If it would now go pay to play i would be angry but would still play it.
Is the game worth a sub fee? Definatelly and had that been the original intention i would have payed no questions asked.
I have to agree, ingame the community is amazing, wether it is in pvp or pve everyone seems so kitten nice its just odd when coming from another MMO
Much more relaxed here and much more fun
ANET is useless trash. I’m waiting until another company takes over GW2.
Completely agree. Im really feel like i playing a game made by amateurs, lacking features, no idea about balance, 1 pvp type mode for over 6 months called esport..LOL
GW2 itself is nice, just different company has to buy it out and clean that mess.
I were think Diablo 3 is a fail, GW2 in current state beating it.
Anet has created the best MMO with the most detailed world out there, a huge ammount of different activities, wvwvw that looks worthy of fantasy movies.
And you two say that? Pathetic being ungratefull people like you must be a real pain
I was playing one day, and forgot all about my daily.
I noticed my daily when i had 15minutes before the daily changed.
I finished the daily in 10minutes.
Whine about dailies really? They are so quick to do its just crazy to complain about….
Welcome back! Well which servers are populated you can see on server select alone, me myself im in a medium pop yet i got zero complaints about the ammount of people i find.
Also GW2 seems to have the best launch in recent memory and a great ammount of players have sticked around
Advice? Do your dailies and monthies :P those will allow you to have accended gear without much of a hassle while giving you lots of time to do your own thing and have fun! (you can do the dailies and monthies and have fun too ofc)
What they said there they delivered, there are several places in the world that if you take from your enemy wont magically be taken back, aslong as you or someone else defends it when the mobs try to take it back.
Really, really do not want to see Asian inspired mmo armours in this game.
TERA, as it is used as an example in this thread had awful armour models for female characters, and the males where so effeminate it made no difference. I genuinely do not want to see characters running around with skirts that have no back so your pants hang out.
I for one actually like the “trench coats” and armour that actually looks like it has practical value.
That’s like saying you’ve watched hentai so that makes all anime bad.
It’s also amusing to see trench coat being used in the same context as practical armor.
I’ll take this over trench coats, thanks. Yes, this is actual medium armor from an Asian game.
That armor is ugly…
Dont like it one bit… trenchcoats are better xD even though we obviously need more variety especially for medium armor in GW2.
But not that.. ugly shiny gay prince armor.
Yeah i never liked how they try to make the wvwv as ’’robotic’’ as possible, no communication of any kind with the enemy they are just ’’invaders’’ and you need to kill them.
Talking to them should be intended, not a bug.
That’s actually really covered up by mmo standards. Heck it even is by real life standards, I’ve seen girls with less clothes than that.
Now if that’s what you are actually complaining about that we need less clothes then I agreeThat’s saying something about MMOs in general, not that GW2 is better for it.
Real life standards suck. Why don’t we get searched and list items acquired before going through every Asura gate, eh? True to life, woo!
If you can’t keep your kitten in your pants and out of your head, go watch some prons. The sturdiest armor in the game shouldn’t look like kittening hooker gear. Appealing to horny teenagers < not degrading yourselves and your game.
If people want skin, keep it to town clothes. Y’know, the ones you wear when you’re not out being mauled by undead, dragons and undead dragons.
Different people have different taste, in this game you can transmute your gear so wether it looks well protected or not doesnt matter.
And appeals to horny teenagers? Yes, but to adults too :P
(i know many that do, so you really cant argue with that)
DIFFERENT TASTEGame should have both sets, please both groups instead of just one.
Many people have a taste for both.Okiedoke. Then you know who’s really missing out here? The poor male characters.
Devs, we demand justice! 50% of male armor needs to be shirtless and/or have a banana hammock. We deserve no less.
Sounds great xD
We have some pretty revealing stuff as it is :P on my warr im wearing armor so i cant see an inch of skin but there are options for a more barechested approach

Haha.
