Well of Gravity rename suggestion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Just a quick thing here. I saw the live stream of the Chronomancer and while most of the names of skills were related to time there was one that stuck out as strange to me, “Well of Gravity.” While the name does fine explaining what the skill’s function is I feel naming it this is a mistake. I think something along the lines of Singularity, Singularity Point, or if you must have the word “well” in the title perhaps Singularity Well.

A singularity is defined as a point at which a function takes an infinite value, especially in space-time when matter is infinitely dense, as at the center of a black hole.

I feel that these names better fit the theme of time magic than well of gravity. Another reason I think you should consider renaming the skill is to leave room for, and save references to gravity for future specializations like a geomancer for the elementalist or some kind of gravity magic specialist down the road that would have lots of knock downs, floats (on ground), pulls, pushes, slows, etc.

Agreed, Well of eternity sounds timely, calamity sounds like an unpleasant time, recall sounds like a reversal of time and procog a glimps forward in time.

action I’m not sure where the time pun comes in, but gravity certainly is way off the bat for a chronomancy name.

Well of fluctuation, singularity, collapse, slip-space, reverse etc could be better suited names as they relate in some way to time in a function that could affect a person’s position.

Would be nice to see if they change this, well of gravity is a cute name but it really doesn’t fit the named theme of a chronomancer. Sounds like a time wizard suddenly affecting something that isn’t exactly time but rather force like as you said a geomancer.

Heck uroboros well or well of uroboros could also suit better as the definition of this word is “a circular symbol depicting a snake, or less commonly a dragon, swallowing its tail, as an emblem of wholeness or infinity.”

No matter how many times you go around you end up at the same place, much like being pulled to a central location.

I wonder if they will change the name or not, but i agree it could do with a more time oriented title.

It has to be guardian, celestia blue color and that helmat scream it.

Given the wings + bow I’m assuming it might be an arch-angel/celestial concept maybe? Something that carries the guardian’s holyesk styling much like the warping values of mesmers turned into chronomancer.

Should know soon since they slipped the mes+shield art before they did a stream on chronomancer so I suspect guardian is the next on the table for talks.

I’ve never felt HM fit in that tree anyways, feels ‘off’ to me ><

pretty sure it was in the power line initially, then they juggled/combined it or something. But i could be misremembering.

HM is not 1 trait, its one of those merged ones, originally we had 5 1 was for toughness while channeling mantras but its base lined now, inspiration line has the when you chant mantra you aoe heal.

The remaining three were for cd, 4% dmg boost for every readied mantra and the 1+ to mantra stacks, those last three were merged and place din dueling. Even though the 4% one was originally duelings gm it switched with the dom line’s 1+ stack trait a while back.

New traits hurt axe warriors

Galeskyring.9617

I disagree. The new trait does not work the way the old trait did. The new version is a boost to burst damage, not a static +10% to +20% depending on your adrenal level so long as you don’t use a burst skill (allowing you to keep up higher damage with a three condition removal in your back pocket). Not the same thing at all. You are trading off +20% damage on most bursts vs. +2 adrenaline from axe skill plus 20% cooldown reduction on axe skills plus +150 (1 axe) or +300 (2 axes) ferocity. Not sure that you’re making the better choice by taking Berserker’s Power (more damage on bursts) over Axe Mastery (more attacks due to lower CD, quicker adrenaline building, plus extra damage on crits from all types of attacks so long as your are wielding an axe).

Op is saying you cannot combine them anymore, axe wielding wars could use these together now they have to choose and reduce the efectivenes of an axe wielder who relied on high adren = dmg boost results while having lower axe cd then other wars not using the mastery.

The new system holds them both as 1/3 grandmaster choices thus 0 combo value since they cannot both be selected in this system as opposed to current.

That looks like every trait tree since Diablo 1.

Rift is a more recent game, a toxic system for builds is never good, seeing it come here is a very bad sign people need to realize.

its what anet is mimicing with this change, only instead of being given so many branches to pick form up the tree we get 3 per layer of the tree, whats that under? that’s roots powers you unlock the more you put on the tree, but with gw2 bits baseline powers.

in rift these are called souls each of the 4 classes use, and that game’s build environment is very toxic, bring X build to Y content or you cant do the content/party-kicks.

the difference her ewe are getting even less options then rift’s souls

the people who say this 3 line system is better are dead wrong, its easier for the company to control what builds come into play an dhow they work, some people hope ‘elite’ specs fix this but it won’t. It will just create new premade builds with no diversity and if/when we get templates we will have people telling us to bring pre-made builds to content especially in pvp.

‘yo dude get your morter support build while our guardian plugs his bunker spec and our ele plugs their healing spec’

right now we just got demands for zerk builds, this 3 line system rails players into less build potential, gives the company more direct power to force premade builds and then if/when we get templates we will see these premades getting demands to be brought.

