Costume Brawls (something that nobody does outside of when they have to for dailies) was added before duels…..
What was anet thinking exactly?
I hate duels. I hate the duel system in most MMOs. I have blocked so many annoying “duelists” in other MMOs just for this.
Costume brawls are voluntary. You “suit” up and go. It’s a blast to me because it’s not a bunch of little morons running around asking for duals to ppl that just don’t care to. Almost irritates me as much as the old gold moochers did.
This. I hate duels with a passion. I turned off duels in WoW because some kitten would always plop down out of nowhere and want to duel when I was in the middle of farming or whatever.
If A-Net never put in a dueling system, I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Just one less checkbox I have to check in the options panel.
So you’re going to take out a major part of a game that many players would absolutely love to have, simply so you don’t have to go into your options a single time and check a single box?
Yeah….selfish
Many players obviously have stated they would not love to have.
Why is it that you and a couple others think that a check box is all that it would need to make this happen? Not that simple. And they need to work on real things right now. Not “dual me dual me dual me”

you irritate me
Then my job is done.
But nothing is governing anything here. So now the rate exchange has declined more than half?
Awesome…but keep spouting how it’s the norm.
Player transactions govern the exchange. I think this fact has been well-established already.
Ummm…yeah. The fact might be established that this is why the economy sucks. Maybe? If it is a true economy, the “people/players” do not control it entirely. So that the minority, but most active, cannot destroy said economy. Right?
Srsly?
You think it’s ok for rates to drop this drastically?
I have a hunch. It is…just a hunch…
But my hunch is that it might have to do with worthless posts and the replies made thereafter.
I didn’t like getting duel-spammed in Goldshire any more than anyone else, but a little pit people could fight in in Lion’s Arch or something would be cool.
Would fit the lore more than costume brawls.
never mind…I see the point

I’m having fun. And the current argument I see is asinine. Why you people are even arguing it just shows the state of this age’s gamer’s intellect.
Thread title is “Are you having fun?”. Not “Did you expect layoffs?”.
You guys are still going to be stuck with the regular Ori pickaxes, on your alts, unless you want to invest another 20-22 gold pr alt, since Molten pickaxes are Soulbound.
Money sink…
It cost me 0 gold. It did however cost me $10 real world money, and as I love this game $10 or even $30 for the set for development of the game is to me a bargain. Why does everyone here compare the in game gold as the cost of items is beyond me, if you want to support the game take a crowbar to your wallet or quit complaining at the “cost” of things.
Being account bound would be nice for the gem cost, but as I am not an alt-aholic I don’t much care.
Seriously? You are going to state this as some sort of argument?
You used RL money instead of gold. It’s the same thing! It’s all the same!! We may not have the real money to spend like you. So our in game currency is different somehow?
You reply makes my brain bleed
From the thread just above this…
My response is still…
This is all assuming that there’s a government overseeing the economy. I mean…the way some of you describe it, it’s as living as any other economy in the world. Except in the real world, people govern it and watch it. We panic when our “dollar” drop below desirable levels…right?
But nothing is governing anything here. So now the rate exchange has declined more than half?

You’re using proper punctuation on the internet? You fiend, don’t you know that is STRICTLY forbidden!
On all seriousness, why would people really get kitten over the punctuation, they’re usually too busy harping on grammar to care.
This ^
A thread on punctuation in chat? Seriously?
So…using five hundred different shortcuts for real life terms or words is ok, but proper periods are questioned? How weird.
No Trinity needed. As many have said, the many builds we can make leaves the trinity boring and out of date.
I also think that mocking a Guardian for being a low HP glass cannon is just ridiculous…since it’s one of the top rated builds I’ve seen. So someone must be using it. :P
Also find it funny the Mirta turned into Rizzy all of a sudden at the end there. (that the boyfriend?)
:D
Stop posting on this…they drop fine now. I’ve gotten one every three days now. Finish areas, key. Do story to a certain level (used to be 10 only, now…I’ve gotten 3 in under lvl 50 on the story).
Had 29 chests…down to 15 or so in a couple of months without buying keys.
There’s no hit and miss. Just difference….period. Tweaks need to be made, but my 80 ranger, 80 guardian (twice done), and soon to be 80 engi can tell you that there’s not much “hit and miss” as there is player “miss”
The other side is arguing that warriors are more efficient than rangers, for a person who plays each with the same skill. I’m pretty sure they’re right about that. So people who worry about efficiency will feel that they have no choice but to play a warrior.
It’s a fair enough complaint, actually, without all the hyperbole surrounding it, with the sky is falling business.
Stuff will get fixed, eventually, I’m pretty sure warriors will end up getting a nerf and then we all get to enjoy their tears of suffering for a while.
But….they aren’t when I’m there. They do their thing and I do mine. They live because I’m there sometimes (a lot of the time)
It’s really funnny to see what’s posted here these days. Then living it on the field. My Guard is great for damage and AoE, but goes down and needs help. But when I play my Ranger…I’m a catch all. I damage, can release to rez, or whatever. But I live in the end with my Ranger more than the Guard or any Warrior in the mix. Of course this is “only” PvE
I think bystanders who cannot help in the fight might think it’ “mega”.
Us as the heroes may not. That’s where the problem lies.

