thanks for the feedback. I figured it was a longshot that this would work. i guess I’ll drop my Necro’s condition build and go zerker for vuln spams.
If I’m not mistaken this is actually a change that was implemented months after release, and was not originally enstated.
Did you happen to look at the build I posted? It clocked in at 2675 power, but the crit is low (10%). i was considering switching the cleric’s accessories for berserker’s. it would bump me to almost 30% crit but knock my healing to 895. the problem is, considring I haven’t played healer, I don’t know what number to hit to be efficient.
Edit: I understand that there is no dedicated healer, and i’m not necessarily trying to force one, i just want the optimum support role
So I know the standard calls for all direct damage and enough support to get you by/allow your team to take risks, but I am very interested in running a pure healing build on my Guardian.
I posted this in the dungeon forum as well, but here I’d like to get your opinions on the effectiveness of Healing in PvE content.
I was curious as to the actual effectiveness of pure healing builds (played by guardian) in dungeons/fotm. I know raw damage is currently the standard but I can’t bring myself to play dps on my guardian, and i’m sick the AH cookie cutter or virtue blind spammer. I’m very intersted in running something like
So this is what I came up with. Mostly going for symbol heals/support. Utilities obviously situational and swapping staff in when necessary. Any advice?
This is a strictly PvE build.
Get out while you can, anet hates you
How were they not compelled to give us healing in ds after making this change? I’m not even mad, i’m just in awe at the blatant mismanagement and the fact that they have no idea how to handle DS.
Please tone it down
Only problem I see with Abaddon fractal is the fact that it is a fractal:
There is a lot of potential for it to be a rushed, underwhelming experience for such an epic event. I’d hate for something like this to be wasted with lackluster content.
lol
I have a guildy that says it’s a way of showing “Progression” I don’t see it that way at all, I think how you play your character shows progression. Either way he’s spending hundreds of gold etc for the item’s skin, for Incinerator. And ya see the things stats, absolute garbage. To me it’s wasting your time/gold for a skin, complete utter waste imo. Too each his own ..
Guild Wars is, was, and will be about horizontal progression though. There will always be a plateau of power this is relatively easily reached. Anything after that is cosmetic. GW1 is the same way.
There have been a lot of statements like this in this recently added forum, all pointing to pique interest for Thaumanova, and therefor Kiel.
Conspiracy theorist checking in: Push favor for Kiel to not lose money in Gem store.
Although I’ve been posting a lot about my theories on ANet limiting content to force you into the store, I can admit that I am sometimes unfair in my assumptions.
But I’ve been seeing a lot of red posts commenting on Thaumanova and leave the players to debate the Abaddon fractal.
It was stated that work hasn’t yet begun on either fractal which means the winning instance is going to be months in coming anyway. Whether or not ANet has a secret agenda as far as vote tipping is ridiculous but not unheard of.
Well considering he announced it, it’s probably somewhere in development already.
However, I’ve been pulling for Dervish in GW2 since launch. I don’t think it will be implemented though considering the Guardian’s likeness to the original Dervish.
Even better.
Just to clarify – The fall of abaddon event has been confirmed to be events that happened PRE-GW1.
meaning, we will see the gods actually cast him out, and probably experience Arah/Orr before the region was destroyed.
Best.
It is confirmed for pre-GW1 events. Cheaper waypoints for a month is lame.
How is this even a debate: Nuclear blast vs. FALL OF AN EVIL GOD THAT IS CRUCIAL TO GUILD WARS LORE.
I did the same thing with my back piece and the tentacles. I’m just going to be capped at -5 AR until they introduce a method to extract the skin, because I’m not losing that skin.
It’s too bad, with all these new back pieces you’d think there would be a way to swap these skins. Infusion is such a bulky mechanic.
You can’t compare this game or any game to Runescape. Runescape has the most content out of any game I’ve ever experienced, and that was when I played back from 2001-2006.
However, coming from GW1 for 7 years I also knew exactly what to expect from this game. You have to come into the Guild Wars universe with a sandbox mentality. GW is a game of experimentation and individuality. The “end game” is a personal experience, not a meta achievement.
As someone who enjoys organized WvW I like the fact they are giving out the badges. This mean the people who actually want to WvW can get in more/less queue. So stop with “I got my badges through actually WvW this makes me better than you” or the “Its not fair I had to spend some time in a place I was going to be spending all my time anyways.” Just enjoy the fact more of your guild can be in at once with less queue because less people need to be there.