Some peole even say thats short term think long term, I AM! people say we got useless ‘traits’ now well down the road we will get useless lines instead.

the limited room of spec-lines means less diversity and more dedication based on that line, aka dps line tank line support/heal line. Its a dangerous change that could sneak the trinity into guildwar2

I know what I’m talking about, gw2 isn’t my first mmo and like others wise enough to see the signs, this is something gw2 doesn’t need because it will push it towards a bad place it doesn’t need to be.

I spent at least an hour last night going over the dulfy shots of mesmer lines and there is NOTHING that interests me anymore cause whats left I like has been shelved in places I cannot reach or its been removed all together or got it’s functionality completely morphed into something else.

Regarding elixir infused bombs – yes, maybe that exact build is gone (I run it too), but the trait that causes all blast finishers to heal should more than make up for it, especially when paired with the “all heals are blast finishers” and evasive powder keg = finisher (blast finisher every time you dodge) traits. Add to that the very long range heal from the mortar (which we havent really been able to use much in the past). I can see a brand new – and probably stronger – cleric engi emerging.

It won’t replace it to any degree. Even if the new trait does put out the same amount of healing, it won’t provide that point blank maniacal PBAoE playstyle that rewarded you for crazily getting up in your enemies face and chucking and glue trails and oil trails and every other interesting little trick you could stick in all while barely surviving.

It will probably be just as viable as a sustain bunker, heck most likely even more so, but it won’t provide the playstyle that is being lost.

Yup support the I told you so’s we knew it was bad but anet is forcing it on us anyway. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/I-didn-t-want-to-say-it-but-post-spec-stream/first#post5001383

After watching the AMA,I can see that the system will be a lot worse than I thought
it could be.It’s a major dumbing down of the game in the fashion of all the previous changes done to it.3 choices per trait quality and 3 trait lines….it’s not as bad as WoWs
non skill trees, but give it a few years. Now they consolidated to 9 traits per trait line.
Someday each line might have one big trait. So E sporty!
That, and the fact that lvl 80 toons with all the traits unlocked
will be stripped of their traits, and will have to grind hero points….
No no no.
Oh well…can’t say I didn’t see this coming but hope dies last.
I’ll just wait it out in WvW without buying the Xpak until CU goes live.

Yup I knew this form the blogs last night alone, but since the ama I made an I told you so thread and have stubborn people huffing at it cause they don’t want to admit when something is bad and being forced on us https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/I-didn-t-want-to-say-it-but-post-spec-stream/first#post5001383

I
TOLD
YOU
SO!

And I’m not the only one, those of use who knew this would blew up sat there and watched that stream and confirmed it first hand how much it ruins diversity.

Like 2% of the whole overhaul for each profession was justified while the other 98% was a complete funeral service to a vast majority of builds mine and many others just got buried in an unwanted grave.

Example they are over forcing theirs to focus on dodging a ton and or stealing for an unwanted amount of extra stealth while mesmers are being shoehorned into being ranged damage dealers who HAVE TO SHATTER regardless of preference unless they roll a hard phantasm build and took away another vital trait from a vast majority of mesmer builds AGAIN

engis already had a blast problem for might stack and invis but now they gonna unload gatling style with it while guards are gonna become heavy mobile tanks more so then usual.

I could go on but I’m not going to, by the time they got past mesmer I felt like I was gonna puke at how bad this was and even worse its gonna hit us before hot does.

So yes big fat I told you so’s all around because a countless many of us knew this 3 line lock was a bad idea.

Peace out, and RIP build originality you will be missed.

It’s posts like these that make anet devs not want to update us on what they’re working on.

ANet: Guys, here’s what we’re going to do.
Players: This is a bad idea, we do not want it that way.
ANet: Okay, next time we’ll just roll out that bad idea without asking you.
Players: ?!

Lol exactly.

The entire point of a beta test is to TEST if the change is worth implementing, 0 beta no chance game blows up players find a new game.

If the company hides from negative feedback they’ve failed as developers, the game won’t live if they look to draw on positive only because that gets us no where.

Instead of everyone hammering on Gale, look at what it means for builds.

Yes, there IS a possibility of more build diversity by divorcing stats from traits, BUT how many people max out, say Air Magic for the Precision, rather than Fresh Air? I’d wager most people select traits based on the trait, not stats, so that’s a non-issue.

The main point as I see it is that this flowchart style of trait selection won’t allow players to “double up” on traits as we’ve done in the past. Slotting a Master level trait in a Grandmaster slot has been common practice because many traits are useless, non-functional, or both. Players also tend to spread out trait points, for the express purpose of maxing DPS, survivability or both, usually ending up with builds that max one line at 6, have another (or two) at 4, and a couple with 2. Sometimes going 1, 3 or 5 points is also acceptable, and even optimal based on what traits are selected.