internet lameness
I make my 14+g a day simply by playing the game.
OMFG! How do you guys do this?! You must have over 1,000 gold now!
I really struggle to make 1-2 gold a day and I’ve been playing 2-5 hours every day since launch. I’ve tried farming Orr, WvW, personal story, dungeons but I just get a silver her and there and then I have to repair gear (at level 80 it gets really expensive). The most I’ve got is 6 silver for taking down a garrison or 50 silver for the monthly… T.T
Between you and the person you quoted is where you could be. You should not struggle to make 1-2 gold. But kitten will always say they make around 14.
You can figure it out depending on how you want to play
The difference is I have videos on these forums showing me making 2g/hr ^^ And everyone on my server who partys with me will agree. But if you are 80 and haven’t been around long there’s nothing wrong with making about 1-3g a day as a casual player.
No I getcha now…
So…we need dancing clothes above most right now?

CoF farming & event farming with Omnomberry Bar +guildflag bonus. 8-12g after 5 hours on average depends on how long you can take doing the same thing over and over and luck.
I dont do it cause i dont care about my gold.
Soo….what?
From a lazy persons perspective you could simply buy the funds to support the craft. From my perspective when I was gathering etc and leveling my main, those mats allowed me to make money or use them to level crafting on my second character. It seems as though every character you hit 80 with just makes it easier and easier lol. But no the collecting the mats is only grinding if you see it that way. That word “grinding” is overly used without a very specific definition. I could say merely logging in to do the daily is a grind, where others do fotm every day all week long and call doing dragon events grinding. Personally I see grinding as being forced to do something to get to something else you want. If you are willingly doing it because you have a goal, then i don’t see it as grinding I see it as working towards your goal. I know that sounds confusing lol.
But now say you need to log in every single day gather 300 ore, if you don’t you will never get the item you want. There’s no other options, and this item is required to enjoy the game. You could consider that a grind I suppose. On the flip side, you could simply call EVERYTHING a grind since, well, it is lol. Your grinding your skills, your grinding dailies, monthlies, dungeons, events. I think the importance isn’t IF your grinding but WHAT your grinding and how hard it is. If you’re doing something that helps you enjoy the game, well I call that playing the game.
Awesome post
happens if you leave the area of the fight. You keep retreating, it resets. Nothing unusual. You would have to come up with real proof otherwise.
lol…um…Christmas?
Can these…“people” buy gifts with karma?

