I drastically prefer armor sets over outfits. My opinions usually differ from the designers and I would much rather be able to put take out the weird parts they they put on most sets/outfits.
1. True SoloQ, with no more than 2-mans.
2. Drastically less swingy MMR matchups.
3. Build templates.
Is this test purely for how the ladderboards are supposed to rate players or is there any chance this is attempting to find more ways to not let premades face pugs?
Thank you, I’m glad this has been fixed.
After a lot of playing recently I’ve noticed that the MMR changes after maybe about 12 hours. And also it’s exceptionally swingy. I’ll go a day where I’ll win 15+ out of my 20 matches. The next day, I’ll lose like 8 in a row.
After I have a high win rate, the next day my team will consist of lots of new players and my enemy team is more likely to have 3+ man premade teams.
It’s pretty frustrating.

I’m speaking on behalf of power Necro.
Cast times are too long, mobility is way too limited, and there are too few defenses to make up for it.
The intent seems to be giving Necro have a ton of life (and DS) to burn through as it’s primary source of defense. This isn’t working.
When focused (which is basically always) you just die. You can’t go invis, you can’t block, you only have one form of port (wurm, which is obviously subpar to all other ports), stability hardly exists, you can’t go invulnerable, you can’t leap, etc.
Overall everything about it is just clunky, slow, and vulnerable. That’s the best way to describe the current state of Necro.
I don’t mind people afking if the difference is 200+ points, sometimes I do, too.
You do that sometimes but you come to the forums to QQ?
Did you even read his post or just looking to veer the conversation elsewhere?
I disagree, i was in NA and at the end there for solo ques i was having to wait 8-15 min and was only playing the elite players in the game. I was actually yolo queing in team ques to get into matches. Not to mention that people who right about fighting premades all the time have been called out and have had salt thrown back at them but refuse to listen and just say stuff like “mm atm isnt working” because i say so.
Before i started using mesmer i was over 55% in solo queing in ranked, i run into certain premades all the time and dont find it to be a big deal because the matches are close and seem to be even.
Lastly you saying your fighting 2 vs 1 means nothing. it could of been 2 vs 2 at mid one of your teammates died and 1 left to finish you at your point. Better yet the zerg mentality which your team loses a 3 vs 3 at a point and 2 run to you. Your saying you fighting 2 vs 1 but we have no idea the circumstance of the fights.
Im sorry not to be a downer but solo que imo was always a bad thing. People ran in ther ewith builds not good for team play and said oh i won my fight or i carried when you ran all skills for just yourself. Max invisibility thiefs, signet warriors, turret engys who sit, max invisibility mesmers. It sounds like your on Eu so it might be different for you but from where i sit i disagree.
First of all, I would rather have longer queues than getting the matches I’ve been getting. They’re really not fun at all. And it’s not because of losing, it’s because they’re frustrating as hell. People making beginner mistakes, not knowing the basics. There’s literally nothing I can do. I actually enjoy the games with people who are good at this game, those matches are fun. And no, matchmaking is really not working. If it was, I wouldn’t be matched with someone who is REALLY new one game and top players next game.
Alright, sorry for not clearing that one up. About the 2v1’s, I was thinking about a few situations when I just had 2v1 from the start, not my teammate dying. It’s really not a big issue, anyone okay at this game could 2v1 those players. It just points out to matchmaking not working again.
And you think people will run different builds just because there is no soloq? People will run what they feel like running if they queue solo. Sorry to burst your bubble but there are still turret engis (and even more of them now), signet warriors, perma stealth thieves and pu mesmers.
Once again imo i feel people change there builds based on going into team que. Ive literally had turret engy change characters mid match since they couldnt leave a cap point without getting killed. I use to run into signet warriors all the time in solo ques and i never see them anymore. Will there be a few people, yeah of course but once again. You have a few people asking for solo que when ultimately the masses are playing better in team que and the game was meant for people to team up.
Then have a team queue for teams and a solo queue for solo players. Problem solved.
IMO Necro just needs a bit more combat mobility. Once focused, Necros have hardest time peeling off. While that’s understandable because they have death shroud, I think they would benefit from a leap. I’m hoping greatsword brings this to the table.