Now what this means at launch and in the long run is that ANet is going to have to re-work and re-balance EVERY single selectable trait in every single traitline for every single profession to make selecting 1 out of 3 traits a meaningful choice. If one has to choose between a 20% damage/<33% health trait like Bolt to the Heart and a Precision converted to Healing Power: 7% trait like Soothing Winds, its not much of a choice.

With their current and past track record of, for lack of a better term, “mishandling” profession balance and bug fixes, I don’t have a lot of hope that yet another new system of progressive unlocking is either viable or healthy for the game. The NPE was a clear mistake, and rather than just revert to the original system which, as far as I know, no one complained about, we’re getting ANOTHER system that likely won’t be playtested, come with multiple bugs, and may make balancing professions even more of a nightmare, AND take longer between iterative patches.

So while I hold out hope for ANet, pragmatically I can’t believe they’re serious. Its a nice GUI (maybe someone’s been playing a little FF), but functionality of traits should be paramount.

THANK YOU! someone who understands!

I also disagree that this will limit build diversity, but I will concede that it will change what types of builds are available. So a build type that you’ve been running for a while will no longer be possible, but new build types will be appearing as a result. I do realize this will be tough for people that really like their builds and want to keep them, but there may be other builds that you will enjoy playing more if given the chance. That’s the hope at least.

We’re losing a lot more diversity/options than we are gaining.

We could have the current diversity and new builds made possible by being able to max out 3 lines if we were still allowed to spend points as we want. It’s adding 2 more options within a single traitline, but removing the ability to diversify trait point spread and forcing the use of only 1 trait of each tier.

THANK YOU somebody who gets it! 1+++++++++

This is my review of the two blogs anet has put up regarding specializations Now it seems like a hate post but it’s not, its a warning to anet of what kind of problems will fall into the game if this isn’t stopped or at least seriously rethought and reworked..

1 line reduction:

So anet said that they will be limiting traits from 5 to 3 and merging ‘some’ traits together while moving or removing ‘useless’ traits.

The first problem with this is freeform builds, not everybody is compelled to spend 6 points to a line unless A: they want a grandmaster trait or B: they want to grab an extra adept or master trait. People who don’t spend 6 points in 2 lines will easilly be branching into 4-5 lines for their builds, collecting all the traits they feel makes their build special.

If anet hammers this change onto us we won’t be able to freeform build as much, because we will essentially be forced to spend 6/5/5 There won’t be any real freeform builds. Everyone will have to pick 3 lines then dedicate full into those lines while choosing just one of them to max out.

More power! You now get to select nine major traits instead of seven, including three grandmaster traits.

So basically everyone is spending 6/6/6 not 6/5/5 as you suggest. Meaning we can max out 3 lines instead of the 2 we curgently can. Seeing as you can’t even read the very limited information we have available perhaps you should reserve judgement before writing a novel based on incorrect information…

Another person who didn’t bother to even read carefully why do you people strike my posts when you don’t stop to even understand what I just said.

This is MY FEEDBACK TO anet for what they posted and I’m not the only person unhappy here the forums are flooding with people unhappy about it because its going to robe them of their build diversity and force them to sit in a small cubical build with no real options on how to play.

Because you didn’t bother to read and understand the original blog post. Half of your feedback is based on incorrect information.

So you are saying you want to be a special snowflake with a 14/14/14/14/14 build? Traits needed an overhaul years ago. Game balance needed an overhaul 3 years ago. This is potentially all good news.

clearly you got it completely wrong, only an idiot wants to max all lines on a wide line choice.

What anet is doing is confining us to 3 lines, and those lines automatically are maxed or near maxed depending on whether you want 5/6/5 or 6/6/4 and options in each line is extremely limited, there won’t be any originality in builds nor diversity.

You pick 3 lines now. There’s no chosing of how many points to put in. It’s always 6/6/6. Your choise now lies in which specializations you run and what traits you pick in the line.

You should re-read the whole articles, as clearly you’ve misinterpreted the first things they said already.

]

stop posting, you didn’t read a word or understand it.

3 lines PERIOD 1 line max ALWAYS 2nd line is only maxed if you choose not to spend evenly on the last line and 2nd, that’s not really a choice, one line is always gonna be max and the other lines will either be even 5s or you lessen one to 4 to max a 2nd its not a true diversity.

You really don’t have enough information to be saying anything negative about it. Also any developer that takes input from someone not familiar with a system is a terrible developer.

I have enough info to be positive about it because it completely divorces stats from traits.