This is actually a really good point that I didn’t consider. Giving away these badges is a great way to thin the legendary farmers from WvW that don’t contribute, but only farm kills for badges.
GALACTUS!!!!!!!!
Is the Balthazar/Menzies story a not so loose adaptation of the Thor/Loki story?
So it seems you have a problem with the push of PvP players to explore PvE, not the fact that PvE players are getting badges, which is oddly enough where you are placing the problem. As previously stated, I agree that there should be a method for PvP exclusive players to acquire legendaries.
I also believe, however, that if such a system was to be implemented, PvP exclusive legendaries would have to be separate (possibly account bound) from PvE as to not infiltrate the economy which would unarguably have a larger impact on PvE play compared to PvP play.
If you had no problem with the previous method of acquiring badges (strictly PvP/JP) then I see no reason to make such a fuss over it now, especially considering the badges aren’t being “given away for free”. people are being rewarded for their achievements. If that is what bothers you then you too are posting solely about self-interest.
Another factor that has been stated multiple times is the fact that these chests being given daily are only the norm until the system catches up with itself. It is a retroactive effect, and once it catches up, the badges will slow at a dramatic rate.
Speaking as a condition Necro, I think this would be kind of overpowered. Direct damage requires significantly more effort to sustain in this fight than do conditions due to the constant movement and limitation to ranged combat. I can upkeep a decent amount of bleeds on him and if these were ticking for 300-500 a piece, he would melt just from one dedicated condition build. And that’s with bleeds alone. Factor in burning and the rest of the group it would be excessively easy to blow these guys up.
I believe the damage buff was placed specifically for the fact that condition builds would be weak, so they give the option to layer on extra damage from direct hits from these builds.
So let me get this straight:
You get rewards for a game mode that you don’t play and get upset because you don’t understand those rewards. You admitted that you don’t PvP. That’s probably why you don’t get the mechanic.
Out of your post I drive two things:
You want to blame others for your PvP ignorance
You should make an effort to understand what is going on before you go flaming the devs
ok Gnat how about this: I only like to do wvw and spvp but I want legendary, since I don’t want to have ANYTHING to do with pve world I demand alternative way of getting required items without leaving spvp and wvw. With your reasoning that would be only fair if it was possible.
I completely agree with you, that there should be a PvP alternative for legendary acquisition, or a legendary skin for you locker. I think there should be a way to supplement PvE exclusive items to build a legendary in PvP, with equal difficulty.
I will always advocate against tying a player down to a specific form of content to achieve an item that is not exclusive to that content, especially in a game where cosmetics is end-game. The reason I take such a hostile tone with OP is because he is clearly upset because other people who have put in work are being rewarded in a way that is different, and what OP perceives as easier, and getting similar rewards. That is strictly self-interest and holds no weight against his reward system. In fact, he can now even get more rewards, so he should have nothing to complain about.
People that accuse others of receiving handouts are most often those who are seeking handouts, and threads like this prove it time and time again.
It is also stated that you should be using ONE key for ONE action. If you bind macros with multiple actions on one key, you will be banned if detected.
The OP was talking about just using the auto-cast in game. Although now that I think about it, doesn’t it require a target to work?
Not for Ground targeted AoE
@Draehl
Try to build Eye of Rodgort if you have a scepter build
I wouldn’t base my decision off of arbitrary rumors.
You make an excellent point Esplen
I hope it isn’t released before balance and dungeon fixes are implemented or else it’s going to be Gaurdian/Mesmer/warrior finder.
First of all it’s not randomly handed out. It is rewarded through ACHIEVEMENT chests. Personally I think this was a wonderful idea considering there are players who don’t care for PVP that are forced into PVP for a legendary weapon that they will never use in PVP. Getting achievements is a much better investment if time than running around zeroing for weeks. You have no reason to complain. If YOU. Want YOUR badges through WvW then play WvW but don’t bash a new method because it wasn’t around when you were farming.
This still doesn’t solve the issue concerning the cap. This just adds more things that can cap. Also, the reason caps exist is because of server space not build diversity.
Ah I see. Thanks for clarification
I mean, the only new things in the Fractals are the places and nearly everything you face in the Solid Oceanic Fractal (and except for the Jade Maw and its tentacles, that’s just a recoloring to green!), as well as the Imbued Grawl Shaman and colossus.
