I understand, but coming from 6 years of GW1 I see posts like this and it doesn’t have a huge impact on me, so I apologize for my bias. At the end of the day you’re playing a glorified hack and slakitten

hink the problem is that Arenanet sacrificed skill rotation for mobility mechanics, but those mechanics are not equal to the sacrifice considering difficulty = hit points.

We can probably complain about a lot of the same things, but you have to be careful with the generalizations. It’s a good thread if you read it while trying to ignore the plurality but most of the time when people see “we” and “all of us” and “everyone” it’s a huge turnoff.

I think they need to take an eye off of nerf/buff seesaw and WvW and look at their biggest opportunity for being a standout MMO – these events. I love the DE system but they’re so bland and unexciting. Gold medal should be something to strive for, and you should be rewarded with a green or gold item.

Fix event reward ranks

Gnat.9405

This is a pretty selfish post. First of all you have to factor in the mechanic of event scaling. If you’re doing Shadow Behemoth at 80 and there are people there of the required level 15, obviously they are not contributing as much as you, statistically.

I think this is why players who contribute not little but rather contribute until their limitations no longer allow it, deserve Gold rewards – it’s unfair to go to a lower zone with an 80 and blame the qualifying level 55 fornot doing well against the Shatterer soley because you did better.

Mind you, this is only for downscaled events. In lv80 events I imagine there is more of a baseline reqward qualifier.

Black Lion Chests

I would assume that Black Lion Keys are one of the main constant cash flows for ANet’s gem shop. That being said, I think it would benefit both the development and the player base if the chest offered (on a common-uncommon basis, not astronomical RNG lottery) T6 materials. It would give players incentive to alleviate the 100+ chests to one key ratio, as well as provide a meaningful item from the chests for players that aren’t interested in the current rewards.

I can see how this could evoke player protest becuase you’re essentially buying out grind time, but it is no different than buying gems and trading for gold.

This argument will be shot down with the reasoning all similar arguments are shot down:

These items are optional. You are not being forced to pay for them, and there is no advantage to owning them.

Now, that being said, I do agree with the fact that RNG rewards are out of this world, and I think the whole system should be overhauled. But it is a losing argument because of the above fact, and ANet’s failsafe to the claim of unfairness.

I’m hoping it’s just an issue of content priority and these popular topics are noted, but lagging behind more pressing matters. I guess we’ll see.

In regards to alliances and Guilds in general, I think there is a lot to see in the future as soon as playable content is brought up to standards. GW1 offered some of the best social interaction between gaming groups and guilds I’ve seen.

Agreed. In all honesty the only thing I got out of this dragon bash was the wing skin. How did I get that? Not from the 400 gems i spent on chests, or the 100 other green chests that dropped but from repetitvely farming CoF to pay the 27g for it. Not very lively, and there wasn’t any other option that had a clear result other than just buying it off the tp.

Play the game. My friend and I both had them drop off of random mobs, one in Kessex, one in Fractals I think. With their price tanking I’m assuming this isn’t uncommon.

What Would You Pay For?

Gnat.9405

I’m starting this thread with hopes that it can get many suggestions and possibly a sticky.

There are tons of threads suggesting items for the gem store, and positive responses are most often accompanied by “I would certainly pay X gems for that!”

So I’m interested in what realistically implementable items you would be willing to spend actual cash on if seen in the gem store. These items would follow the theme of Transmute Stones, Keys, Cosmetics, Dyes, Minis, etc.

Here are my top 5:

1. Race Change Kit – this has been a hot issue in the forums recently
2. Karma Transfer Stones – almost everyone has a main character that they like to accumulate Karma on, but doing events on alts is just as fun
3. Crafting Starter Kit – crafting is a big part of the game but getting into the deep end of it can be painstaking for players with little time to partake
4. World Boss Timer – This may cause controversy being a paid item, but with many free sources for this information, it is completely optional
5. Profession-Specific Armor Skins – We have racial armors, but profession specific skins could be an interesting addition

I’m sure there are many items that players would like to see and would like to purchase to support their favorite game. Let’s hear what yours are!

The problem with this (as well as every other profession) is the fact that there is no dedicated anything. I understand why you would want Ranger to be the way you described, but most people would tell you to just run berserker gear. Guild Wars 2 has a problem of limiting its professions’ capabilities due to the restraints of its balancing mechanics, i.e. allowing any class any role. It’s an idea that looks good on paper, but I’ve said it many times and will continue saying it:

Making every class as balanced as they are (in PvE) does not leave each class feel equally contributing, but equally useless. Unless you’re a Mesmer or Guardian you have no place in a group that won’t be filled by the next.

After playing through my third personal story, I paid more attention to the events taking place in my chosen faction (in my case it was the Vigil). It made me wonder why after the personal story there is pretty much no reason to affiliate with them except for getting weapons and armor.

I want to suggest the faction keeps offering players daily quests with BLC-type rewards. or even new faction-specific type things.

Perhaps quests such as personal bounties, artifact recovery, map exploration, jumping puzzles, etc.

Would be a neat way for the player to stay current with their personal stories and give a casual player another objective during the few hours of gameplay available to them.

The difference is in the maps. GW1 maps were more like large open dungeons than an explorable world. The dynamic of capturing an elite skill required group effort and strategy, more often than not. It was a scavenger hunt that was comprised of a very personal experience every single time you walked out of an outpost. GW2 maps do not have a similar personality. A group camping the same boss for him to respawn to get the skill will have a very different effect than the adventure of hunting down a skill in the first game.

