We also don’t know if Sylvari are assembled in parts, or grow as other life does by cell division.

Maybe that should be an experiment to determine their personhood status.

Frankly I don’t see why it matters, aside from curiosity. If they show every other mark of sentience, what difference does it make if they were assembled or grew from cell division? It seems like about the most arbitrary standard possible.

Well, I always thought they grew from cell division.
You know where the Sylvari PC wakes up? If you go there and look up, you can see things inside transparent spheres that, to me, look a lot like fetuses.
I’m not in my computer right now so I can’t post a screenshot.

More natural hair styles please!!!

Gabby.3205

People keep ignoring the most important question.

What is natural for non-human races though?

Lol. Well, from the pictures in this thread, it looks like hair extensions are considered natural.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/55/46/5f/55465f594bb2e75f09436b6059704fff.jpg

However since ANet hasn’t specified styles for Asura and since Oola shows the styles can be elaborate, I would say just about anything goes.

Uh, yeah those are senegalese twists they’re a protective hairstyle for women with natural hair…

So you consider that a natural hairstyle? mkay

I don’t think you understand what I mean when I say “natural hair”. We have plenty of relaxed, straight hairstyles in game, typically this is attributed as “white people hair”. Black women who want to achieve this look use hair relaxers to make their hair straight like that. This typically damages their hair. However, when she wears her hair naturally (i.e. no relaxers) it takes on a soft, curly, kinky texture. The appearance and style changes depending on her hair care regimen. This is what I mean by natural hair.

So this ‘natural’ hairstyle is achieved by exposing it to artificially created chemicals, ok.

Also I’d like to point out there is a difference between “Natural hair” and “Natural hairstyle” as you seem to use them as if they mean the same thing.
Natural hair simply means the hair is real hair.
Natural hairstyle implies the hairstyle hasn’t been significantly altered (artificially) by accessoires, knots and chemicals. Or at the very least creates the illusion it wasn’t altered.

Did you at all read what I wrote, dude?! I literally said natural hair is achieved when NO artificial chemicals are used to care for the hair. When I use the term “natural hairstyle” I am referring to hairstyles that women who wear their hair naturally can achieve.

then all you have to look at is this:
https://www.google.nl/search?q=medieval+hairstyles&biw=1920&bih=950&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=-ui6VIHCEMzzULWagdAM&sqi=2&ved=0CCAQsAQ
GW2 isn’t in the modern age we are now, it’s more in the medieval times.

GW2 is a mix of styles, but not even the humans are in the medieval times. More like Victorian Era with a bit of steampunk.
The asura have that “magic-crystal-rainbow” tech style, pretty far from medieval, too.
I see no limits to their hairstyles, taking into consideration how many styles are mixed up among the four races that have hair.

While I love some of the new asuran hairstyles, not being able to dye the accessories at any time without having to use a hair style kit really ruins them for me.

Gabby.3205

Sorry, but Caithe has nothing to do with this…. Moving a whole fleet to unscouted location and start canon fire on enemies hidden below the soil isn’t very smart.

My hope still stands.

We don’t know that scouts were not send before he moved the fleet to that location. There was a lot of time for doing that, and really, if he didn’t send scouts, then how did he know where to open fire?

And I suppose that he was trying to make the dragon come out by shooting the ground, which makes sense since you can’t expect the Pact to fight something that is underground.

What went wrong with the attack was that Sylvari Pact soldiers started to attack other Pact soldiers, and that was pretty much Caithe’s fault for not telling Trahearne. This bit of information could have saved a lot of people.

You can argue that the attack would fail either way and that the dragon would bring the ships down without taking control of any soldiers, but that is something that we can only speculate about.

I hope he is alive and that he won’t be corrupted, because I really like him. Also, nobody talked about this, but I seriously hope Laranthir of the Wild wasn’t there.

Nice!

My top 5 (you might notice a pattern on the top 3)
- The party at DR. Canach was simply hilarious during that instance, and the whole thing reminds me of Phoenix Wright.
- Rescuing the Sylvari from the asura lab. I was glad they used Canach’s old model. Added to the consistency of the story. His screams were heartbreaking, too. It was a good instance overall that made me see a less cruel part of Faolain. She seemed genuinely concerned about the Secondborn.
- Looking for Caithe and Canach near Blue Oasis. Love their dialogues, though Canach’s bombs make the instance stupidly easy.
- Glint’s Lair. It was just perfect.
- Going to the Priory and reading ALL those books!

If only Caithe or the Pale Tree had told him about the true nature of the Sylvari, he most likely wouldn’t have taken Sylvari to the attack (he didn’t turn on the DE, so it seems that he is immune). The vines would still destroy many of the ships, but at least they would fight them instead of worrying about fighting their own soldiers.

Remember when the Pale Tree said that she protected the Dream from the dragon? And when she said the Dream protected the Sylvari from the dragon’s influence? And how both Scarlet and Aerin cut themselves from the Dream?
Every information we have so far points at that the Sylvari that are connected to the Dream being immune to Mordremoth’s control.
This kind of thing should have been said in a cutscene instead of in a skippable dialogue, since it seems that lots of people missed it.

