want to go save his mother, and Taimi would certainly want to go after Zojja, too.

People don’t seem to die in crashes in this game. Flight is a relatively new invention so they don’t go up super high, plus all the ships were connected by the vines that were attacking them, so they could have just run/climbed down the vines as the ship was going down.

Let’s hope that you are right. If they DID die, I would like to see it happen. I hate when games kill important characters offscreen. Last time we saw them, they were pretty much alive, even if the situation was dire and Trahearne got separated from the group at some point (or maybe they just didn’t show him because Eir was pretty much the focus on the scenes, and he was in front of her?).

It doesn’t make much sense from a plot perspective…

There are entire tribes of Norn who are willingly and openly joining Jormag, and no one seems to care about that… but 2 slvari get converted into dragon minions and now all of a sudden ALL slyvari are evil?

What about the 1000’s of Charr who became minions of the crystal dragon? Why aren’t all Charr considered evil?
What about the millions of humans t hat became undead minions? Why aren’t all humans evil? wouldn’t it have been better to burn every human in existence to prevent them from becoming minions of Zhaitan?

There just doesn’t seem to be any logic behind this preview of trying to kill all the slyvari…

That’s because the other races don’t really know how it happened, and because the Sylvari are a new race and lots of people don’t know much about them.
What they know is that the Sylvari are creations of Mordremoth. They don’t care for the fact that most of them didn’t go crazy and that the Pale Tree still protects the Sylvari of the Dream, they probably don’t even know that the Sylvari themselves didn’t know they were creations of a dragon.
Because of that, even if Trahearne is still alive, the Pact is done for (at least for now). Not only because they lost most of their soldiers and equipment, but because the other races of Tyria will look at him with mistrust at best from now on. It is ignorance, pure and simple. And, really, I can’t blame them (though I CAN blame the players that are hating on the Sylvari for not paying attention to the story).

All of those people who hate Trahearne are finally happy now.
Calling sylvari traitors and such hahah, like they had a say in the matter. They are basically slaves now. Common sense would say that we should help them and free them cause they helped, well, everyone in the past. But nooo, lets burn them now etc etc. Ignorant people all over the place, just like reality.

I still hope that they didn’t kill him just to appease that crowd.
Actually, I hope that they didn’t kill him at all.

The fact that they say this kind of stuff, that “Trahearne stole our glory” and that the “Sylvari are traitors” just shows how much of the story they ignore and how many dialogues they skip, and quite frankly ANet should tell the story for people that actually care to pay attention to it, not for them.

Caithe's hair

in Living World

Posted by: Gabby.3205

Gabby.3205

It was plainly obvious that Caithe’s current hairstyle came about as her way of “remembering” Wynne, or changed to that eventually due to that experience, just as Canach’s look had.

It is probably the case. I wonder how much control the Sylvari have over their own appearance. On Canach’s case, there isn’t a single aspect of him that didn’t change, and I wonder if all of it was his doing or if it was due to being a fugitive for so long (being hungry, thirsty and sleep-deprived while at it).
But I suppose Caithe’s hairstyle change was fully intentional.

It would have made much more sense if the airstrike was used to cut-off/eliminate the mordrem reinforcements (those that had not yet entered the base), and then our job would have been to clean up the remaining mordrem in the base, then declare victory.

Not only would there be no senseless “oh look, we survived the bombardment we target at our own troops”, but it also would have made Trahearn thanking us feel a lot more satisfying.
“Thanks, you did a grunt’s job and carried that torch! you saved the day!” doesn’t feel like a very good reason for all the appreciation and credit we received for the victory.

Trahearne literally thanks the player for every little thing. ALL THE TIME.
So many of his dialogues have at least one “Thank you”. “Thanks to you” or “We/I couldn’t have done it without you” that I kinda expect him to do that, now.

Likely due to all the kittening people did about how they’re not the center of attention through the Personal Story.

I get tired of hearing all that stuff.

