Some people like for achievements to prove that you’ve achieved something.
Which is more or less the definition of e-kitten stroking.
Do I insult you for how you choose to play the game?
What’s the point of having a leaderboard if it’s meaningless? And if you think it is meaningless regardless of what they do to it- why are you here? Technically you don’t have an opinion, so why fill the air with your nonsense?
I did not say it was meaningless. I said it don’t effect the game though. And it doesn’t. The only thing it does is helping those kind of people that like stroking their e-kittenes stroking them. Most of us will most likely not even care about the leaderboard, but some probably will, and I am happy for them.
If they feel the need to be on the top in a game then good for them. I never understood that myself though.
Some people like for achievements to prove that you’ve achieved something.
I completely agree. The thing is though, forcing as many people to log in daily is the most profitable route they can take. Yeah it cheapens achievements for the players, but do you really think that’s their main concern with APs?
Internally we pronounce it “See-ya-moth”, and since washingtonians speak perfect english as we remind our british design director Chris Whiteside daily, that’s clearly the only correct way to say it, so there ya go.
Speaking as a California transplant, I have two counter arguments:
1) It is called soda, not pop.
2) Bag and beg do not sound the same.Nice try, though.
Actually it’s called Coke. Every regular soda is called coke in Georgia for obvious reasons
lol. I also live in Georgia and up until about 20 or so, I still called every type of soda “Coke”. I use the term soda now, but it’s funny how common that is here.
GW2 is like a good girlfriend who gives you space when you need it. WoW is like the bad ex who’s always keeping tabs on where you are. Just like good girlfriends are hard to find, GW2 is a rare gem in the MMO market. For all its flaws, it’s the best MMO on the market, just like the small imperfection that makes a girl interesting.
Unless you are trying to get ascended gear. Then she checks up on you every single day.
Also, that good girlfriend makes you roll a couple die to see if you get a good night kiss. Get 6-6 or get no kiss.
RNG in GW2 is more forgiving than any other MMO out there. What are your chances to get the exact piece of gear you need after a raid on WoW for example?
Plus now imagine you didn’t have to roll. Everyone got everything. What would happen to the market?
-Imagine a job where someone got paid a wage that they expected and were informed of before doing the work.
-Imagine a product that people could buy that had a price tag with the exact cost to purchase it listed.
What would the world be like with such crazy stipulations?
Unless you are trying to get ascended gear. Then she checks up on you every single day.
Also, that good girlfriend makes you roll a couple die to see if you get a good night kiss. Get 6-6 or get no kiss.
Dude, u dont have nerd cred. You should have said roll 20 on d20.
Then it wouldn’t have been so catchy and rhymey.

Oh, there has been some confusion because of the data miners who are mixing up weapons/items you get IN the SAB, and weapon skins you can use in Tyria. The fire sword is only IN the SAB, as are the chain sticks, monkey nail bat, etc. It’s should be pretty easy to tell the difference. But the SAB Fire Sword is the one that I can see why it would cause some confusion.
And yes, you can save your baubles for future releases.

I will say the same thing that I always say when these threads pop up. There’s this thing that comes with the game called the EULA. You click on it and agree to its terms when you first run the game.
According to that EULA, you agree not to exploit. And, you agree that your account can be terminated/banned at any time without notice for violation of the rules. That is your warning. It was given when you read the EULA (you read it, right?)
You can moan about it all you want, but you agreed to those terms. It’s a done deal. Don’t exploit.
I don’t think you’ve read this thread.
I completely with the OP. Not telling citizens the law and then punishing them based off of these mysterious hidden rules is inherently unfair. Just saying “Don’t commit crimes!” doesn’t count. What exactly are the crimes I shouldn’t commit?
Except that’s how the law works in real life. If you aren’t a lawyer you don’t necessarily know the law, and you can get caught out. And ignorance of the law is no excuse. It happens all the time.
No, that’s not how the law works. Laws are written down. They are official and what can and can’t be done is available for anyone who is interested to see. The OP is asking for that exact type of clarity with in-game exploits. This isn’t about pleading innocence, it’s about not even being able to know.
Laws are written down and subject to constant ammendment and annotation. No laymen can expect to follow, know or understand law. It’s just not possible. That’s why lawyers can charge so much money.
Recently in a case in Australia, someone who used to get workers comp for an injury sustained on the job, suddenly stopped getting paid because of a reinterpretation of an existing law. The law hadn’t changed at all but a new ruling based on that law was handed down by a judge that changed how the law was perceived.
So even though the government agency admitted the person was injured at work and remained injured, they could get out of paying, since the way the decision was worded, if a person is denied a benefit, transfer or promotion they are simply not eligble for that type of compensation. The name of the case was Hart vs. Comcare, if you care to look it up.
The person who stopped being paid (it was a bunch of people actually but I know only one person it happened to personally) had to go to court and fight for their right to compensation. The problem is there were too many legal issues, too many loopholes, too many issues for that person to understand by themselves.
The law is written down. Have you ever looked at or read it? Do you even have that kind of time? For all practical purposes, the law is obscure except in the most commonly held notions. Things like murder and stealing are bad. Assault is bad. But what constitutes crimes in one state can be completely different when you’re in another state, never mind how they vary from country to country.
Anyone who says the law is clear because it’s written down doesn’t know much about law.
There is no GW2 exploit lawyer to go to because they aren’t documented.
Also for your example to work here the people would have to have their money taken away that they’ve been paid already and then be sent to jail for life.