Nothing is wrong with Orr….is the focal point. Get through it or die.
GW2=Ability to level a character to max in 1 day, acquire best non ascended gear in 1 day.
Please let me know how this is done! If you’re going to say crafting then isn’t the collection of mats grinding?
You want a guide to tell you how to game?
I just don’t understand what people are expecting from this game to call it “no grind”.
I want the game that was promised. Best stats gear is not available without a grind.
Still here waiting for you…or…waiting for you to change you mind about what grinding really is.
You just don’t have enough of a downside to warrant it….period!
No one is having such a hard time that they need to see what everyone is wearing. Most all of the content can be run in greens. If not, it’s skill. Can you spec skill now too? Such a ridiculous request/subject for this game.
I recall games that would allow you to evaluate the skill of a player based on whether they’d spec’d correctly…
BS…and you know it
Spec’ing has no skill involved other than in internet account….or access.
The major majority thinks the dailies are fine. Why do you ppl think we need a million posts and a thousand pages trying to convince….someone….that you are right because you feel this way. No one else does. We all get our dailies done in one half, to a whole hour. Without swaying from our daily routine.
You got that right? Daily routine…get our dailies done with few minor exceptions.
I can only guess…that you all think it’s fun to debate. While the rest of us just play and get our dailies/monthlies done without effort.
Ah so you are the new spokesman for the remaining player base. Gotcha.
If we can get back to the dailies for a second, though…
I’d be perfectly fine with them adding all the original daily requirements back into the list, supplemented with some new options every day. Old dailies used to feel like less of a ‘chore’ to do.Either way, it doesn’t bother me in the least, whatever they do. If I’m almost at the end of my play session for the day I have a look at what is needed for completing the daily. If it’s something like a JP or salvaging or gathering I’ll do it. If not then I just log off. I refuse to be gated into specific activities. It’ll take me longer to get that gold boost amulet, or pet, or tonic (for example) but whatever.
lol…yeah. I’m the new spokesman for the "I never knew it was hard or I was “gated” (whatever the hell that means) community. We do have thousands in our community though. We are at peace with dailies and don’t feel we are entitled to do anything but play the kitten game placed before you.
I have never…EVER…been “gated” (seriously…a new word created for this kind of thing? We don’t have enough kitten words associated with MMOs?) into doing anything I don’t normally do in game.
You just don’t have enough of a downside to warrant it….period!

It’s more a feeling while playing than anything that can be defined to me. And I get no such felling here as I did in many MMOs before.
Those who resist change are doomed to be left behind.
[hypothetical] What happens when Anet releases in-game voice chat? Are we gunna say ‘no thanks’ because elitists will be able to use voice chat to make fun of me or call out my mistakes more often?
Elitists are a small, but LOUD minority who prefer the company of each other. If you guys could grow a pair and stop playing the victim, you’d realize you’re the majority and there are plenty of like-minded people you can group with.
The more options you have the more immersive the game becomes. Part of WoW’s success can be attributed to community built add-ons, which allowed the game to evolve separate from the devs and meet the needs of different niches in the community.
So….is this for or against it?
Change isn’t adding spec. It’s been around for years. Also not an “option” and would never make anything more “immersive”
You are right about the elitists that want this though.
The major majority thinks the dailies are fine.
Prove it.
There are under 20 of you kittening about it. The rest are playing fine. Nuff said