@k daddy
So what you’re saying is that you typically play in premades and see nothing wrong with the way the matchmaking currently works. Hmmm, I can’t imagine why.
I know it’s been said several times but please bring back soloq. Especially now when matchmaking doesn’t seem to work at all. No matter what you do, how good you play, you can’t possibly carry four people if they’re doing complete kitten. And I’m talking about people capping points in two, going to treb in three (why?!), not understanding you actually have to stand on a point to cap it. How is it possible we even get matched with these people?
Which brings another question, how the kitten hell does the matchmaking works? I don’t get it. I can easily 2v1 people on enemy team and my team is still losing. How? This is maybe bringing some new people, but making the old ones really not want to play. If you don’t have a team, you’re screwed.
Not even mentioning that the amound of 4v5’s has increased by a lot. I’ve had like four of them in 15 games.
I know you say that community wanted something else, but seeing as community still keeps asking for soloq, you might wanna reconsider. Or please fix your matchmaking.
I completely agree.
Every time this gets brought up there will be some people coming into the thread (who probably only fight on pre-mades) trying to steer the conversation into a L2P attack. It always happens. So let’s see how long it takes.
I wish it was still available too for me to report my experiences on.
Some days are pretty even, somewhere between a 45-65% win ratio. And then some days I’ll have streaks like you mention. Going like 8 or 9 games in a row either completely rolling all the other teams or (more frequently, sadly) get rolled by the other teams. It’s either a premade against a pug group or specifically all the new players are on one team and all the higher ranked players on the other (yeah, yeah, rank doesn’t mean anything- but when a group of 80’s are up against a group of 30-60’s the experience really starts to become apparent).
Playing during off hours drastically magnifies this effect too. It happens far more frequently during those times.
It’s very discouraging and not a fulfilling experience even when on the winning side.
I guess whining and crying solves all problems eh
I like the adverse approach that you are using. Quietly hoping some will change. Seems productive.
We get it you are mad about premade vs solo queue, but it doesn’t do any favors when you intention spew bullkitten like this. We all know why the current system it is the way it is, you don’t need to make up some stuff.
Until either of us have any hard numbers, we are both assuming. But there will never be hard numbers given to us. So unless there is a more logical solution, this is what I’m going with.
(edited by Geikamir.6329)
The problem is players’ mentality regarding premades vs soloers. Before the Queue change I’d always Q into team Arena by myself knowing that there is a possibility to face premade and then get wiped. However the solo players in general who queued in team arena had winning mentality and they didn’t back down from communication disadvantage.
In fact I had a lot of fun crushing low tier-medium tier premade teams to ground and it happened more than a few times. As of now all these people whining about premades are having losing mentality which would affect individual performance and lead to giving up early. Unless the premades are ESL or WTS competitors, I believe there’s a fighting chance against premades.
“Play this game and have fun knowing that there’s a small chance that you won’t get completely rolled. It’ll be a blast!”
There’s a simple way to solve this problem, force premades to fight other premades. 5 man q? how about you just increase the wait time to find a match until a suitable opposing team is found. Who cares if they have to wait 20 mins for their queue to pop, beats the alternative.
The reason they won’t do that is because they want this game to be an esport. Esports requires competitive teams. There aren’t many of them. They need practice. Solution? Feed the plebs to them. Result? Dwindling PvP population.
I’m pretty excited about being able to just port around everywhere in Shiro stance.
Ventari though? Very odd choice.
And if you are playing off hours and the main competition that is available is a premade, then you will sometimes get the same team multiple times in a row. The only solution at that point is to not play. That’s ridiculous. PUGs should only have to face PUGs.
I’ll also go on similar streaks. It feels like a lottery chance of which team gets the newer players on their team or if I am going to get paired against a premade. I’m pretty sure it’s based on how many people are playing at the time, but even then it seems like some games are so lop-sided that the pairings were just randomized instead of based on some sort of skill-based metric.