In other words, players have been warned. It isnt hard to understand what is and isnt an exploit – and to understand the negative impact those exploits can have on the game and population as a whole.
Often it isn’t obvious or easy to understand as the end user. Which is the entire point of the thread. It’s not the players role to understand and avoid negative impacts on the game. It’s the developers. And if they feel something does that, they need to tell us so we know not to do it.

I never post my wealth statistics because I always have a suspicion that these threads are created as a means of identifying targets for hacking.
Are you implying you have lots of wealth? You’ve just been targeted by someone now, lol. Cover blown!
I am an American that plays on an EU server. I have absolutely no problem with lag more than anyone else. I only notice lag if others (Europeans) also have lag for some reason, meaning it’s the game not my connection.
Again with CoF. If it wasn’t the fastest, another one would be? Would that other one be an exploit? What if that other one wasn’t the fastest, but a different one was? Would that one be an exploit? Being the fastest way of doing something doesn’t automatically make it an exploit. If it was a DRASTIC difference, it would be. If every other dungeon took two hours, but CoF took a few minutes, that would be a problem, but that isn’t the case. There are quite a few dungeons that can be completed in a reasonable amount of time.
Being the best way of doing something doesn’t make it an exploit. When it’s an exploit, it’s pretty obvious. Just like all the things you listed.
Yes. On the TP you can make money by flipping. That’s taking advantage of other players being foolish. It’s not taking advantage of the company or a mistake the company made in pricing something. The problem with the snowflakes is that it was directly related to a recipe being incorrect in the way it functioned.
As for the other two, you’re absolutely right. I don’t know the numbers related. But clearly you do. Please, post the karma requirements for every item in the game that’s relevant, as well as the prices these items were originally listed for.
A big issue that you keep dancing around is this.
If you see something is too good to be true and buy 1000 of them it’s clear you’re trying to exploit.
Why do you need 1000 order items? You’re exploiting. Plain and simple. If you bought one, because you wanted one. Or even a few for each of your characters, that’s cool. But 1000? Really? You actually think you’re justified, or that it might be confused with not being an exploit?
Idk if running that other dungeon would be an exploit. They won’t tell me, which is the entire point. CoF can be run in 5 minutes. Other dungeons and paths can take more than an hour. Arah has taken me 3 hours before. That’s VERY drastically different.
It’s not my job to know the value of every karma item in the game. It’s theirs. That’s more part of the point. THEY know what they want the game to be like, not me. I am the end user. They give me a product and I use it. They give me a rule and I follow it. I should not be held responsible for their poor designs or decisions. And if they made a mistake, tell me not to do it and I won’t. It’s literally as simple as that.
I’ve bought tens of thousands of items off the TP. Have I used that many? Ofc not. I was trying to make money to buy other, very expensive things. That’s how stuff works. You find ways to make money and use that money to buy things you want. I have bought several hundreds of salvage kits since playing. Am I exploiting the merchant? I am going for the thirst slayer achievement. Vendors have different alcohol options and some give much better return on points for their price than others. Am I exploiting for buying the most efficient? How could I possibly know?
(edited by Geikamir.6329)
Fyrebrand is spot on.
Video games still have a bad connotation even though they are a far cheaper hobby than the majority of them out there. Paying $60 and getting hundreds or even thousands of hours of entertainment out of it is incredible.
A game like an MMO is actually more social than people make it out to be. Just because someone doesn’t live in my city doesn’t mean we aren’t having real social interactions. This is spending time with friends.
People still don’t know if buying green karma weapons and mystic forging them for profit is bannable or not. They don’t say one way or another. Maybe there will be a ban wave for that soon too. There is literally no way to know.
The answer is no. You will not be banned for it.
Enjoy the mystic forge.
*In case you want my math, here you go…
Mystic Forge = Used To Combine Stuff To Make Better Stuff
Karma = Used To Buy Cool Stuff To Reward You For Doing Other StuffYou take karma and spend it to buy gear. You take gear and turn it into other gear. Take that gear and turn it into money. Sounds legit. If you turned that gear into more karma than you started with, that would be an exploit for sure.
