Eles are not meant to be played as pure Glass Cannon unles you’re really really good at kiting, evading attacks.
Glassy eles are so squishy they die when enemies merely look at them. They have the lowest base HP, wears light armor, and have no inherent defensive mechanics like Blocks, Stealth, and Clones. Cantrips have lengthy cooldowns.
Just wear PVT gears or any gear with sufficient toughness and stack as many Might as you can while fighting, which is where Eles are good at (but not better than Warriors). Sigil of Battle, Fire field combos, Fire attunement swap, etc. Might stacks is where you’ll get most of your damage. Oh, and fury on auras (trait) and attunement swap (trait) will make up for your lack of Precision/Crit chance.

I only had problems with well players staff necros as the wells activate way too fast, other than that I have beaten consistently every other profession with the staff in 1 sv1, as I stated before the way to play staff is not to try to hit the enemy directly but rather force him to walk into you aoes, that’s why I can hit people with eruptio-lava font-ice spike quite easily

the thing is looking at other bunker builds their condition removal just isnt as good.
like for example look at a bunker mesmer (granted mesmers have kittening good utilitys) they have null field and the boon/condi swap on lengthy cooldowns while attunement switching and evasive arcana dodges are semi spammable.
Shatters are semi spammable too and can be traited to remove a condition.
In my opinion, the current fotm d/d ele is viewed as OP by other classes since the build specializes in survivability and defense whereas most professions are built glass-cannons. But the truth is, other professions have the capability of speccing the same fashion as this d/d ele spec and peform similarly, if not better. The problem is that most players want big numbers and when their big numbers can’t kill, they qq.

No one should ever have a problem with moa, just turn around push 5 and you are safe until it wears off. Very few mesmers that know how to play the class run with this.
And a mesmer can put on a lot of confusion to stop and elementalist but if they don’t attack confusion does 0 damage. If you wait 5 seconds or go to water all the conditions are gone and the mesmer has their burst on cool down. You can also dodge their shatters which has an extremely obvious animation. Then you attack, if you don’t burst them down before they get the cool downs up, which is where the mesmers CC helps, it will end in a draw, which is what I said happens a lot of times if there are two good players. Mesmers can not maintain large stacks of confusion, it isn’t possible and if you know how to dodge a shatter it is hard to ever get large stacks of confusion, and the little stacks a mesmer can stack can be removed easily by the d/d ele.
And you mentioned arcane theivery, that can steal a random 3 buffs and give you 3 conditions every 40 seconds. But other than might, those buffs wont help you kill any faster because the ele not having protect wont matter if you are a condition build and with might the ele can still negate the damage of confusion and shatters if you dodge. It can help a power spec, if you are lucky and steal protect but I mentioned that in my post.

I am a bit perplexed with the situation you have provided that it seems the mesmer in that fight is so bad and lame he deserves to lose in the fight rather than the ele winning indefinitely because of OPness and the mesmer can’t do anything about it.
If an ele with a stack of confusion does not attack, isn’t that in favor of the mesmer too since the ele won’t be dealing damage to the mesmer anyway? :/
If the ele decided to move into water to cleanse conditions, don’t you have any daze to at your disposal to prevent the ele from cleansing most if not all of the conditions you threw at him?
And Arcane Thievery is such a nice tool it can turn the tide of the battle when used in the right moment. The skill having 40 seconds of CD means that it is not meant to be spammed anyway knowing how powerful it can be when used right. And you didn’t mention Null Field. You can sit in the field knowing for sure the ele will lose his boons once he tried to come close and damage you since d/d eles are melee. Or Shattered Concentration trait to remove condition with shatter. Arcane Thievery isnt just your option. And don’t start arguing me about “So I have to equip specific utilities or traits just to counter one build?” Duh? Eles have evolved into the all cantrip utilities they are now because without cantrips, and not building for survivability you die in those one trick pony Bulls Charge Hundred Blades or Backstab builds. Glass Cannon eles get one shot it’s not even funny. They have no built-in survivability mechanics like stealth and/or clones.
Yeah, certain builds are required to counter other builds, and that’s good for the meta, IMO. It allows diversity in a way, rather than having homogeneous specs across all professions. The only sad thing unfortunately is other options for eles right now are so situational and limited or that this is the only build for eles right now to play competitively in the meta. They have no real options. I just wish other traits, weapons sets, and utilities of the ele gets buffed when the nerf on d/d arrives to allow for more builds to emerge.
I can go on, but I just want to point out that saying mesmer conditions builds are terrible against eles just because of the scenarios you mentioned is a weak argument. But I am not saying certain ele builds don’t need some nerfing. A certain spec of ele is far too good and becomes very OP in the hands of a good player. Any viable spec for any class can be OP in the hands of the right player, anyway.