I guess you had to be there to understand ;p

I'd pay for a race change. Just sayin'.

I made this thread as well some time ago. The main complication people saw with it was what to do with personal stories. I think the player based solution was too just require race changes have either 100% or 0% personal story completion.

It’s not a huge issue. I would pay 1600 gems for this service without hesitation.

In GW1 this was called Alliances and it was awesome. The only problem was eventually all the guilds that did a specific thing (in GW1 there was a ‘speed clear’ meta where players would annihilate elite areas in 30 minutes) banded together and it was impossible to get a group unless you met their elitist standards. Considering the nature of GW2 I don’t think this can really happen though.

A Legendary Journey

Gnat.9405

There have been many suggestions in regard to the acquisition of the precursor weapon once the fabled scavenger hunt goes live. There is much potential in this method to have players experience all that Tyria has to offer, and players believe that a good start to implementing this system begins with a simple letter. Here is my legendary undertaking. Be sure to share your thoughts and additions to what you would like to see in the precursor scavenger hunt.

There have been many posts suggesting that upon completing 100% map exploration, a letter comes in the mail from a mysterious stranger (I always thought a descendant of Nicholas the Traveler would be a flavorful touch). I think an interesting touch would be to introduce the scavenger hunt with a riddle. A letter that says something along the lines of:

_”Hello Hero,
I have been following your travels. I have seen what you have seen, but the question remains – have you seen what you have seen? If you would like to get the most out of life, and make your travels meaningful, please meet me at [insert location].”

I’ll be seeing you soon,
Nicholai the Wandering Scribe_

This would send the player to a location where the NPC will describe a story about a weapon that holds great potential to be something greater – something legendary. He will initiate the hunt for the items required to gain access to the precursor.

*Please note that this description is for Precursor weapons ONLY. This is not a description for a new way to achieve legendary items themselves.

Requirements:
* 100% Map Completion
* 100% Personal Story Completion
* “Crash Landing” Achievement
* “Dispelling Shadows” Achievement
* “Cleanup Crew” Achievement
* “Svanir’s Bane” Achievement
* “Don’t Feed the Beast” Achievement
* “Kill the Hydra Queen” Achievement
* “Shattered” Achievement
* “That Had to Burn” Achievement

Components:
World Boss Component:
* x1 Frozen Tooth (Claw of Jormag Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
* x1 Crystallized Ectoplasm (Shadow Beast Chest; 1-2% drop rate)

  • x1 Malfunctioned Gizmo (Steam Ogre Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    * x1 Shaman Chief’s Pendant (Shaman Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    * x1 Perfectly-Aged Rum (Covington Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    * x1 Nightmare Carapace (Jungle Wurm Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    * x1 Shattered Remnant (Shatterer Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    * x1 Sunless Scale (Tequatl Chest; ~1-2% drop rate)
    Dungeon Component:
    Each path of each dungeon will have a chance to contain a “crest fragment”. When all fragments are combined, you will receive an item, “Crest of [dungeon]”.
    * x1 Crest of Phantoms
    * x1 Crest of the Noble
    * x1 Crest of Twilight
    * x1 Crest of Sorrow
    * x1 Crest of Flame
    * x1 Crest of the Waves
    * x1 Crest of Eternity
    * x1 Crest of the Dead
    For example, path one of Ascalon Catacombs will have a chance to yield “Fragment of Phantoms 1,” path two may yield “Fragment of Phantoms 2.” and path 3, “Fragment of Phantoms 3”. Upon gathering all of these, you can combine them into Crest of Phantoms.

Personal Story Component
* x1 [insert chosen faction] Recruitment Confirmation
-This component will be gained through your chosen faction after joining. Players who have completed this step will receive the item in the mail.
* x1 Zhaitan’s Head
-This component will be included in the rewards for completing Aarah story mode. Players who have completed this step will receive the item in the mail.

Meta Event Components

  • x1 Blessing of Balthazar – gained from completing Balathazar Temple Meta
  • x1 Blessing of Lyssa – gained from completing Lyssa Temple Meta
  • x1 Blessing of Grenth – gained from completing Grenth Temple Meta
  • x1 Blessing of Melandru – gained from completing Melandru Temple Meta
  • x1 Blessing of Dwayna – gained from completing Dwayna Temple Meta

Upon receiving all items, the player will go back to the NPC. He will give a riddle about the Mystic Forge, and the combination of items to use to create a key to a secret area that contains a jumping puzzle. At the end, there is a chest with an emblem that can be traded to the NPC for a Precursor of the player’s choosing.

Well that’s all I have for now. I thank you all for reading and would love to hear some feedback in regards to what you think drop rates should be, difficulty of obtaining items, binding status of items (account/soul), etc.

Bring Back Insignia System

Gnat.9405

Guild Wars has a conflicting philosophy when it comes to the current state of armor acquisition. At the end game, it’s apparent that the point of the game is to be the shiniest player, and I’m perfectly okay with that after 6 years of playing GW1. In fact I prefer it over the loot carrot.

The problem is that skins have predetermined stats, and I realize that this is probably a ploy to get the player to purchase transmute stones (which is not a huge problem, considering the game does need revenue). The issue it brings is the fact that the current system severely cripples the potential of the crafting system.

I am in favor, along with other players, of using the old system from Guild Wars 1, although in this case the player has the ability to actually craft the insignias with the stats they want, rather than buy them, as in the old game.

Tailors can craft insignias specific to light armor, leatherworkers to medium, and armorsmiths to heavy.

Jewelers can craft insignias for jewelry, and weapons to their corresponding profession.