Ive got a female friend that hunts for revealing outfits like that one, but she also likes stuff that is not revealing at all.
have both styles of clothing and its all good if you ask me :P
First of all your sense of a good game seems really kittened up. Im happy im not you :P
But despite this there is plenty to grind for in this game if you want to make it a grind ;p
Maybe not fun for you but loads of fun for me.
If you treat it as ‘’I GOT TO DO THIS OMG’’ ofc its not going to be fun. If you want to do quickly you can probably google the positions of these and not waste any time.
Me on the other hand ran through these zones and enjoyed them all over again with a friend while looking for the goblets, doing events, and just taking it all in as we went.
LOADS of fun
I love the game you have created, i hated ascended gear when you introduced it and did quit, but with the addition of dailies and monthlies i’m back as i can get them now quite easy(but it takes time) and without having to do content i have no wish to do everyday and thanks to that i don’t see it as a grind anymore.
I enjoyed the new living story content, for one simple reason, it let you see it your way,! You see corpses and found heirlooms, there wasn’t alot of dialog to tell you a story. Instead it is just what you see and let your mind do the rest, i found this more effective than the personal story in which i didn’t really like the goofy tone nor dialog.
I love the combat, it feels very organic and fluid, little things add to it like if you are slowed your charge wont reach as far. Stuff like that just adds to it greatly.
I like how you have created a world that is full of detail, beautiful, and very vast. I haven’t played a MMO with a base world as rich as this before(other MMOs that have huge worlds tend to leave them pretty dead boring and they repeat themselfs ALOT) Its amazing to see the smallest details like grass moving when a projectile goes through or even if its really windy
I like WvWvW as i do PvE and exploring the only way i can see anyone being bored here is if they lack imagination and try to follow the path of other traditional MMOs.
And i also liked the halloween jump puzzle alot and would like to thank the guy/guys who made that ^^ and pity that you got so much kitten people shouting about it.
The only real complaint i do have is the personal story and dialog ingame overall(even what your own character says in combat is silly most of the time), beating bosses and doing the storyline would be alot better if the enemy was actually intimidating, that has to show in both your enemy and your own side. I’m not a fan of the setting(i like grimdark fantasy settings) but i don’t see why you cant have a serious story and well written dialog despite this.
I feel like i have been praising too much now, so i will go ingame and curse at every mob i see for no reason whatsoever.
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
I love the game
I cant find any major problems to complain about, the content is endless and very much fun to repeat.
I would like the story to be more serious and well written but then again i would also prefer a grim dark setting with little magic to speak off, but i can appreciate this masterpiece for what it is
I felt like a hero when i acted as a bodyguard to my friend in WvWvW jump puzzle(im warrior and shes a thief), she just ran through while i killed two thiefs at once(one of them panicked at low hp and jumped to his death xD).
A warrior after that and another thief, i thought the last thief escaped when she entered the circle of stealth(cant remember name) i kept hammering the spot but it is only after what seemed like a lifetime she pops out of stealth while trying to heal herself on the ground. I finished her off.
Im not very good at pvp on my warrior yet, but i was very happy with myself during this sequence and felt like a ’’hero’’ :p
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
Only reason I switched from Norn to Human was because the animation of sword attacks from Norn compared to Human was Horrendous. If your not gonna use Sword, then I would Say Norn/Char
I first played a human warrior but the animations lacked any real power so i tried norn and was pleased…with the sword in particular
I guess our tastes differ here :P So my advice is go for norn and forget the wimpy human animations xD
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
I dont think the main char being the sidekick is the problem, guys really, there are thousands of players doing the personal storyline and we all expect it to be all about us?
I always found the idea of that kinda weird, same in SWTOR XD
The problem is how poorly the characters we deal with are written, if traherneatree was actually a very intresting character with good dialog and did great things, i wouldnt mind it at all, it would be great to be able to play alongside a character that would be a legend in times to come.
Buuut that is just the case and that is why it sucks :P
Captain Tervelan: Of course you’re still alive. Should’ve known a few centaurs couldn’t kill the “Hero of Shaemoor.” They’re your specialty, after all, right?