Sorry in advance if I am misunderstanding you, but the Solid Oceanic Fractal is clearly the Jade Sea. The irukandjis were very present in GW1.
I admit I am skimming this thread so again I apologize if I am being presumptuous.
Condition Necro checking in
It’s something I would like to see but from ANet’s end I’m sure the question is “do we want people to pay full price for this or half price” and the answer is obvious. I think the problem I’m having with agreeing with you is the example of the permanent tool, considering they KNOW people are going to buy it.
Here’s hoping though.
+1
So basically reimplement a game mode that you admittedly state was unpopular and disliked. I dig it.
As long as you don’t change his voice. When he says bhold uhndertones he sounds like Hank Hill and it is fantastic.
They did this so they can make more money off of it by
A.) having one player buy it multiple times for multiple characters and
B.) Allow the items to be cycled many times and still make money off of new players, players who didn’t get it the first time, and again, players who want it across the board.
Don’t count on it
I would settle for being able to sun dash everywhere
So I run pretty standard AH build on my Guard in Fractals. I usually go Scepter/Shield for ranged set and GS for melee, but I am going to transition back to Hammer for melee.
Is hammer useful in higher level fractals?
Certainly. I recommend you have one of every weapon minus say.. mace and torch really.
Here are some guardian weapons and their uses in high end fractals.Hammer- Circle of warding. Use this ring on ascalon fractal. People will stack around corners and behind the walls and rubble before pulling one of those cluster-kitten mobs with the charging warriors. Just as they approach, put down your ring of warding, back up, use hammer 3 to immobilize them in a line just before ring runs out. After that you can switch to:
Staff- Line of warding. Line of ward them right after your immobi/ring runs out then bip everyone’s health and might up with empower. Hit your aegis options/reflects if there ranged attackers in that group. Switch back to hammer to get the protection going in melee. By this stage most of the warriors should be just about dead with a decent team.
Line of warding and circle of warding from these weapons can also be used well in Dredge fractal for obvious reasons. There are other places you can do this but those are the main ones :P
1H sword+ focus- Jade Maw fractal. This is an amazing weapon and here’s why. Number 2 skill is a blind. It also has high single target damage. Run this set with greatsword and you can melee down tentacles without issue. Everytime they use a knock down attack ( well telegraphed), use Sword 2 blind to prevent it, next attack, focus block, next attack, greatsword blind, next attack, stand your ground, next attack virtue of courage. You have a nice set of skills you can chain to never get hit by tenties and still be able to do your best damage in melee range.
I want to also mention that although hammer appears to be low dps, it has incredibly decent sustained dps whereas greatsword will do better burst damage, but hammer will maintain great over all damage so long as you are keeping the autoattack’s symbol up. I might also add that hammer 2 is a blast finisher which can be mighty useful on fire fields and water fields for might and healing. For alot of the fractals I have started just using GS as an aoe pull weapon. There’s plenty of places for this, but I prefer hammer for when pulls are not required.
Another point I would like to make, is that once you are fairly comfortable in fractals you may wish to consider not running AH. Not running AH opens up many options for you and will help you get the most out of your guardian for team support and if you are skilled enough/experienced enough, you really don’t need the AH healing to keep you going. I typically run for a 48 pug- full knights armor and full berserker trinkets, I recently switched to a no AH build and have had little issue, but I sure noticed the difference in support I could pump out for the team. At lower levels and guild 48 teams it’s full berserkers everything.
Can I ask what non-AH build you’re using?
If you are playing PvE the best condition build is currently 30/30/10.
Plague is great because it’s a ridiculous defense buff. The skills it grants are places on #s 1-3, and allows you to spam bleed, blind, and cripple while sustaining poison.
Add me guy, we’ll get you some relics
I think the main problem is that DS form is like Plague. Both are a mass of black shadows, but I don’t have problems with that. It’s a very low priority and very subjective thing.
On the other hand, skill #5 icon bothers me a lot, maybe I’m giving it too much importance but it doesn’t match with the style of the other DS icons.
REWORK THAT ASAP
OMG THANK YOU I’ve noticed this since implementation and I’m like gaaaaaaaaaaaaah every time!
It doesn’t fit the artstyle of ANY of the other skills at all
What is the Necro’s place in FotM? I am currently running in 20s with my condition (rabid) build and it is a ton of fun and great output, along with debuffs and condition removal party wide. Am I doing it right or is there a preferred build for Necro’s in higher levels?
inb4 necro doesn’t belong in fotm