About Faolain, if you look at her in the trailer again, there are some thorny vines growing out of her back. The other Nightmare Sylvari with her also have these thorny vines. I believe they were corrupted and now serve Mordremoth.

What will happen to Sylvari PCs?

in Living World

Posted by: Gabby.3205

Gabby.3205

It could be that the Pale Tree protects Dream sylvari BUT the combination of the Pact being right on top of Mordremoth’s doorstep combined with the fact that the Pale Tree is currently damaged meant that Mordremoth was able to overpower the Pale Trees protection, since his influence was at his strongest (that’s the way dragons seem to work, their influence is the most powerful at their location) and the Pale Tree is weakened.

Which would mean that Dream sylvari ought to be safe from Mordremoth as long as they don’t get any closer than the Silverwastes. Though as Mordremoth wakes up and gains power, his influence may grow even beyond that point.

Once the Pale Tree heals, then she may be able to protect Sylvari even if they get closer to Mordremoth. Which may be the method they use to eventually allow Sylvari to participate in the final battle against Mordremoth, unless they go for magical protection from another source (the old gods or something, perhaps).

Even without the Pale Tree recovering or additional magic, the PC may already be immune to Mordremoth’s influence just due to sheer force of will, or perhaps some of their past exploits. Perhaps something the PC did while fighting Zhaitan was able to “dragon-proof” them, for instance. Or maybe even the purification ritual of this most recent episode.

It might be that combination of factors, though that means we REALLY shouldn’t be taking Canach with us (he is joining our lovely group of misfits, after all).

I really doubt that the “immunity” is something specific to the PC, especially because Trahearne didn’t seem to turn on the DE on the ship. That can be because he carries a piece of the Pale Tree with him, his GS Caladbolg, but then the Canach problem remains.

What will happen to Sylvari PCs?

in Living World

Gabby.3205

The Pact wasn’t aware of that. Two Sylvari were corrupted before, and that’s all they knew.
The Pale Tree also said she managed to protect the Dream from the dragon attack, so while she is still alive, for all we know, Dream Sylvari can’t be corrupted.

I would actually assume that the Pact (they do contain elements of the Order of Whispers and the Priory after all) would have connected the two: “Sylvari that cut herself off (Machine) from the Tree went mad.” and “Sylvari that cut himself off (Soundless) from the Tree went mad” and as such, they would not bring Soundless at the very least.

Which would suggest that the masses of Sylvari that turned against the Pact during the attack on Mordremoth were Sylvari under the “protection” of the Tree, which clearly didn’t help them all that much.

That’s assuming too much.
First, assuming they would make that connection with no other evidence to start with and only two “samples” is expecting too much. They didn’t hear the words of the Pale Tree like we did.
Second, we don’t know how many Soundless are out there. True, we assume there are way less Soundless than Dreamers. But what if most, if not all of the Sylvari in the Lionguard are Soundless? And the Sylvari of the orders? You wouldn’t want to share your emotions with nearby Sylvari if you were a member of the Order of Whispers, for example. That Sylvari that is clearly seen attacking Logan is wearing a Lionguard uniform. I actually didn’t see any Sylvari wearing Warden armor attacking the Pact, but I might have missed them, so feel free to point them at me.
Also, that “mass” of people were not necessarily all Sylvari. They were also the soldiers of other races fighting them.

The PC is a Dream Sylvari.
The Pale Tree clearly stated that the Dream protects the Sylvari from the dragon’s influence.
The PC, like Trahearne, Canach, Caithe and every other Sylvari that was born from the Pale Tree and did not turn their back on the Dream is safe from Mordremoth’s control.
Sylvari born from another Tree, Soundless and Nightmare Courtiers are the ones at risk.

I highly doubt all those masses of Sylvari that were with the Pact were all non-Dreamers tbh. In fact I would almost bet that none of them were, seeing as the Pact was fully aware that Soundless seemed more likely to be corrupted by Mordremoth.

The Pact wasn’t aware of that. Two Sylvari were corrupted before, and that’s all they knew.
The Pale Tree also said she managed to protect the Dream from the dragon attack, so while she is still alive, for all we know, Dream Sylvari can’t be corrupted.
It can, of course, be a matter of strong will, or something else altogether, but the words of the Pale Tree are all information we have right now.

I think you might have misunderstood the nature of the Sylvari.
Also, only a few of them have “wyld hunts”, which is the closer thing to a “program” that they have. And after completing them, that’s it (except for the Sylvari PC).
They are sentient beings. They have feelings, intelligence, and they do have free will. Yes, really. Just a small number of the Sylvari that were born from the Pale Tree can even be controlled by the dragon (only the ones that turned their back on the Dream).

So no, Vorpp is a monster and I would like to shove him in a blender.