<Character>: I know what happened to Falcon Company, Tervelan. How could you give them up to the centaurs? How could you betray their trust like that?
Captain Tervelan: I didn’t want to do it. My soldiers were starving, our equipment was ruined…I had to do something or the centaurs would have killed us all.
Captain Tervelan: So, yeah, I sold out Falcon Company so that some politician could say the queen was a bad ruler. But the rest of my command lived.
Captain Tervelan: I got funds to reequip my soldiers, munitions, decent rations, and a promotion. My command’s killed more centaurs than the rest of the Seraph combined—thanks to Falcon Company’s sacrifice.
<Character>: And all it cost was one company of your fellow soldiers. You’re not an officer, you’re a greedy, lowlife thug. And you’ll pay for what you’ve done.
Captain Tervelan: You and Bigsby… If you hadn’t dug so deep, you both could’ve done a lot to help us. All of us. But now you’ll just be ettin food. Bigsby may be already.
Captain Tervelan: This gate should hold you all in. I’m sorry it came to this. Good-bye, “Hero.” When you meet her, tell your sister I said hello.
I’m sure this is very goofy and not at all serious
What actually happens in that is pretty serious but the way it is told (dialog and voice acting) makes it into a funny little scene you cant take seriously :P
Glad to see you are enjoying the game i am loving it too to no end, it is pretty insane to me that some people said this game would flop harder than SWTOR if it wasnt f2p when this game has a thousand times better content, a world that is huge and alive, a better combat system, and a game that generally is a product of love
Its insane
both the spykits are now broken underwater, double-clicking them consumes a charge but gives nothing. Come on anet…. as if nerfing them isn’t enough.
Removing them would be even better :P
To b e honest, if I want to play a good story I will load up Skyrim. I play the MMORPG for the MMO part
What, a good story in Skyrim?!?
Ok….
Sorry that was just too funny :P
For me on the other hand it is addictive xD especially after playing a kittentier MMO for so long…
This is the first MMO where im excited to just kill mobs and see what i get (modly bags i love you too)
New goals everyday is great, so you dont just repeat the same stuff over and over, they are NOT annoying to me at all, thanks devs
I actually havent gotten as far as orr in personal story so i cant say how serious or how the dialog is there, as i just couldnt be bothered after how bad the writing and hilarious the story is overall at the beginning, but ill try to go forward
The horrible dialog reaches everywhere, even what about every character keeps repeating in this game ‘’Fight what cannot be fought ’’ ‘’know what cannot be known’’
…………………wtf?Only Whispers agents use that kind of language. So, while they’re in a lot of places they’re not . . . everywhere.
Hehe ok, maybe not quite everywhere
Yeah i agree, i love the game but the story is laughable, the dialog being the biggest issue with it :P The dialog is just…. uhhh… why did you say that… that is so… akward…
:D
Sure it can be funny, but funny is not what i look for in a compelling fantasy story :P (there can be humour ofc, but there is nothing but that in gw2)
The horrible dialog reaches everywhere, even what about every character keeps repeating in this game ‘’Fight what cannot be fought ’’ ‘’know what cannot be known’’
…………………wtf?
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
look at it this way, if anyone can creat a 1 man guild and do guild event anytime they want and be rewarded greatly for it, it will surely result in abuse.
and seriously 2 hours of farming each member is all you need. I dont’ understand all the whinning and crying.
My guild members have jobs and families and IRL responsibilities.
I get to play 1 hour a night max. I don’t want to spend that mindlessly grinding. I’d like to spend it playing my personal story, or exploring, or doing jumping puzzles, or anything in the game besides grinding the same twenty mobs in the same sixty-yard area in hopes of getting something rare.
I dont like grind myself, but you are being very strange here.
You say you have no interest in competitive play as you only play for 1hour a day. And then only want to do very casual content that doesnt reguire you to have amazing gear.
And you somehow are forced to get this gear?`Your options for fun are still there, why would you grind if what you do ingame doesnt require you to have this gear!?!