I don’t think so, since he does that in the PS too.
Not to mention phrases like “(excited) Welcome back! (relieved) I’m glad you are safe” that pretty much shows how much he cares for the PC. It is just part of his character, which is why I could never want him dead. Dead for what? For loving my character too much? For treating my character like his best friend? I don’t care if some nameless soldier thinks Trahearne is the sole responsible for the death of Zhaitan or something. The Pact Marshal, one of the most important characters of the game, knows what I did and reminds me all the time he is thankful for that. Maybe people that complain that he “steals their glory” should stop skipping dialogues. I, too, got tired of hearing this.

My character would kill Caithe for:

  1. Deceiving me in a moment of crisis.
  2. Leading me on a wild goose chase all over Tyria.
  3. Helping a psychopath kill innocent people and creatures.
  4. Abandoning me in a fight against a deadly dragon champion.
  5. Not trusting me.

My character is ruthless an cold to most.

I understand Caithe’s reasons, even if I do not agree with what she did (same for Canach). I really wish we had more control over the way we treat the NPCs. In a perfect game, I would also be able to make meaningful choices (like going with the Pact instead of looking for the egg or choosing if a character lives or dies), but just having a few options on how we speak to NPCs would be fine too. I mean, it is just more text, so it can’t be that hard to implement.
I really liked the personality thing, too, and it is a shame it was removed instead of expanded. It would be a good way to deal with this problem

I liked almost everything about the Finale. To be honest, I will have to wait until I know for sure if Trahearne, Eir, Logan and Zojja are alive or not to actually say if I loved or hated the finale, since this is a big deal for me. I simply hate more than almost anything else in a MMO when they kill important characters when the player is not there. The only thing that I hate more than that is showing a character in a dangerous situation and then saying they died, while not actually showing them dying/dead. Both can happen, which would make me hate the finale.
I’m optimistic, though. I believe the four of them are alright, though they are lost in enemy territory and potentially hurt, and I believe we are going to look for them in the future.

I went near the tengu wall...

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Gabby.3205

Gabby.3205

Please elaborate why it is the Pact’s problem that a few members on their own accord got themselves killed by the Tengu?

Because when members of an army are killed by people that were not involved in the conflict to begin with, said army should start wondering if these people that are not their allies aren’t actually their enemies. The Tengu crossed the line this time.

Look at it from their perspective. Scarlet’s army is comprised of Asura, Charr, Dredge, Humans, Krait, and Sylvari. Now Dredge and Krait are impossible to confuse for any of the citizens or defenders of Lion’s Arch, but the other four mentioned races can easily be confused for Scarlet’s forces. Seeing as portions of four of the various races comprising the pact have joined Scarlet, the Tengu probably has assumed a few Norn have joined as well. Now add the fact that a few Dredge have approached the wall with at least one driller, the Tengu probably assume they are also targeted. They are now in a predicament by Scarlet’s own doing. They can’t guarantee if any Asura, Charr, Human, Norn, or Sylvari that approaches their wall isn’t working for Scarlet. Do they risk the safety of their home by opening up? Or do they condemn all that approach to a hailstorm of arrows until the conflict has been resolve? Unlike the above mention races which have another stronghold to retreat to, the Tengu only have the Dominion of the Four Winds. If it falls they have no where to go.

It is possible indeed that they couldn’t tell the difference between friend and foe.

If they really shoot people down thinking that they were part of Scarlet’s army, then a formal apology and an explanation are enough to settle this. I hope that ANet has this covered.

Gabby.3205

And as one of the many commanders of the Pact it is my tactical opinion that it is not the Pact’s problem as those members did not adhere to the ample warning given. In fact they are more accountable than the citizens as they only went there out of curiosity not in a panic induce mania. Taking into consideration what the Tengu have generously shared with us, it should be obvious no aid will come from the Tengu at this time.