There is a difference. Asura being Inquest and doing their evil science is totally voluntary. I would say they are a bit worse because of that.

So yes, spirit of someone that died in the maguuma is better than “just a dragon minion”, would fit very well with the connection I made between my main in GW2 and my main in GW1 actually, as instead of just finding some objects somewhere near the tree that belonged to my GW1 character, she could have her spirit.

I agree. I really like this idea.
Knowing the Sylvari are dragon minions made me think a lot about what happens to them after they die. I always remember Sieran saying she was going to the Mists, but was she, really? Do Sylvari “return to the dream”, like their elders say? Do they even have souls, or are they just constructs? It breaks my heart that Sieran might have found an eternity of nothingness instead of the Mists.

There were Pact Sylvari attacking the DE + Trahearne on the ship. I don’t know if all of them were Pact Sylvari, but some of them were. I suppose they were soundless, which made the dragon able to control them, like happened to Aerin. Mind you, there was nothing wrong with being soundless prior to Mordremoth’s awakening, and since almost nobody knows yet that the Sylvari are creations of the dragon, there was no reason for them to not be allowed in the Pact.

If you did Crucible of Eternity you’ve known for 2 years that Sylvari were actually dragon minions not to be trusted.

Better put all Sylvari to the torch. I’ve been in support of that since oh, LS season 1 when Scarlet was revealed.

Yeah lets burn every race that has at least one evil person in their race (Let’s go with Scarlet being evil, I still have think they will reveal her as someone trying to do good but in a different way) aaaaand the world would be empty.

There’s a big difference here. You are not people. You are dragon minions. You are constructs. You are not born, you are created as an imitation. Knowledge is planted into your head, and you act on it. You do not learn your own perspective and choose your own path, your path is set before you, you are programmed.

The only difference is what knowledge was planted into your head prior to the Dragon’s Awakening was Ventari’s Teachings rather than the instructions of the Dragon.

Now the Dragon is awake, and able to reprogram Sylvari to serve him.

This isn’t a case of a few bad apples. This is the case of all Sylvari being vulnerable to corruption from the Dragon.

As far as we know, the Pale Tree still shields the Dream Sylvari from the power of the dragon, so not every Sylvari is corrupted. If Trahearne survived the crash and is shown to be corrupted, him of all people, then the Dream Sylvari might be in trouble too.
However, I see why there would be lots of mistrust from the other races. After all, who can say someone is a Dreamer or not, other than the Sylvari themselves?

One of my Sylvari is of the Dream (my main one), so she is pretty much safe for now.
The other, however, is soundless. I think I will ask my friends to lock her up somewhere until this is over.

I didn’t like the fight much. Seemed too convenient to lock my companions outside of the “ring”.
I was with my Sylvari, who is pretty much my main character now since I only play the LS with her, and I felt nothing but hatred for it. It attacked the Pale Tree, after all.

But ppl say the Sylvari get killed in the trailer and yes I see that too. But some minor shadow details make me think it are the nightmare court ones that are killed. Adding that at the end of the fight you see someone with a spear killing a non-sylvari guy. This person somehow reminded me of Foalain (leader of the nightmares).
Yea possible that I’m switching persons up

Pretty sure it was Faolain, and there were weird stuff growing from her, so I suppose she went full mordrem. Guess we are going to kill her soon-ish.
Unless Caithe intends to use the egg as a “cure” somehow, but I don’t think that it is likely to be any cure for this kind of stuff.

I’ll take a closer look again at that trailer but I’m pretty sure nothing weird is growing out of her, looked to me like TA shoulders that she always wears.

Here, at 1:07
There are spiky vines growing out of her back, that’s not the TA shoulders since they are leaves, not spikes. Also, seconds later, you can see BOTH the TA shoulders and the spiky vines (it is easier to see when it zooms in).

I don’t think the Tree can be taken by Mordremoth unless he exerts huge and close influence on it personally, but the individual sylvari are a totally different thing. Let’s not forget that in the cinematic almost all sylvari in the Pact fleet were instantly taken by Mordremoth and they started attacking their fellow Pact members of other races.

Are you sure those were pact Sylvari? They don’t seem to wear the usual pact uniforms. I would’ve guessed that those were in fact Sylvari from other trees (as we know from the Sylvari personal story that there are other trees further west) who are the dragon’s minions and attack the pact to defend their dragon.

There is validity in what you say, but in the cinematic there is clearly at least one Lionguard sylvari going berserk (and there were Lionguard on the ships since all cities sent troops to help the war effort) and some other sylvari are shown blowing up the ships they are on. The truth might be in the middle since it’s almost certain we will fight sylvari of different trees in the jungles, who will be joined by Pale Tree sylvari taken by the dragon and definitely the Nightmare Court (since we see Faolain killing a Pact trooper in the cinematic with a spear).

Malyck, my friend, yours is a woeful destiny…

I wonder if these Sylvari were all soundless.
If Dream Sylvari are going crazy, then lots of important characters might be at risk (Trahearne included, if he survived the crash).
