Bring back SOLOQ anet

I wish I could just opt in to wait longer in order to get an actual solo que’d team.

What about duo queue? LoL has it together with solo queue.

With 2 it’d be ok. It’s the most that should be able to join together, for sure.

Hotjoin players joining the winning team

Solution: You can’t join the winning team unless they are down a man. Once you join a team you can’t join the other for the remainder if the match. And joining a losing team grants bonus experience if you finish the match and even more if you helped them win (like double).

@ Ron (quotes have gotten a bit long and I’m on mobile)

The amount of effort you are describing just to deal with one other player is immense. It’s very unprofitable to even fight a turret Engie. It takes too many resources. And if your team devotes that many resources then they are going to get back capped and ran over in other fights around the map.

The only way to prevent that sort of uneven trade is to have your own turret engie. And when that’s the best solution, there’s a problem.

You just described hot join perfectly. That’s literally what’s it’s there for (well, one of the reason).

For people that want fair and competitive solo queue, there isn’t currently an option.

Yes, there is ranked. If you read this thread, you’ll see I don’t believe in the “solo vs premade” conspiracy theory. I myself queue solo in ranked regularly, and get fairly good matches most of the time. It’s not “soloq” exactly because you occasionally face 2-3-man parties, but you’re glad you have this option when you are in the 2-3-man party!

Now, of course we can have different views of what queues are for. But if, like me, you want to play with a team of IRL friends with a funny composition, but you all know the conquest rotations pretty well, you can’t possibly go to hotjoin! You can’t even be all in the same team. Even when I try to go to a hotjoin match with only one friend, we end up destroying the other team so much (they are beginners, THAT’S what it’s for) that they won’t even let us be on the same team the following match. For me, unranked is a plaice you can get real matches with people of your skill level, but in a more casual manner, which is fine. When I get a venom-share thief on my team in unranked, I’m not even mad! I try to be near him and make the most creative use of the venoms, since you don’t get to play that very often. People complain about the meta being stale and everyone playing the same builds, so why shouldn’t unranked be the place to get away from this meta a bit?

The main reason is as stated before. You may not prefer to play the way you are describing anywhere but unranked, but people that want a real solo queue have no other option.

Why not just make ranked have the option for premades but unranked is only solo queue?

Seems like the obvious solution to me.

As often, the obvious solution is too simple to be the good one. What happens to those who play with friends but want to try a silly build? Or a silly team composition, just to have fun (quick reminder: we’re actually playing to have fun)? Or those who really want to play with their friend who is a lot better/worse than they are themselves? I personally think ranked/unranked is a much better solution than soloq/teamq. A lot of people complain about getting people on their team with silly builds or not knowing their profession very well, but isn’t that the point? In ranked, if you play in a 3-2-man party, you’re expected to know what you’re doing, out of respect for the rest of your team. Let the opportunity for these teams to get to experience something else.

Do Not Nerf Turret Engi

in PvP

Posted by: Geikamir.6329

Geikamir.6329

Turrets are actually surprisingly hard to destroy even when the engie isn’t there. It really makes no sense. And when the engie is there, it’s very hard to do anything about him. I understand that the automatic response is going to be L2P, but really. If someone was to objectively make a list (no one here for sure) about what builds beat other builds, things that turret engies are good against and what they are bad against would likely be the most skewed list.

Turret engies are actually bad against a LOT of builds because how much their immobility can be exploited. They’re just good at holding a point, especially if the point has a decent amount of LOS and high ledges to place turrets.

The entire purpose of Conquest is holding points. So they happen to be very good at the most important thing.

Yes but that’s not really what you said. But also, that still holds true. In many cases they have a lot of counters. They just so happen to do well against A few standard melee roamers, especially things like thieves who are supposed to be able to kill people and decap. Seems like a good check if you ask me. Because thinks like mesmers, Rangers, hambow, some medi guards and the like actually do quite well against them. They’re not OP, they have huge downfalls and little flexibility.

More times than not what people are really upset about is the ease of play. People get enraged when an AI unit kills them. I think that’s the bigger issue. They have plenty of weaknesses and downfalls and work just like any other rock paper scissor. Scissor is complaining about rock being OP and everyone is complaining that a certain rock is too easy to throw.

Opening up myself to the L2P backlash, but…

So I play a lot of different professions and playstyles. Jumping between is what makes me stay interested. I’ve played with and vs. every current meta build that I know of (and even more janky builds). The only ones that genuinely seem too strong in comparison (as far as ease to counter or even having a hard counter) are Turret Engie far in first, but followed by Shatter Mesmer. With Mesmer it’s easy to spot it’s counter, spamable AoE and condition cleanse (Guardian with a staff is a great example). Turret Engie is a lot harder to counter. The only really consistent argument is to kite or out range him. Unfortunately when you are doing that (which isn’t even that easy to begin with) you aren’t gaining points while he is. And they are very hard to kill even then.

Even bad Engies can only be like, a level 7 of 10, because the turrets are the problem.

- Most of the armor designs in this game are awful, almost purely because of how similar each armor looks within it’s class. It’s also very Flamboyant. I’m pretty sure the entire armor art department are females. Generally speaking, GW1 had drastically better armor. (Obligatory: trenchcoats and butt-skirts).

-Putting X’s in your name to use a name already taken makes you look like a child.