You clealry A: didn’t read everything or B: clearly misread everything

I don’t have much issue with losing stats off trait lines my problem is the huge lose of build diversity being taken away form players who put hard work into their builds and will not be able to truly play how they want with three lines which will end up being nearly identical to other player show chose the same line due to the explicitly limited amount of choices inside that field.

4 Trai-er specialization vs specialization?~!:

Ok this is more then a little silly, arenanet said they want to eliminate confusion for new players, but this is gonna do the opposite.

Right now we have 5 lines called traits, but when this system goes up there will no longer be ‘traits’ at least in name, instead we are getting ‘specializations on top of our ’specialization’ that’s going to be unique to our profession.

Oh sure I know you’re gonna say but what was traits is now will be called CORE specializations while druid will be an ELITE specialization but here is what you’re not getting.

Doing this not only OVER uses the term/word specialization but will also cause confusion in events were players ask or refer to ‘specs’ and because its a a problem because of what I’m about to say next.

When anet first announced specializations we were all amazed and excited, some concerned of course, but one thing that wasn’t addressed then was how exactly we would be given access to them.

Thanks to these blogs we know now that instead of having some simple new UI toggle to flip between base profession and specialization profession we come to find that we are going to be forced into a tight hole.

That’s right, specializations like the druid won’t be so easily blended with current or future builds without some form of big brothering. So not only do we have to basically throw our builds through a shredder, then try and stitch new ones together via the 3 line restriction, we also have to decide weather or not we TRULY want our profession’s specialization, because all their skills the weapons and what not will be locked behind a special line we have to include in our three line choices.

A mesmer might say hey I wanna be a dueling domination illusionist toting a shield and making an utter mess of things NOPE stop right there, shield usage redistricted unless you forget one of those things, you can only be a [dueling chorno illusionist] or an [illusionary dominator of time] or a [chronological dueling dominator].

So on top of the 3 lines limiting our choices for builds it also severely restricts how we could play our specializations if we choose to take them. Specifically because they will be given to us in the from of trait lines which means if there is anything about it we want we have to sever an arm or a leg of our build to nit pick a few things out of it.

What we could be doing with specialization potential under the current system we have for builds is FAR better then what a 3 line limiter would allow us.

this reminds me badly of games like rift, where certain class/profession mechanics or skills were deemed required by content creators of the game. Even after selling the ‘play your way’ to get you in game, games like rift then continually dumped content on you that required specific builds in order to complete the content, and guilds especially had to go to great lengths to do this content because everyone had to bring an explicit build to the party.

If arenanet does this too us, we will have much of the same problem. because each of the lines won’t be dedicated purely too offense defense or support or such.

There has always been some measured mix of those things in each trait line even if its overall goal was one of them and retraining our options to 3 lines and making it so we can’t use our professions real specialization unless we sacrifice one of those lines to use it and be forced to use whatever trait choice sit offers us weather we want them or not is going to make the game more stagnant.

Even with stats removed from trait/core specialization lines we will still be given very few choices, we won’t be able to run three core lines and an elite line, we will have to choose, 3 core or 2 core and 1 elite.

Arenanet even said that the specializations would be toggle-able out of combat, but what of say two years down the road when every profession has 2 or more specializations will we be able to mix them together or will these things we be yet more walls restricting our choices of how we want to play in exchange for a new skill or weapon.

I for one don’t see this as a good call, I’d much rather have the real specializations restrained to a ui where i choose if its on/off and which spec it is rather then get my traits restricted to 3 lines and then be told i can’t use my spec unless I throw away one of those lines to access it.

But given heart of thorns has no release date yet hopefully arenanet will think it over before they drop the hammer on us. Because this is a bombshell of a change and it certainly is carrying more cons then pros into the game. Because as it stands my build will die just because of the 3 line limit, but when looking to specializations forget modifying/upgrading my build, its gonna get butchered just to even use the specialization my profession gets.

Don't you do it anet! (spec blog feedback)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Galeskyring.9617

2 Trait ability choices:

As anyone can see in the image, we have a line connecting the dots, what was once a minor trait ability will now be a junction between our choices, that hasn’t changed.

BUT if you look at the sections between them, we have no more then 3 choices at those points in the line, 3 specific options, as you can see this line isn’t back tracking at all. That means if you max the bar out (which you don’t have much of a choice to with 3 lines) you’ll be only allowed to pick 1 out of 3 specific choices at each juncture no ability to make possibly unique combinations out of say 2 adept/master level choices, because you’ll be forced to accept a 1/3 choice each time.

This will completely limit us too a pool of options based on that juncture with no combination power at all with anything else in that pool like we currently have, plus if we see say 2 lines which traits we want but everything else in said line we view as not valuable to our builds we won’t have the option of spending there without having to put even more points into it which will give us traits we don’t want because of the 3 line limit and only 1 of them will be max which means no more double grandmaster trait builds so you are forced to choose just 1 and only 1 to include in your build.