You know what might be an exploit? Buying Orian boxes and using max karma boost while eating the karma out of it. I’ve heard some people came out with more karma than they started with (plus money). So if that’s consistant, I could see issues. Doesn’t sound consistant, so it’s likely not an issue. But if I had to pick something based on karma, that would be it.
Making Godskull weapons and putting them in the forge was previously an exploit. You put them in and there was a chance to get an exotic out of it. Did you know that?
Buying karma ingredients for cooking, making then selling those items was an exploit. Did you know that?
Buying salvage kits for karma from merchants was an exploit, too.
There are probably hundreds of other examples that weren’t as publicized that existed too. Any threads brought up get deleted. The post that was linked earlier in this thread is a good example. What did that guy do to get banned? What if there are other players doing it? How am I supposed to know if I’m doing it?
snip
Buying 10 snowflakes and salvaging them didn’t get people banned, but salvaging hundreds did.
Buying 10 karma weapons for lower than they wanted you to didn’t get people banned, buying hundreds did.
Buying 10 order weapons for lower than they wanted you to didn’t get people banned, buying hundreds did.
Repeating the mystery exploits DOES get people banned. My example works perfectly because of this. This was content that they put in the game, just like CoF. Doing it too much…. ban worthy?
Oh. I didn’t realize that CoF gives more tokens than the other dungeons. Or is it more coins? Or is it more XP? None of the above? Right. It just takes less time.
The snowflakes gave infinitely repeatable money without using/abusing the trading post. Just like all the other crafting recipes right? No? Oh.
Those karma weapons were priced on a scale comparable to all of the other karma content right? No? Oh.
Those order weapons were priced on a scale comparable to all of the other karma content right? No? Oh.
You’re right. Your example works perfectly as an example for how little sense most of the examples are in this thread. That was what you meant when you said “your example works perfectly” right?
Sorry. I’m frustrated now.
CoF can be completed faster and easier. So yes, it gives more tokens than and money than other dungeons per hour. Mostly likely bugged that players are exploiting.
Snowflakes giving limitless wealth? Flipping items on the AH provides limitless wealth, too. Exploit?
According to which karma items you are referring to. There are loads of other karma items in the game for a lower price than that. There are even different tiers of cultural items.
The order items weren’t for karma, and YES they were on scale with each other. They were ALL at the same value. People asked if it was an exploit to buy them, no response for weeks. Then the perma-bans started raining down.
The examples aren’t making sense because you likely don’t understand them.

There you go.
Doesn’t get more spartan
While I like your look, I don’t think Spartans would have worn so much plate. And the butt skirt doesn’t looks very Spartan-like either. A loose cape on the shoulders would make more sense. Also, the sword is too fantasy themed. They would have more likely wielded something like the AC sword (when not glowing, ofc).
Durian, I think asking if something is an exploit is ok, as long as you don’t open a discussion about it in the forums. By doing so, it turns into advertising.
Geotherma saved me time by quoting the rules. Thanks mate. Those general outlines help a lot. It’s sad that some people need to have their hands held, and individual situations explained one by one.
Anet Devs have said numerous times that if you come across something that seems like an exploit, STOP doing it, and use the report function in game.
Farming CoF seems like an exploit, because you make more than any other farming in the game. Should everyone stop that?
Heavy Lulz at people thinking OP is endorsing theft.
In the UK at least, if something’s malfunctioned, or not working as intended and gives you more than it should have, it’s in the companies best interest to fix it, and customers don’t, blame is placed on them. Same goes for mis-labeled items in shops. If you see it mis-labeled at £9.00 instead of £90.00, you get that item for that £9.00 until someone goes and fixes that label.
What you say to do with pricing is true as you can’t sell things above the price that’s advertised however if you were to withdraw £20 from a cash machine and it gave you 100 by mistake you are liable.
What about if you go and buy a stuffed animal for $1. You think “Hey, this is a really nice stuffed animal, I bet people would actually pay more for it if I resold it.” You buy 1000 of them, put a bow on their head, and resell at a higher price. Then you get a subpoena to court saying you are being sued because they meant to put the price at $10. This would never hold up. That’s basically how flipping houses works.
Where do you get the idea you can’t ask if something is an exploit? File a support ticket.
They don’t respond to you whether it’s an exploit or not.

