In that case for every character we will either be able to A.) slam all the scrolls on one character if it is X amount of XP or B.) Create tons of level X characters if the scroll is similar to the scroll we got from the achievement chest.

Should be interesting either way

So this experience scroll will be given to a character for their first birthday. Therefor, I’m assuming it will be soulbound on acquisition.

My question is, unless I’m wrong and the scroll will be account bound, what use will a one year old (presumably level 80) character have with a scroll that gives xp?

You make these claims often. Can I ask why you’re against having burning/direct confusion? Is it strictly thematic or do you have mechanical reasons why it’s a bad idea?

Wil-o’-wisp:
Projectile: Release a slow moving Wil-o’-Wisp that applies confusion to target. If Target is burning, gain vigor.
Ok this one might be kind of OP but I think the confusion aspect is fantastic for this skill: it’s flavorful and it gives us access to the final condition we are unable to produce naturally. It would move similar to the Guardian’s scepter auto attack.

Cremate:
Channel (3 sec): Apply Torment x5. If Target is under 50% HP, apply burning.

This skill will have burning duration and cooldown appropriate to:
a.) Balance with Dhuumfire
b.) Balance with Tainted Shackles

I can’t imagine something like elementalist with pistol or rifle. Or mesmer with hammer and bow. It would look silly.

The same could be said for the greatsword though, no? I wouldn’t have thought it to be a frequently used mesmer weapon, especially going by GW1 standards. But the designers managed to make it work, so I have the deepest trust in them.

GW2 magic depends on a channeling tool, and the kind of magic depends on what kind of tool it is.

so you could say the greatsword is partly responsible for the lasers, yes.

I can understand the needing of a channeling tool to cast certain spells, but lore-wise; is the type of channeling tool really necessary? I always regard how they separated the spells for casters, by weapon, as more of a gameplay mechanic. Like, does my elementalist, lore-wise, always need a dagger to cast an earthquake spell, or a staff to throw a fireball? It would just be weird if that was canon.

It would be like saying to Queen Jenna, she couldn’t cast a phantasmal berserker spell, no matter how skilled a Mesmer she is, because she isn’t wielding a great sword…

Maybe this is part of the reason they plan to bring all weapons to all classes later

I am trying to get myself more interested in this fractal since we will have Thaumanova research taking place soon, and this may be a piece of the puzzle (or possibly piece of the result).

You used your tokens for their intended purpose – voting. It’s not like you had a choice for these tokens to drop or not; everyone got them. If someone didn’t want to participate in the event then oh well, it is what it is.

Wow, it really does seem to be a close “50 50” between people who like, or dislike the LS content. Feel for ArenaNet, very tough trying to appease both crowds.

Seems many of us share the same opinion: an expanded version of the dynamic event system can be the future of GW2 and the living world content.

It’s quite simple, and DiogoSilva (as well as others) hit it on the head: the Dynamic event system was the selling point of the game for years and I feel cheated, quite honestly. The amount of missed opportunity involved with not utilizing and improving existing resources is unprecedented. Devs say that they don’t improve on the Dynamic Events because no one participates. Catch 22 if I had ever seen one. An event is no longer dynamic if it is the same event for a year.

The living world existed, until it was killed by this notion of rampant temporary content. I guarantee people would be more satisfied with seeing Orr begin to be revitalized through a weekly series of events that ends on a grand scale. THIS is your living world.

The living story, however, is creating a dying world. Consider this update. A majority of players are participating in a 24 hour zerg. Is this the living content which was held on such a high pedestal? I doubt this was the intention, but it’s keeping people in the event, which creates data about participation. If the effort these living world teams put into temporary grind fests was put into improving the existing world, the game would live up to its advertised standards, and standards that the players who waited 5 years were expecting.

