Imbalances among Healing Skills

in Necromancer

Gnat.9405

I always viewed Consume as kind of a controlling Heal. Enemy players will usually assume you have it equipped if they don’t see a fiend, and it forces them to play their conditions with some thought. The extra heal per condition is not OP because I feel like it can make up for our lack of mobility and mitigation.

If only there was some guaranteed reward when finishing an event or dungeon!

Our token system for dungeons allows you to exchange and get things, and tokens are guaranteed at the end of each dungeon path. Events give out karma and currency, which can be used to buy things as well. Or are you implying a guaranteed item reward system, instead of a currency/token exchange reward system?

I understand the need for the RNG system and I’m sure other players do as well. I also believe that the use of RNG in this game is way too extreme.

I’m sure players would appreciate a loot table similar to GW1, where as each elite area/dungeon had randomly generated rewards but they also had that one special item that the players sought out (Obsidian Edge, Dhuum’s Soul Reaper, Dryad Bow, etc.), and therefor ran the dungeon over and over.

The tokens are fine but they are not the kind of rewards that players expect from dungeons. The thrill of victory is lost when you go into a dungeon knowing there is nothing else you need or want, and therefor begins to diminish the value of the content on a global scale.

I frequently mention this in posts commenting on the state of PvE, and that is the fact that the content in GW2 is simply not as fun as the content in GW1 and it boils down to the ability for the content to be replayed over and over. With this being an MMO it’s important for the core of PvE content (dungeons) to be fun to experience every time. I’m sure that there are people running fractals 20+ because they know that fractal weapons are on the loot table.

If, say, Honor of the Waves, a dungeon played at a lower frequency than others, offered the player the chance to obtain an awesome icy shoulder armor skin, I guarantee players would participate in that dungeon a little more often. Just take a look at the widely used 3rd party GW2LFG.com for proof.

People are only running CoF because of the time:reward. Do you really want your dungeons to be visited because they are the most easily exploited? I’m certain that the answer is “NO”

You want your dungeons run because the player gets an adequate gaming experience out of it, and players complete content for rewards.

Another method to accomplish this is offering a substantial reward for completing a daily dungeon objective, such as Complete Path X of Dungeon Y for reward of Z

The dungeons do not need to be revised, the RNG does not need to be revised, but the rewards system does.
This is how you solve problems for PVE players

I understand the need for it and do think it is a good idea. Another factor of this is fitting in a companion system with the flow of ArenaNet’s living world.

I think the most natural way to implement this system is to have your character “request the help” of an NPC involved with the story of a particular heart/Dynamic Event.

Yeah I don’t think PvE/WvE needs to be separated but PvP/Pve could definitely take a split. It worked beautifully in GW1 and avoided a lot of headaches. I’m sure it’s the bulk work that has to be done in the beginning that makes the project offputting and difficult.

Jumping Puzzles and Mesmer portals

Posted by: Gnat.9405

Gnat.9405

It actually makes sense. There are some people that literally cannot complete a jumping puzzle, due to technical issues or otherwise. If JP was required to progress it would not be fair to people with low end systems that cannot operate under that much population stress. Since the JP is not a progression-inhibiting obstacle it gives more freedom for people to decide how they want to complete it. The portal presents another option.

Group Journey

Posted by: Gnat.9405

Gnat.9405

Considering the role of the personal story in GW2, I think it would be interesting if there were similar scenarios set in place for groups. Developers could implement a set of events/questions similar to that of character creation, but a party must agree on the settings.

This story could be advanced as long as two members of the original party is present, and could span over any amount of time, similar to the personal story now, and would create a kind of legacy for you and your friends.

For example, a team could come out with the quest of tracking a creature that they designed through a series of questions, and that quest could take them all over the map, or just one dungeon.

There are a ton of ideas that could be implemented in this system, and it is a good way to get guilds to play together. A system like this can also offer something for people who are more interested in role playing scenarios than the current PvE content.

Condition Rework Suggestions

Jumping Puzzles and Mesmer portals

At this point ANet may fear that jumping puzzles would lose their population if the portal wasn’t a factor. Some people only go to puzzles because they know a Mesmer will be there to port. Of course there are players that will still visit them but this could be incentive.

As far as portals creating a rift (lol) in trivializing game content, it’s really a double edged sword. In one case it trivializes content by allowing the player to skip the content, but on the other end, it could perhaps draw more, less confident players to the content if they know they are able to get help from other players, particularly the Mesmer.

S/P PvE levelling build?

in Thief

Posted by: Gnat.9405

Gnat.9405

I personally think S/P is the best gear for PVE. The S auto attack hits multiple enemies (for quite a big radius in fact); coupled the with signet of malice.
You are virtually invulnerable fighting melee mobs with 100% uptime of Black Powder. Certain champions (that doesnt do aoe) can be soloed with nothing more than auto atk+ black powder.
In fact, camps at WvW are easily soloable with S/P + signet of malice set up.

You also get condition removal with shadow return (#2) and burst with pistol whip, if and when needed.

Would you mind sharing your PvE trait set up?

I just picked up my Thief again as my main because they are simply the most fun class to play. In PvE I played Guardian and Necromancer before Thief, and it was a lot of standing around with auto attack and shouts rolling. It is kinda tough to learn, but once you learn the Thief’s rhythm, it’s a lot of fun. If you want to get better at the game mechanics, play a thief.

Okay man look, I appreciate the system you made. It’s good, and it would clearly work if an overhaul was ever set in place. The only problem I have with it is that it’s not simple, it’s not a player friendly system to keep in mind when running dungeons. That’s the least of the issues.

What I do have a problem with is the fact that this post is clearly a direct complaint to CoF1 farming, and you’re using your system as a blanket effect for the problem with one dungeon. Yes, there will always be a route in a dungeon that nets more profit than the next, but you have to admit (and I think your post does) that CoF is on a completely different level in terms of grinding for gold. That’s the point that you may be missing. People aren’t doing this for tokens. People are farming this instance because of the gold. If the DR is applied to the overall gain of gold, than maybe that would be a step in the right direction.

Apply your system to copper/silver/gold gained through the dungeons and that might put a damper on the volume of farming.

So less skillful, efficient players should be rewarded more than honed, veteran players? What if an experienced guild group wants to run with experienced players through a dungeon? Should they not be rewarded equally, if not more handsomely? What about players that are doing the exploited dungeons the proper way? I don’t think anyone should be rewarded or penalized based on the efficiency of other players that are not associated with them at all. This is why there is a standardized rewards system.

The problem is in the dungeon design, not the rewards system.