This is a pointless thread. Y..?
I have item A
B gold in bank
My mats worth CMy wealth is ABC… So..? Just play n enjoy the game. I can understand ppl getting worry abt money in RL, but even in a game, u start to worry abt money…
I’m not sure how your example relates to your point.
It’s unfortunate.
I wanted to take Guild Wars 2 seriously and be immersed in a world where things mattered. Teddy bear back packs, ginger bread swords and 8bit super Mario worlds feel so out of place and disjointed that it looks like they have developers making content for Guild Wars 2 who have never seen Guild Wars 2.
GW2 is horrible for immersion players, but wasn’t that clear at launch already?
I’m an immersion player and Guild Wars 2 isn’t horrible for me. That said, it’s never going to be as immersive as a single player game. But as MMOs go, I’ve yet to find what that is more immersive.
Well they’ve done almost anything they could muster from almost any genre you could name. What could break your immersion at this point if you haven’t experienced any yet?
How many times do you pull your wives away from the middle of their favorite tv show to throw a football around or build a tree house together? Probably not too often. While I can agree with the general sentiment of the OP, some of you guys just sound whipped.
Makes you wonder what their armor artist/creators have been cooking? They haven’t fed you any of that cuisine since you started working there and you’ve been pretty starved for some new flavors. Non-trenchcoat and less dress/butt-skirty flavors, to be exact.
If I’m not mistaken, Warrior’s have some of the worst healing stat scaling. Then again that is from BWE’s that Vorsaken crunched the numbers on it all. Could be better now.
So you think not being stagnant means including what every other MMO has in them already? Interesting, tell me more.
These are better than the normal ones. Except Asura, that one is really fitting.
What if this was an option for a back slot item in later releases of the Super Adventure Box?
http://i.imgur.com/WKHB9Gw.png
I would buy that so fast.
Let’s be honest here for a second. How much money can the average highschool kid and early college goer really spend on a videogame? Especially when they can just grind out the stuff themselves for ‘free’?
So who do you think spends the most money on games like this? Cosmetics and time-savers? Guess.
On demographics:
25 years ago my manager (in R&D) sent his entire staff to a class on making good choices, customer focused choices, in product features. Called QFD, it was the method Toyota et al had just used to competitively flatten GM, Ford, etc.
The class opened with the instructor taking a poll: “How many of you like thin crust pizza? How many of you like deep dish (Chicago) pizza? Now how many of you would like something halfway between the two?”
ArenaNet has a lot of different constituencies (some folks call them demographics, but i think this is more about what people like than how old they are) to keep track of, much less please, and (thankfully) does not have the politician’s skill of telling each constituency what they want to hear.
So part of what we’re seeing here is that every time ArenaNet releases something for group A, groups B, C, D, E, F, and G see this as a message they’re not wanted. It’s not. It’s just a lack of sophistication in the way ArenaNet communicates to its various constituencies.
But the other part of what we’re seeing is that ArenaNet doesn’t seem to have decided what constituencies not to serve, and which they want to serve extraordinarily well. So we’re getting a lot of pizza that is halfway between Chicago and New York, which people may eat, but no one really likes it. What a waste of R&D resources!
Oh, and I was in college at the peak of the arcade games in the late 1970s, and never particularly cared for them. It’s not an age demographic.
Wait, isn’t hand-tossed (medium crust) the most common and popular option?
I agree with what you have said, but I think your analogy is off. That’s all
(edited by Geikamir.6329)
@Akkarrin
Large scale fights can be fun occasionally, but trying to sell them as skillful is misleading by a long shot. The chance of victory goes up exponentially based on the size of your group vs theirs. And skill usage requires almost zero planning or fore-thought. You just spam your AoEs at the group and try not to die.
The only person in a blob that has to do anything more than just facerolling on the keyboard is the Commander trying to out flank the enemy.
Honestly, I think [YOLO] is exactly what we need to get an edge. We didn’t have any super huge guilds before really. I can already see moral improving across the whole server.
I gotta ask: AG when you guys took Bay from us (Gandara) and we took it back before the tick, why did you let us do it again before the next tick? You didn’t push us off the outer walls or destroy our siege…. either time.
I honestly don’t understand what happened, but it was pretty hilarious.
The funniest thing is that we still do not have any comments on this issue by Anet. I finished my monthly sPvP in the beginning of March (like any other regular pvp player, got no laurels of course) and today I helped some guildmates to do the same, only for those 16 achievement points. And guess what…they all got their 10 sPvP laurels (on top of their 10 from monthly PvE), as a bonus reward for being non active pvp players. On the other hand, if you are proactive, you get nothing. Anet, this is so lame and unfair. Fix it, asap.
They usually don’t respond to situations like this for a while, if at all. They try and wait until people have forgot about it and calmed down then say something like “Nothing we can do about. Enjoy your free stuff, lucky ones.”
If you like gear treadmills every other MMO has what you need. If a person doesn’t like gear treadmills where else can they go?
Quit trying to taint the whole world with your garbage, please.