The problem may in fact be that the entire game has come down to this content. Maybe the development cycle is too fast? There is no time to enjoy what was shipped. This is an argument I usually tend to avoid because personally I can’t deal with any more posts about content being too temporary. Personally, I don’t have a problem with the game’s velocity; however, I am very active on the forums and it doesn’t take long to see what the players are enjoying the least. Sure, this forum may only provide the vocal minority of players, but this is the feedback. If the forums are not intended for such, then remove them.

The point is, a lot of players that care enough about the game to voice their concerns are not happy with the direction the game is going. That is not a statement placing value on one type of player over another, but again, this is where the feedback is.

Every red post commenting on negative reactions says the same thing: “Well wait until you see what we have in store for you next month!” It’s getting old.

TL;DR:
- Give players time to enjoy the existing world instead of dragging them from map to map to grind for X currency and Y minipet.
- Use existing dynamic events to tell the story of Tyria rather than neglecting existing resources to tell seemingly arbitrary stories.

I don’t understand how they’re missing the opportunities that are already there to integrate the LS content into the existing events. Developers continuously create new rivals and nemeses and leave the existing lore and creatures to run circles around maps contributing nothing. Perhaps I’m speaking too soon considering the Aetherblade are relatively new, and we don’t know where the story is going, but if it fizzles into some arbitrary foe that does not advance the lore or GW2 story I will be greatly disappointed.

Again, I’m being presumptuous, but it feels like ANet is trying to get away from the dragons. Granted, I don’t expect them all to be thrown at us in half-hearted fights within the first 1-3 years, but to defeat one dragon almost immediately and then hear nothing more of them while given seemingly random foes is a little irritating.

So this Jubilee is really showing off how powerful Jennah is as a Mesmer. In light of her ability to create multiple terrains at once I think it would be neat if in the future mesmers got utility skills to temporarily create small environmental pieces, such as a rock that the team can jump on or a tree to LoS enemies.

I don’t play Mesmer but this event has made me want one because of how impressive Jennah’s abilities are. ANet’s signature profession is showcased, in my opinion.

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Gnat.9405

Gnat.9405

I feel like this update (in regards to the pavilion zerg) was to prepare the economy for the next tier of armor/weapons/legendaries.

Also, when this Jubilee is removed, there is a high possibility that Orr will look like the Pavilion, which would not be a bad thing. This update is a huge game changer in the long run. I’m a little disappointed with the dungeon rewards but I’ve given up on dungeons.

I’m glad the events are starting to branch out of Lion’s Arch. Southsun was weird, I don’t consider that much when recalling the living world events.

What I would like to see most are events that take place in the world, rather than cities, and take you across multiple maps for a grand finale somewhere new, perhaps, when the time to release a new zone comes. I really hope a large scale event takes place when it’s time to go to Ring of Fire Islands, because to not do that map epic would be a total missed opportunity.

I think the Dynamic events should be more dynamic. I think the world bosses, primarily the dragons, should not have a scripted landing place. I know this is difficult in terms of terrain and environment, but having multiple places where Claw of Jormag or Shatterer can land and be engaged would be very interesting.

I think Dynamic event chains that are in close proximity to one another should have an opportunity to merge into an even larger event, such as, for instance, the cave troll in Queensdale being subdued by the bandits that attack the ranch, and the bandits use the troll somehow to attack Claypool. I’m sure there are better minds than mine that can think of some awesome scenarios.

I won’t speak on the living story yet because I don’t think it would be fair to call it incoherent just yet. They still have a lot of building to do before we see any major ties, I’m sure.

Agreed. I just don’t think it’s fair to say “If you aren’t a fractal grinder then you should have no say in this vote”

Which is the tone I got from Gnat

That’s not what I was saying, and I’m sorry if it came off that way. I wouldn’t want to limit anyone’s participation in any content based on their play style. What I was saying is kind of the opposite really. I just don’t think the fractals should have been part of the decision because they play a pivotal role in every day content. Fractals are so far out of the context of this living story content. I think two separate dungeons that were not considered fractals would have been vastly more appropriate.

Hopefully this post is a little more clear.