I loved GW2, i loved leveling, i loved the endgame content, WvW, easy to get exotics, jump puzzles, exploration, dungeons when i wanted to.
kittening perfect really, and then the ascended gear comes in.. man was i surprised at that, i thought this game was supposed to not go down that path…
I got my ascended backpiece a few days ago, but the game stopped being fun, and my closest friend felt the same and quit, and so did i now.
I dont want to do a dungeon because i need to in order to get my gear, or farm countless hours to get the gold for mats, i want to do dungeons or even farm when i want to for rewards im in no hurry to get, like better looks as it was supposed to be.
Soo my time is at an end, i quit and so do the few friends i played with, but i will be checking patchnotes and forums to see if changes are made to the new stupid grind.
Thats whats causing me not to play GW2
No for better stats, yay for new gear.
Having played numerous MMO’s I eventually identified the one characteristic which drove me away from all of them. The gear treadmill. A gear treadmill is a linear design concept where every time new content is released, new gear is added with higher stats, effectively making all previous acquired gear obsolete (As well as your previous time & effort).
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.
As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content."
Perhaps I am misinterpreting your meaning but what I am reading as a customer is:
“We are going to continue to add better gear with addition of every content update rendering your previous gear void & oh yeah, your friends who haven’t logged on in a few months they will no longer be able to do content with you because they are not ascended.”
Now if I am not mistaken in GW2’s mission statement/manifesto was it not stated that GW2 would “NOT” be a gear treadmill based MMO?
There is no other way to make a MMO other than using the treadmill. Theres no progression without a treadmill… How do you guys not see that, how can sitting in the same gear since you turned level 80, and downing bosses that don’t vary in toughness be fun!?
WVW and , bosses CAN be tougher, and they can be fun, you just need to counter them with skill instead of stats
I’m happy about this patch! I even hope they do add full progression raiding someday! You can’t keep people interested on cosmetic gains only and I think they finally realized that. It’s going to be nice to have a reason to login again.
I will be the mean one to point out that hardcore raiders are an group that barely would leave a dent on any game’s balance sheet if they’d all quit – we’re talking about a 5%-15% part of the population here.
In terms of size of playerbase, GW1 was the second-most successful western MMO after WoW – and it kept a very loyal fanbase around for many years without any silly gear progression game and just cosmetics. That proves your statement wrong right there.
Conversely, almost all newer MMOs having a traditional gear treadmill failed miserably on market after a few months and the raiding-focus chasing away all non-raiders (cough SWTOR).
A modern MMO can easily exist without the raiders as customers, but I am sorry to say that these days you can’t fund a MMO without the 85+% that do NOT raid. And in 2012, the non-raiders seem to be just as trigger happy with the “uninstall” button if their needs aren’t met by a game. Which is a good thing. shrug
Interesting post. You do know WoW has gear progression AND the most players right now, right?
Yes, but GW2 wont beat wow by trying to to do the same, there already is a wow out there, why would anyone play anything but the king of that? GW2 cant compete in progression with something thats been out for so long , most of the people who want gear grind have already left, all this patch will do is make the people who love GW2 for what it is leave aswell.
Im probably done with this game if the stats are better, i love gw2 the way it is and ive had fun every step of the way, better stats would suck one of the main reasons im having fun away. Why Arenanet, why did you give into the wow kid cries?
I have been playing since release and still enjoying this game to no end, hopelessly addicted.
And cant kill two people alone no matter your skill? What? Are you overestimating yourself or what? Just because you cant doesnt mean i cant or other people cant, quite the opposite infact
…for allowing us to buy without warning us. For those of you who played beta, where were you the first two weeks after launch, when all you saw spewing on these forums was sunshine and rainbows. Where were the “lack of progression” posts then, or the “Orr is a heaping pile.”
Granted, the DR came out after launch, not during beta, so we couldn’t get fair warning about that. But the “lack of reward for PvP”, the “boredom of DE”, the “bugs and the unbalanced mess” that you guys are detailing now….what, there were no bugs in beta? No progression-less feeling while you were testing?