3 Merged moved and removed traits:

We’ve been given some example of what traits might get merged, for the most part they seem ok.

HOWEVER we don’t know which traits are going to be merged together and which ones will be moved where and which ones hit the trash can.

A trait you love might get paired with a trait you think is absolutely useless cause you never bothered with it before while another trait you loved and used all the time gets moved someplace you cannot reach it or its simply taken away all together.

And thanks to the 3 line limitation and inability to combine traits from the same tier pool You won’t be able to pick and choose like you can currently. If the trait gets moved to a line you hate and is positioned high in it you’ll be fore to pick form traits you don’t like or ever use to obtain that one skill you know works for you.

Say you want a support build or your profession is bad at mitigating conditions you get, now normally you might spread your traits out to acquire several anti condition traits which could take points being spent in 4-5 lines easily depending on what you play. but with a 3 line limitation such things are completely denied too you.

You won’t be able to collect traits from various lines with careful spending to make a truly unique build that suites your play style, instead You’ll have to use whatever is shoved down your throat from a hard-lined limited option pool inside three specific lines.

Now i know some noticed the nine options they mentioned but it snot true, its three stages of a 1/3 choice, meaning that each time you can only pick one of that sections three choices and that’s it.

This is a grossly over limiting system compared to what we have right now, and a lot more builds will get killed off for it if this goes into the game.

specs: not able to use more than 3 lines?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Galeskyring.9617

Galeskyring.9617

I DO NOT support this either and I am a huge gw2 fan, i support the game a ton but this nononono JUST NO

I was excited fro specs but now we learn we don’t get to just have it we gotta gut one of our trait lines to get it?! WHAT!!!!!!!

Trait line flips to spec line and we get locked to 3 lines and if we want the new weapon and what not we gotta sack one of those lines to get it and potentially will hate everything else about the spec we had to eat into just to get a weapon -.-

I see so many people in-game sharing their builds and more often then not its more then 3 lines of spread, just cause a trait skill is grandmaster doesn’t always make it better. My own build as well as many others out there people have worked kitten consumed 4 lines, not all of which die hard dumping 6 into 2 lines.

Some people only go to 1 grandmaster and spread more out over the other lines. And don’t forget the lose of stat points, we already got too many “ZERK ONLY!!!” lfg posts and demands out there, moving stats off traits and onto gear will over inflate the fire of such demands.

Those of us who’ve been wanting too improve and expand on our builds with spec’s are now being shot in the face with a big fat NO as we are not only losing the power to spread points over 3 lines but now we are also being told we won’t be able to access specs period unless we gut one of our lines to do that as at all?!

My build is very effective and flexible because of how i spread my points and i’ve put a lot of work and love into it, arena please don’t do this!

anet claims they don’t wanna invalidate our work on our characters but builds are a major part of that and choke holding us into 3 lines is gonna kill more free form builds then people think, meta builds do tend to only use 6/6/2/0/0/ but that just means lots of them won’t be hit by the 3 line limitation but those of us who worked kitten careful point spreads are gonna get hit hard for this

People are saying they don’t want useless traits WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK A THREE LINE LIMITATION WILL DO, At least at 5 lines we could grab more traits we want, but odds are any moved traits won’t be where you want them and to top it off you will have to stomach eating into only 3 lines to get through traits you could easily hate having just to get 1 good one.

Look at the pics they gave us, sure they aren’t finalized but its a bad omen of things to come if it’s not changed! minor traits being the octagon shapes and between them are 3 blocks which according to the lines shows we will be choosing 1/3 per segment in those places unlike now where we could spend 6 in a line and pull all from the adept level because those traits worked for us.

Now stop and think again, not only will we have these limited choices in each of those 3 lines but we won’t be able to build as freely as we can now because 1 of those lines has to be sacrificed to access the special specialization which anet announced every professions gonna get PLUS according to these blogs traits will be extinct after hot release, and be known as SPECS ALSO that’s gonna confuse new players to an insane amount “uh I do have my spec, its fire magic!” NO ITS NOT THAT’S AN OLD TRAIT LINE ITS NOT YOUR SPECIALIZATION.

Sigh there’s my vent, but that’s fact, reduction of 5 lines to 3 is a huge limiter on builds, forcing use to choose from smaller pools of powers And whats more we won’t be able to use specializations THE REAL ONES without throwing away one of those lines just to get a new weapon or utility’s heals or elites, is gonna force us to submit to traits we might very well not want too use just to get them. Yes some traits will be merged and such but who’s to say it will be merges you want? based on what they showed us some will be reasonable some will be WHAT moments.

Many of us adapt our builds almost on a daily bases but we have the power to spend in wild and fun ways, 3 lines won’t give us that and I suspect if this lands people will not only demand zerk builds but specific ‘spec’ builds what with the idiotic confusion of flipping trait to specialization when specs the real ones are what we are getting in hot.