It completely blows my mind every time I think about the fact that premades aren’t forced to play in ‘ranked’ matches so that solo-queued players can have ‘unranked’. Letting solo players get farmed is worse than long queues by a long shot. Because by pushing out new and solo players from wanting to play, you are inevitably makes queues in the future even longer.
This kills the pvp.
The leaked Chinese patch notes mention Shadow weapons. If it’s the same weapon as from GW1, I’ll be very pleased. The sword in particular. Though I’m interested to see how they handle the staff and hammer.
lol yeah sorry, I just got excited and asked away without reading the rest of the post! XD
You just described 90% of the posts in this entire forum with just 1 sentence. Impressive.
Because there’s so much kitten talking about bad teammates that it kittens me off. If you were good you would be able to carry games regardless of the skill level of your teammates.
I’m just tiered of people who QQ 24/7 about bad teammates when they lose all their 1v1s and even fights.
You seem like an angry person.
Asura characters most definitely have a huge advantage. The smaller character size makes it hard to see and targeting in a fight, the skill animations are close to non-existent, and you can’t even see what weapon set they are using sometimes.
Solution : don’t play ranked if you’re new.
Play lots of practise, then do unranked.
Not even remotely a solution. I play almost exclusively unranked solo queue. The matchmaking there is awful.
One thing that would have greatly helped would have been underwater stomping. It could have had the same animation as communing for a skill point.
Anecdotal evidence of the day:
While in solo queue I notice a player with no guild and in starting armor. I asked in team chat if they were new and they said they played at launch and are just coming back. Another player chimed in and said it was the same for them. Our enemy team had at least 3 rank 80’s and were doubled guilded.
Why is this a thing? If they were going to match new players with experienced players because of a lack of other players to choose from, why not do it evenly? Or put new players on the same team as a 3-member premade. It seems so obvious.
What your seeing imo is that most long time solo queueing players are playing less then ever for a variety of reasons and they are being replaced by people new to spvp but who are nevertheless given average MMRs to start due to how the rating system works currently To make a simple example imagine your rating as 1-10 completely new players come in with a rating of 5 when in reality they are 1’s.
New players should always come in at 1. It’s hard to be worse than to have never played the game(type) before. Even if they are naturally more skilled than that, it’s better to have one slightly decent player teamed against bad players than teamed against experienced players. The skill level between them and experienced players will absolutely be greater. And the game experience for everyone involved is much worse the way it is now.
This sounds like just what I’m looking for.
Been playing since pre-launch (with some breaks) and played PvP sporadically the whole time. I also played GW1 since it’s beta. The past few weeks I’ve been getting in a lot more games in and it’s really got me interested in getting more serious. Also these Solo Queues are aging me too quickly!
I’m currently rank 56 and have Champion Shadow title (mostly as S/P). Recently I’ve been spending most of my time on my Power Ranger and Power Necro and consider these my current PvP ‘mains’ (though for me that is quite a loose term). I have a fair bit of experience with D/D Ele, Shout bow Warrior variant, and a Zerker Medi Guardian variant as well. I have a smidgen of experience on Mesmer and Engie, but not much. I’m willing to, and enjoy, switching up to what a team might need. The more variety the better for me.
I’m on JQ but that doesn’t matter any, just throwing it out there.
Your mention of playing non-meta comps and choosing your own style, as well as your more relaxed attitude, is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m very easy going, looking to learn and grow, and looking for a good group of players to have fun with (and win with).

Match making is hosed due to the new players who bought the game for 10 bucks over the PAX weekend. A week or two and it’ll be better. Not good mind you, but better.
The system is obviously flawed. New players should never be paired with or against rank 80s unless there is literally no other option. The experience is bad for everyone.
During the weekend all the new players should have been matched together. Instead, it was a complete train wreck. Full rank 80 premades destroying rag-tag groups of randomly ranked PUGs.
There should be an option to choose to wait longer in the queue if it means you only face other solos, if i have to wait twice as long to get a true solo queue match im okay with that
I’m beginning to think they don’t give us a real solo queue just because they know the majority will only play that. It’s sad because that means they are essentially feeding solo players to the wolves.
Gaile, thanks for the heads up.
Are you able to tell us when to start expecting blog posts outlining more HoT stuff? Exact dates aren’t needed but something like “Not this week” or “In the next couple weeks” etc.