Open world PvP in PvE zones serves no purpose other than trolling. And it’s only fun for the trolls.
Sorcerer, with hearts don’t you typically have to collect X or kill X?
Dynamic events are greats, hearts are just reskinned quests.
But for me, what keeps me playing GW2 is definitely the active combat and no trinity. It’s the saving grace of this game, imo.
I rather like the halloween ghost – the one that looks like a sheet with the eye-holes. I usually have him following me around.
This is also one of my favorites. Though I like the Storm Imp and Oakheart quite a bit as well. And on my Ele it’s nice to bring the Air Elemental around with the two glyphs and tonic and become an army of electric scorpions.
Two of the most vocal and welcoming developers I’ve ever seen both leaving at once?? What kind of mess is this? Sad times
Will you guys not be responding to us on the forums now that you guys have a top secret project?

Shout out to [Dius], thx for opening for our small grp AG Hills. Strange u didnt came to fight us when u saw organized guild grp with less numbers than you, do you fight only PU zergs? Anyway we got the Hills so thx.
I’m not sure when you are referring to, but I’m sure it was out of pity.
I kid, I kid!
But for real, we have no qualms about fighting or wiping, especially in small group play. So I would assume we got called to help elsewhere or something. Was this during primetime?
Here’s a quick and dirty mock-up to show what I mean:
Personally I’d like that shaft on my scythe skin.
If it wasn’t for the horrible skill lag, most people wouldn’t care so much.
Some of those 3-server mega fights at Hills or Bay have been been pretty intense. Fun but frustrating. It’s like one of those dreams where no matter how hard you try you just can’t do anything productive.
Nope, permanent
Just make race change let you re-select creation options and resets your personal story. Cultural armor has a merchant value the same price you paid.
Problem solved.
Just start a new character of the desired race.
Problem solved.
Name changes and things like hair are fair enough, but changing your race and/or gender is ridiculously stupid.
Karma, skill points, world completion, soulbound items (including ascended gear and legendaries), fractal levels, WvW xp, etc.
There are so many things that your solution doesn’t account for. Just because you don’t want it doesn’t make it stupid. How would it even affect you if someone else wanted it?
Legendaries as a whole are very lackluster. The underwater weapons are much nicer than the land ones (especially the spear) but since they require the same amount of mats and you are underwater for a fraction of the time… just doesn’t feel worth it.
And yes, staff is definitely very polarizing. You either love it or hate it and not much inbetween.
I agree on all parts. It’s the only light armor that the whole set looks good. However I do prefer pants over a coat, so I eventually transmuted them to one of the only pants options in the game. Really hoping for more soon.
Just make race change let you re-select creation options and resets your personal story. Cultural armor has a merchant value the same price you paid.

The minority of people are ‘skilled’ at any given task. By designing for the majority you increase your potential profit margins. Great for business, bad for innovation.