Personally, I think this game is crumbling quickly, from what I’ve experienced, from the ghost-town my server is becoming (full is just a word. Without the stat behind it, its meaningless. I can flip a server flag to say full as well). My apology request is just an absurdity. I’m not really looking for one. What I do mean is I think its important that we as players start to vent our frustrations more during beta, so the public can make a better informed decision.
- We need to show these developers we are not putting up with bug-ridden, passionless mediocrity.
- We need to show them by no longer pre-ordering. This pre-ordering has given publishers freedom to churn out whatever they want in whatever state. What does it matter when you’ve already sold a million copies.
- We need to show them by expressing how if certain systems are not fixed by launch, we won’t be purchasing.
- We need to help them understand that if they want a successful mmo with a large community, they need to stop making games just to their satisfaction. You need to satisfy your fans in order to keep them.
I think we just need to express our dissatisfaction earlier, because then we as consumers have more power over the situation. After the fact, when they already have our $, its much harder to get our voice heard.
There is no we, i love the game, and every single person i know does too.
The core idea of this game is that your skill is what matters… not your gear.
Thats funny. Skill. Hmmm…I’ll start this video about there. . .about skill. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk-8Iph0PdU&feature=player_detailpage#t=253s
Holy…
I couldnt watch that video till end.. that guy is so stupid it just hurts to listen to him..
Thief lv80
Happyness level 10/10
ofcourse there athings to improve, but im as about as happy as it gets anyway
I dont have many complaints with this game, im a very happy customer, but what would make me even happier (and some others im sure)
1First person view.. to enjoy the great scenery this game has, and to take better screenshots
2WvWvW the option to have server colors on names instead of the armor color, this would in my opinion add some flavor/personality to those you fight against (and maybe start regonising some of your opponents by their color scemes)
3able to show names in WvWvW would be great aswell… : P
4more emotes that are not so over the top as the ones inplace now are.. i mean.. more subtle emotes you know.. how they really are, instead of crying like its the end of your life or laughing to the point you cant breathe, more subtle emotes!
One of the more complex i suppose would be that everytime you activate an ability your character wont automatically turn towards your opponent, this would add some more ’’skill’’ to the current system, but im not holding my breath over this one atm
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
there are no raids or competitive pve, why u want gear??
1 for WvWvW
2 to look good
3 For dungeons i suppose? : o
It is a problem with peoples attitudes/way of playing, not with the game itself.
Something is fun you do it..
That is why you do it.. not because its the fastest way to get to some goal.. or because agame tells you to do that -.-
Why play for anything but fun.
There is a point.
Having FUN.
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
Im pretty casual when it comes to gaming atm and im halfway to getting a full set within 2days..
omg what a grind.
Seriously, there is no such thing as a huge grind in gw2 atm.
GW2 is by far the easiest MMO to get top notch gear in, i really dont get how anyone can whine about this, and i bet 99% of the whiners could probably get the gear in the time they use to write these huge walls of text.
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
Orr is great its the one and only place in gw2 atm that i find to be truly menacing, everything else about this game is a fairytale, but that place actually wakes you up from that fairytale a bit
@Corian They do cycle, i guess i just been lucky or just having too much fun and didnt notice the sudden changes in time though
I was always 10+ levels above my zones..
I think you just didnt do enought in the zones before moving on, and i didnt go to any other racial zones either, just sticked to my own.
I havent seen anything strange yet, are you guys sure its not because of overflow?
Overflow has different time than your server, so when you go to overflow chances are itl go from day to night. Ect.
WvWvW(if you like chaos/what the **** moments/killing the odds/zerging)
Spvp(if you want fair pvp)
World exloration in this game is more like a single player than MMO, which is amazing, the beautifull places to see never end, and the game actually rewards you for it!
Better looking gear
Dungeons that are actually hard to beat!
And the little things like dyes, and materials to gather in order to discuover some new recipy I have no idea how to be bored in this game, its impossible :S
Age Of Conan
The only MMO to have kept me playing more than a single month, looks like GW2 will be the second MMO to do that :>