No problem. As one of the many commanders of the Pact, I think it is the Pact’s problem.
If you are so against the Pact getting mixed up on this, that’s fine. It is not like they had been involved with the Living Story as a whole anyway.
Also, the Tengu are paying a krewe to get an asura portal that connects them to the rest of the world. They are annoyed by the fact that it is taking too long for it to be finished. If they didn’t want to start opening up their nation, they really shouldn’t be trying to build an asura portal that will do exactly that.

In the Tengu’s case their hostile response is justifiable, as you mention this is their entire nation. There is nowhere for them to retreat to and even if there was they had to go through both Scarlet’s forces and the Lionguard as Captain Ironbeard’s orders were to butcher anyone not on the Lionguard side.

On the other hand us attacking the Tengu would be foolhardy and a waste of resources. We’ve already at war with the Elder Dragons and have yet fully recovered from our campaign against Zhaitan. The conflict between us and Scarlet is solely due to her deliberately making war upon us.

War is always a waste of resources. However, taking into consideration that this is a work of fiction, war is a plausible outcome (because, as I said before, wars were declared for far less). The thing is, the Tengu are not our allies, not even close to that. We also know that they are dangerous and wouldn’t hesitate on killing us on our time of need, since that’s exactly what they did. They are a threat. I wouldn’t be surprised if the members of the Captain Council started wondering if the Tengu will not prey on what is left of the people of Lion’s Arch after Scarlet is done.
If they were afraid of some strangles that came too close to their walls, they could have just sealed the gate and waited for it to be over instead of killing people. That’s why I think that they overreacted. I really don’t think that they reaction was justified.

Do I think that there will be war? No. I don’t think ANet is going to take the story on this direction, specially if they want to eventually introduce the Tengu as a playable race.
Do I want it to happen? Yes. This is the kind of thing that I want the LS to present us.

The Tengu aren’t friendly, they have specifically stated that they will shoot on sight at the slightest sign of trouble. At best the Tengu were the neighbors that would scold the children dared to approach them and reprimand their parents for letting their children be easily manipulated into such dares.

We have a race that is trying to open up their nation to the rest of the world by building an asura gate. What does it tells us other than that they want to eventually be part of the world, too? I could understand that, not being ready for it yet, they would stay inside their walls and not open the gate for anyone, but shooting people down? Really? What a great way to try to get on good terms with the other nations…

Gabby.3205

A waste of Pact resources, its purpose is to fight Dragons not avenge some careless adventurers who ignored the Tengu guards warning that they will fire upon anyone that approaches the wall at the first sign of danger.

These “careless adventurers” are members of the very orders that form the Pact, though. I would say that it is the Pact’s problem.

Following the same logic the non-playable races should declare war on the five playable races, the Dredge, and the Krait due to all the trouble a certain portion of them have caused.

Except that almost all the known Tengu on Tyria are behind that wall. It wasn’t a “certain portion” of them that denied help (and actually attacked) the citizens of Lion’s Arch. It was their nation as a whole. That’s more than enough to declare war. Wars were started for far less.

Any citizens that are harmed or killed by the Tengu are likewise responsible for their own deaths, the Tengu have given more than ample warnings.

Desperate people trying to escape a maniac that is burning their city down are responsible for their own deaths because they searched for help on their usually friendly neighbors? I disagree.

They aren’t worth going after.

I think Braham is way too immature, which caused the jealousy dialogue. Note, jealousy doesn’t imply attraction. To me, Braham just didn’t want to lose his best pal.
I’m not saying that it can’t happen. They are both available, after all, and Braham deserves something better after that selfish, material, ungrateful monster of a woman left him like that. Ugh, I hate Otillia. Anyway, it can happen, but I don’t ship them. I think that Rox is frequently mothering Braham, since he is so immature. I mean, he should understand how important it is for a gladium to be accepted in a new warband. But no, he only thinks of himself. What a brat. I love him, but still.