Specifically the first day of PAX was the worst PvP experience I’ve ever had. Even made a post about it.
Not sure if a patch broke the MMR system or (the more likely) the influx of players trying to take advantage of the buff really revealed the flaws of the system with a magnifying glass.
I remember this being a complaint that players had since beta. Letting us change the color would help a lot. Also having it two-toned or shadowed with a second color would greatly improve its visibility.
I’d consider AP or played time a better measure to reward loyalty than just signing in to a mailing list
I’d consider gem store (cash) purchases a better measure of loyalty. AP and play time is a measure of available leisure time.
Unless they’re testing out making a couple clicks in the gem store, I think AP and play time are vastly more reflective on one’s ability to play through the game deeply.
It’s actually so much better if you’re ranked in the leaderboards. People know how to rotate, they know the meta builds, they make relatively smart decisions, etc. I know that’s a small number of people, but it’s not all bad. Premades are honestly only an issue if you (or most of your team) don’t know what you’re doing.
If you think having a predetermined group of players that have practiced together, built a team around, and that talk to each other via teamspeak throughout the match don’t make a difference vs a PuG group then I really don’t know what to say. That’s a view I’ll literally never agree with.
Some days my teammates all seem to know the basic mechanics and either it’s a good fight or we stomp the other team.
And some days are like today. Because 6 of my 8 matches were vs premade teams of 3-5 memebers. Lots were rank 80. I, and almost everyone I’ve played with, are not rank 80 (I repeatedly asked). There were lots of players than seemed to barely even understand the game type (and RNGesus put them all on my team). And 2 of those 8 matches had afkers and/or leavers in the first minute of the game.
I’ve played more than 8 matches today, but that’s just when I started keeping track because of truly awful the experience was becoming. It’s been one of the most frustrating days I’ve ever had in any game.
Majority is happy with current system.
Prove it…
There are hundreds/thousands of players, soloing, tpvping, who haven’t posted their QQ on the forums. That goes for NA and EU both.
That leads me to think they’re ‘ok’ with it. But only Anet has the answer.
That’s still 100% assumption.
So I originally posted this in another thread, but felt like making it’s own thread so to not derail that one. I welcome anyone else to post your experiences as well!
So far today:
The buff has likely brought in more people than normal. You would think this would balance the matchmaking up better. In fact, it’s worse today than it has been in weeks. I have been up against 5 premade (3 member+ of the same guild) teams in a row. Members of my team have had starting armor on, fought off point an embarrassing number of times, and fed the enemy team with impressive urgency.
It’s extremely frustrating.
Update Game 6: Not against a premade, but we had an afk and then followed by a leaver.
Update Game 7: A full 5 man guild team with at least 3 of them being rank 80 (none on my team were rank 80).
Update Game 8: None of the same guild, but 3 were Legendary Champions. Our team had 1 afker after the first team fight loss. Final score: 25 to 500.
Update Game 9: Close game even though we had a leaver early on. Final score was 445 to 500. I think the reason we were able to keep up is that the other team seemed mostly inexperienced.
Update Game 10: Courtyard. There were 2 players on my team with starting armor and no titles (doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but you see what I mean). The other team had 2 Legendary Champions and another with the Dragon finisher. We had a leaver half way through.
On that note, gonna take a break for a while to cool off. I’ll update later.

It just seems like that because Engie was today. The threads about turrets have been ongoing.
Turret build is extremely good 1v1 and is wonderful in a team setting. It’s ability to bunker on a point is insane. Even someone that is mediocre normally becomes tough as nails to kill. It requires too little effort to be as good as it is.
Agreed completely.
Majority is happy with current system.

Am I the only one that hates this question?
Good video. Entertaining and informative, good job!
In a game thats built around cosmetics, everyone looking the same ruins it. It’s like going to a concert and the band just plays the same song for an hour. Sure, some people like that. But it really wrecks the experience for everyone else.
Who cares about clipping. Just let me mix and match.

I really hope you asked about armor and if we are going to get more options with less trenchcoats and butt-skirts.