-Most current legendaries look like poorly made high-school musical props.

-Hearts are just renamed quests.

-Roughly 95% of all head armor looks repulsive on Charr and Asura.

Yes, Josh Foreman made the recent Silverwastes jumping puzzle, still with ArenaNet to my knowledge.

That was made by only one guy?

I don’t think he made the complete entirety of it, but he was the main person involved with it.

Until they add pants for light I will never agree that GW2 has good variety. 95% of the leggings are skirts and the other 5% is panties.

I’ve found a singular pair that work for me and so sadly I have to use them on all my light armor users. Seriously, 1 pair of pants for multiple characters. It’s sad. There are a couple more, but they are super odd looking to me. They look more like leggings than pants.

And what’s worse is that it’s not just a light armor thing. All armor classes suffer from a similar problem: They follow a very particular (and polarizing) trend. They all have skirts, coats, or robe/dress hangings. It’s like they take all the armor concepts and right before release they decide to glue on some weird butt-stuff. I have no idea what their agenda is with that, but it’s upsetting!

GW 2 has a large variety in genre types of armor like pirate, scifi, medieval etc unfortunately all the armor is exaggerated and some aspect of the armor pieces are either silly, goofy, or made to large and out of proportion. Anet needs to add some toned down armor sets with calm designs with no exaggerated features and no parts sticking so far out the parts look obnoxious. Last the medium armor is flamboyant the game needs medium armor that looks like is meant to be used in combat and not to just look fancy.

It’s true. Everything is all very fantastical and theatrical. I only play male characters and I want them to just look closer to reality and preferably manly.

More like welcome to ANY game if we’re talking about the vast minority of people that use real money to get items in games. Like my friend who is paid every season in League of Legends to boost accounts, or the people in WoW who buy accounts. The people in Archeage who buy APEX to sell for in-game gold. People treat this sort of thing like it’s unique to GW2 alone, when in fact it’s much less prevalent in GW2 than in any other game I’ve personally observed. And the great thing about the people that buy things with real-life money in GW2? Unlike other MMOs, like Archeage, WoW, RO, ect. where said gold-from-money can be used to gain an advantage the items that are bought are purely cosmetic. Let that sink in, purely. cosmetic.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geikamir.6329

Geikamir.6329

Legendary weapons have components to them that fall into this category, though we’ll be doing work in HOT to make this much less the case. We feel these are optional choices players don’t need to do, but can if they want, and because they are optional are acceptable within our statement that “Gw2 doesn’t make you grind to have the best gear/stats”. That doesn’t mean we can’t make those activities more fun as well, but when we say “no grind philosophy” we’re not including optional things you can do, but don’t need to do, in our definition.

First of all I want to let you know how much I appreciate not only you responded to our concerns in great and well-phrased detail but also your dedication to continuing the conversation past just one post. That’s huge and something developers rarely do well (if at all).

If you can comment on this topic, I’d like to hear your thoughts. It’s related to the exert quoted above regarding legendary weapon ‘grind’ in particular world completion.

Exploring the world the first time through or later at your leisure is excellent, and arguably the best part of PvE in the game. However the second run through the ‘check-list’ is exceptionally tedious.

In particular Hearts (which I honestly think is one of the more archaic systems you guys have implemented, since they are little more than glorified quests) are more of a chore to repeat than most can stand. That belief is compounded by the fact that Hearts are very close to the exact opposite of Events. By that I mean: group effort is not only disregarded but it’s actually often times detrimental to have others around as it makes gathering 5 piles of hay and killing 10 rats take longer. Which is very much against my understanding of the games core philosophy. I know the intention was to help new players learn the ropes, but that gets old after 20 levels much less the 2nd or 3rd run through to obtain more Gifts of Exploration.

My question is: Have you guys taken these concerns into consideration with the new iteration of Legendary acquisition?

This was a bit of a rant, I apologize about that. And I know you could say that world completion is optional, but since cosmetic upgrading IS the end-game for PvE players I honestly don’t think it is. And honestly the issue is deeper than just obtaining more Gifts, but is reflective of some of the plights of the average GW2 player in regards to repetition and ‘grind’ as some would say.

Thanks for your time!

I will very likely do that. I was just wondering if it can be found if they really are a gold farmer or not.

I logged in today and I had a message with a stack of ecto from someone I don’t know. It had a warning that the message was from another player and not Arena Net. This feels like some kind of accidental gold farmer interaction or something of the sort.

I just left the ecto in the mail slot and haven’t touched it. How to I go about getting the sender checked into?

Geikamir really screwed me up because Chaos Skin prices took a nose dive after the patch went live because they were still 1 ticket. Made 50g less than I would have if I sold the night before.

I was going off of history and also this:

“New Chaos weapon skins are available for the next four weeks from Black Lion Weapons Specialists for the introductory price of one Black Lion Weapon Ticket. Black Lion Weapon Tickets can be found in Black Lion Chests.”

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-12-2014

So technically they could mean AFTER 4 weeks, but that’s misleading.

Hi,

Just a quick clarification about the initial video: this is a preview of the September 2014 Feature Pack collection and it shows rewards that are unique to the collection feature, but they’re not precursors. These rewards are the named exotics that drop from Champion loot bags.

Underwhelming in every way.