- Unsteady Ground would be a chained skill. If you activate it the second time, the ground would blow for a blast finisher and some damage (and launching foes to all directions? xD).They could make it the functional opposite of Mesmer’s Temporal Curtain: Cripple when you pass through it, detonate it for an AoE knockback. IMO conjures are very situational. I’d rather spam away with my regular attunement skills rather than using the charges in the conjured weapons. They feel so clunky to use.
But one thing I realized is that the 0/10/0/30/30 can be very flexible and it’s a strength you might want to utilize when coming up with you build.
It can go full offensive with Air VI, Water II, IV, VI, Arcana I,V,XII or build for tanking with lots of healing/condi cleanse with Air I, Water III, V, XI, Arcana V, VI, XI. The water trait line is just so perfectly designed for this flexibility. Same goes with Arcana in a way. Most if not all options in these trees are very useful in any mix you can think of.

It has been nerfed? I truly don’t know about this, last thing i know is it being buffed to be available directly after going down.
Also, not any movement skill can escape a stomp. Thief can still be blink-stomped by guardian, thief, mesmer and ele. Mesmer can 100% escape but has to time it right so he doesn’t appear too early and must be lucky to port far enough.
It was buffed because if it hadn’t been buffed, eles will ALWAYS be a guaranteed stomp. At least it ensures that an ele will have a chance at delaying a stomp like everybody else rather than no chance at all.
Now, don’t tell me “but eles are so freakin tanky with OP healing you can’t down them instantly, blah, blah, they should be a guaranteed stomp when downed anyway, blah blah” That’s a different argument. Yea, you can never prevent vapor in downedstate. But after those 2 seconds of vapor, it’s a guaranteed stomp anyways. -_-

Eles at melee can deal serious damage with an offensive spec OR be unkillable as tank but I don’t believe eles can be so good at both that they are so entitled for a qq merit like so many people have given them lately. There are a couple of large flaws with your analysis of this “dichotomy” you’ve constructed of how damage dealing methods scenarios should play out.
Using the single target vs. AOE argument fails because of how easy it is to hybridize damage sources through weapon swap. Even the thief can easily sit on his shortbow for 90% of his gametime for providing safe highly sustained AOE damage with trick shot, and absurdly high AOE damage with short range cluster bombs along with choking gas for downed enemies and disabling shot for easy resets with damage avoidance. Saying a thief should win 1v1 encounters solely on the basis that one component of its damage dealing is single target is a mis-representation of the complex interactions between classes in team fights when viewed through the lens of 1v1 battle with no contextual value.
This is perhaps why dueling isn’t representative of game balance whatsoever. I could easily make non-standard thief builds and be one of the deadliest 1v1 classes in the game because of how powerful some of the stealth tools are but you wouldn’t be contributing adequately enough in a team fight. Burst specs, while not great in 1v1 fights, maximize their damage potential for priority and out of position targets.
Good thing you pointed out the weapon swap ability which basically allows any class to mix both single target and AOE skills depending on the weapon sets.
But I’m afraid the OP will regard your argument as irrelevant just like mine and other players posts. Based on the OP’s replies, he’s just clearly stating that mesmer shatters and d/d eles are OP and not AOE in general. The AOE versus single target damage design principle is just a veil to hide the qq.

In this case, only guilds who currently have the mission to kill the boss will be able to initiate the event to do so. At that point any player can jump in and assist. If they earn participation, they’ll be presented with the event’s rewards. The guild members who participated in that event will receive an additional reward, which should be explain in an upcoming blog post (real soon).

However, saying that other factors such as skill cooldowns and the fact that you can simply walk out of most AOEs red circles and that single target skills are generally auto-targetted and home-in like heat seeking missiles are irrelevant, will obviously win you the case. However, DPS IS NOT THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD CONSIDER IN THE DESIGN PRINCIPLE YOU ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE. Certain classes and weapon sets were designed to be AOE-centric or single-target damage focused. Certain builds and classes are weak against AOE, some are difficult to kill using single target skills because of WTF mechanics like stealth. This s a much more complicated issue than just a matter of DPS difference. I just wish Anet gets this thing right.