The challenge here is that the game has to err on the side of the mobs in these situations, they cannot profit or gain from exploiting a player…
The challenge you describe is no the challenge at hand. If they realy thought on the issue then they should have not litterd whole landscape with mobs just for filling the void. They should have thought out placement of mobs on the ground were they are profficient at what they do, not because some “lore mastermind” placed on the feeling based in some mythology. The landescape should also be adjusted for them to feel like they are masters of the land what they claim. Right now all the lands feel more like some art shmuck painted it and 3D artits just bloated it to poligons, how many time have you encauntered places where things doesnt stick like they are generated from some picture and not because they realy polished the walkable path?
You see this game quite differently than most then.
I really have no clue as to this issue posted by the OP except in a very small instance. Yet….you have yourself, painted it into some abstract atrocity.
Seriously…ppl. If you are this angry at Anet or something. Don’t post. You aren’t making any point other than you should not be making a point.
Dailies and (not even valid…weeklies) is the main headline.
Like to join the topic kitten?
Wait..no…casue dailies are so easy it’s stupid. But you can’t do stupid stuff.
Actually it’s quite useful because you can get a much better sense of where your party is at and, with good players, people know what to anticipate. If I see a weaker player, I know I need to watch them and be on my game. If there’s special gear that tips off experience, it lends confidence to the group. If something is really off with gear, people can help straighten them out and give advice. A new player could see what high-level players use to help them along.
I’m stilll a firm believer in the fact I am pro enough that I can evaluate the performance of my party in real time – but I can see most are not. I apologise for suggesting that a tool to look at the gear of a player was not required in this task.
You want to “straighten them out and give them advice” and to this end allow others “see what high-level players use to help them along”… riiiiiiiiiiigggghhhht.
What?
I’m sorry to hear that. I think it’s poor design to have applying upgrades soulbind gear, too
Huh?
what? Why?
How else would it be used?
Why are we still debating this?!?!
I will let you inspect me when you can kill me and search my dead body. Otherwise…stfu
lol…well it sounds like you have accomplished “the” goal. The classes matter not if you are having fun with the one you chose.
I get tons of these mostly farming Orr, I believe from bags. the other mats you get are worth plenty as well, and like stated before you could sell those to purchase the fangs.
Uh huh…and now…not
I guess is what we are saying. Did something change?
Depends solely on what you want from them…
I can so see this thread growing by the tinfoil hat wearing crowd. You get some great materials….or not
It’s too random. I did the same and nadda but a couple fangs. Seem slike the victim of the same crap Anet imposed on us. Nothing makes sense to me.
For those interested, here’s one of the interviews:
MMORPG: Can you explain, in layman’s terms, what Culling is, and why it’s such a hot topic with WvW?
Habib Loew: Culling is essentially a process by which the server chooses to not tell players about certain other players. It was all about limiting the breakdown of resources from a client to server standpoint. The issue with it was that a huge battle would errupt and you would not see other players. It definitely had its drawbacks.
MMORPG: Back in January, one of the fixes for culling went into place, and it seemed to help a bit. But how will the changes coming in March eliminate this completely? There are a few skeptics in Bill’s (Murphy) guild that think it can’t be done.
Habib Loew: Hah, yeah we have seen a lot of the skepticism on the Internet. The change we made in January was really just a tweak to the system. It changed the priorities of Culling but did not eliminate it. The change in March will turn off Culling completely. You will now see every character within range of you. There will be several different options for how other players are presented to you, on the client side that you can choose from so you can control how it works for you.
Now, this particular developer is the “WvW Coordinator and Principle Programmer”, so maybe that’s why he’s mainly mentioning WvW (that, and the question was directed at WvW). Part of me tends to think that if you have a fantastic solution that fixes everything, you go out of your way to advertise that it fixes everything. Otherwise, you try to be as specific as possible. But, hopefully we’re all pleasantly surprised.
Nice…I hope for March. Then we…who prolly would be friends…would not have to be here arguing.
Two things happened, guesting is only one of them (and I bet the minor one). The main reason (IMHO) was that the dragon chests became too attractive with them containing a guaranteed rare each, which could be salvaged to up to 3 ectos (which sell for 30s each) each, so that everyone is trying to do them.
I’d bet that if they did turn off guesting the net result would be the same, instead of the guests from other servers you’ll have people from your own server that used to guest on other servers taking their place.
But of course, we can only guess, only anet has the actual data on how many people did the events before, how many do them now (we can’t even see them all because of culling), and how many are guests.
I’m not disagreeing that there are other factors.
I’m simply disagreeing with the notion that guesting isn’t contributing to the problem, because all “evidence” we have suggests that it’s at least a partial contributor to the problem.
It is…it’s the icing on the cake. The cake is the patch where it made these events so popular. People that disagree are not thinking straight
Who’s in lecture mode…you?
You just detailed what I said. Wasn’t talking about mobs. Was saying that WvW is talked about or maybe more affected because it DOES affect player models more. If you don’t think so…then you don’t know as much as you think. Mobs are not rendered as highly as player models in any game.
And yet he is correct. Depending on the fix it might not remove all culling from PvE. Culling is more than just player models it is just the most talked about.
Which is what I said…it is more talked about. I replied to the WvW thing. It’s more talked about because the player models are affected first or more…right? We don’t notice the mobs as much…right? AM I talking German? Cause I could get a great job if I could speak German.

Its BOTH…what are you ppl sniffing? Guesting was here before the patch and we didn’t have a problem. Now we do. Can you at least do the math?
Before the patch guesting wasn’t an issue because there was no reason to guest just for certain events.
Now you’re rewarded for guesting onto other servers just for certain events in certain places.
If you could only get one chest day, regardless of server. Guesting would be back to its original numbers and purpose.
The rewards are responsible for people guesting for events. But players guesting are directly responsible for the issues we’ve seen.
That’s my point. Guesting HAS become a problem, but not THE problem.
ahhh…well that’s, nice to know. Or not. But at least I know. Wonder what will really happen though