So sorry for shouting guys and sorry this post is huge but I needed to vent this announcement frustration and things had to be pointed out.

Mesmer future weapon speculation

in Mesmer

Posted by: Galeskyring.9617

Galeskyring.9617

I don’t think shield will have a phantasm skill. Anet are changing the class mechanics, it’s also been said that classes, that are only getting an OH weapon are getting compensated some other way. So I think that we are losing phantasm and clone generation (current clone and phantasm skills are getting changed) losing shatters and getting a different mechanic for the chronomancer.

Edit: words

They’d have to rework every Mesmer weapon in the game (well, every OH and 2H) not to mention a bunch of traits and utilities in order to remove phantasms and clones. They are ingrained to a huge degree into the Mesmer as a whole.

They could remove shatters easily enough and give some other triggered command related to clones, but I rather doubt they’ll remove clones altogether for that reason. Its just too much work and changes the class too much, and while they’ve said that specs are going to be like a sub-class and change up the way you play but I don’t think its going to be quite to that extent. And if I end up being wrong, then pleasant surprise I guess.

Plus, I was thinking earlier that I actually think a phantasm is the exact reason (or one of them) why Anet chose and OH weapon over a mainhand one. Mainhands don’t have phantasms, they’re all on either OH or 2H weapons. And you can’t really add one to a mainhand weapon even if you wanted to, as that would allow a single weaponset to have 3 phantasms (1 on the new MH, one on any OH, one on the 2nd weapon swap) and potentially skew balance. Considering there are entire builds based on phantasms, I think making sure they added a new one with the spec could have been something they were specifically aiming for.

As for whether they are specifically aiming to “fill out” Mesmer’s weapon with the ones our current phantasms use… I kind of doubt it, if only because of the Speargun phantasm. No class can use all 3 underwater weapon types, and I with how little attention Anet gives to underwater combat in general I kind of doubt they’ll ever add more to any class.

Besides, I think its more likely that most phantasms simply use a weapon that fits their attack. Warden essentially has Ranger’s OH Axe 5 as its attack, so it uses axes. Duelist is basically Theif’s unload, so it uses pistols just like a thief would.

Agreed, they won’t likely rip illusions out of mesmer, otherwise druids can’t be allowed to keep pets which we know they won’t take since the trailer already showed druid has pets.

If anet stripped illusions form mesmer (which is a core purpose of the concept) then rangers would lose pets as druids, and necros would lose minions as whatever their spec is and same for ele elementals. Cause if they didn’t we know the forums would be a rage pit about how it would be viewed as unfair.

But they did say they’d change mechanics, so wonder how they meant it, agreeably shatters might be changed or removed for something else. But i am kinda hoping for changeable weapon skills to add diversity there even if it would be work. Guess we have to wait and see.

I would be honest, I would love to get Iswordsman’s dodge attack on sword.

Same, but i seriously doubt it, reason would be the screaming ’IT’S OP GET RID OF IT’ posts that would follow.

Phantasms are frail as it is, one that gets evade would be harped about as being too good for moments of indestructibility. But at least its attack is considered a lepa combo finisher so it gets auras form fields it leaps through, coating it in extra powers for short times like fire = flame aura which = burns when it get hit making foes suffer worse for striking said phantasm. If this particular phantasm got evade it would also break combo potential in that way.

I’m pretty sure the shield phantasm will have taunt.

Doesn’t mean it still wont be ranged, cough guardian cough spirit bow that doesnt damage it purges conditions last i checked, no reason the shield phantom can’t be ranged and taunt.

Hopefully anet will start clearing the mist on each spec soon.

This would be nice, since some recipes are locked behind timed walls, points of history through events we can no longer acquire them, cause not all of the old event ones were tradable.

It also is uncomfortable for players who dislike juggling characters just to reach recipes they unlocked on that char i am sure, even if they master crafts on another char, those recipes are tied down to the one that learned them sadly.

Signet of the Ether Buff

Clones have more HP then phantoms, doesn’t seem right that the signet would heal more for clones when they could take more hits compared to phantoms.

Also there are builds out there that use this signet well, but proper positioning of phantoms/clones and not shattering them left and right helps, gw2 uses a lot of position matters stuff, so maybe don’t shatter so much or summon illusions where they would die so easily?

Just some friendly advice.

p.s. we don’t need another overly powerful healing signet like what the warriors got x_x;

Breach: Mordrem Husk Copper

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Galeskyring.9617

Galeskyring.9617

Yeah this is a topic that still has hate over it it seems when put into practice in game. zerg aoe’s boss but boss is A: not kept away form zerg, downing/killing mass players which staggers the damage output hard or B: the boss is kited too far from the zerg and become unable to dps him the entire fight.