I think that the best thing about Taimi is that she doesn’t let her disability stops her from doing whatever she wants. I dislike when a story portraits people with disabilities as being hapless.
I’m sure everybody can remember a character like that: A poor kid with a disability that is picked on by everybody until someone goes to the kid and then they become friends. You probably saw that a thousand of times.
Taimi doesn’t need that. She is a good character and she can get things done. Sure, we had the problem with the golem, but Taimi’s reaction to the problem (like if it was just a minor inconvenience) makes a world of a difference.
Plus, her relationship with Braham. Braham didn’t feel sorry for her and then went to where she was and offered a friendly shoulder. No, not with Taimi. Taimi knows what she wants, and she will go and get what she wants. She went to Braham and made him her friend. She is the best.

I tell you, sometimes I complain about bits of the story, but I love these kids. Braham, Taimi, Rox, Kas, Jory, Canach, Faren… Alright, not all of them are kids, but still. I love them.

What did Southsun Cove have to do with anything?

I suspect that it was just to introduce Canach and Kiel, and maybe to add another lvl 80 map. Or maybe it was just to make we hate the Consortium and have nightmares with giant scorpion-crabs?

I hope I’m wrong.

But there is a rather major issue there: She became Scarlet before GW2 in-game timeline even starts, rather long before even (she become Scarlet around 1321AE, GW2 Personal Story starts in 1325AE and the Living Story in 1326AE with the current year being 1327AE), so HOW would we be able to meet her before that?

If this is true, then she should have been a part of the lore at launch. Like I said, a creature with her intelligence and capabilities would become a Tyrian celebrity.

The biggest problem that I have is not that we didn’t know her, but that we didn’t even know that the asuran colleges accepted other races. Actually, Rata Sum’s society seems quite xenophobic. She is the only one that we know that was accepted by the colleges (and by all of them). Out of all of her seemingly impossible feats, this is the one that I find the hardest to accept. There is absolutely no character in the entire game as talented and skillful as her, not even close, and that annoys be a bit. It feels unrealistic for the game standards.

Canach...

No, Canach has nothing to do with the Asura PS. There’s just a part in one of the Asura personal story missions that takes place in Garenhoff, which the OP remembered from the living story release where we went to the same town while investigating the karka crisis.

Oh, right lol
Thanks for the explanation. I was quite confused.

Canach is by far my favourite character of the whole game. According to that massive interview (can’t get the link right now), he is going to be transferred to the Vigil Keep along with everything else.
I wonder if his bird cage is going with him xD

Canach is part of the asuran PS now? I only remember going to Garenhoff with my asura to free Professor Gorr.
Someone should update the wiki then.

So There Is This Island...

I like this idea.
It is a beautiful island and nobody goes there anymore. Making it the new hub would be awesome.
But what to do with the Karka? Not that I am against having a main city that is not completely safe, it would be really cool actually.

Maybe we could build a wall around a big area (bigger than the camps, I mean) and put guards on the entrances, so that they would keep the Karka away.

It would be a good way to make Canach useful, seeing how nobody knows that island like he does (according to Kiel).

I was going to ask the FBI to investigate this until the form asked me for so many personal details that I was like, nah not worth it.

Don’t worry. Games are serious business. We are talking about huge companies here, I am sure they already called the feds.

So... Consortium win?

I’m kind of disappointed we haven’t touched upon the Consortium ever since release. Would be nice to involve them more in the story.

The Consortium actually played major roles on the two Southsun Cove centered events and they are at Kessex Hills (or were, last time I checked).

But yeah, I want to see them more involved in the story. Now that Canach is around again (and not locked in some invisible cell) and Kiel totally ruined their plans, I would expect to see more of them. It would make sense if Noll tried to murder Canach, Kiel and the player, and it would give me yet another reason to hate him.

Maybe something as simple as “Magic Finder” would suffice.

But wouldn’t the Consortium HQ also be destroyed?

I want Noll’s head on a spear for what he did, btw.