These two things are far more inhibiting on the fight then focus of single/aoe combat usage but people ball and whine ‘NO AOE YOU IDIOT’ and other such rude remarks, when aoe vs single target makes no real difference.

So long as copper is poisoned and the zerg doesn’t lose players to do damage there won’t be a problem provided the players keep their damage up be it single or aoe.

I personally load up both null field and TW before the last defense event before copper so i am ready when breach opens. That way during copper i can call kitten the start and assist the zerg for heightening damage for a quick burst then drop null field on the zerg all throughout the fight.

Why null field and not feedback some might wonder? don’t call me an idiot i have reasons, those reasons being null field is an ethereal field type. Many of the zerg who shoot the boss will be using projectiles. This will cause combos to produce confusion with those attacks, increasing damage even more against copper as he is rather mindless and will easily swing attacks while holding 10 or more confusion stacks

So final verdict yes aoe is just as reliable as single target, as long as the boss is kept in range of the zerg but not to close as to cleave the zerg in half. Keep poison on him and make full use of call cd’s long and short you shouldn’t have trouble with killing him.

FPS DROP after Patch

Still having problems since the update. any one have any tips. my fps is all over the place from 6 to 60, also the screen keeps jerking when ever i walk. heres my rig

GeForce GTX 460m
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU Q740 @ 1.73GHz
6.00 GB RAM (5.93 GB usable)
1366 × 768, 120Hz
Microsoft Windows 7

Have you tried cleaning you disk, or fragmenting it, making sure everything is up to date? Not just the drivers, as doing these things seemed to help with frame rate but its still rather capped at 15-25 average fps when before the patch it was better. I have a feeling its partially broken still even though it was said to be fixed.

Ok so I had done all that already, but I just tried running a system error check just for the heck of it to see what would happen and that did the trick for me, running at 82 fps again. its good to be back!

for any one who might also want to try this go to my computer right lick your OS go to properties, click on the tools tab and click error checking. your going to also want to click scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. then just restart your computer. this can take a long time to run

Still running strong? anything I’ve found that works only works for like 1-2 log ins then reverts to being throttled frames, and its getting tiresome to slap kick and punch things to make it work only for it to fall back into that rut the next moment.

I thought of something similiar my self once. Has anyone of you played league of legends about 3 years ago? There used to be a champion called Karma that had Mantras too, and I really would like to see her mechanic for us.

It would be like this: You can have a maximum of 2 (or 3) charges and you autmaticly gain one over time. So instead of going on 30 seconds CD, you simply gain a charge ever 10 seconds, stacking up. Mantra of pain for example would gain a charge ever lets say 2-3 seconds. This would make it a great dps source for us.

Offtopic: I want an Elite Mantra that grants 1 sec distortion o.o

Not sure about the distortion but yes, would so enjoy to have an elite mantra, who knows maybe they have on in the mesmer spec for hot Mesmer only got 3 elites and people are generally demanding for time warp or complain when you use mass invis for any reason o3o a bit more elite diversity is needed and a mantra could be a fun way to do it.

You’ve missed the point of mine. You say that players need to focus on having fun instead of getting loot, but for many players the reward—i.e., the loot—is a major part of that fun, period. He based his play on doing the content that he liked with the idea that to some extent it would be rewarded with skins. This did not happen and he is, therefore, not happy. His expectations are not yours, so just telling him to have fun and play the way you recommend does not solve the issue.

Please stop trying to put words in my mouth, I know what i meant and I am sure others understood what I meant so stop trying to twist it.

Snip

Bottom line is the shinies make the game enjoyable for many a player. There’s a reason that the new path will be questing on a track to gain the new Legendaries. As to skins, that’s debatable, but having a guaranteed way to gain those items as well over time would be nice. By that I mean a way that doesn’t just involve grinding out gold day after day.

That said, people want to accept gambling with this game via BL keys bought with real money, so in the end it’s what players are willing to put up with. There’s also the fact that servers only stay up and new content only comes out with money going into the game, so as long as players see the for-real-money items as worthwhile, then that’s a choice. For in-game items, though, everyone doesn’t feel the same as you that it should just be accepted that no matter how long you do content and no matter how good you get at it you may never see a reward for it.

I think you missed my point, people shouldn’t focus so kitten just getting an epic reward, they need to enjoy themselves so they don’t grate on every little negativity.

Having fun is more important then loot, if you lose sight of that then aren’t you just treating this game like a job and somehow expect to get paid for it.

For him having fun is doing whatever he enjoys doing. You don’t get to dictate what he does or doesn’t consider fun or worth his time in the game anymore than I do. Odds are that, yes, he went overboard, but it may simply be that he’s good enough at fractals that his one fractal a day more-or-less since launch is just as smooth as many player’s daily dungeons.

He isn’t the first player to report playing since beta, rarely missing a day, and having nothing to show for it. There do need to be incentives to keep people playing, but clearly even Anet agrees that RNG shouldn’t dictate some portions of the game as they stated back in 2013 when moving to a new Legendary system was first mentioned. I don’t see why your opinion that all players should take joy from the journey—even if that journey leads to nothing—should continue to be the common denominator of MMOs.

In life, some things will never be achieved no matter how much effort is put in, but why so many MMOs have decided to in the past and now continue drive this point home in-game I don’t know. I do know that there aren’t too many D&D/Pathfinder/etc. players who find much joy in playing with a DM who intentionally sets the odds against the group. Again, why this continues to be pervasive in MMOs I’m not sure, but the new Legendary system is a step in the right direction.

As to the OP and his skins, telling him to change his playstyle and suck it up isn’t really of value from my point of view. You’re entitled to your opinion otherwise, but I’ll never see that as being where I want to come from when approaching a game. I’m Western in my MMO outlook, and thoughts of grinding and grinding away for rewards that may never come doesn’t appeal to me.

Apparently you’ve completely missed the point of my posts.

Mantra Idea?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Galeskyring.9617

Galeskyring.9617

I’ve always thought that mantra was a pretty weird utility, but I think that it should behave differently. Example: Mantra of Restoration, is a 10 second cool down for 2(3) uses, I honestly think they shouldn’t have charges, instead: they have a 30 second timer for uses, and when you use it, it’ll go on a 5-10 second CD and the recharge cool down would be twice of what it currently is… Making it a bit different makes sense to me. I see it would be kind of weird, it just would make mesmer a bit… Different in more ways than currently.

Perhaps you misunderstand the purpose of mantras?

Mantras are chants you use to prepare actions in advance, offering tactical usage, their cooldowns are fine as they are now and the stacks have inherent cd’s of their own while the chant has an independent cd that triggers when the last stack is spent.

Mantra stacks can be used basically at any time, such as knock downed or stunned, allowing for possible reaction when mobs or players inflict frustrating actions to you.

Mantras are for foresight and strategic use their cooldowns have been reworked in the past and are perfectly fine as they currently are, they are neither overpowered or underpowered as it takes judicious usage to make value of them.

From here you can pick and salvage items you do not want for the MF or sell while freely salvaging all/any blues and white sin the bag above.

2: (Craftsman’s Bag) this bag pulls crafting materials to it, allowing you to sort them away form salvageable items and recommended to be plugged in a lower slot then the uncommon fractal box.

3: (Invisible Bags/Boxes/Packs) for storing items you wish to avoiding accidentally selling. I recommend plugging them in the lowest slots possible but not lower then an oiled bag.

4:(Oiled Leather Pack) This item pulls junk items into it, extremely pleasant if plugged din your lowest bag slot and collapsed, this allows you assurance any item in your top two bags can be salvaged more easily with kits.

Salvage when you can, and if you become proficient, while running, if you plug an oiled bag in the lowest slot and collapse it then you can simply click sell junk at a merchant to purge the bag for coin while it never dirty’s your inventory view unless its full and overflows into higher bags.

Use the deposit all button to clear your bags of crafting materials.

The invisible player bug in pvp is already known and I believe there is a thread for it already. Would be nice if they fixed this soon as it hurts pvp results of matchs unrated or not due to the way it jips battle results.

I think you missed my point, people shouldn’t focus so kitten just getting an epic reward, they need to enjoy themselves so they don’t grate on every little negativity.

the thing is it should be reasonable.

If someone really ran FOTM50 900 times and only gotten 1 skin. He have good reason to complain.

I ran 38, 50 for a few month and I gotten 30 skins. If he ran FOTM50 for 3 years everyday and only gotten 1 skin, he have every reason to complain.

That being said, I honestly doubt the OP really ran FOTM50 900 times. He might mean his FOTM dialogue says 900, which is really like 225 runs and most of them low level fractal. And most of his run might be before the fractal update which was 5%. It’s now 10%.

OP should stop running fotm every day then, take a break and come back at a later date, question is are the fotm skins so highly desired by this person they justify overly grinding for them rather then taking casual time so as to not burn out on it?

He probably ran alot. But I highly doubt he actually ran fotm50 900 times. He should have averaged like 50 skins already. Since it was 5% before. It is 10% now. So if some one ran it 900 times, they should have gotten 90 skins.

My point still stands, Take a vaca from fotm, enjoy other content then come back.

Claiming its unfair to not have gotten a skin due to bad luck is no different then demanding a precusor/legendary aver two years of play without a single drop.

Let the rng powers that be do as they wish, don’t fuss for being unlucky and accept one day your time may come.
